a whole lot of work to finish up this

bike I need to do wheel bearings clean

up the tank a little bit I've been

procrastinating on that because sanding

tanks isn't Fun and then we got some new

plastic we got to put on the bars

levers cables hook up some wires and uh

we should be set to go so so let's hang

out in the shop and finish building a

bike how's your fourth cup of

coffee

let's start with the wheels we're going

to put new wheel bearings in and we got

to put the brakes shoes and everything

back on the backing plates stick them on

and then we can get those on the bike

that won't take too long let's start

with

that have a couple different ways to do

this let's try the slide hammer

first you want to see the way this works

so we have a little lip here on these

fingers and when you slide it through

the bearing slide it down through the

bearing those lips catch on the inside

race and then as you thread this down

it's basically a wedge and what it's

doing is spreading all these fingers so

that that has a good grip on the bearing

and then you're just slid hammering it

out so this taper rides in there and it

opens up let's see can you see it

opening see how that

works

it just like that one down one to

go wheel bearing is one of those things

you can easily do it in your own shot

especially tools don't hurt but I mean

this isn't hard work buy a puller setup

like this use it once or twice and it'll

pay for

itself I'm seeing an issue this rear

wheel the bearings are different sizes

and in the book I got aftermarket

bearings the part number was the same

for the front and the rear so the book

lied so I think the book lied unless

when I look in the freezer there's two

different size

bearings people want wonder why this

stuff takes so

long those be the

same dang it all right do I have any

bearings No that's not going to work

it's going to be too big got one more

trick up my sleeve I'm going to be able

to read these numbers on the seals and

on the

bearing and I'm going to call a local

bearing supply shop bearings are

bearings seals are seals it doesn't

matter if they go on a car a boat a

train a plane a motorcycle a dirt bike

your refrigerator it's kind of all the

same oh boy that number is hard to read

going to have to maybe measure that one

we're going to make phone call and we're

going to see if we can get those that

bearing and these seals that is one of

the fun things about doing a project

like this is all the little problem

solving you have to do at least when you

run into them tell yourself that they're

fun and not infuriating right and then

back together I didn't have to think a

put that clutch cable through quite a

great so I was pretty hard on the clutch

the adjustment out here and that's going

to make my inner cable as long as it can

be and that leaves my outer cable um or

my inner cable long my out my outer

cable short shortens up the outer cable

making the inner cable long now I got

all that out Lube this up a little bit

before we uh before we put it on

there letting it run down inside the

cable makes a big difference

pulling off this clutch cover here cuz I

need to adjust this clutch okay you see

that little knob there on the case okay

that needs to get lined up here so we

push this forward and then adjust

there's an adjustment in under here to

get that this tip in line with that

Mark is this where I realize I have oil

in it why is it all going to spill out

at once yeah that's pretty much what

would

happen all right okay so this is our

adjuster we have all the slack out of

the

cable okay see look now that goes to

there now that goes all the way front

Okay so as I screw that in okay that's

as far front as I can push it so if I

loosen this see now it lets me push a

front further as I tighten it it brings

it back so I'm going to tighten that up

until those line up right there and then

we're going to Snug

this

okay now clutch should be adjusted so

now that goes to there that is lined up

sweet now we come through with our wrist

torque we set

them oh there you go you got it Craig

got it nice can really hear my elbow

check this one

okay there we go all right okay um and

then we put the kicker back

on everything's a hammer now I'm going

to leave this foot Peg loose cuz we may

have to adjust that and that's going to

get some lock tight now I feel good that

that's done that that was an important

step now next let's get that rear wheel

on and then we have a bike that's

sitting on Wheels yeah then it'll look

like a bike then it'll look like a bike

so what do we got

here okay so I got a couple different

rear sprockets and I have a couple

different front sprockets so I can

change up the gearing after I ride it

and play around a little bit right now

I'm going to run a 49 to sprocket on

this back I have a 12 on the front but I

also picked up a a 41 and a 46 so that's

quite a difference but right now we're

going to run a 49 give us all that

bottom end power I got new locking tabs

because the old locking tabs were just

shot no more tabs to lock look they're

all broke off so we got new ones it's

one of the great things about working on

a Yamaha is parts are pretty readily

available okay that is

that Dan I think we're going to put this

wheel on it's about time all right I

knew I know you're waiting on it Danny

such a slave driver work faster work

harder

okay nice I'm liking all that okay now

we need to set up the brake arm there's

the brake arm this is the bolt the pinch

bolt these bikes have a this is like a

quick release actually a lot of times

this Barrel here it's just a hole that

goes through this Barrel the brake rod

goes through that hole and then the wing

nut goes in this one here is quick touch

so it actually just just lays in here

and then the wing nut holds it all

together they do that so you don't have

to pull all this stuff apart if you're

in a race and have a flat tire the idea

is you can just drop all of this and

pull the rear wheel super

easy all right once the bike's down and

everything else is put together we're

going to have to come back through and

adjust some of that little stuff but

getting it in place is a good start

let's do chain next how do you like that

chain chain make it look a little more

like a

oo all right let's mark this so we know

what we're pulling I'm going to pull

those

cinch that up and then we

will this is doing is is pushing this

pin out this back

side that's the part you don't want cut

it twice and it was still too short n

yeah okay there's that okay Master links

there's a trick to master links what you

want to do I'm going to actually use my

chamber bring tool I'm just going to use

this to lightly press on that

link this is a masterlink pliers and you

see how that's a little longer than the

other

one that's how you know they're master

link pliers there's also a little Groove

in here on each side and that's to grab

the pin now when you put on a clip

master link like this you always want to

put the opening of the clip opposite

wheel travel so rear tire spins this way

cuz it shoots rooster Tails out that way

so so that means we want to put the clip

on like this so as the tire is traveling

in the chains moving around if it were

to hit something if it was like this it

could pop the link off but when you put

it like this and the chain is moving

around if it hits something it won't pop

it off and then the reason these are the

way they are this one here will grab the

pin and this tall one's going to grab

the edge of the

clip just like that and then you always

want to just make sure that you're in

the in the groove and that's that okay

so that's that's done check that off the

list get this back into

neutral there's first there's

second and there's

neutral bam I think we put the bars on I

saw one spec that said this Fork stick

out is supposed to start at 50 mm and

then adjust in 5 mm increments from

there up or down depending on taste that

looks awful High to me I know some of

these bikes are these older bikes do run

them like that but I'm going to look

again for another spec see what I can

find just to make sure that that's

accurate snug for

now love opening up fresh Parts it's my

favorite on these old bikes like this

especially these old it you have to be

really careful with this piece here

these tabs break off easily and they're

getting harder and harder to find these

backing

plates okay then this gets around of

there and up to

there cool we are getting places okay we

have this little clevis goes on the

brake cable it's another piece I forgot

to

paint it's going to go like that and

then this goes on there so I'm probably

going to have to pull that yeah cuz that

won't go

awesome

maybe I'm kind of liking that I think

we're going to start with it there and

then we'll just adjust as we need to

okay so now that is in I think that

should give us plenty of play there to

work with so that's getting

good let's get this carburetor on

here there's

that hey it's doing stuff doing

stuff okay that goes like

that I don't want like that at all I

don't know what that is but that ain't

right I want to know what it is with

cameras and turning them on it makes

things not want to work right what you

like better I like this old one better

it's a straight pull versus coming in

this way and then ning want just use the

old one I think we're just going to use

the old one I really didn't want to use

this broken throttle tube but I liking

the way this stuff fits better than that

other one going to use it for

now

doesn't look as nice but feels a lot

better in the

throttle okay so then we have air

cleaners going to go here that is

getting cleaned at the moment and we're

going a carburetor all right wires these

are going to come up through

here and I need these three to reach

these three how am I going to do that

Dan just do it just Yank on them that's

the best piece of of advice I've heard

all day when it comes to wiring you

looping them the other way yeah I'm

going to put them up through this side

that's my plan let's see if it works

okay up next we have this piece this

goes here I think it goes this I think

it goes that

way it kind of seems like it likes that

doesn't

it you know what what let's put plastic

on this bike sounds like the next yeah

mean it looks like a bike now so if we

put plastic on it it'll look like a bike

with plastic on it deep thoughts with

Dan should be a segment yeah Deep

asked for we could parlay that with um

the carb ton segment always thinking my

friend I haven't opened up the box yet

for the

plastic so I'm really excited to see

what they look

like I know it looks like I opened the

box but really I

didn't watch I open the box and it's

like

yellow it's blue nice this is exciting

oh look I even splurged cuz in my

opinion there's nothing that makes an it

look better than the fender bag oo yeah

yeah oo just wait you'll see what I mean

this is the finishing touch that'll make

things things

again this is one of the most exciting

Parts redoing a bike is putting on the

fresh

plastic why' you do that even got

stickers in there

dtin okay so I need what do I need I

need to get these uh rubber grommets off

the old f Fender these don't match super

good like look how nice and glossy this

is these don't have the shine or the

gloss neither does this rear fender but

good news is neither is our gas tank

because I didn't finish sanding

it okay so these go like that like

that

Dan we are going to transform this bike

here in about a minute you're not even

going to recognize

it this is where also the point in the

restoration where I start getting really

super excited and I'm like you know what

I should do another one and I forget all

about all that work and cleaning and

everything I did to get to this point

there's no holes on this one what do we

do just glue it in place does it pop in

no like a Lego piece yeah I think I'm

going have to J the hole

and it's supposed to clip in

there oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah let's

figure this side out now so I'm going to

need a hole for down in

we didn't put the air cleaner on

guess we'll set the bike down a little

needs some work

yet man I know I didn't ride it a whole

lot right here but that's cuz it's ugly

outside I'm going to get a ton of use

and a ton of fun out of this bike I'm so

pumped that it's done few little

touch-ups here in there yet you had we
