Ryo emphasizes the importance of not just focusing on potential negative outcomes, as suggested by Ecclesiastes 11:14, but also on the benefits of taking risks. Hello! back again with me, Ryo Limijaya
Today, in this video, i will talk about embrace risk
In other words, not worrying about risks
Risk often become a hindrance for us to make the initial step or a decision
Subconciously, human will always measure the risks of any decision they want to make.
But if risk become the main focus then we will not get anywhere.
We will not be bold enough to take steps, or even move forward.
Simple example..
When we want to taste a new food we never have,
If we only think about 'Is it good? Will I like it?' then we will not try the food.
Or when we have never been to a place..
If we spend our time thinking whether the place will be good or safe..
.. then we wil never reach the destination.
Allow me to share my personal experience, how i can embrace risk during a moment of my life.
I had experienced failure.
During my first unversity experience,
before i enrolled in UPH, I choose to enroll in overseas.
In Malaysia to be precise.
But in the end, i fail.
And i choose to return to Indonesia, and took up International Relations in UPH.
Then after graduating from UPH, I choose to continue my Graduate Program in London.
Before i made that decision, there are a lot of thoughts that came into my mind..
especially all the risks that could happen when I study there.
Why? Because i failed last time.
Thus, there are all sorts of risks that came into my mind about the future.
Like, what if i failed again? Second, how do I graduate when my english was barely qualified.
Will i stand living there when i don't have any family members living there?
Those risks kept on haunting my mind for months.
And finally i realize, if i only focus on the risks, then i would never start.
And i would not take my graduate program.
I'm glad i decided to overcome my fear and embrace the risk until finally i can graduate with a satisfying result.
Ecclesiastes 11:14 says:
Whoever watches the wind will not plant;
whoever looks at the cloud will not reap.
The verse means, don't just focus on measuring the risks only or on the terrible things that might happen.
But let us be brave to go beyond the risks and start making a move.
Let us each ponder, ' Am i a risk-taker or a risk-averse?'
By knowing our own selves, we could be leaders who make decisions bravely.
My last point in this video, are tips you can use and practice in your own lives.
When we are faced to making a hard decision, and we have to measure the risks..
.. learn to make a list
If we make the decision, what are the risks and the benefits?
If we DON'T make the decision, what are the risks and benefits?
Hopefully when we write down the list, we will take the benefits and start to overcome the risks.
So that you can make a good decision in your life.
God bless!
