Highlights

Proposed a new convolutional neural network architecture called AlexNet that achieved record breaking image classification accuracy on ImageNet dataset.

Showed that deep convolutional neural networks can match or exceed human performance on difficult visual recognition tasks.

Demonstrated the importance of ReLU activation functions, dropout regularization, data augmentation and GPU training for improving deep neural networks.

AlexNet paved the way for widespread adoption of deep learning across computer vision and other fields.

Discussed training methodology including splitting into two GPUs, local response normalization, overlapping pooling.

Applied CUDA and GPUs to significantly accelerate training time compared to CPU only training.

Showed that neural networks can learn complex representations directly from raw image pixels given enough data and computation.

Demonstrated how deep CNNs can be effectively pre-trained on large datasets like ImageNet and transferred to other tasks.

AlexNet highlighted importance of big data and big models for driving progress in deep learning.

Started widespread adoption of convolutional networks across computer vision.

Enabled rapid progress in image classification, object detection, image segmentation over following years.

Showed key factors for designing and training high-performance deep neural networks.

Demonstrated potential of deep learning to match or exceed human-level performance.

Led to renewed interest and research into neural networks after slow progress in 1990s.

Opened up new avenues for applying deep learning to speech, natural language, robotics, and other domains.

play00:00

round two of Nvidia launches for January

play00:02

today the 470 TI super a too long didn't

play00:05

watch would probably be it's a little

play00:07

faster than the ti but not quite as fast

play00:09

as the

play00:11

4080 the vonic X2 4K LED projector is

play00:14

the world's first projector designed for

play00:16

play00:18

to 120 in Native refresh rates up to 240

play00:21

HZ built-in Harmon Cardon speakers and

play00:23

low latency gaming modes the X2 4K

play00:25

gaming projector from vsonic delivers a

play00:27

truly customizable experience for both

play00:29

gaming and H Cinema to see our full

play00:31

length video covering features and user

play00:33

experiences follow the links in the

play00:34

description

play00:35

below so this review though is a little

play00:38

bit less about how it Stacks up in the

play00:39

Nvidia uh stack because that's we know

play00:41

exactly where it lines up price-wise and

play00:43

the hierarchy it's all there for me it's

play00:45

going to be how does it compare against

play00:47

the 7900 XT from AMD couple caveats I

play00:51

need to apologize first and foremost uh

play00:52

there's going to be a couple of charts

play00:53

missing from this particular review

play00:55

because of the fact that for whatever

play00:57

reason some of the the Metro last Light

play00:59

is just or Metro Exodus in RT it's just

play01:02

for whatever reason completely gimping

play01:04

performance in 1080P for like the 4080

play01:06

is being out performed by like a

play01:09

4070 uh TI which is weird so weird stuff

play01:13

happening there we admitted that we also

play01:15

have very limited time with the card

play01:16

because Nvidia only gave us one day to

play01:19

prepare this review prior to its launch

play01:21

that's because of the fact that I am not

play01:23

working through the weekend to review

play01:24

this and I have a procedure coming up

play01:25

the beginning of the week which is when

play01:27

the week this goes live which is that

play01:28

Tuesday so we have one day to do this so

play01:31

I definitely implore you to go and watch

play01:34

as many reviews from like Gamers Nexus

play01:36

and uh Hardware unboxed and any of the

play01:39

other guys that are out there doing uh

play01:41

more Deep dive type of architectural

play01:43

reviews so with that said and all the

play01:45

excuses out of the way let's go ahead

play01:47

and talk about how it Stacks up so this

play01:49

is the 4070 TI super what makes the ti

play01:53

super interesting is the fact that even

play01:55

though it's a 4070 card it is built on

play01:58

the 0103 chip which which is actually

play02:00

the same chip that you'll find on the

play02:02

RTX 480 so although the 470 470 super

play02:06

and 470 TI are all built on the 80104

play02:09

the 470 TI super is built on the 80103

play02:13

and that's only because they had no way

play02:15

to really name it lower than an RTX 480

play02:17

and still be a 4080 so really it's like

play02:20

a 4075 if you want to be like honestly

play02:23

they I wish they'd bring back the five

play02:25

number cuz sometimes it makes more sense

play02:26

to do that than use these stupid like

play02:29

names at the end the cards anyway moving

play02:31

on spec-wise as I've already mentioned

play02:32

it's 80103 it's got 8448 uh cacor 264

play02:37

tmus 96 RS 16 GB so that's another thing

play02:40

to point out is the 470 super 470 Fe and

play02:43

470 TI all have 12 GB gigabits gigabytes

play02:47

of gddr6 where this is 16 gbt on a

play02:50

256bit bus where the other 4070 cards

play02:53

are actually on a 192bit bus so really

play02:56

as you can see it is just a shaved down

play02:58

4080 so if we look at the 4070 TI and we

play03:02

look at these specs as you can see 7680

play03:05

core so it's got less Cuda cores on a

play03:07

slower chip so as you can see it's it's

play03:09

a pretty decent jump going to a 4070 TI

play03:12

the price is also um so this is where

play03:15

we'll talk about price right now these

play03:18

are the specs that you can see the 4070

play03:19

TI super is significantly better on with

play03:22

a it's a better memory bus more RAM more

play03:26

cores on a faster die for the same MSRP

play03:30

as this card so that's why this card has

play03:32

just been Sunset it's at its end of life

play03:34

is being replaced by the 4070 TI super

play03:37

so anyone buying or has bought a 4070 TI

play03:40

like right now or in the past couple

play03:41

weeks or since these cards have launched

play03:43

have gimped their performance per dollar

play03:46

by not waiting hypothetically assuming

play03:48

all these cards would be available at

play03:49

launch so right now things are kind of

play03:52

weird with the graphics card market like

play03:54

409s are still kind of hard to come by

play03:56

but 470s and 480s have been around 480s

play03:58

for a little bit more kind of hard to

play03:59

get okay I digress if we take a look at

play04:01

the 4080 though 9728 uh cores 304 tmus

play04:06

112 RS 16 GB on a 256bit bus so it is

play04:10

just a slightly locked down 80103

play04:14

remember 4080 super when it comes out

play04:16

that is a fully realized

play04:18

8103 uh all 10,200 some OD Cuda cor is

play04:22

basically 512 More Than This is how that

play04:24

works out but um yeah so that's why I'm

play04:27

showing you the 4080 on here because

play04:28

realistically 4070 TI is essentially a

play04:31

480 with some with 512 Kuda cor locked

play04:36

so um another thing to point out there

play04:38

is no um Founders Edition for the 4070

play04:42

TI super so that's why you're seeing a

play04:44

uh Asus tough this is the card that was

play04:46

provided by Nvidia Nvidia actually uh is

play04:49

curating these uh card samples so we

play04:52

have a tough sent over by Nvidia and uh

play04:55

let's go ahead and just kind of get

play04:56

right into the charts this is where

play04:58

things kind of look funny so so I this

play05:00

is current pricing right now for

play05:02

MSRP as you can see the 480 at $1.99 is

play05:07

what is that $400 more than a 480 or

play05:10

excuse me a 4070 TI super tough we also

play05:13

think they should just rename it the RTX

play05:14

470 TI super tough gaming OC RGB ready

play05:19

VR ready Edition 4070 TI tough was $.99

play05:24

and the 47 TI super tough is also $77.99

play05:27

so when you look at the next charts

play05:28

you'll keep in mind when you see the

play05:29

Improvement gain the performance gain

play05:31

that is at the same price point uh it's

play05:33

not very often Nvidia does this sort of

play05:35

thing now one thing I want to point out

play05:37

here is you can see the 7900 XT I've

play05:39

listed at 750 even though according to

play05:41

amd's website with the price drop its

play05:44

MSRP is 849 it was an initial MSRP of

play05:48

899 when it was designed to compete with

play05:51

the RTX 480 at 1,200 so it was $300

play05:56

cheaper than the 4080 which is what it

play05:58

was really sort of designed to compete

play06:00

with although it never really caught the

play06:01

480 in performance $300 less was a nice

play06:06

story to talk about because that would

play06:07

like most of the cost of your CPU just

play06:09

in price difference um so I'm pointing

play06:11

out the fact that I put 750 on here

play06:13

because although that's listed on their

play06:15

website you can go to Amazon or New Egg

play06:16

right now at least here in the United

play06:18

States and find them for as low as

play06:20

$729 for aibs which are arguably faster

play06:24

than the reference cards that are at

play06:26

MSRP so I think it's just because one of

play06:28

the AMD cards just probably sell one to

play06:32

one card for every 10 Nvidia cards which

play06:34

is unfortunate but they are a they're

play06:37

really good value especially when you

play06:39

can find them under MSRP like they are

play06:41

now so I put the price you can buy it

play06:42

for right now which is why it says

play06:44

current price in USD at 750 cuz if I was

play06:47

to put the price of $ 850 at the MSRP

play06:50

that would not be doing the card any

play06:51

favors because that's not realistic cuz

play06:53

you can buy it for more than $100 less

play06:55

than that that1 to $120 difference makes

play06:58

a significant price proposition value to

play07:00

consider when you look at the charts

play07:02

moving forward and then you can see the

play07:03

470 super down here at $5.99 it's like

play07:06

significantly lower $200 less but it's

play07:10

technically now the card right below the

play07:13

470 uh TI super so that's why it's on

play07:15

the chart moving forward oh also too

play07:18

because of the limited time with the

play07:19

cards I would have loved to included

play07:20

like the 3080 3080 TI 3090 and all those

play07:23

cards I've already explained why I do

play07:26

not have those cards on here but that

play07:27

would be a a fun inclusive list to see

play07:30

uh how it Compares for much cheaper at

play07:32

this point okay Port Royal as you can

play07:35

see looks exactly like you would expect

play07:37

it to 480 on top and then we got the 470

play07:40

TI super tough kind of right here in the

play07:43

middle now one thing I want to keep in

play07:44

mind is the 480 Fe does also boost as

play07:47

high as like 2845 MHz whereas the 4070

play07:50

TI super tough even though we were on

play07:53

the performance bios um was boosting to

play07:55

about 2745 now keep in mind this this

play07:58

cooler is significantly overbuilt

play08:00

considering the fact that it's the same

play08:02

cooler they would throw on like a 4080

play08:05

which a 350 watt card versus the

play08:08

285 Watts that you'll find for the uh

play08:11

the TDP on this card it's either 280 or

play08:14

285 I apologize I forget but I know it's

play08:16

like 280 285 they talked about lifting

play08:19

the power limit which is one of the ways

play08:21

that they were able they had to lift the

play08:23

power limit because on the ad 103 it's a

play08:25

little bit more power demanding but

play08:27

still 350 versus 285 the fact that it's

play08:30

even anywhere near a 4080 in performance

play08:32

shows some pretty nice efficiency there

play08:35

um looks exactly as you'd expect cuz

play08:36

it's an RT test the 7900 XT is kind of

play08:39

down here in the mid 13,000 not looking

play08:41

great but not looking Fant you know

play08:44

terrible either so once we move on to 3D

play08:46

Mark Times by extreme which is not an RT

play08:48

test it's a rasterization test um we no

play08:51

longer have that generational difference

play08:52

between Gen 2 RT cores from AMD and gen

play08:55

3 RT cores built into Nvidia um you can

play08:58

see the 7900 XT definitely jumps up

play09:01

significantly in the chart it has a lot

play09:02

of horsepower compared to like the 80103

play09:05

when it comes to Cuda cor versus the

play09:06

stream processor found in the 7,000

play09:08

series radon cards um you can see it's

play09:11

about 1,000 points behind the 480 but

play09:14

this is all going to change in about a

play09:15

week cuz remember in one week the 4080

play09:17

super is going to launch and at $9.99

play09:21

$200 less than current putting it at the

play09:23

MSRP of a 7900 XTX so when we compare it

play09:27

to the 7900 XT it's going to go even

play09:29

farther forward and probably even

play09:31

farther ahead of the 7900 XTX at the

play09:34

same price as that so that'll be a fun

play09:36

that's like Frasier and Ali right there

play09:38

7900 XTX versus 480 super that'll be fun

play09:41

unfortunately am is empting to compete

play09:42

with the 490 but we're not talking about

play09:44

that today we're talking about the 470

play09:45

TI super which is right here in the

play09:46

middle it's faster than the 4070 TI and

play09:49

slower than a 480 Borderlands 3 is a fun

play09:52

title only because it is very AMD biased

play09:55

it is literally like team red all the

play09:57

way now sure it is losing compared to

play09:59

the RTX 480 Fe um but it's like way up

play10:03

here at the top of the chart I mean 229

play10:04

FPS 173 and 1440 and 96 it is beating

play10:08

the 4070 TI super tough by 7 FPS and

play10:12

1080 uh about 15 FPS and 1440 and 10 FPS

play10:16

in 4k so it's faster in those higher

play10:19

resolutions for less money than a 470 TI

play10:22

super so that's why I said in the title

play10:24

of this video like Nvidia has an AMD

play10:26

problem right now at least when it comes

play10:27

to this price point and that's I don't

play10:30

see AMD dropping the price again because

play10:32

cards are already selling below MSRP so

play10:34

you can change the MSRP all you want

play10:36

they're already below that so it doesn't

play10:37

make a difference but uh yeah I mean

play10:39

it's nice to see the 7 7900 XT up above

play10:43

the 4070 TI super even though it is a

play10:45

biased title for a cheaper cost cyber

play10:49

Punk is a is a another story where that

play10:51

horsepower really shines so as you can

play10:53

see without RT it's just right there on

play10:55

the heels of the RTX

play10:57

480 uh and and ahead of the 4070 TI

play11:00

super now you can see right here the 470

play11:02

TI super and the 4070 TI tough like

play11:05

exactly the same FPS in 1080P this is

play11:07

the kind of this is one of the things I

play11:09

hate about some of the press driver

play11:11

stuff is every now and then like a new

play11:12

card even though it's on the same

play11:14

architecture and it's the same

play11:15

manufacturer like Nvidia and all that

play11:16

every now and then a title just does

play11:18

something super weird with it and it

play11:20

takes time for the a a driver release or

play11:22

two for some of these brand new cards to

play11:24

get ironed out by the engine uh and the

play11:27

drivers for those engines but it is what

play11:29

it is I if we look at like 4K and 1440p

play11:31

same story right it's like identical in

play11:34

1440p as it is with the 7900 XT but

play11:38

obviously these these two 1080 numbers

play11:40

are kind of are kind of just weird and

play11:42

it's only one FPS difference in 4k so it

play11:45

is what it is take it with a grain of

play11:46

salt but once we turn on RT the PO 7900

play11:50

XT just trips and falls on its face it's

play11:53

like watching a hurdle race but the

play11:54

person trips over every hurdle along the

play11:56

way that's just what happens with rt now

play11:58

it's important to keep in mind with our

play11:59

charts that our charts are also at like

play12:02

highest or near highest settings so this

play12:05

rton though is not path Trace to RT and

play12:08

that's important to note cuz cyberpunk

play12:09

is one of the only titles where it's

play12:11

like RT Beyond right it's the hardest

play12:14

way of rendering Ray tracing but it's

play12:17

also important to note neither none of

play12:18

our titles are using dlss or AMD uh

play12:21

motion frames or fluid motion frames or

play12:23

any of that stuff this is just raw

play12:24

horsepower of the architecture we like

play12:27

to see how the cards perform when they

play12:29

rely on their own brute horsepower and

play12:30

not software implementation so that's

play12:32

kind of the way we do our reviews around

play12:34

here um doesn't make the brands happy

play12:36

but that's often times what the

play12:38

consumers want to see so as we move

play12:40

forward here to shadow of the Tomb

play12:41

Raider no RT the cards are pretty much

play12:43

bumping right up against the new cap of

play12:45

right around 300 FPS in the title but

play12:49

again it looks exactly as you'd expect

play12:50

the 4070 TI is super tough though edging

play12:52

out the 7900 XT barely like the in a

play12:56

blind taste test you would not really be

play12:58

able to differ differentiate these cards

play13:00

which I think is an important thing to

play13:01

consider considering the fact that they

play13:02

are they do have a pretty measurable

play13:05

price difference because this is an MSRP

play13:07

card but there's not a whole lot of room

play13:08

for customization on these cards as you

play13:09

start to encroach on the price of the

play13:11

RTX 480 super I mean it's a $200 Gap

play13:14

right there but if EAS some what is it

play13:18

the 4080 Neptune was like

play13:22

$1,700 more expensive it was more

play13:24

expensive than a 490 just cuz it was

play13:26

water cooled which is dumb I would buy

play13:27

an air cooled 49 over a water cooled

play13:29

4080 any day of the week so we they need

play13:31

to avoid that with this skew uh let's

play13:33

see once we turn on RT though you can

play13:35

see the 7900 XT unfortunately Falls all

play13:37

the way to the bottom 480 or 4070 TI

play13:40

super right there right underneath the

play13:42

RTX 480 everything looks exactly as you

play13:45

wouldd expect here although keep in mind

play13:46

with that horsepower um it's getting a

play13:49

little it's it's matching 4K and 1440p

play13:52

performance of more like a 4070

play13:54

TI um versus you know the 4070 it's

play13:57

behind but this is just just this is an

play13:59

RT core measurement at this point and

play14:00

the their RT accelerators are behind

play14:03

nvidia's RT cores Gears of War 5 I don't

play14:06

like this title it's probably one I'm

play14:07

going to drop in the future we're going

play14:08

to be adding some more titles to our

play14:10

charts getting some rid of some entirely

play14:13

because now we're starting to see some

play14:14

of the weird wonkiness like this I mean

play14:16

check this out so we've got the RTX 470

play14:18

tough down here with like the lowest

play14:20

1080p frames but in terms of 4K and

play14:24

1440p it really should be up here with

play14:26

like the 7900 XT and right behind the

play14:28

480

play14:29

we've R we ran it multiple times we

play14:31

can't figure out why that is this is one

play14:32

of those that we have to chalk up to

play14:34

like we we we have a spreadsheet that

play14:36

has tracks all the settings we make sure

play14:38

all of our background tasks are exactly

play14:40

the same it's all done on the same

play14:42

machine we're not running multiple

play14:43

machines cuz we think it's very

play14:45

important to have the card run on the

play14:46

same CPU same motherboard same Ram same

play14:48

everything same OS installation

play14:50

otherwise it's easy to uh get results

play14:52

that are beyond the limitation of margin

play14:54

of error so these are all of these tests

play14:56

have been run within the last couple

play14:59

weeks and they are all in the same

play15:01

system so we have no idea why some of

play15:03

the gears of f War five numbers are are

play15:06

what they are it's also important to

play15:08

keep in mind this is a port and ports

play15:10

tend to do this weird kind of stuff so

play15:12

with that said moving on fora Horizon 5

play15:15

AMD title can you

play15:17

tell so if you're a fora Horizon 5

play15:20

player you're going to want a 7900 XT

play15:22

because look at that it's it's beating

play15:24

everything except for 4K 4K the 480 is

play15:27

faster by much but it's faster

play15:30

everywhere else uh with for Horizon 5 so

play15:33

let's talk about temperatures because of

play15:34

the fact that this card is running the

play15:36

same cooler that the RTX 480 is and it's

play15:38

significantly lower on its power needs

play15:41

uh it was running high 50s low 60s

play15:44

pretty much at all times and that is on

play15:45

an open air test bench so the only thing

play15:47

affecting the cooling of the card is the

play15:49

card's cooler

play15:51

itself let's talk about whether or not

play15:53

you should buy a 4070 TI or potentially

play15:58

a discounted RTX

play16:00

480 see I I have a hard time seeing

play16:03

retailers reducing the price of an RTX

play16:06

480 under

play16:08

$9.99 before even after the 4080 super

play16:12

launch see do you know why because

play16:15

they've basically already purchased

play16:16

those cards at their wholesale costs

play16:18

which is going to be higher than $999

play16:19

there's not a lot of margin on gpus so

play16:22

when you deal with like purchasing with

play16:24

retails and stuff it's not it's not like

play16:27

the manufacturer it's not like Asus and

play16:29

gigabyte and MSI and all of them are

play16:31

sending over crates of cards and then

play16:33

they're saying hey just give us our

play16:35

profit when you sell the card no the

play16:37

stores are buying them wholesale like

play16:40

that's that's a cash transaction that

play16:41

has taking place so the stores now have

play16:44

to either take a hit and loss by

play16:47

reducing the cost of the 4080 otherwise

play16:49

they're going to be sitting here seeing

play16:50

4080 is costing more than a 4080 super

play16:53

or they're just going to artificially

play16:54

increase the price of the the 480 super

play16:57

so I don't know how that's going to look

play16:59

the reason why I think retailers are not

play17:01

going to reduce the price is because

play17:03

there's still retailers out there and

play17:04

eilers right now selling 3060 TI for the

play17:07

same price as the 460 TI and we know the

play17:10

460 TI is much faster so what's going to

play17:12

happen with the 480s I don't know it

play17:15

it'll be interesting to see but I feel

play17:16

like 4070 TI super it's it's a nice

play17:19

attempt by Nvidia to give you a little

play17:21

more for the same amount of money might

play17:23

be a little bit too little too late um

play17:26

but I I I I feel like a lot of people

play17:29

should just maybe look for some lightly

play17:31

used RTX

play17:32

480s in in that price point man it it

play17:36

it's one of those things where you have

play17:36

two ways that you can look at this and

play17:39

I'm going to say the same thing

play17:40

obviously with the RTX 480 super when

play17:42

that when that review launches in one

play17:43

week you can you can praise Nvidia by

play17:47

hold on I know you're already pissed off

play17:48

and probably hitting D like d like d

play17:50

like this video Del like it like that

play17:54

that's someone that might have already

play17:55

liked it and they're Del liking it okay

play17:56

wait let me finish it you'll re likee it

play17:59

after I'm done with what I'm going to

play18:00

say you can choose to praise Nvidia for

play18:03

saying hey they're giving us more for

play18:04

the same money right cuz they're doing

play18:06

it with the 480 and 480 super and

play18:07

they're doing it right now with the 470

play18:09

TI and 470 TI super faster card as you

play18:12

can see on the chart right now for the

play18:15

same money or you can look at it and say

play18:17

they could have done this all along they

play18:19

could have launched the 48 the 40 series

play18:22

launched significantly inflated pricing

play18:25

over the 30 series and what that was

play18:27

supposed to be see the 30 series

play18:28

suffered heavily from scalping in a time

play18:31

when there was a chip shortage in the

play18:32

world and scalpers are they they're

play18:35

their opportunist they're opportunists

play18:37

right so they're going to look at where

play18:38

the opportunity is whether you're a

play18:39

sneaker head or vinyl

play18:42

collector graphics cards whatever there

play18:44

is a there is a demand is where you're

play18:46

going to find scalpers and they will buy

play18:48

up in droves and teams and then sell it

play18:50

for double some or triple what they're

play18:53

worth during the um the human malware

play18:55

infection right so you can choose to say

play18:57

okay we're getting more for the same

play18:58

price or they could have always launched

play19:01

the 4080 at the $9.99 price point I I

play19:05

said it in my in the announcement video

play19:07

that I I don't I don't personally feel

play19:10

like Nvidia deserves

play19:12

praise for throwing us a bone at

play19:15

dropping the price 200 bucks at a $1,000

play19:17

graphics card because they've already

play19:19

built their fortune on the

play19:21

cryptocurrency mining craze the scalping

play19:24

craze and then now because buyers are

play19:27

finally fighting back in saying we don't

play19:28

need this crap inflation is cooled it's

play19:30

still higher than what it should be uh

play19:32

it's still around 5% we're the industry

play19:35

is trying to get down to like 3% 2% but

play19:38

the damage has been done and the brand

play19:40

damage has is there the tarnish is there

play19:43

because the true colors were squeeze and

play19:45

ring the market out for every dollar

play19:48

they're worth and then when sales start

play19:50

to slow down let's throw them a bone and

play19:52

the bone is 47 TI super is the same

play19:54

price and 48 super coming down so the

play19:56

performance is good versus what what we

play19:58

saw pricing but I still think it's a bad

play20:01

taste and it's a bad look because it's

play20:04

not like it's gotten that much cheaper

play20:06

to manufacture the ad 103 those are the

play20:09

two ways you can look at it yay more

play20:11

performance same money go Nvidia Rah R

play20:14

ra or man they were hosing us all along

play20:18

which is the camp I sort of live in but

play20:20

until we get AMD really giving us

play20:22

consistently better performance for the

play20:24

same money is it really going to change

play20:27

all right guys thanks for

play20:29

watching see you in a week well we'll

play20:32

have more videos before then but we'll

play20:33

see you within more cards and the same

play20:35

stuff just different numbers we'll say

play20:36

the same exact thing you just heard me

play20:38

say today with different

play20:40

numbers
