Takeaways
- 📚 Bebo Jones provides a tutorial for optimizing the distribution office in the game 'Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic'.
- 🔄 The distribution office's percentage setting determines when trucks are sent out, and it's crucial for efficient operation.
- ❌ Avoid setting up the distribution office as shown in a previous video, as it can lead to inefficiencies.
- 🚚 The percentage threshold should be related to the cargo capacity of the truck used for specific products, ensuring trucks are not underutilized.
- 📉 Limit the amounts of products to a reasonable level to prevent over-delivery and maintain control over what is being transported.
- 🔄 Two different ways to apply the percentage: one is the 'bad way' which can lead to uncontrolled delivery of unspecified products.
- 🛒 When using limited amounts, the percentage is applied to the product itself rather than the entire warehouse, which is the preferred method.
- 📏 Choose a percentage that allows for a full truckload or close to it, providing enough buffer for efficient operation.
- 🚫 Do not mix different cargo types in the same distribution office if you want to maintain efficiency and control.
- 🚛 Consider using smaller trucks for low-volume commodities like clothing and electronics to reduce fuel consumption and increase efficiency.
- 🔄 The game's distribution office does not consider cargo capacity when assigning trucks, so having a single type of truck for each cargo type is beneficial.
Q & A
What is the main topic of this tutorial?
-The main topic of this tutorial is to teach viewers how to become a successful distribution office operator in the game 'Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic'.
What was the mistake Bebo Jones made in the previous video?
-In the previous video, Bebo Jones demonstrated a flawed setup for the distribution office that didn't work effectively and encouraged viewers not to follow that example.
What does the percentage number in the distribution office represent?
-The percentage number in the distribution office represents the threshold at which the office tells its trucks to go and deliver goods to the destination once the current storage falls below this percentage.
How does the distribution office apply the percentage number incorrectly?
-The incorrect application of the percentage number is when it is applied to the whole storage of the destination, leading to inefficient delivery of goods without control over the specific products being delivered.
What is the recommended way to set up the distribution office for efficient operation?
-The recommended way is to limit the amounts of goods to a reasonable amount based on the consumption rates of different products and to relate the percentage number to the cargo capacity of the trucks used for delivering specific products.
Why is it suggested to use the same type of truck for the same cargo type in a distribution office?
-Using the same type of truck for the same cargo type ensures that the distribution office sends the right truck for the job, avoiding inefficiencies and traffic jams caused by mismatched truck capacities and cargo types.
What is the advantage of using a smaller truck for certain cargo types?
-Smaller trucks can be more fuel-efficient, potentially faster, and better suited for low-volume commodities like clothing and electronics, where the consumption rate is much lower.
What is the issue with using a refrigerator truck for delivering meat to a store with a one-ton capacity?
-The issue is that the refrigerator truck has a capacity of 6.5 tons, which is much larger than the store's capacity, leading to inefficiency as the truck will often run with a small fraction of its capacity being utilized.
What is the recommended approach if a store has a low-capacity requirement for certain goods?
-For low-capacity requirements, it may be more effective to use a direct line with 'wait until full' and 'wait until empty' settings, allowing for more efficient delivery to multiple nearby stores on the same route.
What is the importance of assigning trucks to a cargo station in a distribution office setup?
-Assigning trucks to a cargo station allows the trucks to drop off whatever cargo they can and then leave without causing traffic jams, which is a feature not available with a line setup.
How can viewers benefit from the mistakes made in the previous tutorial?
-Viewers can benefit by understanding the correct setup and avoiding the pitfalls demonstrated in the previous tutorial, thus improving their own distribution office operations in the game.
Outlines
🎓 Introduction and Purpose of the Tutorial
Bebo Jones introduces the tutorial on becoming a successful distribution office operator in the game 'Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic'. He plans to cover essential aspects such as understanding percentages, determining the number of trucks needed, and optimizing distribution offices. He also addresses a previous error in his setup and aims to correct it in this tutorial.
📊 Understanding Distribution Percentages
Bebo explains the importance of setting the correct distribution percentages. He demonstrates how an incorrect setup can lead to inefficiencies, such as trucks not being fully loaded. The key takeaway is that the distribution percentage dictates when trucks are sent out based on the storage level of the destination.
🚚 Efficient Setup and Cargo Limitation
Bebo shows how to set limits on the amount of each product to avoid overstocking and ensure efficient delivery. He emphasizes the need to adjust these limits based on the consumption rates of different products and the capacity of the trucks being used. For example, food consumption is higher than clothes and electronics.
🔧 Adjusting Distribution Based on Truck Capacity
To optimize distribution, Bebo advises matching the distribution office settings with the truck's cargo capacity. He suggests setting a percentage that allows for a full truckload to be delivered, providing an example with food distribution.
🛠 Practical Tips for Distribution Offices
Bebo provides additional tips for optimizing distribution offices, such as using smaller trucks for low-volume goods and ensuring that trucks are efficiently utilized. He highlights the importance of having trucks for specific cargo types to avoid inefficiencies and discusses the benefits of having a single distribution office with appropriate truck types.
🏬 Managing Multiple Stores and Distribution Points
Bebo explains how to manage deliveries to multiple stores using a distribution office. He suggests that one truck per cargo type can effectively serve multiple stores, especially for low-consumption items like clothing and electronics. He also discusses the use of lines for specific deliveries, such as meat, to improve efficiency.
📈 Improving Distribution Office Efficiency
Bebo concludes with strategies to maximize the efficiency of distribution offices. He discusses setting up separate distribution offices for different product types if necessary and optimizing truck usage. He emphasizes that while some inefficiencies are inevitable, thoughtful planning and setup can significantly improve performance.

Transcripts
hello and welcome back i'm bebo jones
this is a tutorial for workers and
resources soviet republic today i tell
you everything you need to know to
become a successful distribution office
operator i will answer questions about
what the percentages mean how many
trucks to use and how many distribution
offices to use at the same time
okay first off i would like to thank
everyone that pointed out at the last
video when i said 89 of you are using
distribution office wrong
about one big flaw that i set up in the
test it's still true don't set it up the
way i showed you last time because that
way the distribution office just can't
work
um but there are reasons it's not just
one reason it has a lot to do with this
number but there's more to it than just
that i want to show you what i mean so
if i set it up this way this is just
exactly the test as last time there's
currently no no nothing in here and this
distribution office is set up to bring
um things out there if i just let this
run we will see exactly what happened
last time this truck is not going to be
full just going to drop off something 62
translates to about four tons they will
drop that off right here and once it
gets there everyone is happy and they
get what they need to do
and well is this ideal no but the
problem will happen
in a second
once this guy drops off its food now the
food is dropped off that is slightly
above 100 would you agree cool
let this run go below 100
one truck i'm trying to find him right
now there's a truck that will have to go
back and refill the deficit it's this
one the same truck so i was just looking
for which distribution offer what the
choice is but it's set to six percent
why did it do that because i set the
distribution office right here to 100 so
once there's a little bit of a product
missing from the destination the
distribution office sends another truck
now let's explain what that really means
why that is the number that you see here
this is the number when the distribution
office tells its trucks to go that is
all it does and this number is very
important and it can be applied two
different ways and i'll show you what i
mean by that in just a second but this
really just means once below that
percentage go it's nothing to do with
the cargo capacity and nothing to do
with anything else just go cool
um what does this number really do there
are two different ways it's applied
the first way
is the bad way if you don't limit your
amount and let's say we have this
scenario that we have right now
and this is set to 100
if you set it up this way then the
distribution office number
100 is applied to the whole storage of
the destination in this case it's shown
up here right now it's only 63 full so
if i let this run and distribution
office does a quick refresh it will send
more trucks to deliver something
the problem
this one is sending 68 of that and then
this one is trying to send 71 of that
okay it's not the end of the world the
problem here is that you don't
necessarily have a
um a say in what you're actually
delivering you're only delivering some
product but it's hard to say what it is
but hey it's filling up to 100
the problem happens when you deliver
only food or only clothes because then
you don't have room for the other one so
don't set it up this way this is
actually doing a lot better than i
expected it to
but uh don't trust that
maybe
okay what you should what should you do
instead well let's empty this whole
thing really quick you should limit the
amounts limit the amounts to a
reasonable amount of uh
just product whatever you need and you
should look at this if you use it at a
store like i'm doing right now i know
that food consumption is a lot higher
than clothes and electronics are
definitely really really low
so that's how you should set this up
food will use the most so let's set it
up to something that's reasonable and
how do you pick the right number here i
tell you
the number that you pick should be
related to the cargo capacity of the
truck in your distribution office that
you want to use for the product that you
want to deliver in this case food food
is 6.5 tons of food okay so that will be
right here ish approximately why don't i
use this number pretty simple because
once the truck drops off and you filled
up the whole food thing um you will
leave and then the truck will come back
once the number or the distribution
office will send the truck again
once the number in the current storage
is below
the percentage that you set in the
distribution office
i feel like i may have missed saying
this but if you set it up with the
limited amount then the percentage is
applied to the product itself instead of
the whole warehouse that's important so
um if you set this to for example
let's just say 30 that's the default
version that the distribution office
comes with if you set it to that
then 30 of this which is about 2.1 tons
ish means there's a little buffer there
where truck can go from the distribution
office to the source
to um
let's just let this run from the
distribution office to the source so
you're not going to run out of things
and that is actually a good thing we're
just going to let the let the trucks do
their thing i'm assuming you are picking
up
the wrong
button yeah you're picking up food
you're essentially 100 because we're
only 6.5 and that is not bad so the
truck will come out here do its thing
drop it off and another truck looks like
clothes are yeah clothes were just at 50
so nobody's gonna bring in clothes
but there you go
and uh you're just gonna have trucks
sitting there for a while which is not
the end of the world
but the problem happens when you go down
to 30 of the food that you have now
which is what we say
close to two close to two tons so let's
get to that point
because i don't just want to tell you
dry theory
um and see what happens so once you go
below 2.1 tons
ish approximately soon
someone
there we go
it's sometimes a little delayed you only
load 69 off boot which is a lot better
than the test that i showed you last
time on the tutorial that i showed you
last time but still not optimal so how
can you change this give yourself a
little more room give yourself enough
room that when the percentage limiter is
hit
there is approximately enough space for
one full truckload is what you want to
do and i played with that a little bit a
good number is right here
um nope this one a good number is right
here 8.81 tons it's not exactly a full
truckload but it's really close to it
another nice thing this number will
upgrade to 100
i guarantee you because the distribution
office is smart enough to understand
that there's now more space here so
we'll tell their guys hey instead of
just getting something uh how about you
fill up the whole thing there 100
that was no cut i promise um so we'll
bring the food out
and adjust on the fly and that's that's
awesome it'll bring it down here and
then it will fill up the storage that is
available there now the nice thing is
like i just showed you before if you do
it this way
and you consume down to the percentage
that you had before
you will be able and we'll just do that
automatically we are here
um it's about 2.64 at this point there
we go we're below it now
this guy is actually gonna go and it
didn't have to do anything but this guy
actually got a command because he's
already driving the distribution office
prefers vehicles that are already on
route then vehicles that are parked um
to go pick up the next round
so this one's going to get it
we're still consuming more so this
number got updated again to 99 and
that's that's pretty close that's pretty
close to ideal you could make it a
little better but um there's always a
trade-off what is the trade-off the guys
down here clothing and electronics
clothing you don't use a lot but as you
can see our storage percentage is or
the volume is only 2.64 tons which is
not a lot when you look at the capacity
of the full truck which is 6.5 tons
let's see what happens when we empty
this whole thing
well
the numbers are funny there but what
will happen is some truck and i don't
know which one maybe maybe this one yep
this one loads about 40
and not more and that's not ideal
you can decide if this is good enough
for you because you will only have a
truck like this come every once in a
while but food trucks will show up a lot
more than that
so if you want to make this a little
more optimal what you can do is use a
smaller truck we tested out before
smaller trucks can use less fuel and are
a little more efficient and can
potentially be faster the problem is
let's look at some options that we have
here
uh covered hall total capacity
this is the standard one that you have
most of the time especially in the
beginning has an engine power of 118 and
empty weight of eight tons okay
there's a smaller version of that one um
where are you
here
it's the exact same truck just a little
smaller it still has an engine power of
118 and an empty weight of six tons if
you would use this instead of the big
one you would actually be less efficient
and you wouldn't be able to transport as
much cargo as the big one so you would
waste fuel because they essentially use
the same amount of fuel because they
almost weigh the same and they have the
same engine power so that's not great
what you want to do instead is find an
actual truck that is well the engine
power is different that may be a little
faster and that can transport the amount
that you want to use this one has 2.5
tons of clothes that is really good and
really close to what we can do here so i
would use that one
a problem let's just buy that one
a problem that you run into and i will
demonstrate right here let's reduce this
to nothing again
because we want clothing
you don't guarantee that the
distribution office sends the right
truck in this case it sends just a truck
and consider this random i'm sure there
is a reasoning for how they take it um
probably array-based but the
distribution office does not look at the
cargo capacity of your trucks it will
just send a truck it does not matter
what it is and so you don't really have
control over what
when where how so what you want to do
instead
is only have a distribution office
with the same trucks for the same cargo
types in this case covered holds can
transport food and clothing and
electronics and you know all the other
stuff that they can transport but have
them only for the
things that you know that the trucks
will mostly be full if you want to be
super efficient you don't have to be
super efficient i would argue like
clothing at least
is totally
totally worth just leaving them in there
because the amount of or the amount of
clothes that are consumed is so
minuscule
that
the one time your truck will drive it
will not hurt your efficiency and
building a separate distribution office
for that would be really expensive
electronics are very similar it's such a
low volume commodity that you may not
have to set up a separate distribution
office but if you if you do want a
separate distribution office with
smaller trucks
maybe do it i have one over here with
the smallest truck possible
um i would say maybe use the
medium-sized one and then you have a
good chance of just having a good
distribution but
this is a return on investment
calculation that you can make sometimes
it's worth it sometimes it's not if you
have a lot if you have a big city with a
lot of stores that you have to deliver
to
um it may be worth it to set up a
separate distribution office in the
beginning definitely only one and that
is good now another thing you should
consider look how many trucks are parked
here they're not doing anything after
the initial run
so
serving this one shop can easily be done
with just one refrigerator truck and one
covered hole
you don't need as many as i have here
where compare that to the line setup
that i have over here
essentially you want to have almost one
truck per cargo type that always waits
here another advantage of a distribution
office is
i have them signed assigned to the cargo
station right now
and that is okay that is allowed but
something that we can just do remove
that building
they sign the store itself because these
are not set up to
wait until full or wait until empty they
will just drop off whatever they can
then leave and they will not cause any
traffic jams which you can't do that
with a line at all and you need to
deliver four different cargo types and
that can make things really really
complicated so distribution office are
great that way as well
there are some things that you just
can't do much about for example the
refrigerator truck has a capacity of 6.5
tons and the store in here only has a
one ton capacity obviously you can take
mods to fix this and adjust this
but if you want to be super efficient
the distribution office for meat
distribution may not be your best option
because the me track will almost always
run with just a tiny amount of capacity
that's let's have that guy go
there you go 16 is all it's gonna get
and you can't really change that because
you don't have enough room here and you
can't get a smaller truck in the
beginning of the game so what you can do
and maybe this is a good application for
a line
use a line to deliver to different
shops in this case if you only have one
shop that you want to deliver to just a
direct line wait until full wait until
empty done you're only taking up one one
of the parking spots here and the
distribution office can still
access the other parking spot you can
also
add a couple extra lines if you want
that if you want to make it more
complicated that is fine i think for me
it would be worth it to go a
out and then double back
but that's completely up to you all you
have to really think about is each
storage wants about one ton of meat
um and the truck can hold about six tons
of meat per uh per trip so you can
probably at least have four
four or five stores maybe even six
stores that are close to each other on
the same route
and be fine and then you can always just
run that route it doesn't necessarily
mean it's super
effective but the way it is right now
this is not effective either in the
distribution office because the truck
cannot run at 100
just because there is no ability to do
so
i hope i explained things a little
better last time and i touched all the
points that were important to me um that
i missed earlier and thanks again for
pointing out that i was wrong because
that's really awesome that tells me you
guys care enough to tell me or you guys
don't care enough so you want to tell me
anyways that's fine either way i learned
something i hope you did and if you did
like and subscribe i would thanks for
watching bye
