Transcripts
hi it's Michael here from pwns by
Michael wheat and I thought today I
always try in kind of different rooms
different
scenarios so today uh is actually in um
I would say my office but I actually
share this office with Lindsay who's my
general manager and she would always
says it's her office but anyway it's our
shared office when I'm here on a Monday
and a Friday
so I was thinking this week
about quite a bit about water safety so
and water safety particularly in
swimming ponds and it got me thinking
about what is the difference
between a swimming pool and a
pwn p and I do that I I call it a
swimming pond because as are different
generally speaking than the majority of
the
market
and what got me thinking about it was
funly enough um the water bottle that I
drink from so I've got one of these um
lar water bottles now hash no ad this
isn't an ad for them I haven't spoke to
them or got any kind of
um chat with them or anything but I've
seen this product on sh t tank I love um
Shar tank I love business and I love
seeing all these ideas and stuff so
Shark Tank people don't know it's a bit
like um Dragon's Den just the American
version and this was a product that was
on Shark Tank
and I'd seen it a while ago but it's
only recently I bought it because I've
just started to drink more water so I'm
now
drinking anywhere between four and five
liters a day
and these bottles hold 970 mil it's just
a bit easier just to keep on top of what
I've
drank and the reason I really liked what
this company does is because it has a UV
fitted in it so on the top here you can
press the button and then what it does
is it shines a UV light and it bounces
around the the steel
inside and then
see that see a little light so by uh
doing
that what it does it kills
99.9% of
bacteria and so basically uh they do
ones with little filters on as well but
but this one's just got the UV light on
it and what happens is because of that
it doesn't it doesn't stink and you
know it means that the water I'm
drinking hasn't got bacteria in it so I
mean I have a filter tap at home but
when I'm out and about I might go and
fill it up somewhere and then just use
the button just to make sure and it
doesn't take very long for it to do it
and yeah it's it's it's a great bit of
equipment and and actually on their
website it even says it kills eoli which
is obviously super obviously something
I've done quite a lot of research on so
you if you haven't seen it I did a a
podcast with Caroline Murray who is a
biochemist and we talked a lot about
things like eoli so it's a bit long but
of of course go and watch that if you've
not seen it if you're interested in this
kind of
thing so what I thought do is kind of
explain I'm going to come back to this
what why I've mentioned this so in a
swimming pool what you tend to have is
generally you have the water heated at
about
28 and and we have built swim Pools by
the way so I do know quite a bit about
them and generally speaking you put
chlorine in them and What chlorine does
it's a chemical and it just kind of
kills everything now the reason I love
swimming pond so much is we don't
actually treat the projects with
chemicals there is chemicals you can put
in to reduce phosphate to um change some
of the the chemistry in the water but
generally speaking there's actually no
need to do it because there's lots of
different ways you can do it without
having to put any kind of chemical in
and that that's probably the big
difference with the swimming pool and
one of our swimming ponds is we is we
don't have a chemical like chlorine and
the reason we don't put chlorine in was
a it' kill all the plants and B actually
it damages all the pond equipment so you
definitely can't use
chlorine but the thing is about a
swimming Pond how are we going to get
the water safe because we've got a huge
body of water like you can see in some
of these projects on our website here
huge body of water and most of the time
actually bigger than a swimming pool um
you know we've done some projects now
we've done one which was about a million
liters um and we've done you know lots
around the 600,000 400,000 liters of
water and how are we going to make sure
that the water stays clear well actually
it's very similar to how lck does it so
what we do is we have a UV system on
which is designed and built by ws and
there's lots of different UV companies
out there and it's a stainless steel
drum and the water comes in and it B and
the UV boun St it and it basically
destroys everything at the DNA level and
that's how we're able to keep the water
safe without having to put chemicals in
now there's lots of other ways that we
do it as well it's we don't just rely on
that we we have um we work on keeping
the pH in Balance keeping the JH and the
KH
where it should be um oxygen levels are
very important in
water and this is the thing like to a
lot of people it doesn't like to a lot
of people it's not a huge concern it is
a pond after all you know but here's how
I look at
it I'm that cautious about drinking
water I think most people are pretty
cautious about drinking water a lot of
people have stopped drinking tap water
now um because they might have led in
the pipes and stuff like that and we've
all kind and a lot of people you know
drink bottled water or you know have
gone on to um do things like this that
I've
done so why wouldn't we be that careful
about what we're going
swimming and because whether you like it
or not you're going to swallow some of
the water uh I mean you might be a you
might keep your head above the water
level and you may never get in there but
let's say you do you want to be able to
be able to swallow it and it's not going
to cause you any great harm now of
course with everything there's a risk
with with swimming pools there's a risk
so uh if ecoli gets into the water Clin
doesn't kill it instantly there is a
risk that you can get ecoli for example
and I just use ecolar because it's the
one that most people know
um but generally speaking because we
because we move the water around and we
move it through the UVS and on most of
our projects
probably once every 4 Hour four to six
hours the water actually gets moved
through the system and sometimes it's
every 3 hours and because of that we're
able to keep basically sterilizing and
cleaning the water going through the UVS
which is what makes our projects very
safe to swim in and something I'm very
proud of as a company and in my opinion
um we lead the way when it comes to safe
D our projects so not
only are they beautiful to look at not
only are they built for longevity but
they're also built with safety in mind
and that's something as a company I'm
extremely proud of so um yeah I just I
just thought
I'd I was drinking me water this week
and I just thought hey that might be a
good video to kind of explain how
important it is that we use UV system to
actually get the water safe as possible
so hopefully
that video is of use and and you've like
the change of scenery in my office or my
shared office with lsy
