consistently highest viewed videos I

think right now it's sitting right

around 1.1 million views which is great

but number two it severely damaged my

credibility to a lot of people who

hadn't seen my channable before which is

not so great the premise of this video

was dead simple everybody featured had

two recommendations to make two picks

one that was accessible and affordable

and one that was money is no object for

the affordable pick nearly everyone

picked the drop epo's PC 38x and for the

money is No Object pick nearly everyone

including myself picked the senheiser

800s a headphone that was $600 at the

time so the video goes on to be wildly

successful reaches a ton of new viewers

the problem was everyone just assumed

that this was some deep conspiracy that

we were all in on to get a huge bag from

sinhe I swear on my mother's life nobody

associated with that video saw a dime

from senheiser they didn't have anything

to do with it and no money changed hands

between anybody in that video and any a

company either I thought it was funny at

the time in hindsight I can't see how

somebody would draw that conclusion I'm

not mad at it so we're running it back

for summer 2024 a lot of great stuff has

come out since then IM IMS are playing a

much larger role in the audio space and

the economy is just kind of ass right

now so we'll see how well those picks

from Odyssey no surprise there it really

is an audio file like headphone with all

of the gamer features people are looking

for like game to chat mix onboard EQ and

of course a microphone for $300 it

completely reset the bar of what was

possible from a gaming headset from a

sound quality perspective so I think

it's natural that audio files are going

to gravitate towards this especially if

you appreciate excellent tuning from

base to treble it just does everything

right whether you're playing single

story games or multiplayer it really is

an exceptional headphone and when you

have the convenience of Wireless it's

just really tough to beat now as great

as the Maxwell is the headset I have

used the most since it came out is the

eost H6 Pro open acoustic this is

arguably not as good sounding as the

drop PC 38x but I chose it because it's

more comfortable for me me and I think

cup is such an important thing to factor

on a gaming headset it still sounds

great being an open back with fairly

good tuning has a flip to mute mic

excellent build quality and I swapped

the pads out to the dcone jerseys which

is just chef's kiss in terms of comfort

when you connect that with that audio

performance to something like a creative

gc7 deck which is giving me game to chat

mix and onboard EQ so I can quickly mute

my friends when I'm in a sweaty

situation or quiet the game down if I

need to hear what they're saying it's

just a total package and at under $300

it's a really compelling analog offering

that frankly should last forever now I

want to give a quick shout out to IM cuz

the value they represent for gaming is

just absolutely absurd and one of my

favorite ones to use is the simgot em6 L

the nozzle is smaller so again is

extremely comfortable but the tuning on

this and the driver Arrangement is just

exceptional for gaming and also for

footstep awareness and detail retrieval

so if you're trying to play a little bit

more competitive honestly really

consider an IM they help block out more

noise like a PC fan and having that low

noise floor helps with subtle details

they run off of basically anything and

you can get a $10 Apple dongle and be

good to go or if you want something more

robust with a volume knob fi k11 is a

great pick so yeah even though I have

access to the hd800s or the zmf Caldera

open I still play on gaming products or

more affordable stuff because that's

really all I need to be competitive in

gaming and the comfort and features and

capabilities are just as important as

sound quality when it comes to having a

good gaming experience I do compare a

lot of this stuff on my channel so if

don't get with audio file stuff there's

a lot to be said for quality of life

features next up are some faces you'll

probably recognize from the

headphones.com team who are also not

but they're all great guys so things are

a little bit different from last time I

kind of have a toss up on a things so

it's hard to pick one direct Choice one

thing that's really stood out is since

last time me and a bunch of guys sat

down did a blind test we put on

headphones just like this blindfolded

ourselves and then we're turning around

in various video games trying to hit

other players we did this in Destiny

Counter Strike valerant OverWatch bunch

of things and the results were really

interesting in fact this one the 6xx a

headphone known for not having much

Sound Stage really came out on top and

there's an interesting reason for that

while this doesn't have much Sound Stage

it does have a very strong Center image

which means when a sound is coming from

right in front of you it's easy to lock

on and know exactly where it is so when

I turn and face that player that I hear

I know that I'm facing them regardless

if I can see it or not these excel at

that now since you have eyeballs that

might be a little bit less useful in

fact I think that peripheral sound is

still more important in gaming because

you probably have functioning eyes and

you can see when something is in front

of you so on the budget pick I still am

saying the senheiser PC 38x and yeah on

the absolute top end for gaming I would

still recommend the hd800s but I want to

throw a few things in the middle Odyssey

Maxwell is pretty good though I don't

think it's amazing for gaming I think

it's better for music than anything else

but sound isolation can help quite a bit

you could make a similar case for really

weird headphones like the Bose

qc352 Bose is not a great brand as far

as sound quality is concerned but their

noise cancelling is really good their

comfort is really good and the Imaging

is good enough that with that low of a

noise floor it's pretty easy to hear

when there's footsteps happening if you

really need to hear a footstep over

background noise noise cancelling is the

way to go and if you want a non siser

answer for an open back headphone look

at the Hyman Sara but something really

interesting we learned during that test

is that headphones with super elevated

treble like crazy peaky ones like the

dt990 didn't do as well I've been

telling people for years the dt990 is a

pretty crappy pair of headphones but

this is just another thing that

reinforces it for me don't tell me it's

a studio headphone it's not a studio

head phone that's a entirely different

rabbit hole and uh if you think I'm

wrong 1 V one me snipers and hand

cannons only widows

court and uh yeah those are my top

headphones for playing Among Us wait

that's not the game we're doing I used

to play FPS games quite a bit primarily

csgo and for that honestly if your

budget is completely unlimited there is

really only one choice and that is the

Sennheiser

hd800s these have one of the most

expansive soundstage presentations you

can get in a headphone with a tuning

that puts a slight emphasis on both

footsteps and gunshots that combined

with csgo's hrtf audio engine in

particular means that these are

basically as close to cheating as it

gets without actually cheating they're

fairly easy to drive you don't need a

crazy amplifier to run them and they are

also still to this day one of my

absolute favorites for General music

listening as well if you're looking for

something a little less expensive than

these though the truth ear red are an IM

IM tuned by kral that come in at just

over $50 these have a tuning that beats

many much more expensive products No

harsh Peaks or other problems that

unfortunately often plague more

affordable gear and they also

interestingly have an adapter which

boosts the amount of bass produced by

the IM making them pretty ideal for more

cinematic and immersive experiences like

The Witcher 3 or balers gate for example

but there's one product that I really

want to talk about that isn't actually a

headphone now the game that I play most

is E online it is a space-based MMO and

it is an incredibly socially driven game

so you spend most of your time on voice

chat with other players sometimes even

flying in fleets of hundreds or

thousands of players and you need to be

able to communicate properly so what do

you do when you want to use good

headphones you don't want to go with the

audio quality drawbacks and compromises

that typically come with gaming headsets

but you do still need a mic well you

take your headphones and you slap one of

these on Boom your headphones are now a

headset this is the ant lion mod mic

Wireless and I absolutely love it it

comes with a few of these small dots

that you you can just place on your

favorite headphones the microphone

itself then just attaches and detaches

wirelessly you can fold it up there's no

extra cables to Fumble about with it is

simply the most convenient way to

instantly turn any pair of good

headphones into a gaming headset oh

we're talking about headphones first of

gaming specifically and if you're

wondering what game I play it is

primarily Starcraft 2 I play at a very

high level and know you cannot beat me I

will destroy you let it be known that

you all have skill issues compared to me

in that game and you all need to get

good but of course traditional things

like Sound Stage and imaging don't

really matter when it comes to games

like that the Precision is less

important so any headphones that are

good for music are going to be good for

that as well but we actually did some

blind testing with headphones in

competitive FPS games uh specifically we

used Counter Strike and we used Destiny

2 and OverWatch and we tested this with

hd6xx dt990 Maxwell imperion like all

kinds of different headphones and it

wasn't as clearcut as just like this

headphone has a big Sound Stage and you

know even Imaging therefore the

performance is better turns out that

there were two key factors that

influenced this number one was the game

engine itself and number two was

actually how used to the headphone the

person was so even though we might

recommend an hd800s for gaming don't

think that this necessarily confers a

competitive advantage over other far

less expensive headphones so I'm going

to give you two picks here for my

affordable pick I'm going to go with the

beay dynamic dt770 it's just easy it

works it isolates well no problem for my

high-end pick so originally my pick for

a high-end price Noob gaming headphone

was the hd800s as I imagine it was for

many other people if you've followed any

of what I do you'll know that I am also

regularly critical of this headphone it

has a number of issues particularly in

the treble that I'm not a huge fan of in

fact I regularly roast our Acoustics

engineer who absolutely loves this

headphone unironically however we're

talking here specifically about gaming

and for that application it's still a

high-end pick that I'm going to

recommend to people why for the hd800s

you are very unlikely to get a channel

imbalance not only are the tolerances

incredibly tight for that headphone but

its consistency on the head means that

your actual Inu Channel balance stands a

good chance of being better than what

you get with headphones that have

massive you know compressive pads that

while nice and feel good are you know

potentially going to cause issues for

the channel matching when it's actually

being worn in practice really what you

should be looking for is good Channel

matching a good frequency response and

comfort still some vouches for the 800s

in this economy somebody go tag

earphones and as of late uh the ie600

and in my experience I didn't feel like

any of them were better I certainly

enjoyed some more than the others but

nothing really made me better at the

video game in my opinion you don't have

to spend hundreds of dollars on your pro

gaming headphones get something decent

and that'll serve you just fine and if

you put a gun to my head and asked me

what the objective best gaming IM was

it's the Apple earpods why take ASU some

one of the best Apex players there he

religiously sticks to the Apple earpods

and I think that says something that you

know you can be really good at the game

without very fancy and odd

expensive equipment final recommendation

earpods earbuds King good maybe I don't

know I like what crin guy had to say but

it's weird when we talk about Pros

because their skill level like their

aiming ability their game IQ just their

sheer mental processing speed they're

going to be top tier at the game

regardless of what kind of gear they use

I mean ASU could probably wreck your

on a Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in1

gaming Loadout for mere mortals

especially those of us who are older

with compromised reaction time I'm going

to take every single incremental

Advantage I can get my hands on I still

play mostly Cod multiplayer I will say

if you're on a tight budget iems like

Krone truth ear zero collab are very

good the only reason I don't personally

use IM is because I can't deal with

something in my ear canal for longer

than like 45 minutes to an hour what I

personally use 95% of the time is The

Odyssey Maxwell now these aren't cheap

at 300 or 330 depending on which version

you go with but if somebody kidnapped my

family in exchange for my headphone

collection and I could only keep one

thing it would be this they're Wireless

but they don't sound like Wireless they

are closed back but they sound similar

to an open back they sound incredible

for gaming and everything else the EQ

modes are super effective they're

comfortable for extended periods despite

being one of the heavier options and

most most important they have the

ability to instantly add a mic when I

want one and they have side tone and

chat mix right on the headset I

understand that that's a price point

that's still out of range for most

people or would at least constitute the

complete highend of what they would

spend on gaming audio so for something

more affordable do I still recommend the

drop epost PC 38x absolutely it's got a

mic attached to it that sounds great and

you can plug it right into your

motherboard or console controller and

you're Off to the Races these run 169

you can occasionally find these on sale

but I would definitely stick with the

all black version not the Yellow Version

because the black version's frame has a

more relaxed clamping Force these are

way more comfortable than the yellow

ones as for the 800s I still really like

this headphone for gaming not for music

I've never liked this for music because

it's really bright and it lacks base

it's also insanely comfortable it feels

like it just disappears on your head but

I think we now have ways to get a lot

closer to what it offers for a lot less

money these also have an insanely large

Sound Stage or how big the audio world

feels around you I used to put a lot of

stock into that I used to talk about a

lot I don't so much anymore because cuz

it Doesn't Really translate to what I

play in COD multiplayer it's such a fast

grind I'm never really worried about the

distance where an enemy is located I do

have some buddies that play war zone

that have come back after running these

and have told me that it kind of throws

them off that makes it tougher for them

to find the real distance of an enemy

the HD 490 pro at 399 gives me a lot of

what the 800s gives me it's an extremely

comfortable headphone it's got less

Basse than even the HD 560s and the

stage feels big but not artificial big

it's like a legit wall hack headphone

I've got a review coming up on it pretty

quick what makes it challenging is that

it's basically twice as much as the HD

560s which is very good and maybe a

little more versatile so unless you've

just got money to burn it's a tougher

recommend and a runner upnot to the bare

Dynamic tiger 300r at $200 but I really

wish they do a version with a detachable

cable because that really throws people

off those are my top three right now for

FPS Imaging and the PC 38x is right up

there in that same group it is important

to understand that all my

recommendations are open back headphones

if you need privacy or isolation stick

to IM im's Maxwell or the bare Dynamic

dt770 if you need a closed back option

so there it is hopefully the sequel was

more helpful than the original version
