nope today we have another sad not
really sad not as fun memory everybody
talked about not really a memory of mine
it's not of yours major super terrible
traumatizing surgery that I had when I
was seven years old well you gave it
away already my first trivia was going
to be hot it was you're seven I'm so
fancy you know that well I'm gonna tell
everyone why I know like I'm so proud of
knowing that I wish you hadn't taken it
from me because when we went to publish
that time that I threw up at the coffee
shop in the morning okay well one time
three years ago was free and this was
almost four years ago we went to
peddlers village which is a really cute
place in Pennsylvania and at night
we've hit hotel and we had a bottle of
sangria like it was red wines I mean
like synchronously or non-standard very
very sweet yeah and we were playing a
drinking game that was like trivia of
how well we know each other and one
question you asked me was when did I get
my spinal fusion yeah and I I remember
saying you were either it's in his book
so I should have known this cuz I read
his book obviously in my first book in
your first book and I said you were
either 7 or 13 and I couldn't figure it
out and so I finally guessed 13 and I
was like because I know they wait till
you're as like grown as you can be to do
what you're supposed to wait to be used
by so here at least 13 see you later oh
yeah but it turns out that 7 was the
correct answer and I have never
forgotten you have a member erics
meeting in your head because the surgery
was a 13-hour shared your guys I'm sure
that's why so you have like all of the
facts sure I was really rated it's very
impressive it's exactly why I thought
Brandon alleged bottle of wine deep so
yeah pulling that out while you're ahead
but anyway you stole my thunder I knew
you were 7 I was gonna say that you were
7 thanks a lot so yeah I had a spinal
fusion surgery when I was 7 years old
which is a very common
from people and that's okay because as
you grow because I don't have a lot of
muscle my muscles are not able to hold
my spine in a normal straight upright
position there's a great picture of you
on that pool float that shows just how
curved your spine moves right before the
surgery yeah so we can put that in if we
should find that I have it now you
caught me on the spot but yeah basically
has like four or five and six year old
my spine began to like been let's polios
just felt like severe on so the front
layer we might given up there's a fight
man right before I was seven and they
were like it's fine is about to crush
his right lung and you need to have the
surgery now or a little is done
that raised it probably not like that at
all I didn't doubt that my sneeze don't
oh I understand haven't really remember
that long but I do remember the kind of
the severity of it and how my parents
really oh my golly because it's been
really big surgery like 13 hours is no
time instead yeah and you had estimate
your lungs were weaker like that's a
long surgery for anyone let alone yeah
someone with SMA okay I guess I know
less details about this that I
anticipated I thought maybe I would have
more in my brain I read your chapter
about it yeah anything from your book
where did you get it done wait wait wait
let me yes um that state with addy
Delaware
yeah that's David that's where your
Children's Hospital why so I remember
that there's nothing you see no there's
not
the brass dakotas die oh man
da montanha are you done with your joke
now yes I think it's just Delaware
I really do Oh below a guy yeah
hospitals are really like specialized
hospital for children with all kinds of
diseases on conditions of anger on stage
my family and I stay at the Ronald
McDonald House nailed it what was it
like you remember oh that's great it was
really fantastic they had lots of like
food and boy very big names just
watching your facial expressions to see
if I'm like hot or cold they had lots of
they had food for you guys yeah James
you liked it I did yeah there was like
an ice age in the hospital anyway I
didn't I wasn't really I'm just nervous
about my surgery but I was a seven year
old I don't know I really process how
intense it was doing the deep and how
dangerous it was I was like the surgery
got involved what there are people who
don't make it through and they told my
parents left and I didn't know so I was
like wrong with the house yeah I knew
this day and what do you add I remember
going into surgery they asked me what I
wanted to watch on TV and I just like
that cuz they please clarify you were
not awake for this right no no way while
they are putting you under at least
you're in this Children's Hospital yeah
they didn't play like nice day long all
that you do for you to like comfort you
um I said enough alidium and they said
all they have is social history and I
was like why did you guys I drifted off
into the abyss while watching Big Bird I
remember that how's it taste
yeah actually yeah I was annoying
you probably only got to watch it for
like 10 seconds hide out your poor
parents waiting for this like I wait for
your skin Roz injections which are like
obviously way lower risk and like not
very long let's trust 13 hours yeah I
can imagine
and you told me about when the surgeon
came out like like 20 minutes into the
procedure which like obviously you don't
expect to see the surgeon 20 minutes n
like yeah and they came out Shane's
parents and said that they had pulled
one of his loose teeth and they were
giving the tooth I mean I really had to
like intubate you and they're like we
have it just - yeah that sounded it when
they saw the person like coming out to
update them they were like alright
mother I did survive the surgery
okay do you remember like waking up
pretty day the first few days with mercy
they had me all kinds of painkillers and
sedatives and all kinds of stuff cuz I
had oh I should tell you about what the
surgery ends well yeah it's when they
put like a steel rod against your spine
like with your spine to keep your spine
straight
yeah from the very top in life yeah neck
and you point all the way down down down
down down but okay and that's why like
when I lift Shane up his spine stays
straight he doesn't like Curtis - yeah
basically hiring them yeah anyway it
really involved surgery as I said yeah
the few days actually I was like out
I remember amazing yep in writable
amounts of pain oh gosh you from where
like medicine - they did not hurt did
you know what that meant when you were
like six I maybe they really like do you
not know yeah but does it hurt
I was like yeah it was a rough time in
my neck there's a word for that but a
direct line here southern port maybe
hunter line I remember then removing
that and the feeling of with the needle
and the tube coming out of my neck that
was not fun oh god um maybe the most
distinct memory of the first few days
was they had to get me out of bed and
onto the toilet for whatever reason that
was like a test yeah I haven't given to
sit on the toilet and do to the bathroom
to show that like my bowels later in
time working yeah and then the nurses
lifted me I was Cherie son of God okay
it was oh you know I'm like oh no never
again it was comfortable okay
shame is tired because he also had spin
Raza so I'm gonna support his neck and
let him rest already talking like that
because I were to figure out what to say
that this would make sense I'm
supporting your neck right yeah so you
can just relax
yeah I'm trying nice it helps his mouth
he says it's my move anyway please don't
do that anyway
Shane was in the hospital for several
weeks for covering after and a couple
days ago his mom sent us a picture that
she found of during that time as we
denied the use of this yeah um when
Shane had to set up you weren't even you
know were you in your chair mm-hmm you
were oh I can't remember I had to hurt
me up to be able to tolerate lies
multiple hours in my chair yeah I still
Annapolis like it's appreciating the
painful okay you shouldn't really be
talking I know what I know
so anyway in this picture you can see
Shane's facial expression he's very
upset because it was painful to be
sitting up but you did it and then try
and guess what I was doing it wouldn't
fit yeah oh is it in the photo cuz I
don't remember all right
interruption while we were editing we
realized that Shane is not holding a
pencil in this photo he is eating food
he misremembered it's apparently a
different photo he claims that there was
another photo where he's do it he's
drawing or Maya anyway so this it's not
gonna make sense but Shane was wrong
it's all his fault
Oh were you calling no are you writing a
letter no I don't know what were you
doing I I wish I could get this I almost
said it
hmm what were you doing I was drawing
pokemons that was my favorite activity
got them with a pencil I didn't a
paragraph well then you ruined it
because I was guessing things that
you're do with a pencil not even a color
Jonathan pencil I didn't know I hate
Holly I do
okay Jenny and my career's an artist
when did they finally let you go home
just like weeks later yeah I remember it
was like right before Christmas did I
use a series ever remember if I spent
Christmas there yeah I don't think I did
I can't remember um when I left the
hospital to go home I didn't fit into my
van anymore because in the process of
straightening out my spine I drew six
inches oh I was just kind of ridiculous
yeah I drove up in my van and my head
didn't fit I was like oh no I better
video so if you had to like kick my
chair that differently and I had to ride
home
it wouldn't do anything
the door was way different than the ones
that they make today oh yes a lot
they're saying um but yeah I um I was I
realized a year
I hear happier baby I have home school
do you really thought you know did she
remember to the house that's nice
did you like that do you remember I was
I wasn't home by all I wanted to do is
lay down I had to say yeah I also
wouldn't kill the right way so that is
the story I my spinal fusion
what an odd story I decided to tell I
don't know hon didn't my mom took that
photo
yeah I never imagined me had this big
moment in my life that maybe all of you
don't know about that was a formative
moment in my life
it taught me that I didn't he might have
to do any for duty all right there was
quick you have a maid named an
impersonal way things that you any
moment you could be part of the group
alright everyone that's necessary don't
shout
yo show love yes his pants why don't we
ever do voting on you're like very them
something about me Oh glasses or no
glasses
nobody did this already yeah we didn't
glasses no glasses everyone vote thanks
or on top of the head
