BUDI WALUYO
Welcome back to this channel.
Budi here.. I am a PhD student at the University of Leicester in England, funded by the government scholarship.
On this Channel, I discuss everything about scholarship and PhD student tips
please SUBSCRIBE and hit the bell. That way, you won't miss anything
a motivation letter for scholarship or a motivation letter for university admission is different from a recommendation letter
I've discussed the recommendation letter along with an example in the other video
please watch the video, after this video is finished. The link is provided in the description below
The main difference between a motivation letter and a recommendation letter is twofold
i.e., the writer and the content
First, a recommendation letter is written by someone else. So, other people tell about us
even though we can provide a draft for them, but the writing is based on their point of view
Second, recommendation letter provides testimonials about us, how other people perceive us
how they assess our strengths and weaknesses
Meanwhile, a motivation letters is written by ourselves. So, we tell about ourselves
it explains the reasons, why do we apply for scholarships or enroll to a university. Let's discuss it further..
I have five tips for you, how to write a motivation letter for scholarship and how to write a motivation letter for university admission
I will discuss them in detail, based on my experience. I will tell you what should be included and what you should avoid
First, motivation letter must be "To The Point". Explain what you aim to apply for a scholarship or university
You don't need to tell about yourself in detail, because it has been covered in the CV or curriculum vitae
No need to introduce yourself, because motivation letter is not a CV
Your profile, should be on your CV
In your motivation letter.. directly explain, what your goals are .. applying for scholarship or university
and you should be able to mention a specific goal, instead of general goals
For example, if you say that "I apply for this scholarship, to be a useful person for my country". That's not specific, Bro..
You must be specific on your goal. For what purpose, you apply for a scholarship or take a study in a university
For example, "to support my career as an academic, or my career as a journalist, or my career as an artist", and so on
it must be specific. What are the goals, related to the scholarship or study you will apply for
Tips number 2, motivation letter for scholarship or motivation letter for university admission must explain the reason..
why you deserve to get a scholarship or why you are suitable to take particular study in a university
You should know that different scholarship provider or campus, has different criteria
they are looking for different candidates. So, you have to meet your profile with the scholarship or campus that you are applying for
but generally, scholarships or campuses are looking for people who can provide a contribution to the society
it's important to explain, what contribution can you offer to the wider community
that is the most wanted person by scholarships and top campuses
I have 3 more tips. Stay tuned until the end of this video. I'll give you a bonus: an example of my motivation letter
It's proven successful for winning scholarship and was accepted by university in the UK. It's free, for you.
I have made a Playlist of scholarship requirements, the link is in the description below
Now the third tips. Motivation letter for scholarship or motivation letter for university admission should mention your experience, especially working experience
Explain your working experience, which includes organizational experience
Mention your experience that is relevant to the scholarship or campus you are applying for
Well, if you have never worked, still a Fresh Graduate.. What experience you can provide?
You can mention experience of joining student communities during your study. Another relevant example is the experience of taking part in volunteering, social activities and so on.
You can also describe the experience of an internship, even if you are not paid
what are you doing during that activity.. it can also be written as your experience
Tips number 4, this is ultimately essential. Motivation letter, both for scholarships and for university admission, must contain "keywords"
in accordance with the scholarship you will applying for, or the study or course you will take on
This is especially if you are applying for a scholarship or university with high competition
scholarships or universities that have huge number of applicants..
they wil NOT read all the motivation letters one by one
What do they do? They search for "keywords" in your motivation letter
Motivation letter is similar to a job application letter. Why do you deserve to be the winner
They will look for the correct keywords. If they found those keywords in your motivation letter, they will read it
If your motivation letter doesn't contain the keyword they're looking for, it won't be read
Your application won't be considered
So, it's really essential to include the relevant keywords for particular scholarship, campus or subject of your study
I can't provide you relevant keywords for every scholarship in this video, because the video will be too long
Let say, these are keywords for this scholarship, for this campus or this study
Let's discuss in the comments below. I have pinned my comment, that shows you several relevant keywords
Please have a look in the comment below.
You can add, you can propose, or you can ask me
for particular scholarship or campus, what keywords they are looking for. This is really essential
Tips number 5, motivation letter for scholarship or motivation letter for university admission must explain your achievements
achievements which are relevant. Once again RELEVANT
You don't need to mention all your achievements
Look for one or two of your best achievements, or maybe not the best, but the important thing is relevant
The best scenario is of course the achievement that is relevant
but even if the achievement is not the best one, but relevant
it is still better to be included, compared to the best achievements but apparently irrelevant
because what the scholarship provider or campus is looking for is relevance
profile of an applicant.. does your profile deserve a scholarship or deserve to be accepted by the campus?
after all, if you write all the achievements, your motivation letter will be too long
motivation letter is a maximum of 1 page. Even though there are no criteria, but for me, one page is enough
if more than one page, they are not interested to read, too long and unclear
So, a motivation letter must be focused and concise
If you need an example of my motivation letter, please leave me your e-mail address in the comment below, I'll send it to you
