Transcripts
hi everyone welcome to or welcome back
to my channel so today I'm going to be
discussing the languages that I will not
be
learning and I will also talk about the
languages that I am on the fence about
on whether or not I should learn them at
some
point I have a lot of opinions about
what languages I will not be learning
and I will I will be explaining why I
will not be learning them I really like
learning languages as you can see by my
whole Channel but
there are just a couple languages that I
just don't think I will be able to learn
or I just don't find the motivation to
learn so let's get on to the video on
the languages that I will not be
learning so the first well the first
three are Japanese Chinese and
Korean I have attempted to learn
Japanese in the past and it was a fail
not because I was bad at it necessarily
but
because I just started uni and it was
it's a lot of it's a language that you
have to dedicate a lot of time to and
you have to yeah dedicate a lot of time
to like and I just felt like dedicating
so much time to a single language was
not useful for me was not what I wanted
to do I didn't want to spend 10 years
trying to get to a B2 level when I could
do that in four
for for another language so it just
wasn't it just wasn't for
me uh so yeah I just took too much of my
time and I do not really enjoy the
Japanese media that is available in
Spain or the UK okay so like not all
Japanese media just Japanese media that
is available to me I do not like it so
it was a waste of my
time it is the reason why I did want to
learn it though is because it's a very
interesting language and it was just
purely a
linguistic interest in the
language I I have immense respect for it
which is why I wanted to learn in the
first place I just again I just can't
justify dedicating so much of my time to
a language that I will never use because
I'm not planning on moving to Japan and
I don't really enjoy the media so it's
just it was not enough for me and it was
not good for me and I had the same
issues with Chinese and Korean uh then
the second language I'm going to just
put Japanese Chinese and Korean as like
first language even though there's three
very separate languages but because I
have the same reasoning it's like the
same exact same reasoning for the three
of them so it's just like the group of
languages the East Asian languages
basically so then um The Big Three East
Jan languages so then uh Italian so is
the second language I will not be
learning I already speak three romance
languages which are Spanish French and
Portuguese my Portuguese is very Rusty I
don't even know if I should be able to
say that I speak Portuguese at this
point but I think if I just knock down
like if I just sit down and do a little
bit of practice I'll get it right back
up to the point where I was in last year
so I think that will be fine
but uh Italian I tried to learn it when
I was younger but without much
commitment and or like
discipline I just don't have the
motivation or or the need really to
learn it I say this as if my flat made
isn't Italian but still I don't I don't
feel like I don't feel really motivated
to learn it and the third language is
Dutch I love the Netherlands I think
it's it's a beautiful beautiful country
but at this point in my life I don't
think they would learn Dutch because I
am learning German and I don't want to
mix two similar languages again which is
what I did with French and
Portuguese I also don't have much
interest in it in the sense that I don't
see myself living there or studying
about the Netherlands I say about the
Netherlands in the sense
that I do history so I don't see myself
studying Dutch history history and I
don't have a lot of cultural interest or
really know anyone I could speak Dutch
to so will personally not be of much use
to me but again disclaimer these are all
my personal opinions like these are not
like these are not generalizations on
the language this is not like me like
moralizing each language saying like oh
this is not useful whatever because it
is useful for a lot of people and you
know many milons of people speak these
languages like as a first language and
millions of people speak it as a second
language like it's not like they are
useful languages to
learn and you should you shouldn't view
language learning as useful or not
useful I personally do but it's not how
everybody else views it so yeah just
take everything with a pinch of Sal and
if you really want to learn this
language don't take
my personal motivations
we're not learning them seriously
basically and then the fourth yeah
fourth fourth language is
Basque this one breaks my heart a little
bit because I love this language so much
I think it's such a cool language but
it's just too difficult to learn it's
just too hard so in case you don't know
Basque is a language spoken in The
Basque Country which is both the region
in Spain and France so it's just it goes
like this basically in like the north of
Spain I'll put a I'll put a map so you
know where it's where it's spoken it
does not fall under the Indo European
language family so immediately very
interesting and its Origins are very
much unknown so it's such a mysterious
she's such a mysterious girl um and it's
a cool language because it has no
connections and due to the nature of the
language it's just very difficult to
learn
I am Spanish and Basque is one of the
co-official languages of Spain at this
point and my Bas friends have told me
that I should just not learn it because
unless you learn it as a kid it's just
too hard and some people like learn at
school don't really speak it outside the
classroom properly because a lot of
parents don't speak Basque and a lot of
like especially grandparents might not
speak Basque no a lot of parents don't
speak Basque grandparents I think will
speak
Basque uh because of Franco's very
discriminatory linguistic policies which
basically means that Basque was banned
for like 40 years which is
insane and so just many of my friends
have told me that they would just not
speak to me in
Basque because they don't associate me
with the language so it's hard for them
to like do that click in their brain and
be like Oh I'm speaking Basque to Flavia
whereas it's like
not it's just it's just it wouldn't be
like P nature to them and it would be
really hard for them to do that enough
so that it don't forget it because like
it is something it is a language that
you will forget like um my I have a
friend she was Basque she was she's
still alive she's Basque and she went to
study in the UK like she did an exchange
year in the UK
and she would tell me like I'm trying to
text my friends and bask and I can't
because like you just don't and she went
to a basque school so it's like it was
so it she was like I can't like it's I
struggle with it so much because I I'm
not using it normally she do doesn't
speak bask to her parents so it's just
it was just insane but yeah then the
fifth language I think it's fifth yeah
the fifth language and Final langage
language is
Turkish I just have very little interest
in learning Turkish if I'm honest
learning Turkish wheels are all over my
Instagram and I just don't have any
connection to the
language and do not feel like I would
find the motivation to learn it it's a
cool language because it's like a
agglomerative like bask
which I find to be really interesting
but apart from that there just aren't
that many things that push me to learn
about it and to learn it and to want to
study it but yeah and then finally like
this is like the actual finally the
languages I am on the fence about the
first one being
Arabic I think Arabic is such a
fascinating language I think it's so
cool I think it's such a pretty language
too both spoken and
written like I have a lot of interest in
learning Arabic but what dialect do I
pick that's the thing and it's because
again I'm Spanish so like it would make
more sense for me to learn morocc in
Arabic because like people that speak
Arabic in Spain tend to be Moroccan
because of
immigration
and but like that's such a different
dialect it's a very very different
dialect to all other Arabic dialects and
it just doesn't like it just be a bit
hard for me to then change dialect if I
wanted like the obvious like not the
obvious but what people tend to do is
learn Egyptian Arabic but I'm like when
am I going to go to Egypt like when am I
going to go to Egypt and so yeah like
Arabic it's like I really I really want
to learn it because I think it's such a
cool language but also like should I
should I not so yeah it's a bit it's
again I'm on the fence about it and then
the last one is Catalan Catalan is such
a cool language I love Catalan media I
love Catalonia like 10 out of
10 if I ever move to Catalonia I will
obviously learn castalon thing is
like there's a lot because I'm in Spain
there's a lot of Castle and TV shows
that are just
available um so that's
great and it came to a point when I was
younger that I could almost speak it cuz
I was listening to so much castle and
media like all the time that I could
basically speak it like not well at all
but like I could understand everything
they said like it's very it's very also
mutually intachable with Spanish
but yeah it was
just like it was it was such a fun time
but like that's a language I would like
to learn but I'm like when am I going to
learn
it it's it's just it's just a matter of
when and if like which is basically
everything but like if I'm moving to
Catalonia at some point in my
life or if I'm not like you know it's
kind of it's kind of iffy but oh well so
yes that's all of that's this video
done I hope you've enjoyed this video if
you did please like comment and
subscribe if you want to and I'll see
you all next time bye-bye
