play00:00

good morning good afternoon and good

play00:02

evening folks hey welcome to another

play00:04

episode of the marketing your practice

play00:06

podcast the podcast where I get to

play00:07

simplify the marketing and the mindset

play00:09

so you the caropractor can increase your

play00:11

income your impact and your enjoyment in

play00:13

practice too in today's episode we're

play00:15

going to be talking about a topic that

play00:17

has a lot of chiropractors very excited

play00:19

many chiropractors feeling nervous and

play00:23

some chiropractors feeling

play00:24

understandably terrified I'm going to be

play00:27

talking about the future of AI in kir

play00:29

practic and I I'm going to be talking

play00:30

about chat GPT now if you have no idea

play00:33

what I'm talking about with regards to

play00:35

chat

play00:36

GPT um be prepared to have your mind

play00:39

blown this episode as well it's no

play00:41

secret that AI artificial intelligence

play00:45

has the potential to completely

play00:47

transform the way we do things as

play00:50

chiropractice um it'll have an impact on

play00:52

things like diagnosis treatment planning

play00:55

personalized care plans patient outcomes

play00:58

and certainly can have a huge and will

play01:00

have a huge impact on the way that we

play01:02

Market our practice I'm going to talk

play01:03

about uh a lot of those we'll go into

play01:05

great detail of that as we go forwards

play01:07

as well but as with any technology as

play01:09

well there are a whole bunch of really

play01:11

important ethical and philosophical

play01:13

considerations as well I'll give you my

play01:15

kind of two cents and all of those now

play01:18

let's kind of rewind back to the

play01:20

beginning of December I was online

play01:23

scrolling through a couple of people I

play01:25

were following I noticed there was a

play01:26

whole bunch of conversations in around

play01:28

this chat GP te now the GPT stands for

play01:31

generative pre-trained Transformer and

play01:35

so I signed up to this platform um it

play01:38

was introduced or opened to us um uh in

play01:41

November 30th I think it was it's the

play01:44

fastest platform in history to ever get

play01:45

to a million users it did it uh in less

play01:48

than five days something like that

play01:49

faster than anything else as well so I

play01:52

then had my mind blown in a way with

play01:55

technology that I don't think I ever

play01:57

have now I've I've gone through you know

play02:00

I went through school and there was no

play02:01

internet no email and so it seemed that

play02:04

the introduction of these things were

play02:06

very slow you know I was impressed with

play02:08

iPhone one um but I mean if the iPhone

play02:12

14 is what dropped on me it chat GPT

play02:15

which is an artificial intelligence

play02:17

still now a month later my mind is still

play02:19

reeling from what's going on so what is

play02:21

chat GPT let's start with that first of

play02:23

all okay so as I mentioned the GPT

play02:25

stands for a generative pre-trained

play02:27

Transformer in essence what it is is

play02:30

it's really a chatbot that's powered by

play02:32

artificial intelligence what this

play02:35

chatbot has done is it has access to

play02:38

literally all the written text that's

play02:41

ever been entered into the internet and

play02:44

it has spent time analyzing that and you

play02:47

can have conversations with this chatbot

play02:49

about anything from how do I improve my

play02:51

relationship how do I get more fit to

play02:53

how do I Market my practice to how do I

play02:55

come up with content we'll talk about

play02:57

that in a moment okay so it's a machine

play02:59

Lear learning model that uses uh a

play03:02

technique called Transformer to process

play03:04

and analyze data okay it's designed to

play03:07

create text in a coherent almost

play03:09

conversational way so you can have a

play03:11

conversation with this chatbot and it is

play03:14

remarkable um how indistinct it is from

play03:17

actually chatting to another person and

play03:19

that is both wonderful and terrifying as

play03:22

well so at this stage it's just a text

play03:25

conversation that you're having back and

play03:27

forward so let's take one step back up a

play03:30

little higher and talk about what what

play03:31

do they mean by artificial intelligence

play03:33

I've been doing a lot of research on

play03:35

this as well this is in essence the

play03:37

ability for computers to be able to do

play03:40

things that would normally require human

play03:42

intelligence would normally require

play03:44

learning problem solving and decision

play03:46

making okay there are three types of

play03:49

artificial intelligence generally they

play03:50

talk about these are rule-based AIS okay

play03:53

now these are the very most basic forms

play03:55

but they just kind of follow rules more

play03:57

there's machine learning this type of

play03:59

Art icial intelligence uses algorithms

play04:02

now maybe we could say that um the

play04:06

algorithms that are on both Facebook and

play04:07

social media YouTube that this isn't a

play04:10

kind of artificial intelligence and then

play04:13

there's been this third type which is

play04:15

what we've been waiting for some people

play04:16

have been concerned about others are

play04:18

very excited about which is referred to

play04:19

as like a deep learning this deep

play04:22

learning type of artificial intelligence

play04:24

involves the use of very very complex

play04:26

neural networks for it to process and

play04:29

analyze data okay so chat GPT would

play04:32

definitely come under the umbrella of

play04:33

this deep learning okay

play04:35

so how could we be using or how it's

play04:39

probably not how could be it really is

play04:41

how will we be using artificial

play04:43

intelligence in the future um as

play04:46

chiropract as well I think there are

play04:47

many let me go over a couple of

play04:48

different areas that we could be using

play04:50

it it's already and we'll certainly be

play04:52

using it in diagnosis and Care planning

play04:55

there's no doubt about that too so the

play04:57

AI algorithms could be looking at

play04:59

posture could be looking at range of

play05:01

motion they will absolutely be helping

play05:03

to analyze x-rays we'll be able to feed

play05:05

in information complex information about

play05:08

the person's lifestyle um their history

play05:11

which will then be able to direct us for

play05:12

the best way for us to Care with this

play05:14

person I think in the future we'll be

play05:15

able to answer questions like what

play05:17

technique is best how often is it best

play05:20

for us to be actually caring for these

play05:21

patients it will be fascinating to see

play05:25

what role this has on Diagnostic and

play05:27

Care planning obviously it with regards

play05:30

to even further personalizing our care

play05:32

for it to be producing exercise plans

play05:34

nutrition plans Stress Management plans

play05:37

all those adjunctive things that so many

play05:40

of us particularly vitalistic lifestyle

play05:42

chiropractors that were wanting to have

play05:45

tools that might support them in their

play05:47

care once we plugged in all the

play05:49

information about the patient we could

play05:52

then say Hey listen can you please

play05:53

produced for me um an eating plan for

play05:56

this person uh and by the way they don't

play05:58

like uh bre bread or they don't like uh

play06:01

beef and it would come up with a you

play06:03

know 7-Day 30-day treatment sorry eating

play06:06

plan for this person then you could

play06:07

break that down into meal options and

play06:09

then how to go about cooking it and then

play06:11

we could even at the end of it produce

play06:13

uh a shopping list but I I'll I'll talk

play06:14

more about some of my experiences with

play06:16

it uh going forwards also so it'll

play06:19

absolutely help with administrative

play06:20

tasks so Google has already released

play06:23

footage of its AI amazingly this was

play06:26

right back in

play06:28

2018 where it's artificial intelligence

play06:30

its chatbot which also had a voice was

play06:33

able to speak in a voice that sounded

play06:35

nothing like a computer at all rang up a

play06:37

hairdresser and made an appointment and

play06:39

so it carried on a conversation back and

play06:40

forward so it comes uh easy to imagine

play06:44

that we could be using this sort of

play06:47

artificial intelligence chat bot

play06:48

certainly to have text conversations

play06:50

with our patients and to make

play06:52

appointments with them but even voice

play06:54

conversations in the future for us to

play06:55

make appointments with them also so

play06:57

there be a whole bunch of administ ative

play07:00

tasks that we'll be able to uh use

play07:03

artificial intelligence with even things

play07:05

like um our case notes where it could be

play07:08

listening into the conversation that

play07:09

we're having with our patients and then

play07:11

create a whole bunch of case notes so

play07:13

the ability for it to approve efficiency

play07:16

in practice and have us doing the things

play07:18

that we want to be doing which is

play07:19

adjusting our patients and interacting

play07:21

and building relationships with them and

play07:23

all of those outside things to move them

play07:25

to the side the ability for that future

play07:27

to come we're getting closer and closer

play07:28

to now don't give me wrong wrong I'm

play07:29

going to talk about the ethical

play07:30

considerations and the philosophical

play07:32

challenges that might come around with

play07:33

this as well but these are sort of areas

play07:36

that you know absolutely it could be

play07:38

used in fact let let's talk about some

play07:39

of the ethical considerations as well so

play07:41

obviously there's things like the big

play07:43

ones of patient privacy and consent so

play07:45

just knowing that if we're going to be

play07:47

feeding their information into some kind

play07:49

of chatbot artificial intelligence would

play07:52

you want that happening you know it

play07:54

would need to be deidentified and all

play07:55

those type of things that we have

play07:57

compliance issues even now with regards

play07:59

to how we're dealing with patient notes

play08:01

um how we're storing data all of those

play08:03

things will need to be part of it but we

play08:05

need to ensure that we're complying with

play08:06

all of that and these rules haven't even

play08:08

been written yet so it's hard to know

play08:09

what's going on accuracy and fairness so

play08:12

we have to assume because at the moment

play08:15

chat GPT this thing that I'm having

play08:17

conversations with and asking questions

play08:19

it's not always right and there might be

play08:21

a time in the future that you know if it

play08:23

misses a diagnosis it misses something

play08:25

on x-ray who's going to be held

play08:28

accountable from that from a male

play08:29

practice point of view are the

play08:31

recommendations going to be accurate can

play08:34

you is there an algorithm that you can

play08:36

bring all of these things together to

play08:38

understand the human condition as well

play08:40

so these are something for us to think

play08:42

about transparency as well so if I'm

play08:45

creating a care plan that's um derived

play08:48

from AI do I need to tell my patients

play08:50

about that do I want my care plan uh

play08:52

coming from AI do I want my adjustment

play08:55

schedule coming from that or do I want

play08:57

it coming from the chiropractor and if

play08:58

you the chiropractor are using that as a

play09:01

tool do you need to let your patients

play09:02

know and of course one of the ethical

play09:04

concerns is just the impact on

play09:06

employment because potentially this can

play09:09

take the role of a lot of your

play09:10

administrative staff if it can be making

play09:12

appointments if it can be reting if it

play09:15

can be having what seem like very

play09:16

real-time conversations these are a lot

play09:18

of the roles that are being done by a

play09:19

lot of our Chiropractic assistants our

play09:21

CA and so there are certainly some

play09:24

ethical concerns in around that as well

play09:26

let's talk about some of the

play09:27

philosophical concerns as well these get

play09:30

a little bit deeper and these are some

play09:32

of the areas where chiropractors in

play09:34

particular not just chiropractors but a

play09:37

lot of us are are becoming really

play09:38

nervous and some people terrified there

play09:41

is the potential the very very real

play09:43

potential that artificial intelligence

play09:45

will surpass in fact I don't think it's

play09:47

potential it's it's inevitable that the

play09:49

AI will surpass human intelligence and

play09:52

capabilities and so there are a number

play09:54

of people that are really concerned that

play09:56

as it gets more sophisticated as it

play09:58

bypasses our intelligence our abilities

play10:00

from there too that there will be a

play10:02

number of consequences with that such as

play10:05

the displacement of human workers the

play10:08

erosion of human autonomy um will these

play10:11

machines do they have the ability for

play10:13

empathy and compassion uh will what role

play10:16

will they see themselves in human

play10:18

society as well there is the use for if

play10:21

I'm taking all this information from

play10:23

artificial intelligence how do I know

play10:26

that it's not being malicious that it's

play10:27

not their we have seen for instance over

play10:31

the last number of years that there have

play10:33

been a number of accounts on Facebook

play10:36

that have been set up by different

play10:38

countries with the uh very uh goal of it

play10:42

creating tension between left and right

play10:45

A lot of these Russian sites that were

play10:47

set up particularly to start to create

play10:49

tension in amongst the left and right

play10:51

over in the US but you imagine that if

play10:53

someone was able to control the AI and

play10:55

it was feeding information out to

play10:57

billions of people that information was

play11:00

consciously wrong what kind of an impact

play11:03

might that have the ability therefore

play11:05

for AI to reinforce biases again this is

play11:09

something we saw biases happening a lot

play11:12

um with the pandemic and people who had

play11:14

different agendas and if they if we're

play11:16

getting information from this super

play11:19

commuter from this artificial

play11:21

intelligence who's to say that there are

play11:23

not government bodies that are putting

play11:25

biases inside of it that's incredibly

play11:28

concerning the lack of accountability

play11:30

that might happen for artificial

play11:32

intelligence as well so um again one of

play11:36

my concerns in around it as you'll see

play11:38

when we'll talk about how it could help

play11:39

you with um your marketing as well is

play11:43

the ability for it to create fake fake

play11:45

expertise so in the past beforehand if

play11:48

you were to create content if you were

play11:51

to position yourself as an authority

play11:52

with your community there had to be some

play11:54

substance behind it but if you were to

play11:57

just go on to chat GPT

play12:00

and ask it for uh to write an article

play12:03

for you about the relationship between

play12:05

posture and health and then for it to go

play12:08

through and create posture correction

play12:10

plans for you exercises lifestyling

play12:12

around it then all of a sudden without

play12:14

you having any background in that if

play12:16

you're not a chiropractor too it can

play12:18

position you as an authority if I think

play12:20

that you wrote this article when in

play12:21

actual fact you didn't write it you

play12:23

didn't plagiarize it as well but it has

play12:25

this ability for it to position you as a

play12:27

fake ex ex expert as well so there are a

play12:30

number of real philosophical concerns

play12:32

now maybe this is sounding for some of

play12:35

you a little depressing and overwhelming

play12:37

at the moment I don't know where it will

play12:39

go I I I've been thinking about this

play12:41

constantly for the last four to six

play12:42

weeks but there are a number of areas

play12:44

that I'm very very excited about it as

play12:46

well and I think particularly with

play12:47

regards to marketing with it helping you

play12:50

to increase your impact uh um increase

play12:53

your income and your enjoyment in

play12:55

practice there are several areas where

play12:56

it would be really helpful that so let's

play12:58

talk about given that this is a

play12:59

marketing podcast let's talk about how

play13:01

it can be helpful with that too one of

play13:03

the first things I did when I got on

play13:05

chat GPT is I said I'm wanting to create

play13:08

some articles in around post and copra

play13:11

can you please give me 10 video topics

play13:13

that I could create and unless than 15

play13:16

seconds it created 10 video topics that

play13:19

were fabulous now I've had 25 years as a

play13:23

chiropractor I've had 15 years as a

play13:26

content creator particularly in around

play13:27

video I have an area of expertising

play13:29

around this and all 10 of these videos

play13:31

were beautifully created in terms of

play13:33

topic and ideas I then grabbed one of

play13:36

those topics from there too I said can

play13:37

you write me a video script and the

play13:39

video script it created was damn near

play13:42

perfect I my jaw nearly hit the floor

play13:46

when I read it a wonderful powerful and

play13:48

engaging introduction uh the body part

play13:51

of it was interesting great bullet

play13:53

points that were accurate for what I

play13:54

know as a chiropractor the advice was

play13:57

wonderful and the conclusion at the end

play13:59

and I looked at this one of the

play14:01

challenges that so many of you share

play14:03

with me about social media about

play14:06

marketing is coming up with content

play14:08

creation chat GPT has now solved that

play14:11

problem for you this is not a problem

play14:13

for you anymore because within a matter

play14:14

of moments I had 10 video ideas and

play14:18

video scripts in them that even if you

play14:20

changed none of it these videos would be

play14:22

great now we'll talk about why you might

play14:23

want to subtly change some of it as well

play14:27

but content creation and issues in

play14:28

around content creation is is something

play14:31

of the past but you could also along

play14:33

with that too it goes a step further

play14:35

because it would allow you to optimize

play14:38

again when you are telling uh the chat

play14:42

GPT who your patients are it will know

play14:45

when they're online it'll be able to

play14:47

optimize when you post what you post

play14:49

about it'll allow you to create

play14:51

descriptions for your posts that go

play14:53

along with everything that is tailored

play14:55

for you to reach the type of person that

play14:56

you want to reach the AL algorithms and

play14:59

inside of these AIS eventually what

play15:02

they'll be able to do and probably can

play15:03

do it right now is analyze the people

play15:07

that you're already looking after it

play15:09

will therefore be able to tell you what

play15:10

sort of content to create for them it

play15:13

will then create the scripts for that

play15:16

again for blog posts for videos and

play15:18

again many of these artificial

play15:19

intelligence uh learning machines can

play15:21

also create images for you it will also

play15:25

be able to tell you how to respond for

play15:27

any questions comments or even any

play15:30

trolls that might be reaching out to you

play15:32

the area that I can see it most is when

play15:35

you're wanting to put together marketing

play15:36

plans content creation plans this

play15:38

continues to blow my mind I had a

play15:40

coaching client this morning I was

play15:41

dealing with who does really wonderful

play15:44

work with women who are suffering from

play15:46

fatigue and we said can you come up with

play15:48

10 video ideas please um particularly

play15:51

with regards to fatigue and functional

play15:53

medicine came up with 10 video ideas we

play15:55

grabbed one of those ideas there too

play15:57

which was related particularly to low

play15:59

thyroid and adrenal issues and we said

play16:01

can you create a video script for that

play16:03

it created a video script um that was

play16:06

wonderful after that one of the things

play16:08

it talked about in the video script is

play16:10

the importance of proper nutrition and

play16:12

managing low thyroid issues um and

play16:16

adrenal issues there as well then after

play16:18

that I said can you please put together

play16:19

an eating plan how somebody should eat a

play16:22

video with regards to that it then

play16:23

created an eating plan I then said after

play16:26

that can you please create a 7-Day

play16:28

recipe plan is so not only did it create

play16:30

the recipes all of this Focus towards

play16:32

people with thyroid issues and adrenal

play16:34

issues it created the recipe is from

play16:36

that to and then also the cooking

play16:38

instructions and then finally at the end

play16:40

of it I said can you please create for

play16:41

me a shopping list so next it printed

play16:44

out a shopping list as a list there of

play16:46

everything I would need to buy if I

play16:48

wanted to cook those meals and the

play16:49

instructions there as well that would

play16:51

help me manage from a nutritional point

play16:53

of view my low thyroid and adrenal

play16:56

issues all of this happened in under 5

play16:59

minutes and almost all of it was the

play17:03

accuracy level of it was you know almost

play17:06

100% if you made no changes it would

play17:08

have been wonderful content but again

play17:10

you could have put specifics in there if

play17:12

you had a patient for instance that

play17:13

didn't like salmon they talking about

play17:14

getting good quality fats in there you

play17:16

could say create me a seven meal meal

play17:18

plan for somebody with thyroid and

play17:20

adrenal issues but they don't like

play17:22

salmon is able to do all of that so from

play17:24

a Content creation point of view it's

play17:27

stunning now I think this is going to

play17:29

I've always found once you really

play17:32

understand the person that you're

play17:33

wanting to reach out and build

play17:34

relationships with in your community

play17:36

actually coming up with content is very

play17:38

easy I'm looking forwards to the

play17:39

conversations I have with chiroprac is

play17:41

going forwards because one of the

play17:42

excuses for them not being on social

play17:44

media and particularly one of the

play17:45

excuses for them not creating uh videos

play17:48

is that we use the safe excuse of I

play17:51

don't know what content to create

play17:53

because they therefore don't have to

play17:55

share the vulnerability that's really

play17:57

what's underneath it is I'm scared

play17:58

scared of being on camera I'm scared of

play18:00

being rejected and I'm scared of failing

play18:03

but it's much safer and much less

play18:04

vulnerable for you to say I don't know

play18:06

what content to create but like many

play18:08

things myself included when one excuse

play18:10

is taken away from us then maybe we'll

play18:12

come up um with another so in summary

play18:16

let's talk about a few of these things

play18:18

um if you haven't had a play with chat

play18:20

GPT then set up a free account this is

play18:23

the first time in history that a free

play18:26

tool has been made available to the

play18:28

general en public and there are a number

play18:30

of things I I'm putting in all different

play18:33

conversations with you know what things

play18:36

can I do to better connect with my kids

play18:38

what things can I do to improve my

play18:39

marriage what things can I do to uh uh

play18:42

grow my business and the answers that

play18:45

come back the vast majority of things

play18:47

are are just nothing short of absolute

play18:50

mindblowing as well so there are some

play18:53

downsides with using it as a marketing

play18:56

tool I want to talk about these as well

play18:58

the it would appear that Google at this

play19:00

stage can actually recognize and is more

play19:02

likely to recognize whether content is

play19:04

Created from AI or whether it's created

play19:07

from us now there is some indication

play19:10

that they may penalize content that is

play19:12

AI generated which I find interesting

play19:14

because ultimately the AI generated

play19:17

content is likely to be more accurate

play19:19

more easy to read um uh better at doing

play19:22

the job that it's wanting to do than the

play19:23

content that we create so why Google

play19:25

would penalize it I'm not sure but

play19:27

they're saying at this stage that's

play19:29

something that they were doing so if

play19:30

you're wanting to create all this

play19:31

content blog post and all of a sudden

play19:33

start whacking them on your website you

play19:35

might want to think twice about that you

play19:37

might want to say okay I'm GNA use this

play19:39

as a guide for me and I'm gonna use this

play19:42

as a guide and then I'm going to tweak

play19:43

it and I'm G to add my voice to it I'm

play19:45

going to add uh my personality to it

play19:47

that's certainly how I'm encouraging

play19:49

community influencer members to be doing

play19:51

so the content that comes from here

play19:54

lacks and may lack um creativity and

play19:57

certainly will lack originality I'm also

play19:59

not certain that if I ask a question and

play20:02

then you ask the same question sometime

play20:04

afterwards we get the same answer and so

play20:06

therefore will we have all the same

play20:07

content on everybody's site and again if

play20:09

we have all the same content on

play20:10

everybody's site then it loses that

play20:13

Authority and that originality that

play20:14

comes as well there is a lack of

play20:17

personal touch and human connection the

play20:19

more that I'm looking at these answers

play20:21

from the AI chatbot the more I can see a

play20:24

formula to it and I wonder whether we

play20:25

might start to recognize this formula

play20:29

there is also again one of the downsides

play20:31

of having it create your content is for

play20:33

its potential to spread misinformation

play20:35

if you're not reading through the

play20:38

recommendations if you if you don't

play20:39

already know the topic and you're

play20:41

putting together eating plans Stress

play20:42

Management plans mindfulness plans

play20:45

chiropractic care plans and you're not

play20:46

reading and reviewing this there is the

play20:48

potential for this to spread

play20:49

misinformation and for it to cause more

play20:51

harm than good so these are all things

play20:52

that you want to keep in mind however my

play20:56

encouragement for you is to get and have

play20:58

a play with this and use it as an

play21:01

inspiration use it as a tool that not

play21:03

that guides you there are many

play21:05

businesses at the moment that are using

play21:07

this and it's saving them hours creating

play21:09

plans beforehand that might have taken

play21:11

them days that they can do in 30 minutes

play21:13

and we can get back to doing the work

play21:14

that we want to do which is adjusting

play21:15

our patience is being with them is

play21:17

connecting with people and some of these

play21:20

tasks like some of the marketing and the

play21:22

content creation stuff that has taken

play21:24

hours we can use this to guide us going

play21:26

forward so where to from here have a

play21:29

play with it okay slowly remember this

play21:32

is a tool this is not something that's

play21:33

going to do everything for you we've

play21:35

covered a fair bit today what is um

play21:37

artificial intelligence what is chat GPT

play21:40

what are some of the philosophical and

play21:42

ethical uh dilemmas that go along with

play21:44

it how we we be using it not only in

play21:46

content creating but using it to guide

play21:48

our care plans using it to di guide out

play21:51

our diagnostic skills as well as a lot

play21:54

of the marketing as well but it's very

play21:56

clear that AI has the potential to

play21:58

enhance um and improve the outcomes that

play22:01

we get uh with our patients and the way

play22:04

that we connect with our community as

play22:06

well but it's also really important to

play22:07

remember that this is just a tool this

play22:09

is not a replacement for the expertise

play22:12

that we have as uh practitioners as

play22:15

human beings As Leaders inside our

play22:17

community I'm sure that we will be

play22:19

having lots and lots of conversations

play22:21

around Ai and in particular chat GPT as

play22:25

the year goes on and as we get into

play22:27

version two and version three and

play22:29

version four I'd love to know your

play22:31

thoughts around this and are you using

play22:33

it how are you using it what results are

play22:35

you getting from here too so perhaps

play22:37

reach out to me whether it be on the

play22:39

socials tell me your thoughts or maybe
