Transcripts
so today I'm going to talk about how I
was scammed by goto bank I sort of knew
this was going to happen based on the
reviews and the reputation of this
company so I signed up with go to bank
on August 18th I signed up to go to bank
through a referral link that I found on
maximizing money for a $100 new account
bonus when you do a $200 direct deposit
within 45 days and they'll credit the
money within 48 hours so it says here to
earn the $100 bonus you must join via
the current members referral link and
receive a direct deposit of $200 or more
within 45 days of account opening and it
was easy to open the account it's
extremely easy it says even here once
you receive a direct deposit of $200 or
more within 45 days you'll get a $100
bonus deposit to your go-to account
within 48 Hours okay 48 Hours let's look
at that and see so now it's so today is
the day after the 48h hour window here's
my go-to bank account enjoy it while you
can because I'm going to close this
account after this video here's the
account that I have with them if you
click on this this is what you have this
is the account they call it a bank
account although I think that's
questionable so I did the direct deposit
from a Chase business account August
28th ACN August 28th posted so that was
Monday so it posted on Monday then I
also did a transfer from my wealth front
account just to do a little transfer
anyways to see how that worked and that
took I think two days that posted
yesterday so it was Monday the direct
deposit was made Monday I did it on
Friday I think and it posted on Monday
so that was Monday when it posted so by
Wednesday I was waiting for the $100
bonus to post I didn't see it anywhere I
called customer service during the
daytime they said uh oh yeah we see that
you're direct deposit
we see that you have a direct deposit
posted you should be receiving the bonus
just give it some time or something like
that uh I'm not going to fall for that
so after the full 48 Hours went through
last night I waited for this to post
this this just posted yesterday so once
I got the full
$221 I decided I was going to pull out
the money and close the account because
I don't like scammy companies and I
don't like companies that don't do what
they say they're going to do
so I went to the options here for move
money and I thought okay there must be
an option where I can transfer the money
back to my bank account so I I don't
want this direct deposit option so I I
clicked bank transfer select a bank
account to transfer money to your goto
account so when you actually select this
account it only let's say I put an
amount this will only transfer money to
them you can't actually transfer money
out once you're in this account they
trap your money it's once your money is
in this account it's like a trap you
can't get it out the only way you're
going to be able to get it out is via
cash or a debit transaction as far as I
can tell so you have the ATM card you
can go to a machine an ATM machine take
the money out and if you're lucky you
picked the right machine and it works
and it it won't charge you the fee if
you're in the network that's an option
or you can go to Walgreens or CVS and
possibly pay a fee to take out cash or
you can do a debit transaction which is
what I did so I figured the fastest way
of getting the money out without having
to drive around and waste gas was to do
a debit transaction so what I did was I
don't really have anything that I wanted
to spend $200 on so I my utility company
has an option where it can use a credit
debit card and so even though I'm
already paid up I paid you know probably
a couple months more of electric so I
just paid uh I paid $1.75 fee for that
and then I basically used up all the
money and then it it deducted right from
the account right away and then today
I'm going to close the account because
it's the last of the month they will be
charging me a $5 fee probably they're
going to say what they what they do if
you don't have direct deposit they will
charge you a $5 a month fee if you don't
have a direct deposit the previous month
they will charge you a $5 a month fee so
today is August 31st tomorrow is the 1
so I'm guessing that they do the charges
on September 1st so what I'm going to do
today is I'm going to I closed out the
account I have a zero balance so what
I'm going to do is I'm going to call
customer service and I it takes about 30
or 40 minutes to get a hold of anyone
and by the way when you call customer
service guess what they ask for the
system ask for your it asks for the full
number on the ATM card including that
the three-digit number then it also asks
for your mother's maiden name then it
asks for your full Social Security
number so in order to access their their
online system you have to give them your
full social security number and even
when I was speaking with customer
service the guy asked for my social
security number and I I didn't provide
it to him I did provide it to the system
but I'll never provide my social
security number to a a disreputable
company and especially to individuals
because the individual could be working
on their own could be collecting Social
Security numbers on the side uh secretly
getting that information on the side and
then running a scam business on their
own away when they're away from work so
I never give that sort of information
when I can so what other options do they
have they have the bank transfer uh but
they also have a debit card transfer so
you can link your debit card to transfer
money to your go-to bank so you can't
transfer money out so they're even
charging a fee for that a 3% 3% fee for
that minimum $2 so they're making money
all different ways deposit cash now they
charge a fee a lot of these places will
charge a fee to deposit cash too like if
you go to Walmart or the retailers will
charge a fee retail service $4.95 or
less by retailer the main reason I
signed up for this was because it
sounded like a quick $100 I knew this
was an awful product to begin with and
it had awful ratings but the idea of
getting $100 within a couple days don't
forget to press like button share and
subscribe and the affiliate program seem
pretty decent so this affiliate program
has a cap of $1,500 so I had a walfront
one that was only like four referrals
and it tapped out at like
$120 and then I've got a lot of other
ones where they only give you like you
know $500 of referrals this one gives
you up to $1,500 in referrals so the
idea that I I could actually refer
people they could get a $100 bonus and I
would get you know up to
$1,500 seemed like a decent thing even
though the product is really awful so it
says here the qualifying deposit must be
made by the referred individuals
employer payroll provider government
benefits unemployment benefits by the AC
payer by an a deposit this is the thing
about bonuses that I really hate so goto
Bank Reserves the right to cancel or
modify the terms of the referral offer
or terminate the members eligibility at
any time with or without prior notice so
do I have any sort of recourse here if I
file a complaint with the Consumer
Financial Protection Bureau or the
Better Business Bureau I've seen
somebody before they had a legitimate
employer Direct Deposit they filed a
complaint with the Consumer Financial
Protection Bureau and they said they
ultimately cided with goto bank and I
think this is the reason we're not
talking about your money this is a bonus
that the company's paying they're free
to willy-nilly pay it as they want to or
refuse it as they want to even if you
have a legitimate Direct Deposit they
can deny it and they can be within their
legal right to do so according to this
so I don't think there's any any sort of
thing that protects when you have this
in your terms I mean they can pretty
much do what they want I mean they're
basically the dictator now it says right
here here we go the reward is paid to
each party within 48 hours after
qualifying funds are first deposited
into the referred new account well
today's Thursday it's not there so they
weren't honest with that so I'm going to
close this account now I did do a video
where I've got you know potentially
people that are going to be doing
referrals on this so I'm actually going
to remove that link and I'll post uh
maybe a link to this video telling
people why they shouldn't sign up for
this
company how did I know this was sort of
going to happen well I read the reviews
when I went to the maximizing money
review they actually have a warning
there so if we go down here right here
warning warning about go to Bank
referral program unfortunately go to
bank does not seem to be honoring the
referral bonuses for new customers who
meet the qualifications so we cannot
confirm that you will definitely receive
the bonus payout if you meet the
qualifications please proceed at your
own risk okay so that's that's how I
knew we've contacted goto Bank about
these are recurrences and the customer
service has not been helpful in regards
to honoring the referral program so yeah
the same thing as I did whenever I asked
a a technical question it sort of fell
on deaf ears and then I just sort of
knew that I wasn't dealing with anybody
they could answer my questions and I and
I ended the call so if we actually
scroll down we can we can see in the
comments there's more people here this
is where the good stuff is these are the
real people I absolutely hate this card
and have been trying for a week to
activate my new go-to card this is the
most ridiculous debit card I've ever
tried to use I can't get this card
activated for nothing if I cancel the
card now how how do I get my money here
we go this was September 2021 I used
your link did the $200 direct deposit
employer payroll and still did not
receive the bonus now when I inquire
about it they told me I have to have the
person who referred me contact them
because I need they need to verify me
and my referrer so I I don't want to
deal with that and this is not the first
time I've heard that they'll actually
ask the name of the person and that
basically allows them to cheat you out
of the referral if they were going to do
this and ask for verification guess what
they should have contacted me via phone
or email and said yesterday or the day
before give me the name of your referral
give me the name of the person that you
signed up with but they didn't so that
tells me they're just looking to scam
people out of their money I signed up
and had a direct deposit of 300 plus and
didn't receive the bonus I just called
and was told that the department isn't
open till
Monday so that was maximizing money but
there's also other places trust pilot
let's see what they say 1.3 not very
good this card is a scam after using the
card and seeing the high fees for adding
money in the fact they also charge you a
service fee monthly I decided I didn't
want the card I canceled the card
several months mon ago and now I'm
getting emails about checking my account
they've still been charging me a monthly
fee you can't speak to anyone unless you
have a card number when I canceled the
card I cut it up and discarded it they
can add up all the service fees I want I
will not be paying them so I think in
regard to that I will be sending them a
I will be sending them an email uh
canceling the account and that way I'll
have a record of it in addition so I'll
be able to follow up on it I'll have the
email record to know when I when I did
the call and everything
still fighting for my money after almost
four weeks I finally received my new
debit card in the mail I used it three
times the following morning I tried to
use the card and received a suspected
fraud result since then I've been unable
to use the card at all they tell me
there's nothing wrong with the card and
I should be able to use it but they're
also saying there's some huge glitch in
their system some technical glitch they
refused to send my money they refused to
send me a type of letter explaining the
reason why I'm unable to pay my storage
fees and my phone bill and other bills
that I have passed due now for a month
nothing in writing no email no letter
explaining the glitch or Reason while
I'm unable to have money transferred
into a different account I am looking to
report them to the OCC or Consumer
Financial
Protection this is appalling how can a
bank get away with such practice will
they're not actually a bank as far as I
know I am on a fixed income and
unfortunately I had my government checks
direct deposit in into goto bank because
I like getting paid early and the
overdraft protection I ended up homeless
a few months ago and had to pay deposits
to stay in hotel rooms quite often wow I
think this may actually be worse than
chime so is goto Bank worse than chime
the monthly fee I think makes it worse
than chime so you're adding they're
adding basically um $60 a year in fees I
would check out go to bank would hold my
deposits from hotels I would Che check
out goto bank would hold my deposits
from hotels for almost 2 weeks sometimes
it would be two two at a time in the
mean times my my bills were coming in
and I had to use the overdraft to cover
them I was charged $15 in fees for the
week some were three in one day and my
overdraft is suspended goto bank is so
greedy and does not care about its
customers there you have it I mean I
think that sums it up pretty well too
many fees another thing I've read uh one
person was saying they did Direct direct
deposits every month and then uh some
months they most months they wouldn't
have a fee but then some months they had
a fee so they weren't they were still
denying those direct deposits from the
employer goto bank owned by green.
Corporation has permanently locked my
account and refused to refund my money
and refuse access to my account they
were once known as goto bank and lost a
multi-million dollar case lost a
multi-million dollar lawsuit at the same
for the same business practices they
were using at goto bank they have
learned nothing from their Court loss
often other than to change their name
question mark I have filed a complaint
with the Better Business Bureau and
filed a complaint with the attorney
general and doj seek legal remedy I
deposited my money and I can't get my
money back they keep telling me to wait
1 hour or two hours and then the same
issue pending refunds they will remove
them whenever they want without getting
the refund plus it takes forever they
have lost over $500 of my money this
last time and over 700 another time I
will not use them anymore and recommend
that no one else use them either their
customer service is a joke unbelievable
thieves I don't think I found a single
positive review out of all these locked
my account permanently for no reason
they said they aren't required to give a
reason except for suspicious activity
there we go there's the suspicious
activity scam the suspicious activity
Bank scam is seems to be rampant and
companies are taking advantage of it
companies like chime companies like Vero
companies like current stay away I've
had nothing but issues with this Bank
since I've opened this account I had my
direct deposit and they locked my
account and made a zero balance and said
your account is locked due to suspicious
activity first first of all they won't
tell me what and put it back in the
account so why am I reactivating my card
I told the bank manager I was closing
the account later on I got home to work
anded tried to log into the account and
it kept saying too many attempts so I
fin she made the mistake of telling them
she was closing the account while the
while it still had funds in it and then
trying to get access and so then they
locked her account I had 150 total went
to ATM to withdraw A40 plus $3 fee for
my remaining balance there you go
there's their money $3 fee was $4 on my
card I'm glad I found out before it was
too late I ain't I ain't never seen such
a fraudulent business scam in my life
and then she's got some explosives here
go Bank go to bank that was August 4 so
that's a recent one this one's June 22nd
of this year the only plus is I can pay
to load it load within walking distance
but the list of annoyances an ad adum I
don't know what that word is adium got a
card from the store money stolen wow
goto Bank locked my account 31 days ago
and refuses to give me my money balance
of 16 holy cow
$16,000 I've sent verification and they
said it did not pass it was a valid
license sounds like chime to me the
government needs to do something about
this this is an ongoing problem and it's
not scams committed by Outsiders it
scams it's a scam it's a fraud committed
by the bank itself or the fintech itself
oh here's a positive review this is the
only one I've seen so far this must be a
paid one this sounds like an ad $200
overdraft protection they are part of
green
do.com I would highly recommend this
online banking service for everyone this
sounds like an ad to me I have almost
$4,000 in my go-to bank account and they
locked it for suspicious activity they
told me to take pictures of the front
and back of my ID there we go there's
that scam again the driver's license
suspicious activity scam this type of
account in order to earn interest you
actually have to move the money into a
separate account or like a separate pods
so you have to click here where it says
start saving now you have to set up they
call it a vault set up a vault to start
saving today a vault is where you can
stash money separate from your available
balance like I said the the opportunity
the only way to make this scam really
profitable is to have one sort of pod
where they can get interest free money
from customers that they scam at zerar
so they can get basically a$0 loan and
then the other one that draws interest
that's basically Market marting promo
for customers to sign up with and when
the new direct deposits go in they're
going to go in the one that gets zero
and then they can lock the account and
get the money or when they lock the
account they can that way when they lock
the account they're going to be able to
get that access to that money and not
have to pay interest on it so if I hit
get started here you see it says um I
have to actually add money and then set
up a vault I didn't set up a vault ahead
of time so I'm getting nothing on it
that's another way they scam you so this
is what I've noticed so wfront cash
account on its own for seems like it
could be scammy like this however it
doesn't have a two-tier account system
it doesn't have a separate checking from
the savings it's a unified account that
means the scam is not going to be
profitable and that's why you don't have
those problems with wealth front cash
account even though they're using green.
bank which is an awful Bank they're
using green do bank so I I sort of asked
myself this question a while ago why is
wealth front not scammy why is front
cash account not scammy like those other
three Vero chime go to bank why are they
not scammy like them because this is
also a fintech and they're also using
green. bank but if if we actually scroll
down I think it's okay here it says
we've partnered with Greenbank the
checking features offered on your
wealthfront cash account are provided by
and the wealthfront Visa debit card is
issued by Greenbank member FDIC checking
features for the cash account are sub
subject to identity verification by
Greenbank and the wfront Visa debit card
is optional and must be requested wfront
products and services are not provided
by Green do bank it's a little
conflicting so I thought it sounded like
the green do bank is actually doing the
service the checking services but now it
say it says wfront products and services
are not provided by Green do Bank
Greenbank operates under the following
registered Trade names go to bank go
bank and bonnaville Bank all of these
registered names are used by and refer
to a single FDIC insured Bank green.
bank so there you have it so the fact
that Greenbank is associated with the
wealthfront cash account you know made
me think okay it's going to be scammy
but I haven't had any issues and when
you look at the complaints if you look
at the reviews for wealth R there's only
11 reviews so it says poor but hardly
anyone's complaining beware this was
company blocked my account worst
Investment company uh but you're talking
about billions of dollars and you've
only got 11 complaints on here decent
new partnership is not good well this
was from 2020 a lot of people are not
happy that they use green. Bank new
partnership with green. bank is not good
so you're actually seeing some good mix
with the bad whereas when it's an actual
scam company like chime or Vero or some
of the other fexs this is you know going
to be 30 or 40 pages long with all kinds
of people complain this is only 11
people complaining so you know you would
look at this you would think they they
don't have hardly any customers but I
think it's just uh people aren't having
that many issues with the wealth front
and this is their whole business here
mostly this is the investment and people
complaining about the bank portion so
not too
bad I received a little bit of
conflicting information when I search
for close account I see how do I close
my goto Bank secured credit card now I
believe this may be a different product
than the goto to bank account that I
have this one says call customer service
to close your account however I found
another place that says how to close
your account to close your account log
into the goto Bank app and select menu
manage cards and close your account or
log into your account at go to bank and
select if you still have money in your
account you have three options when
closing your account online or through
the app spend down the balance to zero
use the card to make purchases in store
and online for ATM withdrawals pick up
cash if your balance is at least
$22.50 use a bar code generated through
the gobank app or gobank.com to pick up
cash at Walmart $2.50 to $5 service fee
applies and will be deducted from your
balance get a refund check this is
probably the one you're least likely to
get the check will be sent to your
address within 14 days of closing the
account well that's probably never going
to happen 14 days they said I would get
the money in 48 hours I never got it
your account will automatically close
when your balance reaches zero once you
close your account you can view the
account statements and history at go to
bank or in the app now that I Clos my
account it's your account is now closed
you will be able to access transaction
history so you can see I have a zero
balance and I actually clicked to lock
the card first and I closed it so I
should be good okay also I have an email
your goto bank account has been closed
closed zero balance and it's closed your
debit card will no longer be active and
cannot be used to make purchases I
noticed that Greenbank has been bragging
about having this particular award and
they have it prominently displayed on
their website it says most trustworthy
companies in America Newsweek
statista
2023 Newsweek named Green Dot one of
2023 is most trustworthy companies in
the US wow it's not April 1st is it it
so I actually looked into this a little
bit I went to the website and I was
thinking only the most exclusive
companies get this award right so you
would think you know maybe there's three
companies that are winning this right
guess how many companies were awarded
this award three four five try
700 there were 700 Award winners 700
companies were awarded this award so
this is basically meaningless and guess
how many people they had they did a pool
of 25,00 people a survey and not all of
them were even customers as far as I
know not all of them were customers some
of them if they were customers they gave
it a higher waiting but they're asking
them questions like how they feel about
something and you want to see real
customers you go to the reviews you go
to the comments that's where you see the
real reviews and they're horrible here's
the statements say ask I trust this
company to treat me fairly as a customer
okay so right there I think they would
fail I believe this company offers good
opportunities for for career development
okay that's not really relevant I
believe this company would be a good
long-term investment that's not relevant
either the first one they would
definitely fail at if they actually
asked the customers let's look at the
details of this study this was from
February of 2023 so it's not too old
95,000 evaluations of companies were
submitted so I'm not sure maybe they
selected the ones that were the best
advertisers for Newsweek I I'm not sure
how it worked out but I'm guessing
there's some money in involved in this
sort of thing these guys are probably
all all the 700 winners are probably all
advertisers social listing here's
another one if they actually listen to
what people are saying they would lose
how potential customers view the company
I trust this company's products and
services should I have a complaint as
the customer of this company I trust
that it would be addressed to my full
satisfaction I trust this company's
advertising and Communications claims
wow they failed at all of those now it
says here that they're actually looking
at web articles forums comment sections
I don't think so web articles news
forums social comments press releases
well if they actually read those they
would see that they're all negative and
the company wouldn't get any awards now
if you look at customer trust it's only
40% of the score investor trust and
employee trust is 60% the customer is
not even number one in the study just to
show you how ridiculous the study is so
you're looking at the the number of
companies awarded so they basically
awarded almost all the aerospace
companies three Aerospace Awards 24
Construction Company Awards 47 Energy
company Awards this is ridiculous okay
they didn't even spell this right
insurances there's there's no such word
as far as I know that's how much
attention to detail they play 35
companies so they basically selected
every insurance company and Banks 37
Banks were awarded by the way their
ranking is pretty bogus so they have
axos bank is number three which it
definitely should not be number three
this is industry
rank they put all these Banks most of
them I've never even used they have JP
Morgan all the way at number 15 they put
Green Dot the industry rank at 31 I
think that's being pretty generous so I
guess there were better advertisers out
there and they get a better score than
them by the way if they're actually
reading these news articles they'll see
articles like this more Green Dot Bank
customers say they can't access their
funds this one is only uh a few days old
August
26th from 2017 class action lawsuit
