Is Taking Multivitamins and Omega 3 Worth It - Kris Gethin Breaks It Down
Summary
TLDRThe video script from TRS Clips discusses the importance of multivitamins and fish oils for overall health, especially in the context of depleted soil nutrients affecting food quality. It suggests that modern diets may not provide sufficient micronutrients, advocating for multivitamins as an insurance policy. The script also emphasizes the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, recommending high-quality sources and discussing alternatives for vegetarians. It concludes by highlighting the role of micronutrients in supporting muscle function and overall health efficiency.
Takeaways
- 🍊 The nutrient content in modern fruits like oranges is significantly lower compared to those from 60-70 years ago, with an example given that an orange today has 1/7th the vitamin C of an orange from a previous generation.
- 💊 Due to depleted soil quality and the over-harvesting of food, multivitamins are recommended as an insurance to supplement the deficiencies in the diet, especially for those who are not consuming a balanced amount of micronutrients.
- 🌱 Water-soluble vitamins are safe to take in excess as the body will simply excrete any surplus, making multivitamins a low-risk supplement for most people.
- 🏋️♂️ Active individuals may require even more vitamins and minerals than sedentary ones due to increased metabolic demands, emphasizing the importance of supplementation for those leading active lifestyles.
- 🌿 It's important to choose organic, farm-to-table multivitamins to ensure they are not lab-created and are of higher quality.
- 🐟 Fish oils are essential, especially in cultures with high omega-6 consumption, to balance the fatty acid intake and support overall health.
- 🛢️ The quality of fish oil supplements is crucial, with fresh fish sources being preferable to ensure the oil is not rancid.
- 🌍 Geographical sourcing of fish oils, such as from Alaska or Chile, can indicate the freshness and quality of the oil.
- 🌿 For vegetarians or those avoiding fish, alternative sources of omega-3s, such as those derived from seaweed, are a suitable and effective substitute.
- 💪 Micronutrients, including vitamins and minerals, play a crucial role in muscle health, aiding in contraction and relaxation processes, and are essential for overall health and body function.
- 🛡️ Health should be the priority, as a healthier body is more efficient and better able to respond to various processes, including muscle building and fat loss.

What are some alternative sources of omega-3s for vegetarians or those avoiding fish?
-Vegetarians can obtain omega-3s from alternative sources like seaweed-derived supplements, which are considered to be sufficient alternatives.
How do micronutrients like vitamins and omega-3s impact muscle building and fat loss processes?
-Micronutrients are essential for overall health, which in turn affects the efficiency of muscle building and fat loss processes. They support muscle contraction and relaxation, contributing to a healthier and more efficient body.
What is the script's stance on the importance of micronutrients over macronutrients for health?
-The script emphasizes the importance of micronutrients for overall health, suggesting that a healthier body will respond better to fitness goals, thus making micronutrients a priority.
Outlines
💊 The Necessity of Multivitamins and Fish Oils
The first paragraph introduces the topic of multivitamins and fish oils, questioning their scientific validity compared to a diet rich in raw vegetables and colorful fruits. It explains that due to soil depletion and overpopulation, the nutritional content of food has significantly decreased over the years. As a result, multivitamins serve as an insurance policy to supplement the nutrients our bodies may lack. The paragraph also touches on the importance of choosing organic-based multivitamins and high-quality fish oils, emphasizing the need for a fresh source to avoid rancid oils.

welcome to TRS Clips this was created so
that you can go on a binge watching
experience every time you want to
enhance your brain with information
happiness through Curiosity on the renby
show one last question for you on this
supplements special which is uh related
multivitamins and uh fish oils
Etc and I'm asking you this from a
perspective of people who are not
necessarily into weight training and
just want to be healthy what's the
scientific truth about multivitamins
what's the scientific truth about fish
oils uh omega-3 fatty acids as
supplements versus just from food can
a diet full of raw veggies and different
colored fruits and vegetables do the
same job for you that multivitamins can
a lot of the time no unfortunately if
you were to ask me this question maybe
60 70 years ago I'd have a different
answer because now with the
overpopulation of the countries the over
Harvest station of the food uh our soil
now is very much depleted to what it was
many many years ago so as an example
like an orange I don't know if I
mentioned this before that say our
grandfather's age would have seven times
the amount of vitamin C than the orange
at we're consuming today so a lot of the
food that we're eating no matter how
healthy we're eating is very deficient
so it's very important that you do take
in like a multivitamin as your insurance
a lot of the vitamins are water soluble
anyway so whatever your body doesn't use
it's just gonna pee out maybe you'll
have a little bit more expensive piss
you know that's all right it's a safe
haven so you know I if you're an active
individual then you'll probably need
even more vitamins and minerals but for
the sedentary individual for sure only
because of the malnutrition that we have
going on in our food system today and if
you are eating proteins that feed
from the soil as well feed from the
grass they're going to be deficient as
well so it is a safe haven and make sure
that that multivitamin is like organic
based so it isn't created in a lab so we
can we call that Pharmacy to table
multivitamins Instead try to go through
a farm to table multivitamin gotcha and
with fish oils as well again a lot of
the fish is Factory farmed maybe a lot
of people don't eat fish as much as they
should and an omega-3 oils especially in
a culture where we're consuming so much
vitamin uh omega-6 uh I think is very
important that you go for a good good
um omega-3 oil that is maybe maybe you
know that it's been extracted from
Alaska or off the coast of Chile or
something like that it's not like when
you look at a multi an Omega oil it
should be quite light in color so it's
been extracted from that fish that's
fresh as opposed to very dark and cloudy
in color which probably hasn't because
that oil usually goes rancid in the fish
after it's been killed and then they
leave it and they don't extract it until
days later that's going to be a rancid
oil
also the pure vegetarian questionnaire
like people are not willing to have
omega-3s which are derived directly from
fish I know there's Alternatives which
are derived from seaweed yeah exactly
does that supplement enough yeah that's
absolutely fine that's absolutely fine
yes okay uh and one kind of step back
kind of question why we talk about
highlighting vitamins uh fish oils
what does it biologically do to your
muscle building process or your fat loss
process or just your immunity on a
biological level what does it do well if
you're healthier if your engine is going
to be more highly tuned then it's going
to be more efficient at more outputs a
better output so a lot of people look at
the macronutrients instead of the
micronutrients the micronutrients
provide provide more Health to the body
so it can help with muscle contraction
muscle relaxation you know especially
minerals in the body so you know it
helps from a health standpoint which
should be a priority because when you're
healthier your body responds better okay
gotcha if you enjoyed this video just
know that we've got a bunch of curated
playlists on this channel just for you
so you don't have to consume every
single subject that we cover on DRS but
you do have to consume the playlist that
you enjoy the most that's what I'm not
you towards
[Music]
thank you
