Welcome
To another episode
Of the sagas and stories that I am sharing with you on this channel
For those who don't know me
I'm Anderson Dick
I am the founder of FuelTech
And today I'm here in Connecticut
Next to New York
Who has recognized this old New York police car?
I'm at Redline Restorations here
Which is where the Mercedes FT Senna is
This project I've been trying to do
That has been running for more than 2 years
I got, I started this car
For those who have followed the channel since the beginning
In my first video I found this Mercedes
Not exactly this one, but I found a Cosworth
There, where the abandoned cars were
Where I found the Ferrari
When I brought the Ferrari to show José there
He was impressed with the Ferrari
And he gave me this Mercedes that's in there as a gift
I haven't seen her yet, I arrived now
Here in Connecticut
It's covered in snow, white, everything is beautiful
Minus 9 degrees now, feeling like minus 15 Celsius
Its cold
But I wanted to come out here to open this video
'Cause I'm so excited
And I'm sure you're very excited to see how this car is doing
There's a special date this year
First of May 2024
It will be 30 years since Ayrton Senna left us
And this is a very special date
A year that many people, I think will bring back the memory of what Senna represented to all of us
And you know that this car is a tribute that I'm paying to Ayrton Senna
That was our great Brazilian idol
And even in world wide motorsport
Not only in motorsport, in Formula 1
But as a person, as an idol
As a personality reference
Of entrepreneur, of determination, of many things, so
For me, this car represents a lot
I think he will also represent a lot for the entire history of Ayrton Senna
And for all Brazilians
And everyone who follows and admires what Senna did
But here's the thing, it's really cold out here
Let's go inside because I'm anxious
To see Mercedes, how is she
It's been 10 months since I last came here at Redline
And during this period I learned very little information
So, come on, put it on TV
Chimarrão, cheese bread
Let's watch it because this episode is going to be good
Let's go in here
But before
Look at the 3 examples in front of you
Golf R
Central exhaust, I think it's really cool
Audi RS4
This one is from some of the employees apparently
Yellow RS4, that's beautiful
Damn, I miss my RS2
That pain of having sold
Subaru STI's
This one looks like it's Colton's daily
Look at the snow here
It looks like refrigerator ice
Just look
Just look
For us who are Brazilian, we are not used to
We were not born with ice like this
This is very impressive
It's very impressive
I want to remove it all
But I won't, leave it
Lets go in
Let's get in
I saw that there is a new car in the collection here
Damn, this is better
Look, let's go in parts
Let's start with this decorative table here
It's obviously not an original car, but it looks nice here
Redline here, for those who don't know
It is a company that mainly is a car curator
There are several collectors here
They leave their cars here for them to take care of and for them to display
Additionally, they also have a restoration workshop
Obviously my Mercedes is here because of this
And they also have Colton's entire collection here
That is JDM Supreme
That I will show you
These cars here in front are
There is a collection specifically, from here to there
Ferrari’s, perhaps the rarest in the world
These are cars that have a history
They are all very low mileage
It's got
This one, for example, has 600
That one has 600 miles, no
599 GTO, is not here
But there is the sign
That one there, 229 miles on the odometer
But the car that caught my attention the most here
288 GTO
1985
This car is very rare
Because he is literally the precursor of the F
Of the F40
That we have
Is there not one here
There was an F40 here, but there is an F50
There's an Enzo, there's a LaFerrari
But this GTO here
It's the car like that, that
For guys that, the collectors
For those who understand history, it is one of the rarest cars
This one has 156 miles
This car here
It's pristine impeccable
This car comes from Bahrain
He spent most of his life in Bahrain
But the car is all new here
Tires, all impressive
What a wonderful interior
What a beautiful thing
You can see the engine a little here, the intercoolers on top
Wow, cool
I've never seen this one in person
But there are other things here
There's a Shelby here
Who saw last week's episode?
That I went to visit Shelby American there in Las Vegas
This here is the Shelby they call Continuation
That this car was manufactured in 97
And it is precisely a car remade by Shelby itself
Not a replica
It's Shelby itself, but it's modern now
There are some modernizations, some interesting things
And this one is an original
That one was made in 97 and this one was made in 65
This one is also a special version, it's a 289
Totally classic
So, imagine that car there
It's a Continuation and this is an original
There are Ferrari’s here
And Enzo, obviously
Imagine this car here
This Ferrari suit is an awesome super car
And there's even one thing that I think is really cool about this Ferrari
The engine it has is the same as the 599
Like Frederico's
That V12
Frederico Sceriffo
That is in Formula Drift
That we put FuelTech and made a turbo
And that Ferrari is a relatively cheap Ferrari
That you can have this Enzo engine
So it's crazy
There you have it, LaFerrari
F50
This F50 here is impressive
The guys have 309km of mileage
All these cars here are new
Impressive
But now here's the thing
I'm looking for Colton, see if I can find him
And let's have a chat with him
Ok, now, I'm really curious, he's holding me here
Because
I'm kidding
We are actually catching up on the project
Behind the cameras
But It was definitely, I'm excited to see the car
But before seeing the car
You recorded some of the progress
Yes
To actually get to this point, right?
A lot of the progress
Take a look and watch the progress
I haven't seen any of that footage yet
Again
I love and I hate the way this happens
They keep it secret
Yes, until the last time
'Cause I hate it some way
But at the same time it's so cool to be
Yes, the natural, the organic experience
The experience is priceless
So watch some of the progress
Before we see the car finished
So let's get it
We have a listing search of 500 miles
Still scrolling down
Going as far as Vermont
Which is multiple states away
Looks promising
It has a black dashboard and
And tan interior
So
Our latest quest, we have to find a parts car
And it has to be a 190E
It needs to be a very rare
Originally factory black interior
We need plastic door handles
A lot of of these are factory original
But they are black
We don't have all of the other items
Such as a black center console in good condition
Various sections on the interior
The plastic cladding as well
There are so many components that don't make sense
These parts are not made any longer
And if we can find a black interior 190E, Original
Something that hasn't been messed with, to much
Then we are going to be good to go
But unfortunately this has been our biggest thorn on the side for the last months
Holy shit
That's a
Is that?
It could be what we need
It has a dealer plate on it
It might be for sale
Just follow it
Following them in a police car right now
Sketchy ass neighborhood
Police car over there, these guys won't go
Expect it, but
I think i'm just going to throw the lights on and get there attention
This neighborhood is not the greatest
It looks like it's got black seats though
These two people must be like, what the hell is going on?
It looks like it has a black interior
But it's dark
There's only one way to find out
Where are they going now?
Shit
I just threw the lights on these people
Hold on
Shit
Whats up guys
Whats up man
You scared me
I'm not pulling you guys over
This is a 190E?
Is the interior black or is it blue?
This one has a black interior leather
Holy shit
Where are you guys heading?
Is it for sale?
Not really
It has a dealer plate
It was my grandmother's car
I used it in college
Oh shit
So it is a very sentimental to me
Would you mind selling it?
Hmm
I got to catch up with some bills, but I don't think so
I can definitely come by
Yo, if
I got a deal for you
If that police car behind you can do a bigger, nastier burnout
Than this thing here
So you have to at least give it some thought
How about that?
Grandma will appreciate it
Grandma will
Grandma will appreciate it
Yeah Definitely
Here is my card
It's got the address of my place
If you honestly are about it, you can swing through
And we will do it
But if I lose
Then, obviously
You know
You'll get to see yet another broken police car
You know, I would like if someone take care of this car, I can't
I'll be honest with you, it's going to be used as a parts car
Oh
Yeah, its going to be a parts car
Alright
I’m not going to lie to you
It's going to be a parts car
But it looks like you can't find these things with a black interior
We just need the trim, the plastics
All the stuff inside
I assume the doors are still good
This thing is like half way open
Yes
She has her kinks here and there
Yes, yes man
Dude
Like I said, she will run forever
But you are going to use as a parts car
We can talk about
We are interested, if you swing by
We'll do the dam thing tomorrow
It will be worth your while
I've been trying to find one for a minute
For another project we have at the shop
And this randomly happened
He cut in front of me when I was half way down the street
I apologize, I got the video running
Oh no man, like I said, you scared the crap out of me
I'm sorry guys, with the lights, man, I'm sorry
With the crazy shit bro
Alright fellas
It's okay, Ill catch you up
See you
I think we might have found it
There it goes
Thankfully we didn’t get pulled over pulling someone over
Hopefully, all goes well
They got the address to my shop
Tomorrow they will swing through
He said it was his grandmothers car
I was up front with him, we are going to use it as a parts vehicle
God bless grandma
Its going to a right place
It's definitely going to the right car
Shit my grandmother would probably wish to be part of any project as big as this
Needles to say
That is the car there
He is everything we need
We are looking for
It has a dealer plate, so it makes sense that it's for sale
Whether it's his grandmother's or not
I think 2 grand and a burnout competition will do it for anyone
Alright guys
So just a update
This is the Mercedes we saw last night floating around my home area
Bridge Work Connecticut
And it's a 190E
With black interior, which is truly rare
Hey Luis, I appreciate you for coming today
All right, so GoPro just died on me
Everything has been dying on me lately
This is the car that
For what I want to say
This is what we're looking for
Its got the black interior
Which is hard to find
Lots of the black trim pieces
Just don't exist
Most of these cars came with gray or tan interior
Or dark blue
Black seems to be the one they made the least, or the rarest out there
This car is exactly what we need for or to finish the Mercedes-Benz 190E
Of Anderson's
So, door panels, back seats seats in good condition
Door switches, stuff like this
We're definitely going to need these parts
Much of the harness was cut, so
Original harness seems to be intact, switches do not work
After meeting up last night
After I pulled him over last night
He was a little reluctant to sell the car
But, by way of a challenge on a burnout
So this thing vs the cop car
I think I'm going to win at this
This
I’ve watched a few videos last night
These are not the best burnout machines
Wow, there's a tire shine on that
Or some shit
Wow, ok, it might work
Might compare
But it's his grandmother's car
I was totally up front with him that this will be a donor Vehicle
So, grandmother's legacy will live on
In a higher form
And
That’s fair
Let's get it going
So if I do win the burnout in the police car
I haven't drove the police car in a while
Chances are something is going to blow up or the tranny is going to fail
What do you want for this?
Oh
Be easy no me
I know, I'll take 2500
After the burnout
I give you 2 grand
Big burnout
But if I win, ok, ok
If you win 2 grand
And 2500 if you beat me
And I still don't know what that shiny shit on the tire is
Oh no
I do not know man
It's just a shine, they look clean
And that
You go first
I'll go first
There you go
It's been a while
Holy shit
This is a good sign
I mean, I was driving her last night
But only short to keep the battery charged
I just got lucky, running into this dude
Like 3 blocks from here
This is insane
So
Hammer down
500 dollar burnout
Let me see, I don't even know
Yes, I think see will do it
I just don't know what the shit on his tire is
I think he set me up
Bro
I try once in a while, I show you how to do it
No offense
All right, let's go
No promises here
That might be it, she's so tired
She's so tired, that might be it
I'm worried now
That’s actually got me worried
Dude, that’s done
Dude, give it a go, that was mine
I'll be fair, that was my one shot
That was the weakest burnout this thing has ever seen in its life
Has to do better than this
Wow
Let's see
That’s it?
I don't know, maybe I forgot something
Hold on, hold on
Hold on
A special juice
That's what it was, it was tire shine
Alright, I have one more shot
Alright, one more shot
If you
Tire shine dude
Where did you get this from?
Grandma's bro
Grandma's tire shine
All right
Shit is going to work
This shit is going to work
I got a second go though
Alright, that's enough dude
That is enough
That's enough
All right
And I'll give it to you with the car
All right?
I hope so
It will cost me 500 bucks
Now it's your turn again
All right
Let me try
OK
That was a lot better
The check engine light is on
Look at this thing
She's done
This car is done
So done
so
All right
If you do better than that, you will get the 500
Alright, sounds good
I need to get back to work
All right
That's all she has got
I tried
All right bro
You win, I'll give it to you
I give it to you bro
As I said, she is reliable
Yes, like I said, she has everything I need to
Thank you very much
I hope it does good for you
Let's go inside, finish the deal
Thank you so much dude
Of course
Guys, here it is, the Mercedes 190E
That we just bought of Luis
So it was 2500 bucks
He gave me an extra 500 dollars for the burnout
It is every bit of Mercedes that we needed
We have got, also hard to find
Inner lock door plastic
We have the door handles intact
Also a big item
The window harnesses here
These door panels
They're alright, but we are going to put carbon fiber panels
In Anderson's car which is up on the lift
So we won't need this stuff
But we need everything else inside
Including the glass
I was able to find some good Mercedes-Benz parts department
If you will, up in California
In fact, Mercedes-Benz classic
A company I use for restoration projects here at Redline
And I was able to source a few glasses
But not everything
So this car is going to come in the absolute greatest way
This is huge
Good stuff
I'm excited to get this thing torn down
Let's go
We are under 190E
And what I'm doing is squaring away the underside of this car
We're going to paint this, clean it up
With some undercoating
Just re-black the underside of the Vehicle, clean it up
And these old patched squares
How you can recall
This was from the old roll cage location
And we've already reinforced the top side of this
So our duty under here is to clean these guys up
And grind all this back to fade it in
So when we spray
Our transition isn’t right in your face
That had a lot of work done
So we have them on both rocker panels
Front and rear
And also some sections in the rear
Rear wells
See one there
And also
There's another one right here
It's very nasty job this stuff is extremely thick
We have areas where it has been applied and re-applied again
And what I'm going to do is smooth it out
So we are going to re-black this with under coating
Its all uniform
And does not stand out like this right here
This has to get faded in
And repainted
Its going to get cleaned up
These welds are not going to be perfect
But it's also the underside of the car.
For a nearly 40 year old vehicle
This car is looking very well
For the underside of a 190E
I looked at a ton of these things to be used as parts cars
And sure enough
They were more rotten than the car was ultimately worth
You spend 10 thousand dollars just fixing the rust alone
But we are here
Clean up a little right there
A little bit of tack welding that needs to be done
To paint
These are the mounts at the front, actually lift points
On the passenger and driver side
Motor and tranny are in there just for fitting purposes
And all the transition from front to the rear
Let's go back to work
We've already had some close calls, we had one in the glove
We have a talking glove right now
And also another one
Skipped off and almost took a good chunk off my arm.
From my sweatshirt
But let's get the job done
And have fun
I will live
And we are ready
The entire vehicle has been prepped on the underside
All our problematic areas have been ground down
Level and cleaned up
Again, utilizing what was there
I got heavy plastic on the floor
Because this stuff gives off a lot of over spray
Even the shirt I'm wearing now
It will no longer be as white as it is
This is my lab bench
I’ve got a bunch of concoctions here
Rip up my undercoating
And here is the car
190E has been completely masked off
To protect all that fantastic paint work we did in the past
I just want to make sure that this over spray doesn't stick to these painted surfaces
Because, if it does
It is a wrap
Its going to be almost impossible to get it off
It's the underside of the vehicle again
These floors, we're going to re-black it
Its going to look clean
Under here
Transitionally its going to come up
And slowly fade into this area
Just as it did factory
This is the brake line
The rocker panel, again
At a one point it was previously textured
And this is driver's side wheel well region
I pulled off a lot of the wheel well body plugs
Just so I can make sure all the undercoating gets inside
All these details, I'm tripping on the plastic
And here is one more shot of the rear
So after this is done
Let's start disassembling our donor vehicle
And re-assembling the 190E
So let's mix this stuff and get it
Now the undercoating process is complete on the 190E
I have to clean up this mess
I have stuff everywhere
It's sticking to my shoes the entire time during this procedure
I just noticed, I shouldn't been wearing these things
Destroyed
No
Crap
This stuff has hardener in it, so
What its going to do
If I don't get this off now
Its going to destroy this box
Crap
Who gets a white toolbox?
Dam white people
No
All right
I got a late night
Going to wrap this up
And clean off my toolbox
Like a ding dong, I didn't put a plastic on it
See you
I want to make sure this gets raw and not shiny
So that the glue can stick better
You know all this
Do you want to say something special to people who speak Portuguese?
Like a little joke?
Can you bring a Brazilian?
They speak Portuguese
Oh fuck
Nobody in Portuguese
You are doing a good job, thank you
You did it?
Got it
Good boy
And that's the interior for the dashboard
Keep some of this in stock
Run upstairs, about Sergio
Rolls of material
So, we got
Leathers, top material
And Alcantara
So
Let's roll the black we pulled for Anderson's dashboard
Sergio is with him downstairs, he is working on him now
It's exactly what we needed
Running and taking the doors off the car
This is coming super handy
I'm excited to wrap the whole dashboard black
I just let Anderson know that we were going to do this 1 hour ago
So it looks good bro
It's already clean inside
If you don't make a mess of ourselves when we're taking this apart
Strut towers, all between ABS
I believe we will be using the factory ABS system
But all around the sub frame
To get out
Components wise, bushings, bolts, hardware
We will reuse it in Anderson's 190E
And we don't want our hands to be a absolute mess with the gloves on
Shit goes everywhere
And the interior?
It has no interior
That’s it
It's exactly what we need
All this good stuff here
Thank you
So we get it on the lift
About right there
And
And we go from here to there
Back here and back there
It's going to be a bunch of running back and forth
This is exactly what
The rear sub frame has already been lowered, we only have our two front bolts
You have the gun over there, yeah
So we are lowering the vehicle down
We are going to put it on top of this table
Get this pressure washed
I just noticed one thing as we were removing the rear sub frame bolts and the fuel line
That the car was getting ridiculously front end heavy
So I just set the straps on
To hold the rear body down
Should be alright
So
We are going down
Right there
Might snap
Right here
Come on
All right
Good?
Let's go to the other side
All right
Stay away from the spring
Hold on
This thing is about to drop
Alright, we are out
Yes
What the hell are you holding on to?
Come out
Where are we stuck on?
Drive shaft, strap
Strap for the drive shaft
Yes
We forgot it
Hmm
It's not the end of the world
Let's just cut it
Those bolts are all seized at the top anyway, so
Grab the saw from Troy
We're just going to have to
Look at that thing
We don’t need it
Some of this stuff we can use
Some of the stuff obviously we can't
But the rear end looks like it had some work recently
Like
Rear sub frame bushings
Hardware is a big thing
We're not going to use any of that obviously
ok
Alright
Good?
Alright, so we're finally coming down
Kev, you gotta pressure wash the rear
Don’t go to far
Let's put those, brand new clothes to work today
It's crazy to wear that shit today
Maybe it will fall on the ,children
Thank you, ok
1,2,3
All right
so
Here we are
Brake lines, fuel lines
There wasn't much we needed, but the car is in decent shape
Wow
The front end is definitely something we will need
Hub assemblies, these are in great shape
Yes
Typical 80s Mercedes
Sweet
So this is the working environment for Anderson's Mercedes 190E
We have the engine, the location
Obviously turbo in place
All suspension is on the table
At least the front, part of the rear suspension
We have got
Upgrade AMG
I believe it is a C32 AMG caliper
Rear differential right there
This is the upgraded rear sub frame
With all the extra welds and gussets
These cars are notorious for cracking the rear sub frames
We have end links
We have suspension for days over here
Guys over at Ground Control hooked us up with these things
We have the bushings
These are the wheel bearings and hub assemblies
They came off that car
Chances are we will use the units that are in that vehicle
Over the years, they got rusty
Original stuff there
This is the suspension we tried to use the first time
To get the fender wheel clearance
These are the cut springs that we modified
At one point we just completely took the springs out
So I believe the new units will be short enough so we can get them underneath there
Clear our wheel arches
Steering box has been blasted
Cleaned up, all those links get changed
The inside of floor is all painted
Let's get some of the interior in place
The center console, the dashboard
We are not sure if we will keep the tape deck
That would be pretty crazy
And don't forget the cassette holder
Fancy, fancy
So all that gets wrapped with Alcantara
The dashboard is now with Sergio getting done
We have a fuel cell coming in
It's going to sit right about there
Yes, this is how we do
The doors, the suspension
Carbon fiber door panels
The bucket seats
To give you an idea
After you disassemble two complete vehicles
You roughly need 5 or 6 car spaces
So we got this thing on the lift
When this comes apart, it will accommodate all this area
And then, interior
Some of the
These are parts that should be sanded and buffed final
Fit to assembly and paint
If painting is necessary, Then bring it downstairs
The remaining doors
The last one to be removed
The original seats out of the Cosworth
And we have a whole bunch of rubbers
Gaskets, these are all the door seals
That we bought new at one point
And they just didn't fit
So we have, like
I don't know, hundreds of dollars in gaskets
That we just tempted and tried
And nothing fits better than the original
But we can clean it with a solvent
In original stuff, it comes out better than new
Intake, heater box
Rear door panels , a little beat up
Wiring and electrical
This stuff is a lot wiring and electrical interior
These are all door handles
Accessories, door trim, rubbers that we do like
Door panels
And we have interior work
And obviously the hood
OCD kicking in, organization is key when you have multiple vehicles a part
If there is no organization, Then you have no completion
Period
Taking a look at quick what else we have in the shop
This is an SRT engine directly from Chrysler
It's one of the Hellephant engines
Makes roughly around 1000 horsepower
And it's going in this old school Charger
Tubular control arms
Suspension, Willwood brakes
We have A/C lines hidden in the fenders
This guy here is going to be one bad mamajama
Rear differential, third member, I mean, we got
A serious fuel system
So, it will make about 1000, probably 1000 to the wheels
And on the other side of things
That might be faster than that
Is our International scout
That we are building
Massive turbo
LS
6 speed and all wheel drive
Back to work
New suspension going in Anderson's 190E
We got the front end up
Sneak peak, we also have the rear going together
Third member is in it
We have the rear lower arms, bushings
All the stuff getting replaced
This will probably be the only moving part in there
Front hub assemblies
These are getting changed out, bearings have a little play
We're gonna clean and blast these guys
These are these big honky replacements
Bearings, in good condition, again
All the hardware needed
I'm going to get back to work here
Side in, good stuff
Parts that need to be cleaned soon and buffed
There is a little more organization, the doors are ready there
Making some progress
So, first wheel bearing is out
I did this one off camera
Just because of how dangerous this procedure can be
This is a 25 ton shot press
Build specifically for pressing out these wheel bearings
This vehicle had roughly 140 to 180 thousand miles
30 years worth of wear and tare, so
As you can already see, its got some rust on the outside edge
It gave way just around 40 thousand PSI
Made me jump, I'll be honest
I'll bang the other one out on camera
This one here was just to test the parameters on how far I had to push this thing
This was a clip that was on the inside of this bearing
Goes in from the bottom like so
To hold it in place
And this is your wheel hub
So the hub sits in right inside this bearing
Like so
The bearings themselves, they could be in better shape
The grease was still there
And there were no signs, the bearings weren't blue
As long as the bearings are not turning color
Then they're still good, somewhat
But this car deserves everything new, so
No questions asked
We go forward, to the bearing number 2
A little pressure
Okay, she is out
That was 32 thousand PSI
So as can you see
I do have a lot of the suspension components missing
We started some test fitment
This way
Trial fitment
On the location of some of these bushings
I will say this is a first for me on the 190E chassis
And these are custom links
And control arms
And support arms, if you will
I just have them lightly sitting in position
And the bushings do still need to be pressed on these
I want to make sure they are in the right location
Because some of the bushings are actually wider
And some obviously shorter then others, so
I want to make sure they are pressed in the right place the first time
Because trying to take them back out later
The bushing isn’t going to be as solid as the first time
So
This seams to be a very loose correct location
The spring is not in place
We do have, 1,2,3,4
4 units in place there
This side is the hub that I was working on
It's under construction right now
We had that nasty ball joint that had to come out
And it was actually bushing rather
And it was giving us a little bit of a problem, so
For now, I’m liking this layout
I'm going to start pressing the bushings
In the locations
And we're going to start reassembling and cleaning the driver's rear hub assembly
So here we go
Test fit Process
Good stuff
Ground control
So, where we got most of these components
There aren't so many instructions online on how to install this.
And I don't have time to reach out to tech support
So I'm just winging it and
It seems to fit all right
Not bad for the a first time
Yes, this is going to be
This is going to be a problem
Oh, maybe not
Maybe not
OK
It scares the shit out me a lot every time
Just about at it's limit, so
Then I'm going to release this, and then drop the rest of the bottom
Why?
Shit
I spent time with Bob
He seems crazy
Oh no
Issue with the C clamp
Then the hub pushed through the bottom
Obviously it had enough force to minimize the displacement
Between the ring and the bearing
So she pinched it and now she's frozen
I have to pushed the bearing this way
Using this inner raise
Its not going to do anything
Its just going to slide through the bottom
I just need to pound this ring out
Without scathing the inner walls of the hub
This is a typical Mercedes thing
So a little tip of advice
Save your old bearings
And pieces of your old bearings
To press out or in your new bearing
So
Right here, let's use a session from our old unit
On the other wheel hub, and then we'll just use one of these
Contact
I jump every time with this dam thing
Let it stop
That will be it
The socket
Slightly
That’s it
Its not really moving
I forgot what the last one looked like
So we're expecting for another one of these
Holy shit
We can still use this one again
We can reuse this, we can clean this up
This is nice
This is nice
That will pass tec right there
This one, not so much
We are going to have to weld this one up
I'm just kidding
Junk
Both are junk
But I do know a guy that can fix this
I know a guy
And we all know guys
Its just so bad
This is the hall of fame
OK
So close
Then the remaining door rubbers had to be chopped
The reproduction stuff does not fit
I re-used a lot of the original components
We were able to clip the ends
You saw on the band saw
I made this one fit
And slightly chopped the reproduction inner vent window rubber
And it meets perfectly in the center
This door is done
This door is done, that door is done
Again, similar same situations
This was actually a piece of a much larger session
That went for the front door and we were able to utilize it
Everything on this table
And pretty much original stock
From the factory, this came off the donor car
But I was able to use a new front seal for that
So I dig get lucky in some of these theses
More often than not I was unsuccessful
And just had to make my own
So, lessons learned on a 190E
Going forward, if you ever restore or purchase one of these cars
And its in rough shape
Get a donor vehicle
Like that car right there
Without it
None of this would have been possible
Its actually, it's mind-blowing
Because it's like
It's a year in production
Where these vehicles still have to rise value
Or instead, appreciate in value rather
To the point where individuals are out sourcing components
And willing to pay money
So many of these factories can
How can I say?
Restart there whole entire assembly line
Specifically for making parts
New old stock for 190E's
It's just, it's just stuff right in the middle
With the next 5 years, I'm sure we'll see a lot more of that
Carbon fiber door panel is on
Inner pull support
This is to get the door closed
When you're inside
Door locks, latches and mechanisms do work
This is a clean look
It has two metal flaps on the inside
I'll show you a little more about the install
There is a ton of hardware that came with this
I don't know if I have enough screws here to do all 4 doors
But we are going to leave that for Anderson's decision
I do like the clean look
It is clipped in two areas
He is held on by the inner door handle
And also this rear latch schrout
And you also have the locking mechanism for the top of the door
So, yes
Hardware for that will stay for the time being
I have the other 3 sessions to install
They just slide on at this point
And the handles get installed
Nothing crazy
We have the suspension on the back of the vehicle
Which is
I mean
It's pretty sweet
I love this stuff
The rear sub frame
Bushings
Hardware is in a temporary fitment
I do have one more issue with the brakes
As you can see
This is the factory rotor
It sits inside the original dust shield
Its not to typical
For car manufacturers to bed the rotor inside that dust shield
However
If we were to throw our new rotor in place
We will have a massive fitment issue
You can actually hear it grinding the back
And that is after I applied a little pressure on it
Probably a little too much pressure
It is started knocking into the end-links
So, I don't want to go any further with that
I'll just have to cut it
I actually have a pen on me
Its gotta go something like
You can see it right here
And right there
Those are the main contact points
And if we were to cut it
Its going to do one of these
Come up on inside of this pen
Down and kind of just fade off
So with that said
It eliminates all the scraping and the drag
And it also allows the new rotor to go on much further
So as we go over to the front
These are massive brakes, so
These originally
Give a little back story
These were on an SL55 AMG
The conversion for this is simple
Just get large wheels
And remove your dust shields
They are massive
So, you can get the SL55 brake kit
Obviously, calipers and rotors
Or you can go with the SL55 Sport
There is no difference in diameter, I think
I think the only difference between Sport and regular line
One has cross drilled and slotted rotors
And the other one has just regular vented
So, there is no difference in diameter
So I believe, I may be corrected
We got this bad boy in place
It will require a little work
Unfortunately we will lose our safety pin somewhere on the disk
It just doesn't line up
This hole is not consistent with the hole on the back of our hub
So unfortunately
We don’t have any
As in most cases, these vehicles have this little safety screw
We don't have that here
Suspension is up in place
These are the ABS sensors
All that fun stuff
Steering wheel, we've already started laying out the pedals
We will drop the car down
Try to pull it
This is taking forever
So slow
Come on, let's go
Anderson is on his way, we don't have time for this stinking slow lift
All right
Pedal assembly is in place
I'm not sure if this will be the final assembly
It is to be determined by our friend Anderson
The steering column is in place
We have our brake booster and our master cylinder as well
And last but not least
We have our dash bar
Which also adds a ton of support from the left to the right side of the vehicle
We didn't pre-plan this one
It was done with the dash support bar out
And it was totally gutted when we put the roll-cage in
And unfortunately
We do have a couple of holes
I mean, we just totally missed the mounting location of the passenger side
Something that we've landed, I mean I want to say
It was probably just a few tenths off there
And having to rework around this corner
It all added up along the way
So what are we going to do, we are going to clip this
And make it so, it slides in
And that side should be something like, clip the ears off
And maneuver it up
If it doesn't, then we're going to have to call our friend Ricky Bobby
To come do some fantastic fabrication
Finagling
There is the rest of the interior right there
We have our dashboard still being wrapped
By our in house interiors guy, Sergio
It's taking a little too long for that dash, I kinda need it buddy
And calipers
So these rotors
These are just some Dura Last
We have our Brembo brakes on the way
The Brembo rotors
Unfortunately, it's taking us a little to much time in shipping
We've had a bunch of snow days lately
And everything seems to be taking longer than expected
So, we are going to use our mockup
Big rotors just to get the car on the ground
I’ve got some chopping and surgery to do on the inside lip here
I'll clean it up so it looks well
He will hide
I still want to have some kind of splash shield or protection
In that massive caliper, it sits right there
It is what it is, and if Anderson wants to move later
So be it, this car is coming out awesome
Excited, I have to get back to work
Because we see Anderson in 24 hours
So I forgot to give a shout out to the donor car
This is absolute savagery right now
We got the interior out
We got a section of the harness
We have a heater core on the floor
Battery tray, which we no longer need
Brake booster
We used Anderson's original brake booster
Wipers
The entire body control
Fuse junction
Right there and we have additional ECU's
We are not going to use that stuff
We might use bits and pieces of this
But for now I just want to get everything out and then
When the car is done, then we'll start throwing it away
But until then
Most of what we see here
Is usable and good stuff
It's very hard to find pieces for these vehicles
This is an original 4 cylinder
And from what I’ve learned
Is that the bottom end on this car
It's actually the same bottom end that's in our little race car
so
For what it's worth, we'll probably take that bottom end and build it sometime later
But it's just cool to know, if you have a Cosworth head
And you just have a regular 8 valve bottom end
Then you can put something together
It's the same stuff
This is why these cars are so interchangeable
I was completely mind blown, that that engine has anything to do with the motor that is on there
Dashboard out
This is what it looks like
Yes, we are going to get the a/c system and heater core out of this thing
I believe Anderson will want air conditioning in the car
If not, at least we have the option to do so
And this is what these cars look like behind the dash
It's a typical German car
There are a lot of over-engineering in this thing, I mean, like
Again, this vacuum system
That we have been so delicate with
Its just got dead mat for days
You got layers of stuff you have to pull out
Just to access most of the hard-to-find parts that we need
connectors, and so on
I have a treasure chest in the trunk
The guys have done a fantastic job on this
I got a little assistance from my people here
And I'm not sure what to do with this donor car after
I mean, it can still live on
There are still great parts on this
If they're going to keep it and do something else
Or build another car off it, I'm not sure
It's in decent condition, so
Yes, shout out to the parts car
Let's do a photo shoot with her, just one last farewell
Perfect Dashboard
Beautiful dashboard
Alright, so
Where am I stuck on?
What the fuck happened?
My friend, don't scratch the bar
OK
Oops
Take out that
I see something in this
OK
He does it like that
Your cut is where it should be
Luis's is over to the left
Good lord
Thank god this is the bare dashboard
Cut this to clear the roll bar on the inside
And also modify that inner dash brace that goes on the front of the car
This is our old crusty dashboard, the original
Out of the 190E
It's good to have a spare one
So we are not cutting into a very nice dashboard
Just guessing, I mean, we can measure
Only with so much
So obviously having a template
Means everything
Alright, round 2
Oh yes daddy
Dashboard
Round 2
Round 2
That one is in
More
We're really going to have to
Murder this dash?
Or murder the corner at least
All the way
We might as well, right?
Yes
There's nothing, there's no mounting tab on the end, so
Oh, damn
Full send
Yes
We can always add and rebuild later, but
If we keep ourselves symmetrical on both sides
Then it will obviously look all right
I think I got it
There's a hole here that I'm trying to line up just to get an idea
I think
That's not bad
I think it might have to come
I feel like it's a little bit
To the right
Yes
There's a mounting hole right here, tab
I think its got to go right there
And then forward
So it still has to go forward
If this position is correct
You see, there is a little dash mount under here
Under the corner, so
This little guy here
And you might have one
Is there another one there?
If there's another little tab right here
I mean
This dashboard comes way off to the edge
I don't know
Honestly, it's
It's that screw right there
Speaker
That’s speaker screw
Maybe
so
Lets take a little more out of there
So after murdering this old crusty dash
We realized two things
The dash had to go a little further in than expected
So, we trimmed out the inner side of the speaker, it's not a problem
We can also cap this off
When we finish the new dashboard, it will look a lot cleaner
This area down here
What is the lower dash support
The dash support itself
It's going to have to go in roughly, I want to say, half an inch
So we're going to have to slightly modify this bar
And then tie it in to the area of the roll cage
And lastly, it will also add a lot of stability
For what it's worth, so
So its also a bit gift and the car is here
The screws
Align a little
We should have a re-union
We should have a what?
A re-union
A re-union for what?
Bring all the good guys together
We get PJ
Bro, this shit is on record right now
Bro, don't get me started on PJ
Please
Please
He will be going
We will have a quinceañeros for them, so
What?
Celebrate them growing up
The only Spanish one here is Ricky
OK, awesome
Is it good
looks good
The car way the up there
He is weird
Characters
Hell yeah
Dirty
Your dirty motherfucker
Hell yeah
Scary bastard
All right
Do we need to fit the dash again?
Or we Gucci?
No, okay, I just need to do the back side
And it's awesome
So going and cleaning the inside of the door jams
This is the paint line in the transition
From the rear to the front
I sprayed it twice
And if you are in a situation where you have a sharp paint line
Simply grab a piece of cardboard
Any old cardboard
And just rub the edge
And what it will do, is actually file down
All of your sharp paint edges that are sharp will wear off the paint
Obviously, if you're RoboCop and you're sanding this at a million miles an hour
You will do some damage
But this is the safest, easiest and most effective way
And cost effective way to clean all this up
Doing this before the doors go on the car
We are good
19 inch Rotiform wheels
These things are chunky
We just got them on for the first time with the new suspension
And here is the front wheel
Right there
Going up, right here
We took a measurement 0.3 seconds ago
And the distance of the wheel
Lightly touches the inside of the strut
So
Or the outside rather
I want to be sure we are not just throwing it up there and and its banging on back of this beautiful wheel
So, I’m guessing it is 3, if we can take anything out
Here
See if our calculations are correct
It's a huge wheel
Holy shit
Yes
How far?
Yes, it's probably like, maybe 2
Can we remove it?
But it's not much
I will measure with a micrometer
Just get a close estimate later, but
This is the say-bar in place
Front suspension
We have our ABS sensors
We have our steering components
And lower control arms
Let's put the doors on it, I'll get the car on the ground
And it's almost 10 PM
We have a little more to go underneath
Under the back, as you can see
We have our hardware in there, fresh
We have the rear strap, as we had to compress the control arms in the back
And we didn't want this thing to going flying forward
So, good old trusty strap
On the upper door hinge for safety
This is crazy these wheels are nuts
19, 19
Still, I've seen 18 people, but never 19 people in person.
Yes
Good
Good?
See that other side
So
We will definitely have to move the car out of the way
Looks good
We have to tighten that up
Yes
That's why, this thing is slamming around
She is loose
Just stand on it
Up and down
So all of this brace, you can zoom in on some of these welds
Just show it up close
Ricky was able to
These are the ones Ricky did today
He was able to size this up
He clipped both mounts off, both plates
And its actually going to be be, its going add a lot more rigidity to the chassis
Instead of just bolting into the side of the inner door structure
I mean, there is nothing stronger and more stable than obviously, than a roll-cage so
Mounting it direct, less flex
Adds more rigidity and strength to the cage
We cut the inner speaker wells
To get this to clear
I'll be honest with you, this panel is for sacrificial purposes only
And it did its job well
Everything seems to clear the way it should
Headlight switch clears
This is the new dashboard, which we got it wrapped, if Sergio finishes it ever
Then, it will have similar contours
But what we will do, we will keep a lot of the inside structure of the speaker well
So that it encapsulates more of the corner of the roll cage, does not look so
There won't be a huge hole there
But it's nice, it should stay there, right?
This way
Lower it
Yes, you can lower it now
This is insane dude
The movement in this thing, you see how far it just
Look at how adjustable the suspension is
It's insane
Its not obviously, it's not clamped down super tight now, it's just for tolerances and see where we can
And difference
But
It's all there
It's totally and absolutely amazing
This stuff is crazy
For a stock
For like a stock, blot-on upgrades
To the rear and changing some end links
That is a lot
Yes
We go forward first, and then we slide it back
Keep going, yeah
Look at that
I'm amazed, like
Usually when I see some shit like this driving down the street
Something broke in the rear of the car
Or they screwed it up on purpose
Wow
That is crazy
It's impressive
Cover on
Anderson just showed up
He walked by with his crew
Crossed the front
He has yet to see the car in its current condition
What we're going to do is wrap it
So when he walks through
That door there
He has no idea whats about to hit him, so
Hopefully he likes what he sees
I’ve been a little behind schedule
For many reasons
That I probably don't even have enough time in the day to discuss
Needless to say here we are, we're back
And he'll be excited to see the progress
See his natural reaction
You guys are going to experience it with him for the first time
Okay, you guys seen already
I haven't seen anything
Can I see now?
Yes, let's get the natural reaction
Natural reaction, so
Look there, it's there
It's there under the cover
So this is the donor car
Yes
Obviously
This is the donor
We have dropped the sub frame in this thing multiple times
We're getting bits and pieces of hardware where we need it
Sessions of, oh no
Battery
Ahh
Don't worry
Let me get a battery
Hardware here and there, brake lines
Some of the pre-bent stuff
Its all in good condition, we can scuff it down
And replace it
Air conditioning system which was complete
In case you do decide to put A/C in it
We like to have option, obviously
One thing you need to save on this
A custom GoPro mount
And it's adjustable
Good
I need to save this engine block on that later
Yes and I know
Because, both of these blocks are
Hard to find
Very hard to find
And they are the same engine
So
Just the head is different
I learned a lot in my Mercedes days
Yes, so the donor car is there
We are still going through it
Harness, heater core box
Vacuum system
Can you see this fragile vacuum system
If it cracks as it comes out
Yup
If that line is cracked anywhere, it's no good
Yes
So you can see these fittings
It's just a regular vacuum hose
It's a compression style
Yup
So, updated version
But there are also some differences in this car
That put up a fight
Anyways, so
Can I take the cover off?
Yes, it's your car
Course
Look here
Yes
That's all we get
We are going to put it back now
I liked that
Oh, the brakes
Those mirrors are something that
Yes
They are special mirrors, but
They will work with it
We will work with it
Look in the rear view mirrors
Yup
Are those the new glasses?
Many of the pieces are new
Whatever we could find from Mercedes
We replaced
Everything else
That was unavailable
Obviously were discontinued
I have a pile of glass pieces here
OK
Tons of glass that we went through
So we ordered some
Some new ones where we can find
And anything else
We sourced best possible replacement on-line
And we went with cleaning it up
There's a lot of sanding, buffing
And now the door cladding and the rockers
Getting doors on and the alignment
Have the strikers that are all
On that car, I still have to weld some additional bars on the inside
Door card is test fitted over here
There's, we had a few
A few fun aspects
I will explain later
And a lot
Some of that trim is actually used and old
We made all the rubber look new
Because a lot of it is discontinued
Or reproduction is not measured in the same metric
Oh
So you need a parts car for a lot of this stuff
This panel
There was no force or pressure here
But it's starting to naturally crack
Maybe because of the amount of clear they used, I'm not sure
But this will be part of
We can paint this section
Yup
Probably in a gloss black
And do the line here
And then the line goes there
Its easy
So there's a method to the madness
On some of it
Yup
There are also a lot of hardware that go on the door
That I didn’t install yet
Because it looks a little too chrome
Flashy
The door handles
Mechanisms, keys do work
Yup
But this is your
The new key?
That is your key
We swapped the ignition
From this car to this one
Because of the vacuum system
And the latching mechanisms are a slightly different
Because we use the door handles
Yes, you're talking here
OK
The dashboard was the original dashboard
OK
But we had to cut and reshape it a few times
Because on the other side of this
Was your dashboard brace
And it didn't fit any longer
Because of the roll cage
So we clipped it
And we welded it directly to your roll cage
But in the factory position
Yup
Then we began to assemble the pedal box
We began to assemble some of the steering
Obviously, as you see
The suspension on this car
Is amazing
It's all, looks all very brand new under there
Photos and videos before installation
Oh yes
1 bolt, one hardware down
I want hydro, vapor
And make it look nice
I replaced some of it
It's loose now, because I wanted to show you the movement on this
But you can
If you had Anderson, you could take this wheel
And this is just
Look how much this thing will, the adjustment
Ahem, you can really play with the alignment
Unbelievable, it's almost like a dedicated track car suspension
Very adjustable
Rear calipers are not on it
The adapter plates are not exactly as I like them
We're just dialing those in
Front calipers went on
Because the front caliper are just a spacer
Yup
they just have a shim behind them
But the hubs
When you put the hubs on
There are some aspects of the hubs
That you have to nip a little bit off
To get that rotor on
So it's the SLK55 not sport brakes
Yup
The sport brakes, I believe might be just ever so slightly different in diameter
Yup
And the non sport are
Cross drilled
Cross drilled and slotted
Very small, small, but
Small in consistency
That just make big changes
And the overall geometry of the suspension, so
It's crazy
And we called the Mercedes dealer
Don't you want the Sport brakes?
Because it's something custom, they're better
No, we can't because the tolerances are so tight
But these are, I have not seen a 19 inch on this car
Yup
Are there any others?
I never seen
On these vehicles
Yes and honestly, I
I feel like, I know it's almost to the limit
Especially to touch
But I love the size
It looks perfect, yes
It looks perfect
And the color of these Rotiform wheels are amazing
Awesome
I love it
And we started doing, the say bars, let them in the front
Say-bars mounted in the rear
Under the hood, we began to
Obviously, you can see some of the
Yes
We put the hood hinges on it in place
The brake booster is in place
It should just sit back right there
The vapor hole on valve cover has a little more touch up to do
But it's not, it's less aggressive than a sand blasting
Because its magnesium and you can't
These things, they obviously naturally deteriorate
So you have to be very delicate with them
Obviously suspension
Coil-over, everything is very easily adjustable
There, we can get all the travel we need out of these
Yes, there has just been
A continuous pressing of all bushings and changing the hub bearings
Fun fun, fun
It's amazing equipment
The bad stuff is that all the reproduction is garbage
Like, your door seals, and I have a lot of that stuff on camera, but
Oh
For example, this is my
This is my wall of shame right here
These door seals
Look at the size of that door seal
Massive
And it is measured and spec’s on a different measurement scale
It's not the same as what's in there
So when am I go to put this rubber in
It wouldn't allow the windows to go up and down
Oh
And this is directly from the guys supposed to know the most
So a lot of what you see there, we clean ourselves
And made new
All your locking mechanisms
The windows go up and down, everything has been tested
I tested the regulators, the motors I greased
All the key locks work
Harnesses are done
The remaining section of the door harnesses would be obviously, window switch
The connections are there
And the hard plastic vacuum lines
The central system that runs from the front of the vehicle to the absolute back
Where the trunk
Your fuel system obviously goes here
I left this raw
We will clean the edges and frame it
The way it should be
And all this will gets, you know
Polished and clean
The entire underside of the car was made with rocker guard
OK
And a protectant
So when you're driving on the street, it won't be as abrasive
It's loud, its going to make the car feel more solid
So that's where we essentially re began the process
Was the underside
Stripping and cleaning of the underside and spraying
Making it look presentable
And obviously protect it
This is her original dash
It said 181 thousand miles
The car, the donor there
139 thousand
Their difference is that one shows 140 miles per hour and the other 160
This here is the original instruments that I had in my car
Very hard to find now
It's very hard to find one of those
Did you see it along with me
Pulled the car cover
It's exciting to see the car
Obviously, everyone is anxious about wanting to see it ready soon
I didn't know exactly what state I was going to come out from under the cover
And you look at it like this
There are a lot of things that have been done
But there's still a lot of things left to be done
So
The cool things
Obviously, the entire suspension
Like it or not, it was a lot of work
We had to buy two suspensions
Had to take a lot of things out of the other car
Had to mount the brakes right here
Various things, the height of the car
Managed to match correctly
Engine here in place, it already looks like things are falling into place
This part of the doors here
Really, gives a
We had to buy another car
To remove the original rubber parts
Because the parallels weren't working
I was showing here
These ones were all gaskets
Most of them are new
New glass gaskets that I bought, reproduction
That doesn't let the window close
She doesn't have the right measurements, you know?
Another reason why we had to get the rubbers from the donor car
Here for example, key parts and things that don't appear
That he was explaining to me
This here is the hinges
Here are the key locks
That they change here
They made a whole combination so I could use a key
In all, in the trunk, on the door, on the ignition
These are little things that take work
This one for example
It's the door mechanism
They are different
One is from the donor car here
Another is from the other, it has a different angle
Ends up getting
These pieces here, to close the doors
All the windows here, it took some work to make the mechanism close
And one thing he was explaining
In this car, the locks are all vacuum operated
For example, this here
It's the system that comes in my car
And the new system
It's a system, instead of this hose being fitted from above, it is a quick release
Which is better then they took it all from the donor
And they put it there
Here you see the door handles and trims
All these pieces have to be fixed, they have to be done
You have to get them up to date
Here they are
Mechanisms, for example, for the windows
The window buttons
There was a window that wasn't working
All panels here
I was showing it before
All panel finishes
The pieces here, the plates
The original door cards
What does each one do
That door card back there, it's a carbon fiber
And she will do
Does the trim finishing
Here on the side are the side stirrups
The windows, they managed to use
So, we were able to put new glass in practically everything
New windows here
All mechanisms here inside the door and lock
Everything as you do
The dash that is here
It's the dashboard that comes in the car, it was really in a very bad condition
But they only put it to cut because of roll cage
And to understand
And there are two panels, there is one that we had bought
This one
Or is this one from the donor car?
He is in much better condition
You see it's even surprising
The state of it, I'll tell you I wouldn't even need to cover it
If you want to keep it
But we are unsure about covering it with Alcantara
Here we have the seats to put in place
They're down here
These are the car seats
These are the bucket seats you sit in the back
I joke that I want it to have 5 seats so I can take the kids
To go for a drive
There are the front seats
They will be fixed
And these ones have Alcantara in the middle
We want to make it match that
Door linings
I already showed
It's in the car there, they're made of carbon fiber
It's exposed, it's even translucent, you can see
And here's the carpet
The dog is here smelling
I really wanted to see the car finished
I want to see the finished car
But the reasons I came here is so I can see it in person
Because there's no connection, a phone call is something you can't
Simply sort everything out in the car
So you have to stop, come and look and see what you need
Where its stuck, I think the
Bringing and getting the donor car was one of the biggest leaps
So I can make the car move on, you know
Now we need to think what are the next steps
And how do you see
I have my list
Ill send you my whole list
Yes
OK
I kept it the notepad on
On a few things I can remove now
Because we actually made more progress, but
But you know
E.T.A, expectations
And also
You know, a few personal preferences
If you want to go with a seat belt harness
The localization
If you are going to run the SwitchPanel
Which wires, and can I extract the unnecessary stuff
Yes
And it will be much more seamless
Pain free
Moving from here
One thing I was debating
Do you have anybody to do the golden painting?
Yes
On that car
Yes
OK
I have my ideas and I have the people, but
I’ve seen a couple of renders
Yes we need to go find the final render
Yes, we need one final render
Because once that goes on
Yes, absolutely
There's no turning back
Yes
So a lot personal preference things
Outside the suspension, the brakes
You know
We can give the suspension and brakes 1 week from being complete
I have all brake lines, again
It wouldn't be possible without this car
We were able to get so many items
door switches
And again, brake lines
Small rubbers, bushings
Its really, just picking this thing apart
Until that car is done
Yes, there are some animals back there
Quite a few
It was like a hotel back there
Yes
I don't know how they got back there
It's like in and down and under the heater box
So, it's hard to imagine that this car was just running
Running like that
Yes, I was just running
But I think the next step of where we are with this
I was going to pull these latches off today
So the doors to lock, close and open
Done
And
And the dashboard strategy
Preparing the harness, SwitchPanel
Just answers from you on that
I would say the wipers, probably keep the oem
OEM wipers, that's why we pulled them out of this car
These are oem wipers
And even the control for them
It's probably ok to be the oem
The harness on it is a peculiar plug
We have his female end of it
So if you wanted to
Directly to the SwitchPanel
By cleanliness, we could
OK
Or the original one that is on the steering column
So
Brake booster is good
We do have to rebuild the front brake calipers
Replacements, AMG brake calipers that we use for the SLK
Two of the seals, one on each cup
They were just bleeding trough
So
I recommend rebuilding that obviously
That would be next, I'll just rebuild all 4
We have the remainder of the brake system
I mean, really it's just electrical, interior, brakes
The pipe is going to be easy for the intercooler
There does need to be 2 mounts made at the bottom
We were just using hock puck
Remember that we have, the intercooler piping on this side is done
We have to, the intercooler is ready
And the fan, I believe Vini has to began taking a look at this
Yes
But again, that is with or without a/c
So that also might dictate the placement
Oh, here
Rear calipers
Rear brakes here
The size of the rotors
Are night and day difference
Ah, the front
Oh, the OEM
The OEM compared to that
It is unbelievable
These rotors that are on there now
Are just test rotors
They are regular Duralast rotors
But
Because Brembo
Had a back order on the actual rotor itself
So yes, we had
We wanted to upgrade things where we could
These are the original end links
Ball joints
We have Intercooler
We have more bushings, we have more links
We had two different kits
So we had some from Ground Control
And both components
They were bonuses of one
And they were downsides of the other
So we did a blend
Correct
A blend of the best
Look, that's the new rear brakes
That we took from a Mercedes, an SL, something like that
And that's the
Yes, rear
Previous brake
SLK55 and this is the factory
What year is this car, do you know?
This is a 91 I believe
Oh, this is a newer one
Yes, it's a 90
93
Oh 93
Yes
This is actually the last
One of the last years, yeah
Because that is a 86
One of the last years
This is an 86 and this is a 93
This Mercedes is one of the latest years
So actually
You are following, I'm trying to digest it all
Piece of this, piece of that, piece of that other
Obviously, whoever sees from outside
Thinks, just put it together
But even having an entire car to remove a lot of parts like that
You end up having to adapt a lot of little things
Having to make it easier
I'll say this
My feeling, I'm thinking it's going to take longer than I expected
So here's the thing
We are analyzing everything that needs to be done in the car
To understand
Let's say this
Myself, making several cars in my life
I'm impressed with the complexity of this project
And it is, look
I already regretted it once
I almost regret starting this project
I almost regret it again
Because I think it's a lot of work
But what motivates me to finish this project
That’s really the purpose of this project
Which is really a car that has a whole feel of homage to Senna
There's this whole connection with Brazilians
I will repeat this again because it is what motivates me to continue and do it
But
It's cool that I'm managing to motivate Colton
Of working on the car this year
He had a lot
Last year, he had a lot of professional setbacks
He got involved a lot with Diego Higa here in the USA
The whole challenge that was Diego's debut in Formula Drift
It was a very difficult season
For those who follow Formula Drift, you know
And they are partners, the car was his
He followed, I think he is Diego's agent here too
So it was a challenging year
He had to, for several months he didn't even work on the car
He stood still and I knew it
It wasn't something I thought he was working on
That's why the car stayed here for 10 months
And during that period he worked for weeks
A few months, so to speak, on the car
And a lot where he got stuck
It was because he didn't have the donor car with the parts either
I was trying to buy, and we get stuck
And anyone who works on projects knows what it’s like
When you get stuck
When you see, you are stuck
So, ok
It was a difficult year
But now, what we are trying is the following
How are we going to efficiently finish the car?
With all the conditions he needs to complete the car
And we can bring this car to FuelTech USA
And do the final part of it there
That will be the electrics
What will it be, obviously tuning
There will be these mostly mechanical parts of the engine
Put in the engine, forge it
The gearbox, you have to check the gearbox
Do a lot of things, drive shaft
There's a lot of mechanical stuff here to do
But before that, he'll have to focus on the car
Let me even show you here
While you were
While I was talking off camera, he showed me the dashboard
Even let me show you here, there are some cool cars
Just look
Land Rover here, 110
What is this here? its a
I don't even know what truck that is
Bronco, I don't know
It's not a Bronco, the Bronco is short
Yes
They have it here
This one is also a strange one here
A turbocharged LS
He is building this with FuelTech
But this car here
Who knows Mercedes?
It was a coupe
That he made a wagon
It was a project
Look here, he adapted
Put a whole wagon back here
Put a whole wagon rear end on a coupe
Because this is a car that Mercedes made in collaboration with some shopping mall
A company in the past
For a show
And this car disappeared after the show, no one ever found it
They say it's the missing Mercedes
A Mercedes that is
And there's a guy who's a collector from the region who wanted to make one exactly like it from the era
But here, this is the Mercedes dashboard, so
Here he is
This one is the dash itself
They already cleaned it
They removed all the material
And here its wrapped in Alcantara
So, he will do everything here
The stitches are already in place here
So its being built
Here, they do a lot of this upholstery stuff
Everything molded
Cool
So, there is this whole part of the panel that they have to do
Upholstery on the seats
The golden paint
Of the details we want to make of the Mercedes on the outside
We have to give him the final design
Even, Luiz
Right, Luiz from FuelTech design is responsible for this art
Let's pass him the final render
Because he's going to call the guy who's going to paint that
In gold on her
It will not be a decal
So, there's this whole part that only he can do
The moment he manages to finish that
And the idea is the following
He will work on it until he, in quotes, gets stuck on something
As far as he can
When he doesn't manage to
If, for example, if he starts to get very busy during the year
If the, I don't know, the Formula Drift season has started
Other things and he cant work on the car
Then I take the car to FuelTech and we finish
Because from where we are now here
Some way or another, we manage to finish the car at FuelTech USA
Obviously, the more he can work on it
It will be better
So, this will be our challenge now for the next
Let's then
Now I'm going to sit down with him and make a list and analyze things
And understand that
I will, in the mean while
I'm going to take a break so we can have lunch too
Then I'll come back, because I want to
In a little while I'll show you the new cars he has here in his collection
In the showroom, you'll go crazy
Oh, the last details we're discussing
We have the grill option
The front grille
This one is like an original style
Is that original, or yes
It might be, it appears to be an official Mercedes-Benz
Oh
This a replacement I bought
Or this one
So let's do this one
This one is a special grid from the 80s and 90s
The guys used
We're going to make it, paint it black
And here in gold, this symbol here
Lets see
Cool, okay
Awesome
If you allow me, I will do a walk through your collection
Of course
I always get some updates
At any time
It has to be a special occasion
Thank you for everything
Thank you very much
Thanks for having me
Yeah, thanks for the lunch
I really
Oh no
And March
Yes
We're taking the car and you are coming to my place
Let's go
OK
Let's go
Deal?
Yes deal!
OK
Deal
How much horsepower is it going to make?
I think the transmission is the limit
But around 500, it should
That's a good, solid number
That should be good
500, maybe in C85
Oh, for sure
Sweet, okay
Now here's the thing, let Colton work there
We agreed to leave it on video
8 weeks, he will work a lot on it
And she goes to FuelTech
End of March
It will be at FuelTech and we will continue from there
It's registered
Here, let me take you on a tour now
Show some of the new cars in the collections here at the Redline workshop
This Pontiac here
I thought it was very cool
It is a Formula 350, which is a special series
Very mint, everything, wheels from the time period
The car, look
Very cool, I liked it
I would have one of these in my collection
This is a Charger
That he is building the whole chassis and suspension
He's putting this engine here, which is the Hellaphant
That they say
Look at the brakes, how cool
The front suspension
It's very cool
And the entire chassis really did the whole rotisserie thing, as they call it
It's really extensive work
Now here's the thing
Let's take a walk around this room
'Cause every time I pass here, I go crazy
Let's take a walk here, because there are these really cool cars
That we always see here
And I'll start here with Diego Higa's
Iconic car owned by a Brazilian
This car belonged to Colton and is racing in Formula Drift again
Let's see how it will be
Last year was a mission, but cool
BMW M3 E36
Jaguar XJ220
This one, very rare
Oh, look here
Look at this Porsche
Ford GT
Damn
This car has 280 miles on it if I'm not mistaken
280
How many million is this car worth?
Oh
Millions
About 2, 3
Don't even touch it
There's a new Roma here
Wait a second
Ferrari
What Porsche is this?
Let's take it easy
This one, brand new
It's big
Here is 11 TTS
Look, that RS has 85 miles on it
A GT3 RS
Yes
Here, a Ferrari Roma
What is this here, a 599?
Superamerica
This is
Check this one out
Now that I saw it, passing by
A Dino
But is this original?
Original
Damn, I thought it was lower level, the cars back here
No no
It actually raised the bar
I don't even look at the Ferrari’s here, they are all common
Damn, is there a Testarossa there?
Not a 599
500 and
No, 575 Maranello
Look, wow, these Mercedes are really cool
Inaudible
Cool
Ah, this rally EVO here
This belongs to Colton
Let's see him get in there now
Oh, it's the other side
Oh yes
Mercedes
McLaren back there
Morgan
Corvette, McLaren
Wow, these Porsche’s, I think they're really cool
This the famous
Why?
Look
Burns two liters of oil per day
Oh, the GT3
That's a car right there, okay?
That's a car
That Hemi was in the showroom the other time
Man, that's cool too
This is an American car
But I was in France
Oh yes?
Yes, he was at a race in France
Henri Chemin
Look, a Pontiac here
This one is the best
Oh, Anderson
You that like jalopy’s
These are those Fords that come with almost 3 bar of boost
Oh, that's cool
This car has a nickname
Widow, something like that, black widow
Rolls
Rolls-Royce
Black Widow
What?
Black widow
Black widow, that's it
Man, this is cool
It's a 993
It is very cool
This is the version that comes with a lot of boost
Oh yes?
From the factory, like this
If I'm not mistaken, it's 3 bar, or 2.8
Damn
Let me see something
Wow, what a thing
Check the smell
Yup
The door is like from a Gol
It's no use
Yes
Ferrari Mondial there
Oh, this is my dream too
850i
Hi V12 Bmw
This is on the list
This is the continental
Is it for sale?
Do you know the price?
Yeah, this is his
Better not to ask the price
Go into a deal
What if
What else is for sale here that you know?
Everything here is for sale
Kind of everything
But there is something
A Landau here?
But, for example
50 thousand and lower, for example
Oh no
There's not much then
Yep, that one
Yes
You think?
I think so
He got it, if you ask Jeff
Yes
And this one nice or not?
Is that manual or automatic?
Automatic
But Luís must have a list of parts
To convert to Manual
And a flange for the 10 speed
Look at the phone
It's ringing for you here Anderson
Oh, there is it's telephone
Damn
How cool huh
No, I think it's better not to ask the price
Yes
Morgan
This one is owned by Colton's father
Oh yes?
Damn
Firebird, VW camper van
Look, this truck is really cool, GM
The whole thing, look
They made everything out of wood, brand new here
Cool
Here is Colton's collection of cars
There's one secret there
The last car there, I know what it is
It's covered, you can't uncover it
I won't say
I know what it is
I know it's a secret, that Colton won't let anyone show it
But there are all the cars here
And look, for those who remember
We installed FT on this car in a Saturday morning here
Yes
There was an episode of this that was really cool
We put it on the dynamometer there, it made
How much did it make?
700 wheel
I don't remember now
It was a lot
It was something like that
500 on the wheels, 500 and a little
590
And the car is working properly, cool
This one is cool
There are famous ones here
I won't even remove it
If you want
It is not necessary
All the cars there
The Top Secret
Look, Diego is filming
Turn the camera to film you
Can you show yourself or not?
Diego, our media to one
Guy who does all the animations
Today he is accompanying me especially here
You can see that today's material is different
Here, I like to bring only the talented guys
On the other visit Rabbits came
Now Diego
All the other folks also came
Luiz from design has already accompanied me here
Luis de Leon as well
So there is a
Here there is content to always bring good people to document this
I've been through all these cars
I made an episode specifically showing them all
Colton practically told me his story
So
Obviously I'm not going to return and I'm not going to say that again, but
Who wants to see this episode
There's a special episode here on Redline
In the JDM Supreme collection
So
Air cooled engine
Corvair
This is a GM air cooled engine
I can open it, the one with the pulley
My, do you know what that's like?
Air engine, right?
Air cooled engine, 6 cylinders at the rear
It's a boxer, right?
It's a boxer
This was dangerous at the time
Because, look, the engine is here
And there's nothing up in the front
Oh
So at the time, you turned and the car went straight
Oh
Killed a lot of people
Really?
And I don't remember the exact story
But some deputy or politician banned the sale of this car
He is a member of congress
And his daughter died
Oh
Prohibited
Banned cars from
That's why it was dangerous
Rear engine
This, Colton's Porsche is really cool
Very cool
This car is cool
Well, the Top Secret
Old Maserati there
Corvette here
This car is cool too
308
Modernized old Bronco
An E30 convertible
C8 here, nice but ordinary
I'm upset with mine
We made a quick visit here
Show a little of Redline
And see Mercedes
I'm sure everyone is
Everyone who likes this car
Who likes this project
That is looking forward for it
Due to the same anxiety, he also wants to see this car ready
You can be sure that I am most interested in seeing this car finished
Colton, I'm happy that now I think he's going to make a move
He worked a lot on the car
He was very busy for a very long time last year
And the car is also a huge job
But now we have some dates that we will try to meet
I put him under pressure
He promised to work on the car from here, straight on
Let's see how the car will progress over the next 8 weeks
And I intend to have this car with me at FuelTech USA
Before April, end of March
So I can work on that car
In the next months
And this car has to be finished this year
For sure
And if possible, by May
For us to have this anniversary of Senna's farewell in style
So
I'm glad I came
I'm excited about the project
I'm encouraged to see that there is progress, its coming along
One thing that bothers me
When things stand still
That we don't have much control
Obviously, this car is far from my direct control
But at the same time, you have to trust
I trust Colton, I trust the Redline team
And the project is turning out really insane
And it's also the following
It's always a good excuse to come here at Redline
Here in Connecticut
And see these wonderful cars
Chat with Brazilians who live nearby
I'm really happy
Also thank Diego who accompanied me this weekend
And lots of missions there
You will see more materials
It's really cool
I hope you enjoyed
And see you next episode
Goodbye
