was there a recent Eucharistic miracle
in the United States hey guys I'm Father
David Michael and not too long ago a
parish in New Jersey is saying that they
had kind of a multiplication of hosts at
one of their masses so let's take a look
30 the arch dasis of Hartford is looking
into the possibility of an extremely
rare Miracle at a Connecticut Church a
lot of people talking so this is
actually a a secular news source which
is kind of cool obviously at every sing
s Le Catholic mass something
extraordinary happens which is that the
Bread and Wine actually change into the
body and blood of Jesus Christ but in
some cases God does something else
miraculous too he actually goes against
the laws of nature in some way which is
what we mean by a Eucharistic Miracle so
let's see how that plays out in this
story about this Channel 3 Eyewitness
News reporter Mike cerulo is live in
Thomason outside of St Thomas Church
Mike what can you tell us about
this well this is potentially something
pretty incredible both parishioners and
others here in Thomason are taking
notice and they're talking about this
Pastor Joseph crowle says uh gosh
there's like a motorcycle in the
background that's like really loud um in
some cases especially when we talking
about the Eucharist sometimes the evil
one the enemy kind of uses especially
noise to kind of distract so I think
that's possible that's what's happening
here I don't know Miracle may have
happened right here at this church
earlier this month as as one of the
church's Eur christic ministers was
passing out host or bread during the
communion father Crowley says there so
he says bread he calls it bread of
course we believe it's the body of Jesus
Christ all of a sudden more in the sorum
which is what they use to hold the bread
he says it's a sign that God duplicated
himself so much so that it seemed like
there was more host in the sorum after
the minister finished passing out that
host than before so wow that's pretty
interesting um at every single Mass
obviously we divide the host into
different they're essentially bowls but
we call them saboria um because they're
sacred vessels and we give those to the
ministers to then bring to the people
because it would take a very long time
in most of our churches for just the
priest to do it on his own um so it
sounds like they were a lot of host when
the minister left the sanctuary to bring
it to the people when they came back
they had even more hosts in the uh in
the
sorum throughout history there have been
only about 100 recorded Miracles like
this and news is spreading fast Shane
lives in Stratford she heard about this
so I made a really good point there this
is something that does not happen all
the time there were only
139 approved Eucharistic miracles in
2,000 years of church history so it's
very rare and traveled here today with
her four
kids uh so we watched the video last
night and we thought what better way to
spend a Friday during L then to make a
little mini pilgrimage here and light
some candles for some people we know who
really need prayers and miracles
well the arch dasis of Hartford is
looking into this and they say that's
expected to take about a week we'll have
any updates as we learn more in that
time about a week from now we'll let you
know both on air and on the WFSB
app yeah so um Eucharistic Miracles take
different forms this sounds like it was
a miracle if it was a miracle I don't
know we'll let the church decide that
but a miracle of multiplication uh this
actually happened to St uh don bosow one
point he was giving out host and he was
running out and all a sudden like the
the sorum was just full again of hosts
and uh some of the boys because he used
to work with orphans some of the boys
afterwards um they were like you know
just Don Bosco Don Bosco is a miracle at
mass and he says if God can change Bread
and Wine Into His very body and blood a
simple Miracle of multiplication isn't
really that impressive of course I think
it still is impressive um but just
making the point that the Eucharist is
such a gift in itself um so this kind of
Miracle wouldn't be unheard of in church
history but it is a little bit unique uh
when we think of Eucharistic Miracles we
often think of the Bread and Wine um in
terms of how they look actually changing
as well by transubstantiation of course
we mean the substance what they are
actually changes but their their
accidents um their the different
attributes they might have physically um
don't change but of course a miracle of
multiplication uh is kind of reflected
of the way in which God wants to give
himself in abundance and you think of
Jesus feeding the 5,000 it says they had
many baskets left over right um so the
Lord wants to give an abundance
overflowing um perhaps one of the most
famous Eucharistic Miracles and kind of
a classic example is the miracle of um
lanciano in the 8th Century there was a
priest who was a actually they say
during the consecration he was doubting
kind of doubting the real presence of
Jesus in the mass and at that point the
the bread and the
wine um didn't just change the Bible of
Jesus Christ but it actually started to
look like blood as well and look like
human flesh too so not just
transubstantiation but actually
transformation as well and uh the blood
actually formed into globules in the
shape of of a heart which is pretty wild
um and then in the 17 sorry 1970
they actually did some testing on this
and the doctors concluded that the flesh
was human heart tissue and the blood was
also human blood um both from the same
AB blood type which is really very very
interesting you often find that in the
Eucharistic Miracles it's a consistent
blood type like it all came from from
one man so you can actually go visit
that that Eucharistic miracle in lanci
there's little staircase and you get
kind of close to it and it's there
preserved um in a silver monstrance and
a Silver Chalice so I think it's good to
say why does God do this why does God
give us Eucharistic Miracles I think
it's to encourage us in our faith right
like the Lord wants to offer us little
moments where he pulls back the veil and
we're able to see how immense the
reality is of of the Eucharist like I
said this isn't happening all the time
it's only been 139 times in 2,000 years
um and then the church part of the
reason for that is the church takes this
process of confirming a Eucharistic
Miracle very very seriously so one thing
they're really big on is the chain of
command so they want to make sure that
when um the UK the proposed Eucharistic
Miracle happens um from that moment
until the closing of the investigation
they know exactly who has the uh has the
elements right if somebody took it home
to their house um or somebody took it to
work with them and nobody else was with
it obviously that's going to make things
pretty suspicious that it might have
been tampered with in some way and then
they actually have a whole team of
scientists and doctors um and experts in
different fields um to actually go
through it and they have to unanimously
conclude that what happened does not
have a natural explanation uh the church
watch to just be absolutely sure that
we're not falling for any kind of hoax
or something like that so final thought
for you clearly it times the Lord wants
to do these Eucharistic Miracles but
it's worth asking why doesn't the lord
always do Eucharistic Miracles why isn't
that when you go to mass it doesn't just
change in the Bible of Jesus Christ but
what it looks and tastes like change too
and the answer for that if you just
think about it is that if it actually
tasted and looked like human flesh and
human blood it would be almost
impossible for us to consume that would
just be too difficult in our Humanity um
for us to do that so the Lord truly
desires to give himself but he does it
in a way that is so much easier for us
to receive what's easier to to eat than
what looks and tastes like a piece of
bread easier to drink than what looks
and tastes like wine so Eucharistic
Miracles are a great gift for the church
but the even greater gift is just being
able to receive Jesus whenever we go to
mass anyways hope you found this helpful
