Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host  Paul and this video we're breaking down The Boys.

The brand new episode has just release and we're  almost at the season 4 finale. Throughout this  

video we're gonna break it all down and talk  about the easter eggs and callbacks to the  

comics. I also wanna give a big theory time  and go over where I think things are gonna  

go. With that out the way, thank you for  clicking this, now let's get into the boys.

Now we start off with the Avenue V  Christmas special. First introduced  

during Gen V this puppet show a  parody of Sesame Street and Avenue Q.

Originally hosted by Jason Ritter, Ryans now  here for the Christmas special. The show being  

set during Christmas has been shown to us before  as we had Vought Ice with a Christmas themed song.

This specials getting filmed for V Kids and  it indoctrinates the youth from a young age.

This entire show is basically about training  kids to snitch on certain people in society.  

This segment is for those suspected  as being part of Antifa. Its sort of  

playing on the red scare with it being an  updated version of McCarthyism. Antifa is  

obviously a big talking point in real life  too with it being an easy way to lump people  

intogether under one mindstate to drive  fear. Not to both sides it...well I will  

but you'll see this a lot in politics where  the other are given a blanket name even if  

the individuals within them don't necessarily  align with that. Just easier to label them.

Showing us a model version of the seven tower we  then fade into a snow globe. Pulling out we see  

several puppet versions of the characters.  Homelander seems to be getting close to  

Firecracker and ey, I'd be udderly disappointed if  we missed out on a milk pun going past your eyes.

dear me man...channels just got so bad.

There's also black noir and we pull back  to the A-train puppet sat with Ryan. The  

cabin here is also reminiscent of the one  from Season 2 so you can see why Ryan may  

start to get memories of his Mother  since its around that that she died.

However one character who isn't there is  Sage showing how shes not really accepted  

into the team. She gets kicked out towards  the end and we know that Teenage Kix threw  

her out as well. So I think due to her  intelligence shes always been an outsider  

and she does the lobotomy to bring her down  to a level with the rest of the population.

This is highlighted in the next scene where  we catch Sage arriving at the seven meeting.  

Turns out they moved it up without letting  her know and its clearly homelander and  

firecracker running the show. We see that  Vought is now selling NFTs of Homelander.  

These are clearly based on the ones Trump sold  with several of the designs looking familiar.

Mike Lindell is mentioned as well with him being  a prominent supporter and Advisor to Trump.

Also nice seeing the board room  decorated in Christmas trees and  

baubles and ey, even in July  I'm feeling bloody Christmass.

Now Homelander has discovered  the bug and he took this from  

under the table last week to  slam it...on the table here.

He's realised Coles not the Mole and is annoyed  that sage says they shouldn't tussle with the CIA  

and should let butcher die of his tumour.  As predicted Homelanders ego gets in the  

way and he sides with Firecracker  because she calls him a great man.

Huge shoutouts to @alexdeatcu8426 on our  last video who said that they think sage  

might even cure Billys cancer. As  we learned last week she cured her  

grandmothers on paper and I think that  would be a great way to take her arc.

We then get a tease of a major plot point which is  that they've hired a shooter. A literal chameleon  

they bring a whole new meaning to the term  shape shifter. In the past we've just had people  

like doppleganger who are able to morph into  others. Here though she tears off her flesh and  

takes on the likeness of the person beneath  it. Its reptilian which again ties in with  

that idea of a chameleon and its one of the  best effects we've seen in the series so far.

Now I say she because all the  characters the characters we  

see her transform into are all women.

We do catch Sage meeting with  a man at about 8 minutes though  

we never find out exactly whats happening here.

So I do wonder if these changes are  restricted to one sex and that's  

why she constantly takes on the form of a woman.

Because of this you have to go back and  look at the series through a different  

lens and wonder if there's any other  characters who've been her. Now that  

takes us into theory time theory time theory time.

So what if Daphne is actually this figure whos  been sent in to spy on Hughie. As we know shes  

had a close connection to Vought and might have  been sent in to keep tabs on the boys. Hughies  

dads death would mean he's fully dependent on her  and she met the rest of the group at the funeral  

last week. It would be a great twist on A-train  being a mole in the Seven and show that The Seven  

have their own one in the boys. Daphne also hasn't  been around in Hughies life enough to the point  

where if he asked her a personal question that  shed be a suspect if she just plain didn't know.

So yeah, I think that might be where theyre  going but let me know your thoughts below.

Anyway from here we cut to Deep  reading his own book titled still  

water runs deep. I say his own book but as  we know he's had ghost writers in the past.

This includes an autobiography  written by Shia LeBeoufs ghost writer.

Sat next to Ambrosia deep ends up killing her  at the end of the episode. This was...was his  

true love and we see he's even comfortable  around her with his vest off. Hes not loyal  

to her and is in fact just loyal to the  seven which we symbolically see in the  

next shot with his and homelanders  picture staring at them on the bed.

Dumping her in the tank he's out to meet Sage  

and I wonder if he's gonna be  her way back into the seven.

Hilarious though how her text says  stab my brain cos obviously she has  

to be lobotomized to not find him  repulsive. We later learn shes been  

hooking up with Noir too but she didn't  have to lobotomise herself to be with him.

Deep threw it all away and ey Ambrosia was right.

Now another theory I have is what we get in the  next scene when we cut over to Annie and Hughie.  

The former tells her mother to pack up and leave  and we cut over to Hughie sitting on his laptop.

You might notice there's a  brymans sticker on it which  

is where the character worked at during season 1.

On screen is the file on Victorias  past which the boys got from Red River.

Now I feel like the shapeshifter has a secondary  objective which we see at the end. She takes  

the laptop out of the safe but we cut away to  Starlight before seeing what happens. Personally  

though I think that shes deleting these files  and thus the leverage the boys have cant be used.

She might also be spying on them  and yeah lots of things they can do.

Either way Annies mother berates her  for having an abortion with her talking  

about how shes put Starlight behind  her. Turns out Hughe saved her suit  

though which Annie hates. This  is another clue early on that we  

have a shapeshifting starlight as shes a  polar opposite with it to how she is here.

Also with the child element I wonder if the  pair will end up having one down the line.  

Potentially this could be another  super powered child who might be  

someone who could counteract Ryan if he goes bad.

Cutting over to an establishing shot, I love how  you can see they've added the seven tower to the  

skylie on the right hand side. Just a nice bit of  attention to detail and snowy rooftops litter the  

landscape. I did wonder if they also set this  in December so that they could take things to  

January for the finale. Dakota Bob could be sworn  in and I think with them discussing so much of  

January 6 in the lead up to the season that they  could integrate this into the plot in some way.

At about 19 minutes 21 we see a file in this  folder for a split second. It has the date on  

it so it makes me think that thats where we're  going. There's also clear basis around JFK with  

the hits being in a similar sort of fashion.  Its an obvious one that but worth mentioning.

Working as an informant for the boys we see  A-train spying on Sage. Cutting to the flat iron,  

they now have a lead on their lee harvey  oswald. Butcher then arrives and tells them  

Samirs alive and that he's been working  on a virus. Love the way that Jeffrey  

Dean Morgan kinda pops in and out the scene  with them masterfully cutting him in and out.

A really nice bit of attention to detail is that  Butcher seems a bit worse for wear than usual.  

Theres more greys in his beard, he looks a little  paler and his eyes are starting to get bloodshot.

After pulling Frenchy out of jail theyre  gonna get him to work on the disease.

Butcher keeping the scientist  alive is rather similar to the  

comics where he used vogelbaum in  secret to make explosive compound v.

Obviously he's been ignoring Kimiko  though but in the end the pair work  

it out. With some more leg amputation  yaaay. Obviously this is meant to mirror  

Samir though with it being a punishment  akin to what happened when he was captured.

At the seven tower we then cut to Ryan.  Amongst all the prim and proper gifts  

the one that stands out to him is a package  from Billy. Inside this is a photo him billy,  

becca and terror which I think symbolises  a lot of things with the character.

Ryan could easily live this life  of luxury with expensive gifts and  

baubles but the thing that he's drawn to is  something real. Though he's got motorbikes  

wrapped up and piles of presents,  its all surface level things that  

don't really matter. What matters is this  rather than what bought are giving him.

is a nod to Butchers gamertag which  was Dontbeac**t was butchers gamertag.

The 7 tower address is 1777 6th avenue with  1777 being the year of the american revolution. 

Back at the flat iron Milk  puts butcher back in charge  

and we get two scenes that reflect one another.

The first is Milk trying to run away  and escape with his family. On the  

opposite side of this is A-train  and ashley who want to run away.  

Milk wrestles with it and he initially seems to  take the deal after being kissed by Marie. He  

does come around at the end with him  refusing to walk away from his duty.

He just wants Marie and Janine safe  which is also mirroed in Ashley.  

Shes fired her assistant gregory which we  learn was for his own protection. He just  

wants to get her away from the tower  and thus did it as an act of mercy.

She says its so easy to become a monster round  

here and clearly has regret  over getting cameron killed.

We find out that Vought have gone public with  it but that his deaths being blamed on the  

flu vaccine. You know what thats playing  off of and I'm gonna have to skirt around  

it unfortunately as youtube has a habit of  instantly demonetising videos discussing it.

However it shows the spin at Vought and  how they're sewing mistrust while telling  

people theyre the only ones telling the truth.  

They also quote Janny McCarthy whos  publicly been critical of vaccines.

Kessler mocks Billy for starting to like the  supes and also brings up him sleeping with  

maeve. This happened in season 3 episode 5 and  he's trying to sew the idea of genocide again.  

In order for this to happen, Butcher cant see  the supes as human which is a tactic thats been  

used throughout history. So he's trying  to steer him away from caring about Ryan  

and the fact that he gave his word to becca.  Because he has all his memories he brings up  

how she obviously didn't really mean that much  to him as we find out that he cheated on her.

Billy gave up drinking after it but its  obviously gonna make him question himself.

At the assassins apartment they discover a woman  tied up but she of course is revealed to be the  

killer. Theres a number 11 outside the building  with that being the issue in the comics where they  

go to Moscow and find a way to destroy the supes  with explosives. In the show this has been changed  

to the virus with the source material having them  use a radio frequency that triggered compound V.

Rushing through the building  and tearing her skin off its  

such a cool way to visualise shape  shifting. It kinda reminds me of the  

transformations in Van Helsing where  they'd literally rip their skin off.

Really cool way to visualise a  change and they manage to escape.

Hughies hand is also cut pretty badly and I  did wonder if they were gonna become him too.  

However they get his DNA later on in more  ways than one so ey, dunno if this is it.

Either way we see A-train showing up to Milks  as he prints off his boarding pass and he talks  

about the kid at the hospital last week. That  meant more toi him than anything before and he  

saw the potential joy his powers could actually  bring. However Milk talks about his worries and  

how the fight with Vought has ruined his family.  In the road trip during season 2 he brought up his  

grandfather was killed by a supe and his dad died  of stress from trying to get justice. The panic  

attacks are now the beginning of this and thus  he wants to leave before the same thing happens.

However if he runs away then his family  arent gonna have much left of a world to  

live in. Voughts gonna take over and yeah,  it puts a lot of weight on his shoulders.

We learn that he's going to Belize which  is a really deep cut reference to breaking  

bad. Screen Rant did a big article breaking  this down with Giancarlo espisito starring as  

both Edgar and Gus Fring. During Season  1 Edgar said to stillwell that when he  

retired he was going to Beliza. In  Breaking Bad Saul Goodman brought  

up Belize as well with the phrase send  him to belize meaning to kill someone.

Gonna need some new clothes for the trip  though. Guy should definitely check out

Cutting across to Simir we see him  willing to do the work as long as its  

taking out Homelander and not Vicky  or his daughter. Frenchy later ends  

going to Kimiko and apologising with her  telling him the truth about Shining light.

We learn the reason that she cant speak is because  the girls who were forced to fight were told  

that the first to cry out loses. It was only when  those in charge allowed her to speak that she did.

This trained her to be a silent assassin with  her refusing to make a noise. She regrets  

what she did though and says that she'd rather  have died than do what she did to those girls.

She hates herself for it and it reflects  Frenchys past in which he killed Colins  

family. Now the pair are looking to  forgive themselves with forgiveness  

being a big theme in the season. Its been  with Hughie and his mother, Homelander in  

the lab...well he didn't really forgive them,  Firecracker and Annie and Colin an Frenchy.  

We also have Kimiko and her friend...well  not her friend but you know what I mean.

Forgiveness is laced throughout the season but the  characters have to learn to forgive themselves.

We also get soldier boy on  a parody of Vigor magazine  

which is a nice little in universe parody.

Now with Homelander we see as he leaves  Ryan a voicemail telling him to suck it  

up and do the puppet show. It shows how  different their relationship has become  

as he told him earlier in the season  not to do Super School. Now though  

he's putting the pressure on and I think we're  eventually gonna see him turn against his dad.

However what makes this scene  standout is whos in the cell.  

This is the same one Maeve was stuck  in last season with it being capable  

of holding Supes. Web Weavers in here  as he's confessed to being the mole.

Due to his addiction he'll say  anything to get his next fix.

Wasnt him though and I love how he just  nervously keeps farting throughout the  

scene. Fed up with him Homelander still tears  him apart with it being a pretty gory death.

It's akin to one of the Sentry's  biggest kills and something that I  

still remember reading for the first time

With Deep we see as he returns from Sage which is  

given as a clue due to the fact he's  carrying the same junk food shes been  

eating throughout the season. Sorry Guy if  you're watching this, I'm sure its lovely.

Ambrosia tries to fight for Deep and she lays  it all out. Tilda Swinton does an incredible job  

playing this heartbroken octopus and hearing  her slowly die...its...its heartbreaking.

Matt pointed out its really similar to Deadpools  death in Deadpool 2 with it being long,  

drawn out and over the top. The funny  thing is deep could've been happy with  

Ambrosia if hed just put the pursuit  of respect to the side. This is akin  

to Mothers Milk who could be happy  if he wasn't so focused on revenge.

Deep has finally turned on the creatures  of the sea and yeah...guys fully gone off  

the deep...end. This is a shame  cos she was willing to touch his  

gills whereas everyone else has  been slightly repulsed by them.

Telling homelander.

36:10 ill kill every goddamn fish  in the ocean if you tell me so

He's once more become his assassin. This  builds off the back of SEason 3 with him  

killing political opponents  under Homelanders direction.

Ambrosia words are unfortunately  true. None of the people in the  

Seven actually care about him and  Homelanders willing to crush them  

like bugs. Cutting to where he left the  dent from the surveillance bug before we  

see his picture on the ceiling staring  down. Now it takes on a more ominous,  

horrifying tone and I love how this once heroic  image has now been twisted to be malevolant.

Now who else is packing things up is  Victoria with Hughie asking her to stop.

He shows up with snacks and earlier in  the season she talked about him buying  

them for zoe as comfort food which  is something the pair bonded over.

Shes moving up in the world but its gonna  be a drastically different one. The camps  

and the way things are going theyre  heading into a fascist dictatorship.  

Victoria is making a deal with the devil  in which she thinks she and her daughter  

will be safe. However they'll likely just be  mindless drones like A-train and Black Noir.

At the flat iron they've come to take  out butcher and annie. WE can also see  

the name of the office the boys workout is  a nod to Arvinder Grewal who worked as the  

production designer for the show before  he sadly passed away in 2020. Paralactic  

attacked the office during issue 61  with this being a slight nod to it.

We then get Billy saying.

38:50 sure you're not too busy  tongue lashing your octopussy.

Deep denies this though we did hear earlier

5:42 your tongue is like an  outboard motor, I came so many times

It leads into a big action scene with it being  remincent of the scene from the punisher. In  

that the Punisher fought the russian and had loads  of weapons hidden throughout his apartment incase  

anyone came knocking. The area is laced with  weapons hidden out everywhere. Butcher busts  

out a crowbar as well which is what he killed  the original black noir with in the comics.

Normally I'd save that for a spoiler section but  

theyre clearly not going that route  so here's your little easter egg.

I also love how they show you how difficult  the supes are to kill as they have  

a literal mini gun ready and waiting. Mothers  milk arrives and uses it and we see bullets  

spill out onto the floor similar to  the helicopter scene in the matrix.

We also learn that the New Noir  is narcaleptic meaning that he is  

unable to control when he's awake  or asleep. Obviously its the kind  

of weakness that will play in down the  line and it buys the gang a bit of time.

A-train arrives and saves the  day with him also admitting he  

hated the deep. The pair went to the  church of the collective as well with  

A-train screwing him over a bit and  taking his spot back in the seven.

Rushing to Ashley he tells her he's been made but  she refuses to join him. Also nice bit of Amazon  

Product Placement as she asks her Echo to play  the Dave Matthews Chill Mix. Wont say the name  

cos it might set yours off mate and as much  as I hate you, I'd never subject you to that.

Thumbs up is right there mate.

She reminds A-train to cut out his  tracking chip and I do wonder if he's  

even gonna appear in the finale now.  Last week I predicted that he might  

be caught and killed but he's been ahead  of the curve and seems like he got away.  

He also took his family with him so any  leverage Vought had is now none existent.

Either way the person who doesn't flee is  

Ashley and we see her staring at  a photo of herself in her youth.

16:00 I spent my junior year in florence

Doing the classic middle fingers up in the air,  hasn't shaved her armpits and is wearing a che  

guevara top. This is obviously her standing  up against the system but now shes become an  

integral part of it. I remember listening to a  podcast about the usage of the figure and how  

he's been sold on t-shirts world wide. Initially  he was meant to represent standing up to the  

system but now his face is printed on t-shirts  en masse to then funnel money into said system.

Hes become a rebellious figure that's  used for profit by corporations which  

sums up Ashleys entire character.  Shes crippled by fear and this  

has been seen in her shredding her  resignation all the way up to this.

Anyway over at a bar we see the gang drowning  their sorrows which is when the shapeshifter  

takes a selfie with Starlighter. I  love how the shapeshifting is kinda  

similar to the T-1000 in that they have to  touch someone before they can mimic them.

The shapeshifter does just end  up gassing her though so I think  

this is more just for them to  take a bit of satisfaction.  

At the end we see them gassing Annie with this  likely being Novichok. Thats what they had to  

use on Soldier boy and its an extremely  powerful gas that can sedate the supes.

Mothers Milk says goodbye to Marie with him  turning down running off into the sunset with her.

Back at Seven Tower we see Homelander breaking  down about A-train with him being devastated  

hes gone. Guy keeps getting betrayed because  he tries to hold everyone in place and most  

people always rebel when they feel they've  lost their freedom. However his personality  

makes him always wanna be dominant which is  exactly why hes setting up internment camps.

Sage reveals she knew A-train was  the leak and had been using him as  

a way to leak only the information she  wanted. Shes clearly been keeping tabs  

on who he was going to and this is  how she knew about Janine last week.

Sent back to detroit she leaves her Brave Maeve  

diary which could hold the  secrets to her ultimate plan.

Speaking of plans, Samir busts out his escape plan  by stabbing Kimiko with the virus. Though it seems  

like the work may now be all down the drain they  now have a sample of the virus in Kimikos leg.

Now when I was a kid, Steal My Sunshine by Len was  my favourite song mate so I absolutely loved its  

usage here. Kimiko also unwraps her gift with  that knees bit on it cutting a little deeper.

Now in a parallel to Homelander, we see Ryan  standing up during the broadcast and speaking out.

We get this bit

Talking about his mother this has made him  realise people shouldn't be going against  

their families. But in doing so hes standing  up to his dad. Butcher ends up collapsing  

though and yeah gonna be interesting to  see if he makes it through the finale.

With Hughie we see him getting lucky  with the shapeshifter but is a ruse  

to get access to the laptop. I also  wonder if having Hughies DNA is gonna  

allow the shapeshifter to get closer  to the boys. Potentially if they can  

work their way up the team they may even  get access directly to Singer. This could  

be how the assassinations pulled off and  yeah, the plans kinda falling into place.

That leads us into the finale next week  with the shapeshifter now amongst the group.

Her eyes are what give it  away with them flickering  

which is similar to Mystique in the X-men movies.

Annies chained up and everyone being played and  yeah I'm excited to see where we go with it.

That takes us into the comic heavy spoilers  stuff namely what happens with the deep.

Anyway I do wonder if the deep being  left alive will come back around. In  

the comics he was one of the only good  members of the seven with him not really  

being inside Homelanders click. He even  ended up joining a slightly different  

group called the true and they may build  that into the character surviving this.

In the comics he was the only black  person in an all white group and the  

hood was deliberately moulded on ku klux  klan one. Obviously lot of racial subtext  

there and though they cant do this 1 for 1 I do  think the deep might end up in another group.

As for next week we know that the episode is  called Assassination Run. Due to the January  

6 clue I think we can kinda figure things  out and exactly how this is gonna go down.

Now in the comics it was Vic the Veep who  killed Dakota bob with him unleashing a  

wolverine on the president. However there he  wasn't a supe whereas for the show Victoria  

is. So I feel like shes gonna be instrumental  in killing him though they might just use the  

Assassin. They can probably infiltrate the group  easier and yeah, I think either or with them.

We also have Edgar out there as well.

After being saved by Victoria he might end  up turning her against the path of siding  

with Homelander. I think hes really  gonna sell her on how devastating  

it could be and how shes had to turn her  daughter into a monster just to be safe.

Now in the comics Homelander ends up storming the  white house with the supes which is a direction  

they could take things. The show does seem  to be leading towards that with Homelander  

seizing all the power in the country. The  creative team have also talked about how they  

based Homelander on Trump so that seems like  the most likely way theyre gonna go with it.

Who knows though but just basing things off the  comics and what the creative team have said,  

I do think that's the way we're gonna go.
