hi everyone this is dom designs here backĀ with a new adobe illustrator tutorial videoĀ Ā
in today's video i will show you how toĀ take a sketch i made of a slice of pizzaĀ Ā
and turn it into a beautiful and vibrant vectorĀ illustration in adobe illustrator if you're newĀ Ā
to the channel and you're interested in adobeĀ illustrator drawing tutorials and process videosĀ Ā
then please consider subscribing to my channelĀ and hit that bell icon so you never miss an uploadĀ Ā
so let's dig into this illustrator tutorialĀ Ā
firstly i try to always start planning outĀ my drawings by creating some rough sketchesĀ Ā
here you'll see me draw out that sliceĀ of pizza on a piece of paper with a
pencil i then took a picture with myĀ phone and transferred it to my computerĀ Ā
then place the image using the placement optionĀ which is command shift p on your keyboard on anĀ Ā
empty 1920x1080p canvas in adobe illustrator ourĀ next step is to turn this image into a templateĀ Ā
by double clicking on the layers panel icon itĀ will open up a box where you will be given theĀ Ā
option to turn on the template mode thisĀ automatically dims down our image by 50Ā Ā
and it also locks it down i'll then create aĀ new layer and name it artwork this is whereĀ Ā
the outline of our pizza will be using a dark redĀ color as our outline at a 10 points thickness weĀ Ā
will draw our outline of the pizza let's trace outĀ our image using the pen tool p on your keyboardĀ Ā
don't be afraid to go back and restartĀ or fix your curves along the way
using this method you will notice we have a lotĀ of overlapping lines we will take care of thoseĀ Ā
in a little bit what i'd like to do next is toĀ taper in some lines using one of my favorite toolsĀ Ā
the width tool the width tool can be foundĀ on your panel to the left or you can justĀ Ā
use shift w on your keyboard by clicking andĀ dragging you can see that i can make the endĀ Ā
of the stroke thinner or thicker so i'll go aheadĀ and do all the lines i think would need tapering
now that we're done with that let's clean upĀ and get rid of all the lines we don't needĀ Ā
by using the shape builderĀ we can also select strokesĀ Ā
so holding down the option key on your keyboard weĀ will be able to delete the strokes we don't wantĀ Ā
also let's remove the round capĀ on some of these strokes as well
so let's do this exact processĀ for the crust of our pizzaĀ Ā
awesome now that we have theĀ base of the pizza completedĀ Ā
let's add some color to it let's create a newĀ layer and name it color so what we want is toĀ Ā
add color to our illustration below the outlineĀ layer so what i'll do is select the outlineĀ Ā
and copy and paste it in back i'll then go to theĀ layers panel and drag that little red square onĀ Ā
our artwork layer down to the color layer sinceĀ our original drawing was composed of lines onlyĀ Ā
we would need to separate the pizza into shapesĀ so let's take out our handy shape builder tool toĀ Ā
help us out i'll select the whole illustrationĀ on our color layer and go to our shape builderĀ Ā
let's click on the crust and the middle partĀ of the pizza now this will separate our shapesĀ Ā
into two we can then select them and remove theĀ stroke and add some fill using our dom designsĀ Ā
master color palette let's give the cheese aĀ nice saturated yellow and the crust a brownishĀ Ā
tone turning off our color layer so that weĀ can see our template let's draw our toppingsĀ Ā
to make things more organized i'll createĀ a third layer on top and name it toppings
so for the color of the pepperoni i do a copy andĀ paste in back of the original stroke and invertĀ Ā
the stroke to fill now let's give this a nice redĀ color now let's add some details to it let's do aĀ Ā
copy and paste in front of the color then i'llĀ drag a third copy holding option on a keyboardĀ Ā
using the shape builder tool let'sĀ delete the parts that we don't wantĀ Ā
and then create our shadow i like to use aĀ darker red and then bring down the opacityĀ Ā
this allows my drawing to be evenly saturatedĀ let's now give it some detail going to ourĀ Ā
object panel go down to path and then offsetĀ path let's bring the offset down a littleĀ Ā
and click on ok next we will bring down theĀ stroke width as you can see we have a shapeĀ Ā
that fits into our pepperoni i'll thenĀ cut it in half and taper off the strokes
i'll finish this off by adding a few more details
next i'll add extra toppings to the
pizza
now we will add some shadows to our pizzaĀ Ā
on our color layer using the pen tool i'llĀ draw out where i want the shadow to beĀ Ā
then using the shape builder tool we will selectĀ all and delete the shapes that we don't need
i'll do the same process forĀ the remainder of our pizza
ah
awesome this looks tastyĀ Ā
finally we will complete our illustrationĀ by adding the bubble with the heart icon
so
and to end things off let's add a niceĀ background and shadow underneath the pizzaĀ Ā
and there you have it how to takeĀ your pencil sketch of a pizza andĀ Ā
turn it into a vector illustration in adobeĀ illustrator i hope you enjoyed the video andĀ Ā
let me know if my tutorial was helpful forĀ you thank you and see you next time everyone
