She shares her personal journey of commitment to daily Bible reading since 2017, emphasizing that it's never too late to start. She suggests asking oneself why they want to read the Bible consistently and emphasizes that it should stem from a desire to grow closer to God, not just out of obligation. the number one thing I get asked Kayla

single day and you're doing it every
single morning I've got four simple
shifts for you today that changed
everything for me in 2017 to help me get
consistent and stay consistent until now
so let's
[Music]
go y'all welcome back my name is Kayla
and I'm here to just bring you all the

consistent in the Bible to understand

tutorials I have got Bible studies
coming for you and I'm so excited and so
honored that you're even here to share
this with me so leave a comment if you
can but subscribe and let's get right
into today's teaching because I want to
share with you four super simple shifts
that I was able to make in my life to
get me to being consistent with reading
the Bible now this is seriously one of
the probably most asked questions that I
get Kayla how are you so consistent
reading the Bible right I'm sharing on
social media every day since 2017
reading the Bible every day sitting down
in this consistent going through it and
that's one of the best like biggest
questions that I get asked is hey how
are you so consistent with this and so I
want to share with you today four shifts
that I made in 2017 to get me to this
point now the reason I keep reminding
you that it was 2017 was actually not so
that you can say like oh my gosh it's
been seven years that you've been
consistent in this it's actually to
share this I got saved when I was in
junior high in the 90s um I went and was
like fully involved in church as a young
adult that's when I really started to
grow started to desire my own
relationship with God so much so that in
2010 then I went back to school and
earned a second degree studying the
Bible after that I worked for a large
Church full-time went on mission trips
all the things did you hear me I earned
a second degree studying the Bible in
2010 was working for a church full-time
Ministries all of it and it wasn't until
2017 that I actually like started
reading the Bible every day consistently
it wasn't until 2017 so I just want to
encourage you you're not too late you're
not behind God's not Petty like we are
so you can do this you can pick up the
Bible now and start reading for me it
was just this moment it was this moment
of conviction from the Holy Spirit I was
doing all the things when you say like
checklist Christian I checked every box
going to prayer sitting in prayer
praying watching extra sermons reading
the extra books doing the Bible studies
going to every class at church gospel
music only all the things and it was in
that moment that I was reading another
book in the the mornings um that I
really felt the Holy Spirit convict me a
very simple a very gentle hey Kayla
you're spending a lot of time about God
but you're not spending any time with
God and I had to figure that out I was
spending so much time about God I I knew
so much about God I was reading books
about God I was listening to other
people teach me about God I was taking
classes I got another degree to know
more about God but I wasn't spending any
time with him and it was that day in
2017 that I committed to pick up the
Bible and read it every single day I
started off with just one chapter a day
and that went on for years one chapter a
day consistent consistent consistent
when I ask you what's your biggest
struggle with reading the Bible most
people will say consistency or
discipline but here's the thing in order
to stay consistent you have to first get
consistent so today I've got those four
shifts that I'm going to help you with
to help you get consistent in reading
the Bible and the first one is this
start with relationship start with
relationship now I know we can say all
kinds of things about relationship and
religion and I'm not even going to go
there but I want you to focus on your
relationship with God see for me now and
even then this wasn't about just reading
a book this wasn't a task this wasn't a
checkbox of what I wanted to check off
otherwise I could have done it right I
could have done the a Bible in a year
plan or even something else and checked
it off every single day but for me it
wasn't about that this is about starting
with my relationship because the
conviction for me was hey you're
spending all this time about me but
you're not spending time with me so this
was about me spending time with God
that's what a real relationship is my
gosh you can pick an athlete let's just
go LeBron James you could know all of
his stats you could know his birth date
you could know where he's from you could
know the teams you could know his family
all the things but do you ever spend
time with him see you may like have even
posters in your room or pictures and be
like that's my boy do you ever spend
time with him that's a different level
of relationship so I want to encourage
you in your relationship with God to
spend time with him and right here is
one of the I don't want to say best but
I'll say it one of the best ways to
spend time with God is in the Bible so
start with relationship and ask yourself
this why do you want to read the Bible
why do I want to read the Bible and
maybe even pause me right now and think
about it why do I want to read the Bible
and why do I want to read the Bible
consistently and and I really truly pray
that your answer is not because I should
because I'm a Christian because I want
to you know whatever it is but really
dig into this relationship that you have
with God and and ask yourself why why do
you want to get consistent with this
something that I tell people all the
time is look um reading the Bible didn't
change my life reading the Bible changed
my relationship with God and that
changed my life this totally changed my
relationship with God
completely changed it now here's the
thing you're not wrong you're not bad
you're not behind you are right here
right now think about it there's always
ways to grow in a relationship right
think about people who are married even
people who've been married 20 30 years
and then they you know things change and
they're growing in different directions
or they're not or everything's great but
they go to a a retreat or something for
married couples and all of a sudden they
start implementing date night once a
week
does that mean they weren't in a great
relationship before no but You' now can
Implement something and something
consistantly that will get you in that
growth get you to grow in your
relationship and that's how I want you
to see this that's how I want you to
truly have the heart for reading the
Bible is this is time for me to spend
with God to grow our relationship the
consistency in this is actually about
starting with your relationship not with
a task that you feel like you have to
complete cuz spoiler alert like there's
no end you may think this is a cover to
cover book it's not this is alive right
God's word is alive sharper than any
two-edged sword it is alive and it never
expires it never expires okay so like
there is no finish there is no finish in
your relationship with God so keep going
but start with relationship the second
thing I want to encourage you to do is
to help you get consistent in this that
really helped for me is set it apart set
this time apart set it apart from
everything else that you do in your day
so for me this was something that I had
to figure out right you may be someone
who you know you do everything at your
desk or you do everything at the kitchen
table right but can you set this apart
choose a space in your home maybe it's
in your car whatever it is choose a
space choose a time and set set it apart
this is how we actually build a habit
you go to the same place at the same
time every day that's how you actually
build a habit and that's what we're
really trying to do because I truly
believe that the reason why a lot of
Believers and a lot of Christians don't
read the Bible it's not because you
don't understand it it's actually
because we haven't been taught to build
the Habit to do it okay so set this time
apart and here's the other thing about
setting it
apart oh I'm such a like get yourself a
physical Bible I know it's 2024 I know
people use apps and people use screens
and that's kind of how our world has
gone but I want to encourage you to set
this time apart and let a physical Bible
help you with that because here's the
thing if you're just scrolling on your
phone and reading on your phone you do
those same actions all the time you do
the same action as you're scrolling on
Instagram you do the same action as
you're watching videos the same action
as you're checking emails as you're
sending texts let alone like you're
getting notifications while you're
spending time with God and I'm not
saying it has to be undivided
relationships don't always have
undivided attention right oh maybe maybe
we need to just say that let's go back
to a married couple again right you may
have those undivided attention date
nights that you set your phones away and
stuff but your relationship still grows
when you've got kids sitting there when
you're watching a movie together but
someone's making dinner right it's not
always about undivided attention it's
about spending time together so I'll get
into that in a future video about how to
spend time with God and all the
different ways that you can do that but
right here I want you to set this time
apart so for me in 2017 I actually got a
new Bible it well it wasn't new to me at
the time I had had it for a while but I
had never opened it I got one of those
cute ones I think I have it
here in 2017 this Bible was so cute it
was like teal green this was
leather but this is what it looks like
after me reading it and using it every
single day after a couple years I mean
gosh you know a couple years of every
single day and then I had to end up
getting a new one and so I got this one
just a year and a half ago and I'll link
this one actually in the description
below if you want to grab the same Bible
as me is the New Living Translation but
you can do some research I actually have
a whole another video I'll link it here
for you a whole another video to help
you choose the best Bible translation
okay so you don't have to get the same
one as me but if you want to see where
this one is I'll link it in the
description below but set this time
apart make it different and that may be
by grabbing a physical Bible okay maybe
it's actually like setting up a space in
your room and you just get like a new
blanket or a special chair that you sit
in or maybe this is this is totally Me
Maybe it's a new Journal maybe you get a
new journal or a new pen and that's
going to set you apart for your time
with God whatever it is I want to
encourage you okay so start with
relationship and set it apart make it
unique make it different make it
something special in your life we do
this in other areas have you ever wanted
to like run a 10K or a half marathon or
even just a 5k I shouldn't say just or
even a 5K and sometimes when you do that
once you sign up once you commit to that
and say you're in what we like to go buy
a new pair of shoes a new pair of shoes
because I'm investing in this this is
going to make me keep going I'm letting
you know that I'm serious that let me
know that I was serious this lets me
know that I'm serious okay so set it
apart the third thing I want to help you
with is this Stack The Habit habit
stacking is incredible and can help
change so many things in our lives
including reading the Bible and
including getting consistent in the
Bible here's the thing something that
you do naturally all day not all day but
every day something that you do every
day so like you may have your coffee in
the morning every day and sit down and
usually you just scroll or you like
check the news or you whatever you do
right but you have your coffee every day
there are some people who you don't want
to meet them before they've had their
coffee in the morning can you stack
reading the Bible with your coffee can
you actually set your Bible with your
chosen coffee mug the night before so
that it's right there ready with you
stack The Habit together maybe something
that you do every day is you on your
lunch break at work you go and sit at a
table
outside take your Bible with you maybe
something that you do every day is sit
in the line to pick up your kids from
school every single day that's actually
a habit that's part of your schedule
that's built in can that be a great time
for you to get consistent in reading the
Bible something that you're already
doing just stack this on top of it now
here's the other thing with stacking
stacking May mean before or it may mean
after I prefer before to put the new
habit in the new one goes before so for
me in 2017 I'm such a Mourning person
and that was in my like personal trainer
Fitness industry
era and so I was going to the gym every
day at 5:30 in the morning every single
day no if and buts Monday through
Saturday I would take Sundays off for
church Monday through Saturday every day
5:30 in the morning I made a deal
stacking this habit before before I go
to the gym I spend time with God and you
know what it actually didn't mean that I
now have to wake up an hour earlier for
me when I first started it was probably
15 minutes and then that progressed over
time and over time and over time and
where I felt God leading me but before I
go to the gym I spend my time with God
in his word okay so stacking your habits
May mean that you can stack it before so
start with relationship set it apart
Stack The Habit and the fourth simple
shift that really truly changed the
consistency in reading the Bible for me
was see the change see the change when
you can see change when you can like
exper experience change in your life
that's actually your motivation to stay
consistent right once you get consistent
let's talk about working out let's talk
about your health Journey once you start
to like lose a couple pounds if that's
your goal or gain some muscle if that's
your goal that dress fits a little
different your skin clears up that's
your motivation to keep doing it right
so if you get youve got to see the
change if all of a sudden you're like
more patient in the day or someone else
points it out to you like hey you
usually would flip out about that and
like you didn't do anything like what
have you been doing were you like
meditating were you doing something and
then recognizing that it's actually
because of the time you've been spending
with God in his word maybe you're
thinking about things differently maybe
you've got some strategies in your mind
some ideas are coming that are fresh can
you give God the credit and you see the
change in your life that change truly
will Propel you forward to keep going
the change is what will get you to that
point of consistency when you can see it
you want to experience it more so you
keep going and keep going and keep going
okay recognize it within yourself these
are such simple things such simple
things that that truly changed my life
remember I was in my fitness industry
era during that time I was teaching spin
classes I was a personal trainer I was
living that full life and so I took
everything that I knew about getting
consistent about getting results about
training people and I put it into my
time with God in his word I'm telling
you I trained myself to read the Bible I
trained myself to get consistent in it
to this very day every single night I
still spend my time with God every
morning um in the Bible every single
night to this day I have a full cup of
water that I set with my Bible before I
go to bed so that I don't even have to
go to the kitchen in the morning I don't
even have to that's just like what do we
teach clients when we're in the fitness
industry hey set your shoes and your
clothes out the night before so in the
morning there's no excuses you grab your
stuff and you get to the gym you grab
your stuff and you're ready to go for
your workout you prep your meals so you
know what you're going to have ahead of
time there's no reason to go all
willy-nilly with it okay I trained
myself and I started to see the results
and so then I kept going and I kept
going and I kept going and I kept going
because that's what happens our body
being in that industry our bodies are
really smart but they're also a little
bit not so smart like our bodies crave
what we feed them right if I eat an
apple every day for a month I start to
Crave apples but if I eat a bag of chips
or some candy or steak even every day
steak I don't know I haven't eaten red
meat since 1997 but candy chips we start
to Crave that whatever we feed ourselves
you probably know it with coffee
caffeine of some sort you start to Crave
that and your body needs it how about
our spirit the more you can put this in
you actually start to Crave it the first
time I went on a trip and took my
physical Bible with me was like this
moment that I was so proud of myself but
it was a game Cher for everything it was
like I knew I was craving that in the
morning and my phone and an app just
wasn't going to cut it because I had set
this time apart I had set this time
apart and having this physical Bible in
my hand made different than everything
else that I do look it doesn't have to
be an hour it doesn't have to be a lot I
want to help you to get consistent so
get consistent with what you can do I'm
not going to give you a time frame
relationships don't work well on time
frames tasks do this isn't a task start
with relationship I don't care if it's
four minutes or if it's 17 minutes just
get rid of the timer that's not for
relationship start with relationship set
it apart set it apart from everything
else whether it's the space that you go
to or the time okay Stack The Habit
Stack The Habit and see the results one
last thing if you're really trying to
build the Habit with this remember that
relationships are not Monday to
Friday relationships are not Monday to
Friday we work really well on Monday to
Friday routines sometimes and schedules
relationships are not Monday to Friday
so when I tell you to create this habit
choose a space and choose a Time then go
there every single day obviously give
yourself Grace go there every single day
choose a space and choose a time and it
doesn't have to be that forever but in
order to get to consistency so that you
can keep consistency same time same
place every day same time same place
every day I truly hope that this
encourages you I've got other videos to
help you choose your best translation of
the Bible for you that you can make an
educated decision for you and other ones
to help you hear from God in your life
and so much more and bible studies
coming for you so make sure that you
subscribe but before I go let me just
pray over you God I just thank you I
thank you for who you are I thank you
for your goodness your mercy your grace
God I thank you for your word that you
have given us your word that we can
thousands of years later hear your voice
through these pages I thank you God I
pray over the one listening God I pray
that you are opening their eyes and
their ears their heart and their mind to
receive what you have to say for them
today and to say to them today I thank
you God God I pray that this will
encourage them to dig deeper into that
consistency in your word God lead them
lead them in their lives as they go we
do this All For Your Glory in Jesus name
amen
