During the reign of King Purnawarman, Tarumanegara experienced its golden era. In 397 AD, the kingdom established a new capital, Sunda Pura, marking the origin of the term 'Sunda' for West Java. Purnawarman initiated large projects like the excavation of the 12 km Gomati River, vital for trade and water supply. He expanded Tarumanegara's territory across most of West Java, including cities like Cirebon, Bogor, and Jakarta. His diplomatic skills fostered strong trade ties with China. Under his leadership, Hinduism flourished, and he conducted significant rituals, including the offering of 1,000 cows to Brahma as recorded in the Tugu inscription.
