And basically, I do all their social media,
any kind of digital marketing, traditional marketing.
I don't have much of a routine other
than I go to get coffee every morning.

Good morning, April.
Are we all ready for the pantry?
Yes.
Great.
The tasks I do every day are really
marketing and volunteer-focused.
Checking email, posting to social media,
answering any phone calls that come in,
and ensuring that we have enough volunteers for the day
to work in the kitchen.
So when I come in, I have a daily routine I do.
I always check emails, phone any phone messages
I had the night before, and then I
have to do my social media post.
And today we actually have an event we're doing,
the pantry pickup, so I do have to do a post immediately.
So to upload our social media I use Hootsuite,
but I premade a post, I just have to upload it.
And it's going out into the social media world.
And here is how I tell if it was posted.
And so it is up.
So I just made a post for the pantry box pick up.
The main reason why I post this is
because some of times our guests forget that it's today,
and we just want to remind them so that they do come and get
their pantry boxes as much needed.
The other goal is to make sure that the community is aware
that is a service that we offer once a month.
So it's 10:00 AM, we're doing a pantry today.
We have 15 people picking up.
One person has already been here, which is great.
So my job is really to make sure that this goes smoothly today.

So a big part of my day is working on a social media
calendar.
I use Google Calendars for it.
And all I do is I schedule a post.
The one I have next is the air show, which
is coming here in two weeks.
We are selling tickets, and we get proceeds
from those tickets.
So yesterday, I actually made the post in Canva.
It lets you schedule Instagram and Facebook.
Just says, "Last day to purchase tickets."
I will schedule that one for the 2nd of June.
And so I go here, you see all of our scheduled posts,
and there you go.
So now I'm doing a brainstorming session
for our podcast, "10 Questions At A Table,"
with executive director, TJ.
So we started our podcast in February of this past year.
We thought it's a good way, one, to get the message out
even further, but also to reach a new audience.
It really is a great platform for the younger generation
that we have, being in a college town, for them to listen to us
and get involved in not just volunteering,
but also to come down and get meals too if they need it.
So I came up with some questions.
How do they think hunger affects the LGBTQ community?
Yeah, that would be a good one to help
us get that information so we can even
know for ourselves too.
And the last one, we always ask this

So marketing for a non-profit is quite
different from a for profit.
One, we have more regulation from the government.
And we have to watch what we post, what we use in marketing,
we can't do anything controversial or political.
Also we have a direct mission, we're not necessarily
selling commerce.
Yes, we do want some fundraising money and donations.
It's more important that we get the word out.
So part of being a marketing professional
is to keep up with all the digital trends,
especially in social media.
And I've been tasked with bringing
in a younger demographic, especially for volunteering.
So there's no better way to bring in a younger group
than to use TikTok.
My colleague here, Preston, definitely
knows how to use TikTok.
So I want him to show me some of the features,
and why we would use it for the community table.
I've heard that you can do like really silly, funny, like wigs,
and mustaches, and hats, and everything else on there.

are not everything.
Yes, they're important.
You definitely need to go to school
and learn the basics of marketing.
But you really have to be creative,
and you have to think outside the box
or you won't be successful.
And that's something they don't teach you.
You really have to have it in you.
