on to the next question describe a time
when you've had to manage conflicting
priorities now this question is being
asked because they want to explore your
time management decision making and
ability to handle pressure in high
stakes environments so my tip here is to
make sure you provide a clear example
demonstrating how you balance priorities
and achieved positive outcomes through
organization and communication now
really really important tip here that's
going to make not just this question but
all behavioral questions questions that
start with describe a time when or
explain to me a situation when you face
this anytime you're asked to draw on PR
experience you need this tip and that
tip is to use this structure a great
structure to use is the star method s a
r r now s starts for situation you start
off by describing what the situation was
you found yourself in T is for task you
then move on to what the task was that
needed to be carried out a is for Action
what action did you take to achieve the
task the first R is for result what was
the end result following your actions
make sure it's always a positive end
result that's really important and the
final R is reflection what did you learn
from this experience so let me now give
you a blind topsc scoring answer using
that star structure to the question
describe a time when you've had to
manage conflicting priorities in my
previous role as a data analyst I
encountered a challenging situation
where two high priority projects with
tight deadlines were assigned to me
simultaneously one was a financial
report for Senior Management while the
other was a detailed analysis requested
by a key client I needed to complete
both projects on time but it was clear
that juggling both would require careful
planning and stakeholder management to
ensure neither was compromised I began
by assessing the urgency and impact of
both tasks identifying that the
financial report had a fixed dead
headline and a higher visibility I
communicated with both stakeholders to
explain the situation and adjusted their
expectations then I broke down each
project into smaller tasks and created a
timeline that allowed me to prioritize
the financial report first while
allocating Focus time for the client
analysis afterward I successfully
completed both projects on time
receiving positive feedback from both
Senior Management and the client for the
quantity and timeless
of my work this experience reinforced
the importance of clear communication
effective prioritization and flexible
planning in managing conflicting
priorities okay let's take a look at
another Behavior interview question this
one is a bit trickier describe a time
when you disagreed with a coworker how
did you handle the situation and what
was the outcome wow this is a really
tough question and it's being asked
because they want to test your conflict
resolution skills and ability to work
collaboratively in a team setting make
sure you focus on constructive
communication showing how you balance
listening and presenting your Viewpoint
leading to a successful collaborative
solution so here is a brilliant tops
scoring answer to help you using that
star structure describe a time when you
disagreed with a coworker how did you
handle the situation and what was the
outcome in a previous role I encountered
a disagreement with with a colleague
over the mythology for analyzing a data
set my colleague favored a simplified
approach while I believed that a more
complex model would provide greater
accuracy and better insights it was
important to resolve the disagreement
constructively and find a solution that
would benefit the project while
maintaining a positive working
relationship with my colleague I
initiated a meeting with my colleague
where I respectfully presented my
perspective using data-backed evidence
to support the more complex approach I
also actively listen to their rationale
for preferring a simplified method after
our discussion we agreed to test both
approaches on a small sample of the data
set to evaluate which method would
deliver the best results the analysis
showed that the more complex model
yielded significantly better insights
however we also Incorporated elements of
the simplified approach to streamline
the process leading to an improved final
out put our collaboration strengthened
as a result this experience highlighted
the importance of open communication
active listening and collaboration it
reinforced how combining diverse
approaches can lead to better Solutions
and stronger Team Dynamics now in
preparation for your actuary interview I
also recommend you prepare answers to
the following questions why do you want
to be an actuary what experience do you
have working with data and statistical
analysis how do you approach solving
complex problems why is attention to
detail important in Actuarial work how
do you prioritize your workload when you
have multiple deadlines what steps do
you take to ensure accuracy in your work
describe a time when you had to explain
complex information to a non-technical
audience how do you handle tight
deadlines while maintaining quality
where do you see yourself in 5 years
