review on colorfly CDA M1 which was

published on headfi as you can see here

and also published on dongle Madness all

website it was an impressive dongle very

well received by many loved by many and

still used by many people until today

two years down the road finally we have

a successor to that M1 which is this

colorfly CDA m1p which I have in my hand

right now so let's just have a look at

the hardware itself first have a look

here okay price at

$68 this thing is already super

impressive out of the box why because

when I hold it in my hand look at it for

the first time it does not you know

suggest that this thing is priced at 68

more like

$200 the construction of this m1p is

amazing entirely made of metal right

this whole chesses here here like a tank

it is elegant as it is simple at the

same time I am so very confident that

this m1p is built to last okay and at

the front here as you can see comes with

the normal standard nowaday which is 4.4

mm balance and this 3.5 mm single ended

and at the back here you're going to get

this female USB type-c which comes with

this uh ribbon type cable attach it like

this and ready to go at the side here

you're going to find two buttons which

serve as independent volume adjustment

but also as function button which I will

explain later as you can see here this

m1p is different from M1 first the M1

was built on ESS subr custom ESS sub and

this one is built on akm particularly

ak4493 seq a deck which I am so very

familiar with in single deck

configuration but the good part about

about it is that it comes with dual

independent amp amplifier stage so which

means that from the analog stage to the

output itself you're going to get dual

amplification okay the resolution is

rated at

768 very high at 32bit and capable of

playing DSD 512 as for the power itself

from the 4.4 mm balance you're going to

get 240 m per Channel and a lot less

coming from this 3.5 mm single-ended

which is rated at 125 M as for the

voltage itself pretty much again

standard for many dongles nowadays rated

at 4 vrms and the lowest is at 2 vrms

from the 3.5 mm single Ender signal to

noise ratio very impressive as I always

mention anything above 100 DB of SNR is

already very silent and true enough when

I attach this super sensitive EA 1000 to

this M1 P I am not hearing any kind of

flow noises so no issues there and again

going back to this button here one of

the function for this button is that if

you press it together like this while in

operation it will switch to high and low

gain and of course I already mentioned

that this serve as independent volume

adjustment with 100 steps so what it

means is that it operate independently

will not have any kind of influence on

the volume from the host okay you can

also switch from usc1 to usc2 by just

simply manipulating this button but it's

kind of a bit finicky if you read the

manual and it also offer six different

type of tuning filter a bit more on the

sound filter itself I must admit that

after testing it a few of them I am not

hearing that much of a difference

between different type of filter and it

is only prominent if I attach something

which is highly resolving to this m1p

because the changes that it Implement is

pretty much more on the way it handled

the pace of the sound and also the Decay

stage of

it before I proceed any further I'd like

to declare the sort of equipment which I

have used to test this colorfly CDA

m1p I have been using it with this tanim

zero here my favorite single DD and of

course with this micro DD of eotic er2xr

and I spent quite a lot of time using

this hiis MP45 magnetic

and also this another magnetic planner

which is CGA

Nightingale and finally last but not

least my all-time favorite this year

which is final audio

a5000 and

ultimately this sh kse 1500 my reference

this is the device which I use to

determine the fullest potential of a

dongle and of course my headphone here

which is forat T4 RP MK3 very difficult

to drive magnetic planner

headphone in order to make things a bit

more concise I am sharing with you some

of the notes which I have taken for this

colorfly CDA m1p as you can see on

screen right now I will walk you through

it but let me just declare this openly

up front and bluntly now I absolutely

love the sort of sound that I'm hearing

from this m1p okay and why because this

is the sort of sound which

I expect coming from a very well-tuned

akm deck now let's just have a look at

the dynamic presentation itself as noted

m1p is mature and Polished with the way

it present the sound itself the dynamic

handling and everything and when it

comes to Dynamic extension I mentioned

that it is fairly good and I will

explain a bit more of that during the

comparison stage as with the sound

timber this is the most important part

at least to me it is natural it is

analog sounding and velvety smooth the

kind of smoothness which many akm fan

including me have grown to love classic

akm sound okay and mid-range upper

frequency lower frequency I noted they

all neutral the reason is that very

simple when I attach it to something

which is highly transparent like this

eotic er2xr or even this hiis

mp145 I I am not hearing any kind of

attempt to color or boost the sound

frequency be it mid-range be it upper

frequency treble or lower frequency it

sound as it is as how it was intended to

be okay when it comes to technicalities

first we look at staging okay I must

admit it does not sound as wide as some

of the other dongle which I have in my

possession but at least it sounded open

and spacious and when it comes to

resolution is it is fairly detailed and

anal analytical and I will cover a bit

more on that in comparison as well and

when it comes to usage the power drain

of this m1p is pretty much impressive

rated at 10 hours especially when

attached to this phone of mine which is

zomi M90 with 4,000 M of battery running

he music app in USB exclusive mode

driving tangin zero it took 10 hours for

it to drain the battery of this phone

okay impressive you can be rest short

this is among one of the most powerful

dongle available in the market right now

just like many other for vrms rated

dongle it was able to drive without any

issue at all my for t40 RP MK3 here and

the volume needed was just at around 34

out of 100 pretty much similar to other

powerful donger which I have and the

sound itself all right it offers quite a

lot of Headroom all right authority to

the way it present the sound itself so

definitely no issue at all with driving

power Synergy factor I have shown you

earlier the type of IM and headphone

which I have used definitely no issue at

all for this m1p to synergize with any

of them because this thing being neutral

it was able to adapt to any listening

partner now let's talk about some of the

cons first I like to mention that this

thing is heavy okay so if you're looking

for a highly portable solution for

Mobility perhaps this is not so suitable

okay entirely met of metal so very heavy

and then it does runs a bit hot after a

while especially if you use it almost

like you know half a day like me and the

buttons here other than being volume

adjustment it also serve so many other

function and it's kind of a bit clunky

if you want to change some of the

setting this is how it look like

best and true enough looking at the

total score there m1p has 89 out of 100

super impressive five star rated dongle

no doubt about it okay a clear

improvement over M1 if you compare that

with five point of improvement from M1

overall and if you look at it carefully

rating from number one to four in the

category section which pertains to sound

it's kind of a bit peculiar because it

sound perfect then when it comes to tone

and Timber balance and with the sound

the richness of the sound perfect then

as well

which is pretty much identical only to

dport HD and also HB fc6 simply put this

m1p sounded as rich and as dense and

tonally perfect as compared to fc6 and

dport HD okay but it suffer a bit right

on Dynamic and technicalities why

because remember I mentioned earlier the

dynamic extension would appear less

extended as compare with the rest of the

top dogs okay meaning that I am hearing

kind of a bit subdued with the micro

detail on the highest level of the upper

frequency and also pretty much the same

on the lower frequency because the

tuning aspect of this m1p is geared

towards being musical rather than

analytical but it does not mean that it

is not analytical it is already nine out

of 10

okay last but not least Timber signature

or simply put sound signature I already

mentioned earlier that this m1p is

organic sounding analog sounding the

sort of sound that you can expect from a

very well tuned akm device and true

enough have a look there it is pretty

much aligned similarly to dpot HD and

also Lu power S2 all three of them

happen to be akm

deck and with the rest of the

competition about the only thing that is

more analog sounding than this m1p is

just Hib fc6 which is still my number

one

favorite ultimately I'll just simply say

that this colorfly CDA m1p is one of the

very best that you can expect from

dongle Market this year in particular

especially if you are the type of person

who love classic natural tuning from akm

it is natural it is organic it is

powerful very very versatile and most

importantly it is so very

affordable
