Transcripts
when I started flying fpv in 2015 it was
such an exciting magical time every week
there are brand new pilots coming out
with super unique fun content companies
were innovating in really cool ways and
the general Vibe was one of unlimited
potential contrast that today with
uninspired cookie cutter bind and fly
drones content creators only there to
sell you [ __ ] and a regulating
agency hellbent on stopping us in our
tracks as I look back on the past 7
years I have to ask myself what the
happened to
fpv
it honestly feels like there are more
fpv pilots now than ever it's not
uncommon to have my name yelled out of a
car window while I'm downtown and I
frequently receive messages from people
saying hey I just started flying fpv I'm
in Philadelphia let's hang out but with
all these new people and companies
joining fpv I still don't feel like
we're seeing as much Innovation as we
used to sure now we have HD zero on
walks snail to compete with DJI and
analog but if you do a search for fpv
drone the first results you're going to
see are the DJI potato and some shitty
bind andly C whoop now I am a fan of
cops but I bring this up to say with DJI
pushing the 03 on the community other
companies are forced to make 03 bind and
flies to appease a growing customer base
but the 03 doesn't really fit on
anything other than a 3-in c whoop and
it seems most companies are just fine
stealing each other's designs or designs
of hobbyists instead of putting any sort
of work in to make something unique I
highly doubt there's this huge demand
for Pavo Pico style quads oh my phone's
ringing I highly doubt there's this huge
demand for Pavo Pico style drones as I
know a lot of you would rather have
something that flies more like a
freestyle quad than a cine whoop a few
people have asked me when I'm going to
make a new motor and at this point in
the game I'm kind of like why why make a
new motor what can I add to the game
when everybody else out there is just
rebranding everybody else's [ __ ] or
making subpar products and attempting to
sway public opinion through marketing
campaigns 25% off side
why how about you spend that marketing
money or that five extra dollars you
charge because it has a pilot's name on
it and use that to make an actual good
product that'll speak for itself it is
super rewarding to build your own quad
or to be hyped on a new product or
technology that's coming out but
offering newcomers with the limited
options that we're seeing now is not
really true to the spirit of fpv this
has always been and will continue to be
a very very DIY hobby seeing the
influence of companies only here to make
a buck and not to progress to technology
worries me about the future of our Hobby
Sport there are still rad companies
though like wee bed fpv with their new
spiky whoop frame a lot of smaller is
making some killer 5-in frames and a RC
makes some of the most baller C whoops
you can get folks are still out here
innovating don't get me wrong I just see
a lot of companies taking the easy route
and making clones of other companies
drones that they see sell well and this
isn't really sustainable because
eventually you're going to end up with
an inbred AI abomination of a drone that
nobody asked
for with the rising popularity of fpv
what came along is what always comes
along the idiots as soon as a DJI potato
dropped every idiot with a Best Buy card
was out there flying over traffic and
running into buildings this obviously
puts us on blast with the FAA and the
regulations that so far had been a gray
area started turning into something more
concrete the FAA being part of the
government is completely out of touch
with a population in which it rolls over
in this case it started lumping
experienced self- policing DIY pilots in
with dangerous off-the-shelf crashing
ass chonies you can argue that
regulation would have come anyway but I
think we can all agree DJI making it
easy to pick up and send a drone 5 miles
away over a city instead of having to
build program and manually control your
own drone definitely sped up that
timeline as of right now the FAA has
pushed back remote ID three different
times they've released several
conflicting videos on which craft is
going to require a remote ID module
which only shows us they have no idea
what they're doing and they're waiting
for their corporate overlords to tell
them what to do if we give companies
like DJI the market share they're 100%
going to sell us out and you will not be
able to buy anything that's not
trackable by the government
if you look up fpv drone on YouTube the
first results you're going to see are a
whole bunch of DJI stuff and then after
you get past that it's only going to be
affiliate link Laden videos of people
trying to sell you [ __ ] bind and
flies there's no more art in fpv being
promoted to half of you even know who Ox
plumes is one of the most artistic
Pilots I've ever seen and if you don't
that's not on you that's on YouTube for
promoting the Endless Sea of affiliate
link ritten low effort content instead
of making you feel any other emotion
than opening up your wallet back in my
day we had Pilots like gapit that would
drop baller ass Innovative videos every
week with super good soundtracks because
they didn't care about monetization we
had iy making hilarious sketch comedy
videos we had people like Stinger swarm
teaching us how to do our rates in the
parking lot and it felt like a homie
just talking to you in your living room
and man this is going to sound weird
coming for me but BR a riot made good
videos back in the day they travel the
country they travel the world they put
effort into their ideas instead just
going through the motions as you see now
there is still some good content out
there but it seems like a lot of people
these days are so worried how they're
going to monetize their Channel they
don't realize they have to make actual
good content in the first place before
anybody's going to give a [ __ ] it is
interesting to see people [ __ ] about
low subscriber or view count when you
upload a 7-minute DVR video flying in
your backyard once a month like that
that's not going to cut it you know and
I'm aware everything goes in Cycles it
just seems like right now fpv is kind of
in the same state as the rest of the
world and it's starting to become a
hollow shell of what it once was new
people and companies not really giving a
[ __ ] and joining this community looking
for an easy way to make a buck or
exploit something thing others have
spent a lot of time and energy creating
if you build a community on a hollow
Foundation it's going to be really hard
to build it back up if it falls in this
case we have the FAA coming at us and a
major company ready to give us up and
sell us out to regulate us all to hell
as long as they can keep making money we
have more power than I think you all
realize we can control the direction of
our beloved hobby as we've done for
years with the companies you support DJI
is really popular since it's easy to get
going and they have a huge marketing
budget but companies like hd0 walk snail
any analog maker they they have it in
their best interest to fight for us and
keep the hobbyist fpv as restriction
free as possible so I say support the
companies that are making [ __ ] that we
want in in our hobby rather than the
companies that are dictating how we are
going to
fly I've been in fpv for about 7 years
now I've seen a lot of people in
companies come and go there's a lot of
people that I wish were still making
videos because they made really good
[ __ ] there's some folks I wish would
just throw in the towel but as is life
our hobbi very diverse and that's what
makes it great when you start shoving
everybody into a box literally and
metaphorically then you're really just
going to kill what made it special in
the first place it is cliche but
diversity is our strength there are some
incredibly talented people in fpv and I
just want to see everybody shine and
have fun and be the most creative they
can be this is a pretty futuristic Hobby
and along with that does come the
dystopia of the future but as people
have shown throughout history it is
pretty [ __ ] hard to break our spirit
and we will persevere no matter
what all right it's like 32 Dees outside
so I wanted to cheat this week and make
an inside video so I really appreciate
everybody watching that these are kind
of just my observations over the years I
wrote the script to this in one pass
while the smoking dab so I'm sure
there's a lot of [ __ ] in the comments
you can go and yell at me about if you'd
like to see me flying my drone inside of
the gaming convention illegally you can
totally watch this video right here I
also have a patreon speaking of
monetizing every aspect of your life
money me please give me money money me
all right everybody thank you very much
for watching that have a wonderful day I
promise next video will be outside go
make some content some good content okay
bye
