is a place where people will suffer

forever

it is according to common thinking a

place where a fire burns forever

and into which people are thrown who

have not lived up to the standard of god

the word hell however does not appear in

hebrew

nor in aramaic nor in greek

the word translated hell in the bible is

the word gehenna

gehenna means valley of hinnom it's the

name of the valley

south of the old city of jerusalem it

was actually called

valley ben hinnem or the valley of the

son of hennam

before we proceed i would like to

explain something else to you

there's a big difference between the old

testament and a new testament

so everything before christ and

everything after christ

paul says in colossians 2 so don't let

drink or for not celebrating certain

for these rules are only shadows of the

yet to come and christ himself is that

but as he says at the end these things

the new jerusalem is the bride of christ

valley of hinnom the gehenna which is

translated as hell

jesus uses this natural place to explain

spiritual things to us

the valley of hinnom was the place where

the way this idol was worshiped was by

sacrificing

children to him by burning them

around the year 7 30 before christ that

was ahaz who was king over judah

who worshipped this idol

and burned his children in the fire

according to the abominations of the

nations whom the lord had cast out

god is disgusted by all of this

he says to jeremiah they have built the

which is in the valley of the son of

hinnom to burn their sons and their

don't live

so if anyone sets your house on fire 490

and make him a man in our likeness

but god wants to mold you into his image

the bible is overflowing with words of

the goodness of god

but we think they refer only to a

handful of people

but jesus himself is the propitiation

for our sins

because all sinned but grace is not like

for if by the transgression of the one

all died

spirit says to the churches

so we must use our spiritual ears and

understand what god is saying to us

thus fire in the bible also has a

spiritual meaning

we can find the meaning of fire in the

bible itself

the fire of what we call hell is the

very love of god

our god is a consuming fire

this fire is not there to destroy or

torment us forever

this fire is the word of god that burns

so every person goes through this fire

and not when we have died but now when

we live in this body

for everyone will be salted with fire

the writer of psalms 66 puts it this way

peter also says it exactly like that

in this you greatly rejoice even though

for a little while if necessary you have

been distressed by various trials

so that the proof of your faith being

more precious than gold which is

perishable

even though tested by fire may be found

to result in praise and glory and honor

at the revelation of jesus christ

so everyone must be purified by the fire

of the word of god

for everyone will be salted with fire

book of life

he is thrown into the lake of fire in

all that is not of god burns away the

nebuchadnezzar was so furious with

bind shadrach meshach and abednego and

throw them into the blazing furnace

so they tied them up and threw them into

fully dressed in their pants turbans

robes and other garments

and because the king in his anger had

the flames killed the soldiers as they

securely tied fell into the roaring

for the words of the lord are pure words

as silver tried in a furnace on the

earth refined

seven times these pure words of god

burn everything that derives from the

old man

the men who brought up shadrach meshach

and abednego

were servants of the king of babylon in

the natural

in the spiritual there's servants of the

old man

who himself wants to sit on the throne

so they drop

dead when they come close to the blazing

fire of the word of god

shadrach meshach and abednego are thrown

into the fire

for everyone must be purified by the

fire of the word of god

they come out unharmed however because

god gave

these young men an unusual aptitude for

understanding

every aspect of literature and wisdom

shadrach meshach and abednego were pure

in the teaching of god

the fire of the word of god didn't burn

off anything

for they were already completely

purified

they were renewed in the spirit of their

minds and

clothed with the new man created in the

likeness of god

in true righteousness and holiness there

was nothing left for god's word to burn

off of them

hell as we call it is not a place where

god makes his children

suffer an eternal pain in a fire

god himself is that fire the fire of god

is the love of god that leads us to the

place where there is

no pain and no sorrow god will wipe away

every tear from their eyes there shall

be no more death

nor sorrow nor crying there shall be no

more pain

for the former things have passed away

then

he who said on the throne said behold i

make all things new

and he said to me right for these words

are true and faithful and he said to me

it is done i am the alpha and the omega

the beginning and the end i will give of

the fountain of the water of life freely

to him who thirsts he who overcomes

shall inherit

all things and i will be his god and he

shall be my son

but the cowardly unbelieving abominable

murderers sexually immoral sorceress

idolaters and all liars this is the

old man and everything that derives from

the old man

shall have their part in the lake which

burns with fire and brimstone

this lake of fire and brimstone is the

word of god

burning the old man away from you and

bringing you to perfection

this word of god is an everlasting fire

for the grass withers the flower fades

but the word of god stands forever

heaven and earth will pass away but my

words will

never pass away

search me o god and know my heart try me

and know my anxious thoughts and see if

there is

any hurtful way in me and lead me in the

everlasting way
