hi it's Kristen with Women's Care Center
every summer I always have these big
plans of how I can make it memorable for
my boys but then a lot of times life
happens and before I realize it we're
packing our backpacks to go back to
school and I think what happened where
did my summer go a few years ago I
started a new tradition in our house
called the summer bucket list it gives
my boys the chance to have some new
experiences and adventures and at the
same time it keeps me on track to be
sure I'm taking advantage of the warm
weather and the free schedules today I
would like to talk to you about how you
can make your own summer bucket list
with your family but before we do that
let's do our breathing exercise with
your eyes closed take a deep breath as
you exhale I want you to imagine any
pressure or worry that you've been
feeling lately leave your mind when you
feel relaxed I would like you to think
about something that brings you joy
maybe it's something as simple as taking
your morning cup of coffee outside and
listening to the birds chirp maybe it's
the smile on your kids faces or the
pleasure that you get from making them a
home-cooked meal as we go into this new
normal it's important that we keep our
focus on the things that bring us joy
that's what's going to get us through
the day and have hope for the future
so a summer bucket list a lot of us have
said these last few weeks have helped us
to remember what's really important in
life we spent a lot of times in our home
and a lot of times with our families but
let's keep that idea of going looking
forward to the summer it's important to
take advantage of the time that we have
together and to experience the simple
pleasures of life that's the whole goal
of a summer bucket list bringing the
family together to make memories so how
do you do a summer bucket list well in
my family I
of each boy ten things that they can put
on their bucket list if your kids are
having a hard time thinking what it is
that they would like to do feel free to
give them some topics for example you
can say is there a restaurant that you
want to go to this summer is there
something that you want to learn to make
at home what's something that we can do
outside together as a family you may be
impressed as they get started the
creativity that starts to come from
their little pencils for example I read
you a few that we have on our bucket
list this summer this is my youngest
bucket list he's six he wants to eat a
bowl of Lucky Charms with chocolate milk
I won't be participating in that
challenge another one that he said he
wants to have a treasure hunt in the
backyard and he wants to go miniature
golfing all of those things I can do my
oldest is 10 these are some of the
things that he wants to do this summer
he wants to make a solar oven to try to
make chocolate chip cookies I'm gonna
have to google search that one he also
wants to ride four wheeler with his
grandpa and eat four strips of gum at
the same time some of my bucket list
I want to go strawberry picking with my
boys something I've always wanted to do
and we've never done so now is the time
to do it I also said that I'd like to
make homemade ice cream build a
birdhouse and go to a neighborhood
garage sale it's not important what you
have on your list they don't have to be
big adventures or things that cost lots
of money remember the idea is that you
want to make memories with your kids
it's something that they can look
forward to all summer and have fun
checking off each adventure that you do
together I hope that you can take these
ideas and make summer bucket list a
tradition in your house thanks so much
for joining me I'll see you next time
bye-bye
