Transcripts
hey everyone as you may know if you
actually saw some of my recent videos my
channel has been struggling a bit over
the last couple of years I made some
changes recently to how I do things but
honestly those really haven't helped at
all so far so I started digging into my
analytics trying to figure out exactly
what's going on and to see if I could
fix the situation and honestly it looks
like there's kind of not anything for me
to fix
I feel like I found definitive proof
that the YouTube algorithm just simply
stopped promoting me for absolutely no
reason whatsoever and I'm going to share
some of the analytics with you to to
kind of demonstrate that point I'm not
exactly thrilled about what's happened
um so this video is kind of just
catharsis for me I don't really expect
anything to change uh but yeah anyways
let's go ahead and look at some data to
get me a little more upset
let's start off with a comparison of a
game with its sequel we've got
Spider-Man 1 and Spider-Man 2 Spider-Man
1 came out on September 6th 2018 when my
channel had
27,800 subscribers Spider-Man 2 came out
on October 20th 2023 when the channel
was at
106,7 subscribers what we're going to
show with these analytics are the first
6 months of part one of these series
Spider-Man 1 had
158,00 Impressions which means the video
was shown to that many people the
click-through rate was
4.4% which is the percentage of people
that decided to actually click it and
watch the video comparing that to
Spider-Man 2 The Impressions were only
10
19,600 despite having nearly four times
the subscribers and a higher
click-through rate of
5.4% click-through rate and Subs isn't
everything though so let's see how
people actually engaged with the video
Spider-Man 1 had an average view
duration of 2 minutes and 53 seconds
which is an average percentage viewed of
27.2% while Spider-Man 2 had an average
view duration of 7 minutes and 23
seconds which is an average percentage
viewed of
22.6% there's debate whether view
duration or percentage of a video
watched is better for the algorithm but
the percentage is close enough here to
not be a major factor plus I'll show you
other examples where the newer videos
had higher average percentage viewed
that didn't help so you can see that
despite the analytics being very close
or arguably better for Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man 1 got more total Impressions
which is 5.72 times the total subscriber
count at the time while Spider-Man 2 got
a measly 1.03 times subscriber count
let's look at another one we've got
Final Fantasy 7 remake and its sequel
rebirth remake came out on April 10th
2020 when I had 58 8,800 subscribers
while rebirth came out on February 29th
2024 when I had
11,300 subscribers once again you can
see the older video getting nearly 50%
more Impressions despite the
significantly lower subscriber count and
lower clickthrough rate view duration
goes to the newer game as well but like
before the average percentage viewed
goes to the old game this time with a
more significant Gap with 11% versus
16.1%
so far the old videos have only managed
to win one category in both cases but
the result in Impressions is once again
substantial with 5.2 times sub count for
remake and rebirth only managing 1.9
times subscriber count so maybe the
average percentage viewed is the problem
well let's kill that idea right now
Kingdom Hearts 3 versus Avatar frontiers
of Pandora January 28th 2019 with
35,800 subscribers for versus December
6th 2023 with
107,5 subscribers virtually the same
amount of Impressions despite avatar
coming out when I had nearly three times
as many subscribers and the clickthrough
rate being almost double it just
destroyed Kingdom Hearts in that
category when we look at the engagement
Avatar had more view duration and a
slightly higher average percentage
viewed it literally won every category
but Kingdom Hearts 3 got 3.94 time
subcount in Impressions versus 1.3 with
Avatar those are all walkthroughs though
let's take a look at a stream example
next up we have Kaa Bridge of spirits
versus nobody wants to die Kaa came out
on September 19th 2021 when I had 82,000
subscribers while nobody wants to die
came out on July 17th 2024 with 112,500
subscribers as of this recording nobody
wants to die has only been out for a
little less than a month so we're taking
making the first 27 days worth of data
for both games you can see the KA
crushes nobody wants to die in
Impressions with
173,00 versus 52,000 despite nobody
wants to die winning in clickthrough
rate just like all of the other recent
games Kaa does win in both view duration
and average percentage viewed which
probably gave it a little bit of a boost
but definitely not the 2.1 time sub
Count versus 48 we see from nobody wants
to die poor nobody wants to die after a
month wasn't even offered up to half of
my subscribers to click so this is the
situation I've been dealing with YouTube
just flat out isn't recommending my
videos like they used to and it's
important to remember that these are all
part one videos which has a massive
impact on the rest of that series
because each episode is going to go down
in views from the previous video these
aren't weird outliers too every series
I've made over the last two years is
getting getting massively outperformed
by older Series this is the impact it's
had on my channel views and it would be
a lot worse if my older videos weren't
bringing in so many views just look at
the pathetic amount of views I get on my
recent videos and streams so if you're
wondering why I'm streaming less and
stopped making walkthroughs here's your
answer if it wasn't for the extremely
generous people supporting this Channel
with patreon YouTube memberships and
donations I probably wouldn't be doing
this anymore I'm lucky to get my content
recommended to my own subscribers these
days
