Hi, this is Numeric Citizen. In today's video, I'm very excited to show you what's new in Craft version 2.8.0.
Are you ready? Let's start! The 10-pole feature of this release are reminders and here by reminders,
it's not about integrating with Apple Reminders but instead having its own system of reminders
within Craft and those can be assigned to any type of blocks within a document and also they can be
managed, the notifications that they will generate will be managed in a new section in the notification
portion of the Craft environment. You can also use reminders to resurface a task that you have
created within the document and also reminders can have their own emails for reminding you about
those reminders and they can be managed in their own specific settings. Also, there's finally the
"Find the search and replace" function where you can search for specific text and have that replaced
with some other text. This is working across a single document or within the document and all
the sub pages within the document. There's also a few other options that you can manage right there
and it doesn't work across many documents or across spaces.
Also, there's a few options in the action menu in the Home view. I'll show you that in the
demonstration section and also the Craft widgets have been redesigned so I'll show you what we've
got now as widget options and I think it's time for the demonstration segment. So how do you use
reminders? It's very simple. Let's say I'm working in the Craft Bible and I want to set a reminder
for tomorrow when the official release of Craft will be out. So I can go here, like click on this
box there, this block, and I click on that and I go add a reminder. This is where you are adding
reminders. You click on that and I can ask for tomorrow to have a reminder about that.
And so tomorrow I'll be eventually getting a notification. If I want to customize that,
I can reschedule in 20 minutes, one hour, or I can create a custom schedule. So instead I'll leave it
like that or I can just leave it there and see how it goes tomorrow. When you do get a, and by the
way, when you want to assign a reminder, you can really do that in a lot of places. This is here,
this is a sub page that describes the Craft Bible. And so for some reason, yeah, so I can again come
back here. This is a sub page and I can assign a reminder on this in whatever I want to make it
work for me. And so when you do get notification about reminders, this is where you'll get it. So
first you have the usual activity notification that we used to get in Craft for a long time.
But now there's a new segment here where you have the reminders of past reminder that we add.
So here, if I click on that, it was due yesterday at 8 PM. If I click on this, I will be moved to my
actual document containing the reminder. So if I can go, I can go there and click mark as resolve
and now it will remove it. And also I can click on that one, which is the next edition of my
weekly summary. I can click on that and it will bring me to the actual block within the document
itself, which I can click on that and either reschedule, mark as resolved. And so if I go back
in the Craft Bible, for example, I can come back here. And also this is the updates history that I
just set the reminder on. And if you see here, you can show resolve reminders. So the reminders that
I just select to be resolved are shown here. So you see here, this is past the reminder that I
set and I can come back to the actual list of active reminders. If I have a reminder that I want
to reschedule, it's very simple. I click on it and I can click on reschedule. And then here can select
use a custom. So for tomorrow, so it's on the 13th, I want to be reminded about
7.30 AM and apply that and it will change to the actual the new reminder timing. So it's very easy
to do. Now, when you do get reminders set up all over the place, you will get a notification email,
which I'll go and see in Hey, so this is how you this is the email client. So this is how you will
set get a email itself. So you click on that and it should bring up the craft at the right document
at the right block. It might open the web version. And if you have to authenticate, then it will lose
track of the reminder that you were trying to reach. So you'll have to come back to this email
and click again and some most of the time it works, but I found some issues there. And also you can
select the manage reminder notifications because those are emails that are being sent. So for that,
you can go when click when you click on this link, you will get this page setting page here where you
can just select if you want the the email me reminders. And if you want to have summary that are
schedule on a specific time, which here it's 7am each morning. So this is very simple to change.
If you ever want to change the default options. If you've been using craft, you know that when
you are creating a checkmark list here, like when you select this and you select this option
to set a kind of a task that you want to achieve in the document, there is no way for you to set
a reminder until this version. So now when you want to set a reminder for this specific task,
what you can do is just right click on this one and remind me in in a specific time like today in
at 9am click on this one. And so when you will get a notification in this section here, you will see
that you will be able to act upon this task and mark it as completed right within the notification
section, which I think it's pretty cool. I just got a notification from one of the craft reminders
that I set earlier. So if I click on that here, you can see that the this is a Mac notification.
I also have the notification defined here like this. What I want to show you is very simple.
So if I click on that, I will go directly to the document containing the the block where there is a
reminder set to it. So it is right there. What would be cool is that if I could
mark the task that is actually the block here, it's a task. It would be cool because it would
be a simple way for craft to resurface any task and set a reminder to it and then mark the task
completed once the reminder is fired up. So I would go there, I would click on that. If I click on this,
it removes the reminders, but it does not mark this task as completed. So I have to do that
manually. So I want to explain this because I want to set the expectation of what are those
reminders in craft. So now you have, I guess, a better understanding of what they are. One
other limitation regarding reminders is that if you are working offline, like you are on a plane
and then you are working on a document and you want to set a reminder, you won't be able to do so.
And my understanding or my theory about that is because when you are setting a reminder in craft,
there is something happening in the back end because this is how craft knows how to send you
an email when there is a reminder coming up. So this is my gut feeling. I don't have any
inside information about that, but reminder for you is that you have to be online connected to
the web in order to be able to set a reminder to a block within craft. Now, the question that you
have that you might have for me is how do you use reminders in craft since version 2.8 is out now?
As you probably already know, if you have been following me on YouTube, you know that I recently
posted a video about why I decided to stop managing tasks within craft with the use of the
checkbox block type. I prefer to use things for that, but now that we have craft reminders
available to us, I did find some very useful use cases for them. And one of those cases is that
if I'm working on a long document, and I want to remind myself that I have something to do about
this specific portion of a document, this is where I'll be using craft reminders and I'll set them
according to my preferences and then I will get reminding a notification that there is something
that needs to be done. So how I could do that? Well, it's very simple. So let's return to this
specific document. And I want to, like I have something I want to do within this document
that I want to complete, so I could write the following portion of this document should be
reworked. So now what I can do is that if there is a, like I could create a page there,
this is the page to work. So I could set a reminder to this block here. And then what will happen when
I hit the notification craft will bring me back to this specific portion or just click on this
portion here and set a reminder for tomorrow. And this one I should be also set the reminder to
tomorrow. For some reason, I could decide to be brought back to this page that I need to rework,
but I don't want to forget to remove this portion so I can set a reminder to that. So really the use
case for me is really about when I'm editing documents within craft and nothing more for now.
I might find some other use cases for craft reminders, but for now this is the use case
that I'm depending on. Now the second big change that comes with version 2.8 is the header image
reformatting or resizing that you can do now. So again, I have this document where there's a
header image that I would again decide to remove and then I'll set a new one for you to understand
exactly how the new feature works. So if I click on that, I can decide to have a header image and
then I'll come here and then I can ask Unsplash to maybe give me some example of images like this one.
Right now I'm using a trackpad on my Mac because I found out that with the mouse the experience is
maybe a little bit subpar so I'll be using the trackpad on the Mac for that. So to change the
size of the header image now you see there's a new pencil there so you click on that and then
you will be presented with this pop-up window where you can set a few things like here if I
select like 3.1 it will give you the new size that I can use for the banner for the image header and
then it becomes kind of a banner because of this aspect ratio that I'm currently using and I can
just zoom in and zoom out within my image just I would like would expect like in Apple Photos for
example. So right from now I can click on Done and you'll see that the document now is adjusting
itself to the new header image size and I must say that I really like this because it allows me to be
a little bit more creative with my document formatting so this is kind of banners that we
used to have in old web websites so I like that a lot. So I can come back here and if I want I can
just simply reset to the actual size of the image and then I can proceed with standard zooming with
on the trackpad and leave the current aspect ratio I can set a 4x3 if I want and again zoom where I
want to zoom on this image using two fingers for example I can set the focus of this on the mountain
there and once it's completed I just again click Done and the page will resize accordingly. So it's
very nice to add this option now available in this release of Kraft. I don't know if any members of
the Kraft development team is watching this video but there is something that I would like to see
maybe in an upcoming Kraft release and this is an improvement to the editing experience of the
header image so instead of clicking on clicking there and having this pop-up window what I would
like to see in the future maybe is is that the the old user interface of Kraft would could turn to
black and do the editing in place so that it would I think provide a more seamless experience instead
of being an immoral way of working within the image. So just in case someone from Kraft is
watching so there you have a small feedback. Next up there is now the search and replace
function that is now available and this has been asked for quite some time now. So I have this
document here it's made up it's some fake wording in the text so let's say I want to replace all
occurrence of that. Copy this word. The way where it's the function the feature is now allocated
it's not right there because here it's only searching within a this document. I have to go
to this view instead by going there if you go back in the organized view or in the document view
and the option is right there so you can search for this and there it will highlight all the words
that are matching this specific thing yes right there so again right this if I want to change
that to apple and replace all it will change within the document so this is a very basic but
very essential feature. You can also as you can see here change the scope of the search and replace
you can ask to search only this page but if your document is containing sub pages and you want to
change them make the change everywhere within the document container itself then you leave it there
but if you want to only change in this specific page that you are seeing now this is the option
that you would select. The other thing is that you can search for simple text like I showed you
earlier but you can also use regular expression and from there you can type any regular expression.
I'm not very good at that I never really understood those I understand the concept but this is a way
a very geeky way to search for text within a document so this is the thing that you would
enter here the regular expression that you would type here and then you would select which text
you want to replace the result of the search of the regular expression and also you can match
the case or also you can decide to ignore the what we call the diacritics or the accent that we have
in some language so you can just ignore those or you can decide to know I want to really search
for those so depending on your searching option search and replace a goal this is what you can
do here so it's a pretty complete implementation of find and replace sometimes I think it's called
search and replace but you get it and you understand the idea so it's a nice addition to
this release of craft if you have been users of whiteboards in craft now you will be happy maybe
to learn that you can insert screenshots or images and videos within your whiteboard so if I double
click this dashboard here to enter in edit mode and then you'll see that using the the pointer
here I can move around this specific object which is a an image but also I can paste the link of a
youtube video for example like this one so it will show up right there I can resize the video as I
want I'm currently recording this video just before the release the full release of of craft version
2.8 I thought that I would be able to play the video within the whiteboard it's currently not
working it might be a bug or it might be only available once the full release is available
I don't know otherwise if it's not the case then it might be an improvement to to do that so yeah
images and videos link can now be pasted within a whiteboard widget I've been redesigning in version
2.8 and what you are seeing now there it's my desktop and there is two widgets that are from
craft the one here at the top left corner and this one here at the bottom right if I click on this
specific widget it will bring me to the design to the configured document where I want to be brought
in when I'm clicking on it and the other one here is the recent documents that I've been working on
within craft so if I click on that it will bring me to the same document so how do you do is get
access to those if I enter in the edit widget mode and then I come back here I go there and I click
on craft this is the widget format that you will be able to use I think there is I think there is
one missing they're very big widget I'm not sure but you could use it so if it was there if I use
on this one it will adjust oops I remove that one so again this is the biggest that you can use you
have to use the username of the space that you want to reach the background that you want to use
there is a few background options that are now available I like the sky one and when you are
hitting the plus sign in the widget with where are the documents going to be so I write I like to be
there in my space from within my default team click done and boom there is this a new widget
now that is available so it's very simple um um widget that are that are now available in craft
I like the new options and the redesign itself so yeah this is the another addition to this release
the other tweak that has been added or the other change that is coming with this version of craft
is the menu action that you get when you are right clicking on the document within the home view so
this is the previous action menu items that you add so now they are these so there is a lot more
that can be done so let's see that in action if I click on that here and I right click on this
document itself so I can remove it from recent I can delete it I can move it to somewhere else
within another space or within another team I can duplicate it and I can copy the link to the
document and the link that you will get here it's not very it's hard to know but the link that you
will get here is the link that will bring you in edit mode to the document so this is not
necessarily for use if you want to use a deep link for example and also you can open this document in
a new tab in a new window or locate the uh enclosing folder where this document is located
and I think it's very nice to have that right now so you can click on that and this is where
the documents is set up if I can change it to somewhere else like this and I come back here in
the home view right there if I right click on it again and I open this I think that's what is the
one right there opening the enclosing then it comes to a different folder and this is where the
document is located so I think it brings less friction in the way you work when you are within
the home view and it's a nice addition to the craft and burn so that's it for this release of craft
version 2.8 I think it's a very important release I think it's a very useful and delightful release
and I think people will generally like it there's always room for improvement but in general I'm
really positive about this release so thank you for being there thank you for watching until the
very end and see you guys for another one soon bye
