Transcripts
I've been a video editor for over four
years and I started from nothing to
being able to quit my job to go
full-time editing all the way to growing
a sixf figure video editing business in
this video I'm going to tell you step by
step what I would do if I lost
everything and what I would do to build
it all up again but before we start I
want to tell you a little tip for
YouTube so apparently high quality
cameras and lights and complicated edits
they're going out of fashion and
apparent vlogging is the new thing so I
bought one of
these and I'm going to take
you onto a
journey
okay one of the biggest mistakes editors
nowadays make beginner editors is they
literally just copy and paste Alex hosi
Imam gadzi and Ali Abdul edits and they
think clients want that they think
clients care about a popup random popup
Emoji coming up when he says stocks they
don't care about that in fact what you
do if you start editing like that what
you're doing is you're looking like all
of the other editors you're not standing
out so I run a six-figure video editing
business and I'm going to tell you how I
did it and if I lost everything today
money all my network and all my
portfolio what I would do to start a
again so number
one is I need to have some sort of
evidence that I can do a good job at
editing and it's guys it's not just
about editing it's also knowledge on how
social media works so what I would do is
I'd pick a niche I'd pick something that
I enjoyed watching
myself so let me give you an example
okay guys let's
say I want to pick my favorite streamer
I want to pick my favorite d
or I want to pick um my favorite
YouTuber and what I'll do is I would go
onto their YouTube channel and I'll take
their long form content and make Clips
out of it make edits out of it or
re-edit whole YouTube
videos the best way to do this so if you
pick a uh streamer or YouTuber who does
a vlog style doing what I'm doing now
actually where I'm not really editing
much I'm this is just raw me talking at
a camera this is perfect for people that
just don't edit much like um Sam sulak
for example you the
bodybuilder this will allow you to
practice and also allow you to keep
interest up cuz you've chosen your
favorite influencer streamer YouTuber
the next step is I would create account
like a fan account for each one of the
platform so we want let's say let's
choose let's say we're going to do samul
look on a working out like bodybuilding
type of Channel okay we'd start a
YouTube channel we'd start a Tik Tok we
start an Instagram and we start posting
videos that we've created now the
downside of editing when You' got no
experience and you got no proof that
you're any good at it is that you need
to work for free basically not for
people but just for yourself you need to
learn how to edit and you need to
understand how social media works and
what what goes viral and what does like
doesn't work what does work so making a
fan account of something will allow you
to do that you'll get videos that will
flop you'll get videos that will blow up
and you can look at the ones that
blowing up and you can see why did that
blow up okay with that experience when
you do get your first client you can
actually get them results cuz Believe It
or Not guys clients don't care about how
the edit looks normally okay clients
care about getting the results they
want what and how do you find out what
results you want you you talk to your
client potential client or you research
your potential Cent anyway that's
another story okay so you got this fan
account you've got some video you got a
big lot of videos on on your accounts
and you got some videos that flopped and
you've got some videos that have blown
up alhamdulillah with that you've got a
portfolio now portfolio shows your
potential client that you can edit and
this is what it looks like but the
beauty of the fan account is you've got
numbers and results as well it's not
just a standalone edit you can say look
I made this fan account and I grew it to
10,000 followers on Tik Tok and I got
this many views on this video and this
many views on this video and I could do
the same for you that is more powerful
than just a copy and paste edit I'm
starting to regret coming out now man
it's proper
raining wow okay so you've got your
Social proof that you can edit and that
you can get results so what next it's
finding a client okay the next part
finding a client you need to choose a
niche and what I mean by that is what
who do you want to edit for cuz you
can't just DM anyone that doesn't work
that it's so sold destroying bro dming
like 500 people a day just just randomly
with a generic DM saying oh I can edit
for
you I don't care what's more impactful
is let's say you choose a niche let's
say we we we using Sam as an example
let's say you choose personal trainers
so you want to create videos for
personal trainers so they can get
clients brilliant so what's the purpose
of you your purpose is you is to help
them grow on social media and the
purpose of you is to help them get leads
to make money if they're going to make
money they can pay you money okay the
more money they make the more money they
pay
you so let's say you would choose the
personal trainer
Niche now you need to go research
personal trainer social influences okay
who is doing it right okay who is
getting the views what are they doing in
their edits and their videos to get
those
views and then with that you can start
adapting your videos to look like that
next is to find small personal trainers
that aren't doing so well on social
media but how you can see they have the
potential meaning they're either
established in their business or a
minute so they're either established in
their business or um they're a bit
they're not techsavvy you can see
they're doing well with their personal
training they got the the info right but
they're just a bit rubbish with tech
okay and that's where you come in you
can help them to create better videos
and you can edit those videos okay so
look for those types of people and DM
those types of people but don't give
them a generic DM don't give them a
generic DM actually look at their
business know their name understand
their business and how you can fit in
and solve that problem and send them a
customized DM even better if you can
send them a um if you can send them a
video explaining how you're what you're
going to do for
them right you guys are probably
thinking what are you doing in the rain
I didn't think it was going to rain
that's how bad it is
mate oh d p and the next step is to
actually create videos for them okay so
take some of their videos that they've
got on their Instagram their Tik Tok or
their YouTube re-edit them into shorts
if they're doing long form make Clips
the best bits if they're doing shorts
but they're not very good then re-edit
them and show them what you could do for
them if you continue to do this these
targeted DMS you won't get rejected as
much all right
so a lot of uh video editors that are
dming people they um they just get
rejected constantly and it's really
frustrating um but if you do it like
this you're actually targeting someone
and actually solving a problem for
people rather than just um throwing
loads of stones and hope you hit
something so basically with this
technique you should get a client um
when you get your first client there we
go alhamdulillah you got your first
client now on another video I'll talk
about like like how to price yourself
and how to have that sales call with
that client um but let's just skip to
getting that client you have to wait for
another video on that so now you've got
your first client and you're earning in
between 300 and
$1,000 a month so do you celebrate and
and spend all your money um your extra
money or your the your first client no
what I recommend is to invest that money
back into yourself into the business
into the editing okay and use that money
to buy you year subscriptions of
softwares and um subscriptions for
assets and so on like that so the things
that you'll need to be better is I
really recommend getting Premier Pro
okay if you're using cap cut or you're
using um Da Vinci resolve or whatever
any free
software I'm not saying premere Pro is
the best software ever and you need to
buy it but it's the best I really
believe it's the best for like starting
off business people Okay the reason
being is the amount of support you get
okay any technique any editing technique
you need any editing tutorial for
premere pro it's out there you can find
it instantly quickly you don't have to
worry about it so for example remove
background on for editing the first
couple of videos that uh come up will be
Premier Pro and after effects and with a
subscription you'll have
you you know you'll have that and also
guys presets so to become a better
editor right you need to have some
awesome effects that you can you can
establish in your edits some of the best
ways to do that without the skill is to
buy them or download them okay now
there's there's um websites called uh
like envato elements for example andato
elements you've got reams of stock
footage pictures Graphics videos and
presets for Premier Pro that you can use
for your editing and your and and so on
like that this is wild i' go for Premier
Pro and now with your first paycheck of
300 to
,000 probably better just to buy a
Year's worth outright boom so you don't
have to worry why a why a year and not
monthly the reason being is let's say
you've got that client first client and
that client you drop dropped you or you
drop that client and you've got no more
clients left but you've got this Premier
Pro subscription every month you got
you've got to do it for at least a year
so this this means that you don't have
to worry about monthly payments if you
lose a client you know you've got the
money you can spend it but most
importantly guys is getting some good
background tunes that are Hal so I'm
going to do another video on that but
there's ways you can get free
non-copyright aeds on YouTube but how
can you tell they're going to be
non-copyright for that long and also
they don't sound that
good the second option in my favorite is
vocal Tunes vocal tunes.com you can buy
licenses so once you buy the license you
can use that in your edits you've got
the license for
it you've got the copyright for it so
they cost about $40 per track okay so if
you buy a handful of tunes that will
make make you stand out and be unique in
your edits compared to everyone else on
your level using the three Tunes hello
beats in the background every 5
seconds then uh then you're going to win
the third option is hello beats which I
think is the worst option why the Neds
are
mediocre they're some of them are good
but they're not varied basically they
they they all feel the same so you can't
have different style of edits with them
okay and the second is they're the most
expensive I mean okay how the licensing
works for this one is you pay
per project per video so if you're doing
shorts that is
mental so you imagine it like let's say
you got a client that does 30 shots and
you want you would have to buy 30
licenses at $30 Madness they got another
option which is $140
$130 and that means you can use it
multiple times but again $130 for that
if the if the Beats were better quality
I would get them but at the stage you're
at it's too expensive you're probably
thinking right now no way so now you've
spent all your money that you got from
your client on yourself that will set
you up for the year to level yourself up
um compared to your competitors and
those competitors we using the free
software the free assets and the free
Tunes in the
background and now you're using more
luxury paid ones so guys now you're at
stage two on your journey you've got one
paying client okay and you've got a
Year's worth of Premium softwares and um
footage to use for your edits so the
next stage is to rinse and
repeat look into the same Niche okay let
Fitness Niche and look for more people
to DM to bring on board
