Transcripts
or this money revised works are said to
give off a ghostly underworldly error
for his upcoming Art in the Park special
exhibit in Makati that's because this is
a series painted on daibon aluminum
found out more from Manny himself right
here on the final word Manny uh great to
have you on the program thank you so
much for joining us
oh thank you for having me
you will be showcasing about four of
your works at Art in the Park uh what is
the inspiration and influence Behind
these uh body of works
uh I don't know
um I just
I I normally just keep working so I I
don't know what the inspiration means
actually it's I I'm driven by a
compulsion another almost on a daily
basis so uh
and and I I think part of what I always
do is I try to explore
um different formats uh so this time uh
the the uh exploration into uh to me uh
it's not new anymore to others but it to
me it's a new uh material what is the
bond aluminum what is this medium that
you're using for this body of work a a
couple of yeah it's just like a a PVC uh
uh sheet that's uh sandwiched by two
aluminum uh
sheets so that's basically it but it's a
very durable material uh it's usually
used in
um
was this uh directional or regulatory
science in the street
and uh tell us more about tatag I mean
one of the featured works in your Art in
the Park exhibit uh what this is
reference to
uh well basically these are types uh
you know uh people
um who tatag is just one of the uh works
and I I I like to deal with images that
uh seem to uh convey more than just the
image of the face or the features of the
face but something uh
evocative of uh you know a general Human
Condition
so it's like uh Tata could be a a a
sense of being
uh firmly settled
and yet uh
very much uh deep in thought uh whatever
it is that uh preoccupying the person at
the moment
solid grounded and uh money you are an
expressionist figurative style type of
artists and your works are focused on
social and political subjects do you use
your art to awaken the minds of our
kababayans the realities of life and
empowering them that there can be
changed
uh most of the time I suppose but maybe
not all the time so I sometimes I just
work without
with without really thinking of those
things too much uh you know like I said
I I
um my main Drive is a sense of
compulsion that I just need to do
something for the day
and um
sometimes you're thinking of wanting to
connect in concrete terms and conveying
some very uh clear ideas or narrative uh
but oftentimes uh you just allow the
flow to take over and just uh see where
it takes you
you know so the the the the the process
varies so uh I I may have made in kind
of an impression uh on the General in a
general way uh that my works are
expressionistic and dealing with social
realities
um but sometimes you can take the
discourse uh in forms that do not
necessarily uh reflect those
uh issues directly in the forms that you
see and the money uh many Filipino
artists have made great strides
showcasing their art in the global
platform in many cities around the world
from Paris to Milan to New York
and also here in Singapore in Hong Kong
are we really making inroads that
Filipino art
are collected by International
collectors or our Filipino artists
are predominantly being collected by
just local collectors Filipino
collectors
oh uh I don't know much about that part
because like the market although I'm I'm
grateful uh of getting receptivity in
the market
uh but it's not something that I really
uh give much attention to uh so I I do
hear uh stories like
um in spite of the uh many uh exposure
exhibitions that Filipino artists do uh
uh overseas uh that uh largely the
market remains uh local so uh but I mean
to me it's not really something that
um I give much thought about
all right Art in the Park is this coming
Sunday uh March 19th from 10 a.m until
10 p.m so what time can collectors see
you at Art in the Park
what time will you be there
uh well uh I'd most likely be there in
the afternoon when it's cooler
and of course I'll be coming from uh the
Groupon so uh it might take a while for
me to get there so it might be you know
but yeah I'm definitely coming looking
forward to seeing you in the afternoon
of Sunday March 19 at Art in the Park
