- Okay, so there is a new way
that people are making money with Canva, and it is crazy.
Seriously, as I will show you,
people are making $2,939 per week
just 12 days after starting this.
Yep.
So here's how they're doing it.
First they come to Canva and they pick one
of the pre-made This or That templates,
and then they turn it into a simple trending TikTok game
like this one here that couples can play
and share with each other.
And they do that by just switching out the graphics
and the text in the template
and using Canva's built in animations
to turn it into an animated game.
And then they earn thousands of dollars a week
by monetizing them with TikTok ads.
As I said, it's pretty crazy.
So if you wanna see how they're doing it, I'm gonna show you
how to replicate it with Canva
and with a little bit of help from ChatGPT step by step.
But first, let me show you exactly how
people are making $2,939 per week in just 12 days
with these simple Canva videos.
So check out these different TikTok accounts here.
These are just some of the accounts which have popped up
in the past two months posting this new type of TikTok game,
and they have gained tens of thousands of followers
and become monetized fast.
And it was actually this one here, soulmatequizzes,
that was the first one that I stumbled upon
while I was doing TikTok research.
And it's super interesting, right, because if we scroll down
and we check out their first video that they posted,
which by the way, has 164,000 views, you can see
that it was uploaded on February 23.
Well, I am filming this video on March 15th, which means
that this account is just 21 days old,
or in other words, it's three weeks old.
And yet, despite being such a new account,
because these TikTok games are currently super popular
they started making money fast.
And I mean very fast.
Check this out, just three days later on February 26th,
they uploaded this couples TikTok game
which got over 1.9 million views.
And you can see that it follows the exact same formula.
These new TikTok games are just a variation
on the This or That game
with people choosing between two different options.
Except this time they're trying to choose the option
that their boyfriend or girlfriend will pick to test out
how much they actually know each other.
And there's also something that's actually very important
about this video, and it's this.
You can see that they made sure
to make the video over one minute long.
And that is because of the new way to make money on TikTok
which was rolled out on March 18th,
the TikTok Creator Rewards Program.
This is TikTok's new advertising program,
which pays out high ad rates
for videos one minute or longer.
As you can see from these recent posts on Reddit
from users who were a part of the beta for it,
their earnings were on average about 50 cents
to about $2 per 1000 video views.
And so what I did was I went and I added up
all the views that their videos had gotten
since they launched this new TikTok account.
And I discovered that in the past three weeks
they had gained 17.6 million views,
which is on average 5.8 million views per week,
which with an RPM on the low end, at 50 cents,
comes out to over $2,939 US per week,
which as I said before is absolutely crazy.
But yes, before anyone points it out in the comments,
there are two important catches that you need to know
before you can make money with TikTok ads.
The first is that to be eligible to turn on TikTok ads,
you need to have at least 10,000 followers.
But as you can see,
if you make trending videos like this account here
that go viral, that can happen really fast.
Currently they have over 17,800 followers.
And well, as this account is just 21 days old,
if we calculate it, it means
that they're earning on average 847 followers per day,
which means then that it took them just 12 days on average
to get to 10,000 followers.
But as I said, there is a second catch, and it's this.
TikTok is currently only letting people
who live in these countries join their ad program,
which is sad for me
because unfortunately I live in New Zealand,
which is not on that list.
But since most of my subscribers
are indeed based in those countries,
I figured I would at least go ahead and share this method,
because seriously, if I lived in a country like the USA
that was eligible to do this,
I would absolutely be doing this myself.
Because I genuinely do think
that it's an amazing opportunity.
But since I literally can't do it,
I figure I would at least share it so that someone else can.
So then let me now show you how to make
one of these trending viral TikTok games
with pre-made Canva templates.
And it's honestly pretty simple.
So when you break it down,
this is just a new trendy variation on the popular game,
This or That.
So just do a search on Canva for This or That templates.
Now most of these are static pictures
and they're not videos,
but as I'll show you, that really doesn't matter.
So just pick one from the list
that is in the mobile video format.
Then next, we just need
to create our first game question screen.
You can just come up with your own This or That questions
to ask yourself, or like me, if you aren't very creative
at coming up with them, you can do what I did
and just ask ChatGPT to help you come up with ideas.
I just described the video to ChatGPT
and I asked it to come up with some ideas
and it worked great.
I also just used the free version,
so I didn't use the paid version,
and the free version was perfect.
So I took one of the ideas that ChatGPT came up with for me,
winter versus summer, and ran with it.
I changed the title text to be a fun new font,
and I switched it out to be my question.
Then I changed the middle text boxes
to be summer and winter.
And then next I switched out the pictures.
First I came and I searched for an aesthetic photo
of a woman on a beach
and I dragged and dropped it into the top picture
to replace it.
And then I did a search
for a woman in a beautiful aesthetic snowy setting.
And then when I found my picture, I also just dragged
and dropped it onto the photo to replace it.
Then next, we needed to replace the background.
So I just did a search for a fun pink background,
like our example video used.
And I chose one from Canva's built in graphics,
and then I right clicked it
and I selected to replace the background.
But as you can probably see, we do need
to make some more tweaks to this design
since, well, the title text is now hard to read
because of that pink background.
So what I did was I came
and I picked a new fun blue color for the title text,
and then I clicked the text effects
and I selected the shadow effect from the text box,
and I came and I changed the middle text bubbles
and line to match that same blue that we picked as well.
And I also deleted the text box at the bottom of the page.
And now we had our own question slide.
But currently it's not animated, it's just static.
And previously, adding animations
to a slide like this would've been a real big pain
because we would've have to have had animations
to each effect individually.
But Canva has now added a new AI feature
which makes animating this super simple.
All you have to do is click on the page, click Animate,
and then click Magic Animate.
Now its AI technology will analyze the picture you created
and then go through and select the perfect animations
for each element
and different types of video styles
that you want to replicate.
So for me, I picked the elegant option.
Then I came and I changed the slide to be three seconds
instead of five seconds.
So now we have our question slide.
And thanks to Canva's Magic AI, it is now animated.
So next, we now need to add in a countdown timer.
And unfortunately for us, Canva for some reason
does not have any countdown timers inside of it
that we can use, but luckily, they are actually really easy
to make yourself using this trick that I'm gonna show you.
So first off, I'm just gonna come
and duplicate the slide that we created
and then I'm gonna turn all of the animations off for it.
And then I'm gonna change the slide
to be one second in length instead of three seconds.
Then I'm gonna come and delete all
of the middle text bubbles and pictures.
And instead I'm gonna add a circle shape in the middle.
And I'm also gonna do a search
for a three second countdown timer picture.
And then I'm gonna place it in the middle of the circle.
And it's important to note, by the way,
that this countdown picture that we found,
it's not animated, it is just a static single picture,
but that is okay because of what we're going to do next.
Because you see,
what we're now gonna do is duplicate this slide
and then we'll do a search
for a two second countdown timer picture
and find the one that matches the timer we picked before
and switch out the graphics
and then we'll do the exact same thing again.
But this time we will instead switch out
the two second countdown timer picture
for the one second countdown timer picture.
And we'll also change the timing of this slide
to instead be two seconds.
And we'll add an exit animation for this page,
which is why we made the page
last a little bit longer in the video.
And so now if we play back our video,
you will see, thanks to our trick
with these different slides, we now have a countdown timer
that looks like it is ticking down.
So now you can just go in and duplicate the slides
and switch in the different questions and graphics in it.
Make sure to add in at least eight questions
into your video.
Then we'll go ahead
and drastically increase video engagement
by adding in a hook.
Because you see, here's the thing, right?
If you watch the videos
of the accounts which are having the most success
with these TikTok couples games,
you'll see that they usually add in some sort of hook
at the start of the video.
So they'll add in text explaining the game,
and also adding in a catch if you get more than two wrong,
such as needing to buy your boyfriend or girlfriend dinner.
It's a really engaging hook.
But to create it, we're gonna have to use
some animation tricks.
Luckily though, they're pretty simple.
So to make this, we will create a new slide
and then we'll drag it to be the front
of the video timeline.
Then we will replace the background
with our fun background picture.
And we'll type in some text in the exact same style
as our text titles, asking a question like
how well do you know your girlfriend?
And we'll then add in the rise animation to the text box,
and we'll set the slider time to be two seconds.
And this time we'll add in our hook
of if you get more than two wrong to the text box.
But this time we'll change the text
to be animated only on entry.
And then we will duplicate this slide.
But this time we'll change the text box
to only be animated on exit, not entry.
And we'll add a new text box underneath
in the same font style that says our catch,
that they'll have to buy their girlfriend dinner.
And we'll set this to be animated,
but this will be animated for both entry and exit.
And then we'll finish up by looking for a cute photo
of a couple out on a romantic dinner date.
And we'll also set this to be animated
for both entry and exit.
And so now if we play our video back, you will see
that our video starts off with our introduction
and our fun hook
and the catch pops up on top of that hook,
which is a really cool and engaging effect
that we've been able to do with this trick.
And by the way, if you wanna come up
with more funny catches like this for your videos,
but like me, you aren't creative enough
at coming up with them for yourself,
you can actually just come on back over to ChatGPT.
I tested it out by describing to ChatGPT the scenario,
that I was creating a game for couples to play
that tested their knowledge of each other, and if they lost,
there needed to be a fun, flirty consequence.
And I asked it to come up with some,
and it actually did a really good job.
And I should note this was just the free version of ChatGPT,
not the paid version.
Alright, so next up we need to add in our AI voiceover
to our text slides.
So to do that, we'll just click on apps
and type in AI voiceover,
and then we'll click on the voiceover app.
And then type in the text of one of your slides.
And then next, come and select a voiceover.
If you're making one aimed at boyfriends
testing their girlfriend, pick a male voice.
But if you're instead making a video
aimed at women testing their boyfriends,
then I recommend selecting the Mia voice,
as she is the most common voiceover used
in these TikTok games.
Then make sure that the conversation style is selected
and then just click generate.
And once generated, drag it to the slide
that it matches with in your video timeline.
And something I do have to note about this app
is that only the first 400 characters of AI voiceover
that you generate with it are free to use.
After that, you will need to pay for more characters.
For $10 though, you can get 15,000 characters.
On average, in my experience, these couples games
usually use up around 150 characters.
So $10 can get you about 100 videos,
which is actually pretty good.
Although, as I will show you later on this video,
using another trick, you can actually save
quite a bit of money with your AI voiceovers.
Or alternatively, if you don't want to pay anything at all,
you can actually just use an external AI voiceover app
like Micmonster, which leads you generate free voice clips
that are 300 characters or less.
And then you can just upload these separately.
And now we're gonna come in and add free sound effects.
Because here's the thing, right?
If you were to actually watch this video
and listen to it with the sound on,
when the countdown timer appears and it ticks down,
there is a buzz sound for each second that it ticks down,
which actually makes it quite engaging
and it definitely adds to the suspense.
So ideally, we do wanna add in a ticking sound like this.
And luckily, that's pretty easy to do with Canva.
All we're gonna do is click on audio
and then type in something like beep
and select one of the sound effects.
And we'll drag and drop it at the start
of each of our countdown timer slides.
It's pretty easy.
And something that we're not gonna do
is we're not gonna add in any of Canva's music
because the truth is, is that TikTok has lots of free,
amazing music within the app.
So when you're uploading your video to TikTok,
I recommend just picking one of their trending songs
and using that instead.
But to do that, we will need to export our video in HD.
So let's do that right now.
And doing that is super simple.
Just come and click the share button
and then click the download button
and make sure that MP4 is selected as the format type,
and make sure that it's set to 1080p
for the video quality.
And make sure that all of your pages are selected
and then just click download.
It might take a few minutes
since it's saving a lot of files,
but don't worry, that's normal.
And now we have our own couples TikTok game
that we can upload, which is super cool.
And it looks just like those couples games
that the viral account, soulmatequizzes, created.
It has our fun hook at the start,
which features a surprise catch.
And it plays out with different questions,
which ChatGPT helped me to create.
Along with our countdown timer,
so couples can now play this and share this together,
and that also helps it to go super viral.
But we are not done yet
because there is something else that we want to do
that is very important.
And that is, we want to scale up our views and earnings
by creating an editable template.
Yes, because as you've probably noticed,
while creating these videos is very simple and easy,
it is also admittedly a little fiddly
and quite time consuming.
So we want to create an editable template
so that in the future it will be much faster
and much easier to create these.
And as you will see,
it'll also potentially be a lot cheaper.
So what we're gonna do is we're gonna click share again,
but this time we're gonna click on brand template
and we're going to publish it into our projects folder.
And so now inside of your templates folder,
you'll have your own custom private template
that no one else has access to except for you.
You can now use this to quickly create new videos.
You just need to switch out the text pictures and voiceover.
You don't need to re-add the animations or sound effects
or duplicate any slides.
So you can now just create new videos quickly
in like five minutes.
Plus, because of the fact that a lot of the times
the intro hook is basically the same,
that means that you can keep
most of that intro AI voiceover as well and just reuse it.
So it means that you don't have to
repurchase those characters each time
that you make a new video,
and you can just reuse the ones
that you have already created for free.
Nice.
So to learn about other ways to make money with Canva,
be sure to watch my next video here on screen,
and I will see you in the next video.
