so I have a confession to make it's a
little bit silly but I just saw the
movie City Slickers which I think came
out in
1991 um just a couple of weeks ago but
I'm glad that I did because I think that
there are some truths some reflection
points in that movie that are worth
sharing with all of you now the main
character in the movie is a character
named Mitch Robbins and Mitch is going
through some things right he's stuck
he's not happy in his life he is
experiencing symptoms of depression uh
hopelessness in his life and he's
actually thinking about quitting his job
cuz he's just so miserable and at one
point in the movie his spouse comes to
him and says Mitch I want you to go away
and find your
smile and just that comment is something
that I think that we should all be
reflecting on if we look around and
examine Our Lives if we're not seeing
things like smiles and laughter as part
of our lives
we need to be pressing into that
reflecting on it and figuring out why is
that happening and then taking ownership
of it because Smiles laughter they're
vital to maintaining just happiness
happy cultures and attachment to
whatever it is that we are doing so we
need to go and use those feelings as
signposts and start taking some action
but how can we do that well there's a
couple of ways that I like to do that
and the first way is to start with
gratitude okay the ability to look
around start appreciating just the
people around us the circumstances
around us that are helping us grow
helping us navigate through life some of
those hard things and um just the people
who are contributors in our lives
stepping back and recognizing those
individuals can be very very powerful
and motivating in our lives another
thing that we can do is create something
um just
making a new recipe or doing something
uh along those lines just setting a goal
and setting yourself to creating
something out of nothing um just for the
sheer Joy of creating something can be
very powerful another thing that we can
do is exercise our bodies right we can
get out get healthy get stronger in our
lives but we can also do that with our
minds by consuming books or podcasts and
resources that can help us grow and get
better in our lives we can also get get
out right I'm outside right now shooting
this video but we can also get outside
of our workplaces outside of our
classrooms outside of our homes and um
press into something new um or a new
experience that um can help bring us joy
and happiness into our lives the last
thing that we can do is we can connect
with people or reconnect with old
friends old co-workers and just do life
with people connecting in relationship
is one of the things that we are created
for and it is a powerful way for us to
um just enter into relationship and
connect and grow with the people around
us but whatever it is that you choose to
do I encourage you to take that journey
of joy and laughter seriously don't be
passive when you are noticing signs that
things need to get into a little bit
better alignment in our lives
but whatever it is that you do make sure
that you put that smile back on your
