approachable and likable that's how

these stories work so certainly banco's

nobility of character contrasts with

Macbeth's baseness it's the Kane and

Abel story again again go back and watch

here uh he he is the better brother Bank

was the better brother the character

foil that makes Macbeth look bad and

that ideal

has to be destroyed because by its very

existence it casts judgment on the

person who was not living up to not even

close to that ideal it's either easier

to destroy the ideal uh than to try to

live up to it so a banquet does have a

strong moral sense just like Macbeth and

Lady Macbeth they have a strong moral

sense yes that in that sense they're

counterparts but uh uh mcbanko's moral

sense is not overridden by a crude

selfish impulse or it's not overwritten

by weakness of character by edible fears

and things like that so in that case do

we have sympathy for Macbeth uh does

that's a question I ask in my theme

video do the Macbeth's deserve uh uh are

they are they redeemable or I argue I

think I argue in my other video that

they at least deserve our pity because

we deserve our own pity too

for our own weaknesses uh this is really

really interesting and I talk about that

in the in the theme video as well that I

think Banco is actually a part of

Macbeth's psyche and what Macbeth does

actually in this scene right here he's

talking to uh uh um uh he's talking to a

part of himself that he knows is is the

good part of himself and whenever he

talks to the good part of himself but he

knows he's going to do something that's

not good that goes against his nature

then he has a panic attack do you see

that that that happens a couple of times

in the play it's really really

interesting confronted by the good

brother confronted by the the the the

better part of your own nature and you

know you're going to do something that's

going to corrupt that nature that's

where your your nervous system Rebels

very very interesting also interesting

about a bank was that he's human he is

tempted he's very he's tempted in the

same way that Macbeth is tempted by

these witches he says to them uh you you

talk to Macbeth and you told him all

these great things well what about me

well there's the same kind of ambition

it's a natural human response to this DC

so he he is Noble but he is human he's

imperfect but he possesses the strength

of character that's the difference fine

MacBeth what what what Writers Do Is

they give they test characters they

create a situation and then they drop

character a into that situation to see

how that kind of character would behave

they drop character B in the situation

and see how that character is going to

behave and this is exactly what's

Happening Here the only difference

between their responses is that

banquil has the strength of character to

pull back from the edge

he knows himself enough to know that

that's not the kind of guy he is DC he's

tempted by the witches but he's able to

resist and this is the scene here where

he's actually he looks at flions and he

says well the witch has said that my son

could be king my son can be king what

could I do to speed that process and so

then he shakes it off and he says

merciful Powers dear God restrain in me

the murderous thoughts the cursed

thoughts that nature gives way to and

Repose we are human beings and we do we

do have uh awful fantasies uh but the

what makes us good or bad is not the

absence of those horrible fantasies what

makes us good or bad is the banquil

element in us that strength of character

and that self-awareness to pull back

from the brink

Shakespeare Shakespeare he knew it all

uh so he is self-aware Banker was

self-aware he knows his strength and he

confronts his weakness weaknesses

honestly uh and in a lot of Shakespeare

uh that that honesty and that openness

is is uh is is indicative of of a

healthy psyche and a healthy Society a

non-wasteland society is a society that

is honest with itself a non-wasteland

personality or psyche is one that is

honest and open with itself because what

where all these Horrors come from it's

all the result all of it a result of

self-deception all of it I I I want to

be what I am not and I will burn the

world down to try to achieve that that's

oh it's so smart uh anyway so this this

is really interesting quote as well so

this is this is the scene where where

Macbeth comes up and says hey man

it looks like you know I I there's a

chance that I could become king and you

want to come along wink wink nudge nudge

uh and and Banco looks at him and he

knows what's going on and banquet says I

will join you I will I so long as I lose

no honor in seeking to augment my honor

I will join you I will be with you uh

but still keep my bosom franchise and

Allegiance clear I shall be counseled I

will listen to you as long as I can keep

my honor intact so there it is again

there's that that that sure he's tempted

like all of us are tempted but he's able

to pull back he's able to he knows

what's good and he knows that that he

that to not be good would be a violation

of his nature in a violation of his

principles so wisdom he's very very wise

he sees through the witch's sociopathic

manipulations uh his judgment is not

clouded by fantasies of personal Glory

that come from our weaknesses like

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's weaknesses

here

so here's a great line here he says uh

when the witches give them all of this

good news good news to banquil as well

because your son will be king uh and

banqua says very wisely but it is

strange and oftentimes to witness to

their harm the instruments of Darkness

now Shakespeare in in Othello the

instruments of Darkness associated with

Satan the satanic forces are Iago and

they tell us truths they manipulate us

the sociopath manipulates Us by telling

us truths

over the course of six months you'll

meet people like this ladies and

gentlemen in your life in your work in

your workplace in your classrooms maybe

you already have be wise to the

sociopaths the Psychopaths because they

do exist uh in whatever percentage of

the population and you will meet them

and they witness to their they when they

make us trust them by by being good here

by being good here by being honest here

by being honest there and then when we

trust them that's when they betray Us in

deepest consequence that's when they

stick the knife in our back do you see

they win us with honest Trifles those

honest little things but then later on

the big things they stick Us in the back

do you see so he's smart he's smart uh

he he's not like Othello who doesn't see

through iago's manipulations uh he does

see through the The Witch's

manipulations it's a satanic force that

kind of the equivocation and the lies

and the manipulations are associated

with satanic forces in Shakespeare

uh so we we can also see him then as

perhaps a balance of forces he's he's a

model man he's a balance of forces again

go back and watch the manhood uh theme a

man who doesn't complex creature that

has all of these elements that are

working in like like a like a well-oiled

machine and nothing is out of place and

nothing is out of balance and so we see

that in in bankroll he's a good guy and

Macbeth admits as much remember Macbeth

is is morally aware he knows what's good

and he knows what's bad and he knows

that bank was a good guy it is much he

dares so he's Brave and to that

dauntless temper of his mind he has

wisdom that does guide his Valor Valor

to act in safety so Macbeth recognizes

his wisdom Macbeth recognizes his Valor

he's he's a good man so there's bankroll

way too good and that was Shakespeare
