The video introduces the concept of print on demand t-shirt businesses and the speaker's experience in the field. It clarifies the distinction between active and passive print on demand models. Active print on demand involves creating a website, driving traffic, handling customer service, and paying for orders upfront. Passive print on demand, on the other hand, involves uploading designs to marketplaces that handle traffic, sales, and customer service, with the seller receiving a profit split. The speaker emphasizes that many new sellers are likely interested in the passive model and offers to show alternative platforms to Printful and Printify.

05:00

🌐 Exploring Passive Print on Demand Platforms

The speaker discusses various passive print on demand platforms, highlighting Amazon as the largest platform, where sellers can upload designs and Amazon handles the rest, including printing, shipping, and customer service. The profit per t-shirt is outlined, and the potential monthly earnings from a single design are calculated. Redbubble and TeePublic are also mentioned as notable platforms dedicated to print on demand, with differences in traffic and the specificity of their marketplaces. 💡Print on Demand

Print on demand (POD) is a business model where printed goods are only produced when a customer orders them, reducing the need for inventory and upfront costs. In the video, the speaker discusses two types of POD business models: active and passive, which are central to the video's theme of explaining why they don't use Printful, Printify, or Etsy for their t-shirt business.

💡Active Print on Demand

Active print on demand involves creating a website, driving traffic, and handling customer service, which is a more hands-on approach to the business. The video contrasts this with passive print on demand, emphasizing that Printful and Printify are suited for active POD, which is not the route the speaker has chosen.

💡Passive Print on Demand

Passive print on demand is a business model where the seller uploads designs to marketplaces that handle the traffic, sales, printing, shipping, and customer service. The video highlights this as the preferred method for many new sellers, including the speaker, who finds it less labor-intensive and more accessible.

💡Fulfillment Service

A fulfillment service is a company that manages the logistics of order processing, picking, packing, and shipping of goods on behalf of e-commerce sellers. In the context of the video, Printful and Printify are examples of fulfillment services for active POD, while Amazon Merch on Demand is an example for passive POD.

💡Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing involves promoting products or services through social media channels to increase brand awareness and drive sales. The video mentions it as a method for driving traffic to an active POD business, which is a part of building a full-fledged clothing company using POD.

💡Paid Advertising

Paid advertising refers to the use of paid channels to promote products or services, such as Google Ads or Facebook Ads. The speaker discusses it in the context of active POD, where the seller must pay for ads to attract customers to their website.

💡

💡Amazon Merch on Demand

Amazon Merch on Demand is a service provided by Amazon that allows sellers to upload designs and have Amazon handle the printing, shipping, and customer service for POD items. The video uses it as an example of a passive POD platform, emphasizing its large customer base and the ease of getting started.

💡Redbubble

Redbubble is an online marketplace for POD items where artists can upload their designs, and Redbubble takes care of production and shipping. The video presents Redbubble as one of the recommended passive POD platforms, highlighting its focus on POD products.

💡TeePublic

TeePublic is another online marketplace for POD products, similar to Redbubble, which was acquired by Redbubble. The video mentions TeePublic as an example of a smaller platform with a specific focus on POD, providing an alternative option for sellers.

💡Shopify

Shopify is an e-commerce platform that allows users to set up online stores to sell products. In the video, it is mentioned as a necessary component for those who choose the active POD route with Printful or Printify, where the seller must pay a monthly fee to maintain their store.

💡Customer Service

Customer service refers to the assistance and advice provided by a company to those people who buy or use its products. The video discusses the difference in customer service responsibilities between active and passive POD, where active POD sellers handle all customer service, while passive POD platforms manage it.

play00:00

Hey everyone!

play00:00

Welcome back to another video.

play00:02

In today's video, I'm going

play00:03

to be explaining why I don't use Printful, Printify,

play00:06

or Etsy for my print on demand t-shirt business.

play00:09

Now, for those of you who don't know,

play00:10

I've been a print on demand t-shirt seller

play00:12

for just about 10 years now,

play00:14

and what a lot of people don't realize is

play00:15

that I don't use Printful, Printify,

play00:17

or Etsy to run my business.

play00:19

In this video, I'm going to be explaining

play00:21

and showing you onscreen recording why I don't use these

play00:24

platforms and a lot of things

play00:25

that people don't share about these platforms

play00:27

that you really should know if you're just

play00:29

starting out in this business.

play00:30

So if you are just getting into print on demand,

play00:32

please watch this video first.

play00:33

I think it's going to save you a lot

play00:35

of headaches down the road.

play00:36

So when it comes to starting a print on-demand

play00:38

t-Shirt business, the core of

play00:40

that business is having a print on demand

play00:42

fulfillment service.

play00:43

Now, most tutorials out there that are going to teach you

play00:45

how to start the business are going to show you

play00:47

to use Printful or they're going to

play00:49

show you to use Printify.

play00:50

Now, although both of these are great print on demand

play00:53

fulfillment services,

play00:54

what most people don't realize is there are two very

play00:57

different ways to do print on demand.

play00:59

When it comes to print on demand,

play01:01

there is active print on demand and passive print on demand.

play01:04

This is something that very few people are sharing about the

play01:07

print on demand business, but both Printful

play01:09

and Printify are both in the active

play01:11

print on demand business model.

play01:13

Now for those of you who this is the first time you're

play01:15

hearing about active print on demand versus

play01:17

passive print on demand, active print on demand is

play01:19

where you create your own website,

play01:21

you bring your own traffic and your own buyers.

play01:23

This is typically with social media marketing

play01:26

or it's done with paid advertising,

play01:27

and then every order that you receive,

play01:29

you pay for that order upfront

play01:31

and then you receive your full amount of money

play01:33

with the profit afterwards.

play01:34

And lastly, you handle all of the customer service.

play01:37

This is more of building a full fledged clothing company,

play01:40

but using print on demand to fulfill those orders.

play01:43

Now when you look at the other way of doing print on demand,

play01:46

which is passive print on demand, this is

play01:48

where you are creating your t-shirt designs

play01:50

and uploading them to big print on demand

play01:52

marketplace websites.

play01:54

They are bringing all of the traffic and buyers for you.

play01:57

The customer who buys your product is paying

play01:59

for the whole order upfront

play02:00

and you are just getting a split of the profit afterwards,

play02:03

and the big print on demand websites, they're handling all

play02:05

of the customer service for you.

play02:07

This way of doing print on demand,

play02:09

the passive print on demand way, is the way

play02:10

that I think a lot of new print on demand sellers are

play02:12

actually looking for.

play02:14

So with that being clarified, the reason

play02:16

that I don't use Printify, I don't use Printful is

play02:19

because both of these are for active print on demand.

play02:22

Now with that being said,

play02:23

I don't want to just leave you hanging in this video.

play02:25

I actually want to give you a solution here.

play02:27

So if you don't want to go down this active print on demand

play02:30

route and you actually want to try

play02:31

the passive print on demand route,

play02:33

I'll quickly show you a couple websites

play02:34

that you can use that are passive print on demand.

play02:37

I'll even upload a design with you to show you

play02:39

how easy this really is.

play02:40

And then I will put a link in the description

play02:42

to another video here on YouTube

play02:44

that is a full passive print on demand tutorial taking you

play02:47

from idea that you want to start,

play02:49

all the way to getting your first sales.

play02:51

So with that being said, let's switch back over

play02:52

to the computer and let me show you some of this.

play02:54

So let's start out on Amazon.

play02:56

What a lot of people don't realize is

play02:57

that Amazon is actually the largest print on

play02:59

demand platform out there.

play03:01

If you search for a type of t-shirt,

play03:03

so this is gardening t-shirt.

play03:04

This is just a great niche right now for print on demand.

play03:06

And you scroll down here, all of these are going

play03:08

to be print on demand designs.

play03:10

So when you click on any of these, you'll see

play03:12

that it looks like just any other product on Amazon,

play03:14

but it has as little label right here

play03:16

that says "Amazon Merch on Demand".

play03:18

Now, whenever a listing has this little label right here,

play03:21

it means that the person selling this only uploaded this

play03:23

design and Amazon is doing everything else for them.

play03:26

So when someone finds this T-shirt

play03:28

and they pick what kind of item they want it printed on,

play03:30

they pick what color, then they select what size,

play03:32

they can add this to their cart,

play03:34

and they can purchase it just like any other

play03:36

product on Amazon.

play03:37

What's going to happen

play03:38

behind the scenes when this order is placed

play03:40

is Amazon is going to receive the order.

play03:42

They're going to go pick out whatever color

play03:44

and size shirt you ordered,

play03:45

and they're going to print this exact design on it,

play03:48

ship it out to the customer

play03:49

and handle all the customer service.

play03:50

The creator of this listing is then just going

play03:53

to get their split of the profit,

play03:54

which on a t-shirt like this is going to be roughly $5.

play03:57

Now, something that's really cool about Amazon is on some

play04:00

of these listings, it's going to tell you how many of

play04:02

that exact listing has sold in the last month.

play04:04

For this specific design,

play04:06

that is 50 plus bought in the past month.

play04:08

If you're saying an average of $5 profit,

play04:10

that's about $250 in profit per month from

play04:14

just a single design.

play04:15

Now, that's just on this listing,

play04:16

but on some other niches, when you're scrolling through here

play04:18

for print on demand shirts, you'll see 1,000

play04:20

plus in the past month.

play04:21

So a single design can make you thousands

play04:23

of dollars in profit every single month.

play04:25

Now, the reason that all of this works is because

play04:27

Amazon falls into the passive print on demand category,

play04:30

meaning that Amazon is bringing their own customers,

play04:32

just Amazon alone gets about 750 million people

play04:35

to their marketplace every month.

play04:37

Now, all of them are not looking to buy t-shirts,

play04:39

but I can tell you a substantial amount of them actually do.

play04:42

So just to give you an idea on this,

play04:44

if you are interested in selling on Amazon

play04:46

as a print on demand seller,

play04:47

just look up Amazon Merch on Demand.

play04:49

Once you find this page right here,

play04:51

this is actually their application page to become a seller,

play04:54

just hit the sign up button right here.

play04:56

Again, this is totally free to do.

play04:57

So Amazon is just the first example of one

play05:00

of these passive print on demand websites.

play05:01

There's actually several more.

play05:03

I've been selling on a lot of them over the years,

play05:06

and there's a couple that really stand out over the rest.

play05:08

Just to show you what those are,

play05:10

the second one that I would really

play05:11

recommend to you is called Redbubble.

play05:13

And Redbubble is a little bit different than Amazon in

play05:15

that Redbubble is specific to print on demand.

play05:18

So they're not going to sell just every item

play05:20

that Amazon sells, rather they're just going

play05:21

to sell print on demand items.

play05:23

So if you were to type in gardening t-shirt,

play05:26

these are just all going to be results

play05:27

specifically done with print on demand.

play05:29

So when you click on one of these, you're going

play05:31

to see what that looks like.

play05:32

And again, you can pick all of these settings here,

play05:33

you can add it to your cart and you can purchase it.

play05:35

The same style here with passive print on demand.

play05:37

None of these are actually printed yet.

play05:39

So when Redbubble receives the order, the customer's paying

play05:42

for the full order, Redbubble is going to print it,

play05:44

ship it out, handle the customer service,

play05:46

and we just get a split of the profit.

play05:47

But I do want to show you just one more

play05:49

of these passive print on demand websites,

play05:50

just to show you that there are a lot out here to use.

play05:53

This one is called TeePublic.

play05:54

TeePublic was actually purchased by Redbubble a

play05:56

couple years ago.

play05:57

So it is the same layout as Redbubble.

play05:59

Now, TeePublic is a smaller website compared to Redbubble.

play06:02

To put it into perspective here,

play06:04

TeePublic gets about a million people

play06:06

to their website every month.

play06:07

Redbubble gets about 10 million people

play06:09

to their website every month.

play06:10

But remember, both of these are print on demand specific.

play06:13

So although Amazon gets a ton of traffic, they're coming in

play06:16

to buy all different things on Amazon.

play06:18

When people come to Redbubble or TeePublic,

play06:20

they are coming in specifically

play06:21

to buy something print on demand.

play06:23

So this is where things start to get really cool

play06:25

with passive print on demand.

play06:26

So if we go back over here and we go to Printify

play06:29

or we go to Printful, if you want to use one of these, yes,

play06:32

you're going to be using the active print on demand route.

play06:34

But what most people don't realize is that you actually have

play06:37

to set up a Shopify store as well.

play06:39

So although Printify and Printful,

play06:41

they are free to use, you do have to pay for Shopify.

play06:44

Now, the first month on Shopify is a dollar,

play06:46

but after that, you're going to be paying $39 per month at a

play06:49

minimum just to have your print on demand store live.

play06:52

Now, beyond having to pay for it, you have

play06:54

to build your store, you have to customize it,

play06:56

you have to make it look good so

play06:58

that people trust your store enough to make a purchase.

play07:00

On the other hand, here with passive print on demand,

play07:03

all you have to do is upload your design

play07:05

and create the listing,

play07:06

because everything else is actually on the big

play07:08

print on demand website.

play07:09

So you don't have to build the website yourself,

play07:11

you are just adding your designs to their marketplace.

play07:13

So for those of you who are considering passive

play07:16

print on demand, you can absolutely get started today.

play07:18

Again, I would recommend that

play07:19

tutorial down in the description.

play07:20

That's just going to be the best thing I have

play07:22

to offer you from start to finish.

play07:24

But just in this video real quick to show you

play07:26

how easy it is to upload a design

play07:28

and literally just get started from scratch,

play07:30

when you come to one of these websites,

play07:31

just click "create an account",

play07:32

fill out your first name, last name,

play07:34

put in your email address and a password,

play07:36

and click "create my account".

play07:37

On TeePublic specifically,

play07:38

it'll have you verify your email address,

play07:40

but once you've done that, then you can log into your

play07:42

account and you can start uploading designs right away.

play07:44

So once you've created your account,

play07:46

the button here will change from

play07:47

"create an account" to "upload art".

play07:49

Just click on this.

play07:50

Depending on how many files you have ready to upload,

play07:52

you can do just single file upload

play07:54

and upload just one at a time, or multi-file upload

play07:56

and upload a whole handful of them at a time.

play07:58

I'll just show you how to do it with one.

play07:59

Just click this PNG icon right here

play08:01

and select your artwork off your computer.

play08:03

Just give this a second to load here

play08:05

and it'll upload your file.

play08:06

It'll then show you what your design file looks like.

play08:08

You can scroll down here, you can give it a title,

play08:11

and for your title, you can just name it

play08:12

what is on your design.

play08:13

So this design says,

play08:14

"Gardening because therapy is expensive".

play08:18

I'm just going to copy this,

play08:20

and then you can put it down here

play08:21

as your description as well.

play08:22

Nice and easy.

play08:23

Over on your main tags here,

play08:25

we'll just type in gardening.

play08:27

And then in your supporting tags, just click in here.

play08:29

TeePublic will even recommend these for you.

play08:31

So this is also about garden,

play08:33

it's also about nature, flowers, floral, gardener,

play08:39

plants, and anything else that is relevant to this design,

play08:42

you can add into your supporting tags here.

play08:45

Scroll down a little bit here.

play08:46

Does this design contain mature content?

play08:48

Just hit "no" here.

play08:49

Yes, you are allowed to create designs for print on demand

play08:51

that have mature content in them.

play08:53

No, I don't recommend doing it.

play08:54

It could just potentially lead to issues down the road.

play08:57

So I would just click "no" here, keep scrolling down.

play08:59

It's going to give you options that actually look similar

play09:01

to Printful or Printify where you can say, what kind

play09:04

of items do you want this to be offered on?

play09:06

What color do you want those items

play09:07

to be shown in by default?

play09:09

And you can just select what you want here.

play09:13

And then if you're good with all of these items,

play09:15

it costs you nothing extra

play09:16

to offer them on all these different items.

play09:18

You can then keep scrolling down,

play09:20

and you can actually pick what colors are offered

play09:22

for these products as well.

play09:23

So just scroll through here, hover over all these,

play09:25

make sure that you can actually read your

play09:27

design on all of these.

play09:28

If anything looks too close to read, like a green on green,

play09:31

just uncheck that,

play09:32

and then keep scrolling through, make sure everything looks

play09:34

good, and then scroll down a little bit further.

play09:36

You can even offer your design on other items

play09:38

beyond apparel with just one click here.

play09:40

So stickers, phone cases, mugs, et cetera, all the way

play09:43

through, you can turn those on.

play09:44

It doesn't cost you anything extra

play09:45

to offer your design on these other products.

play09:48

I actually personally don't turn these on.

play09:50

I leave it just to apparel.

play09:51

If you watch that full tutorial, you'll get an explanation

play09:54

of why I've learned to do this over the years.

play09:55

So that's why mine are all turned off

play09:57

and just apparel is turned on.

play09:59

Just click "I have read and agree to the terms

play10:00

and conditions", and then click "publish".

play10:03

And just like that in a matter of minutes here,

play10:06

you have a listing live on a print on demand website

play10:08

that is getting organic traffic.

play10:09

So by doing print on demand

play10:11

with this passive print on demand route, all you have

play10:13

to do is come up with good ideas

play10:15

and upload them to these big print on demand marketplaces.

play10:17

This, in my experience, is what a lot of people

play10:19

who are getting into print on demand are

play10:21

actually looking for.

play10:22

They don't want to go down the active print on demand route

play10:24

where they then have to start advertising campaigns

play10:27

to bring people into their store.

play10:28

For those of you who are interested in learning more about

play10:31

passive print on demand and how do everything step by step,

play10:33

that full free tutorial is linked down in the description.

play10:36

So guys, I hope this video has been helpful

play10:38

and saves you a lot of headaches.

play10:39

If you enjoyed it, please just give it a thumbs up,

play10:42

and I'll be seeing you guys all in the next video.
