casino is the name
hey yo what's going on right now you're
watching casino is the name and i'm
sitting here with miss tamika turner and
she is a serial entrepreneur in this
video we're going to talk about
assisted living facilities she has
several businesses we're actually going
to do a series or a couple videos with
her
because she have about what four
or four she has four businesses she's a
serial entrepreneur she's full-time and
in this video we're going to talk about
the big guy we're going to talk about
assisted living facilities a lot of
people out there have some questions
i don't know a whole lot about this
and what you don't know is i have an
associate's degree in healthcare
management okay i have my bachelor's in
accounting but i was planning on
starting an assisted living facility so
this is good information even for me all
right but let's talk about the money
okay okay so the money part the money
part
you know yes so okay
how much money
potentially can a
person make i guess with
an assisted living facility okay tight
business can you make a million dollars
well
potentially
for established business yes there are
potentially you can it's lucrative you
can make over a million dollars once you
are an established agency okay okay so
let's say first year what kind of
i guess things can i expect
okay so first year um just getting the
home
getting the home ready because you don't
you know we have to think about when we
get older or a place where we're
comfortable so you want your residents
comfortable
you want your staff to want to work at
their residence okay so you know when
i'm doing my home i'm just making sure
it's comfortable i'm making sure it's a
place that i would be able to sleep in
to live in so when i'm buying furniture
not getting cheap furniture okay getting
good furniture um licensing permits
planning and zoning so definitely you
have to have capital like planning yes
definitely planning so don't get in this
like okay i'm gonna do this real quick
it takes patience okay sacrificing okay
to make these things happen and
definitely networking okay so how much
would you know one need to get into this
business let's say i'm starting super
small
right super small okay i would
definitely say own your home
okay um so let's start with your own
home yeah start with your own home do
not rent out anyone home because you
don't want your clients evicted gotcha
yeah
so don't don't do that um but
buying it through the business or we're
talking about
turning say this is my home right yes
and you could turn this turning this
home into an assisted living into
assistant living home so yes you would
need at least i would say 25k if not
more okay yeah to start it from getting
the home getting it furnished putting
furniture in a home
doing your license permit
staff
policies and procedures it's so much
that can go in it um most people hire a
consultant like me so i'm also a
consultant i'm gonna help build the
business gotcha and we're gonna talk
about that yes
yeah because she also has a consulting
business yeah we're definitely talking
so okay so 25k starting
you want to own your own you want to own
the home so the cat don't get evicted
because
a landlord may say yeah
exactly and it happens a lot where the
landlord say hey i'm ready to sell this
house not necessarily want it back but
they may have other plans and they may
need that home okay so you want to make
sure that it's your home so you can do
what you need if you want to change it
renovate add-on no one can tell you what
to do and plus you need the owner to
start a personal care home so even when
you're filling out the application you
have to have the owner of the house
information as well and so they won't
even let you open up a home without
having that honor information no i'm
curious right like
i don't know if this falls in that same
category but when i was doing some
research back when i was in school for
my associates
is it like a radius thing like you can't
be too close to another assistant yes so
it has to be a thousand feet apart oh
that's not far yeah i mean i mean that's
smart i mean yeah it's not bad like yeah
you couldn't have a thousand feet
so you could have it in multiple
yeah yeah but they just can't be a
thousand feet yeah okay and then not
only that some
well they they have it measured okay so
that's why i say you have to call
planning and zoning so even when if
you're gonna rent the property if you're
gonna buy the property always call
planet zone in first the county to see
if you can
open that home as a personal care home
see that's good information yeah i
didn't know that like i i remember the
radius thing but i didn't know first
step call zoning to see if they're
asking exactly and it has to be a
certain square foot of the home certain
square foot of homes require more
um
uh have more requirements like you may
like say if you want a a home with six
people okay you have to have fire
extinguishers
versus a home with three people you
don't have to have that oh so also like
a place in gwinnett county gwinnett
county you have to have an acre of land
which is almost impossible to find
because most of the homes were eight
acres
yes
in the atlanta area yeah so but that's
just in gwinnett but in the cab county
you don't have to have acre land okay so
you have to when you're opening up your
homes you need to
go to plan in the zone and do your
research first to see what other
requirements okay and so outside of like
zoning requirements and things like that
like let's say
i opened a facility in
i don't know cobb county
will call county make me more money than
say opening a facility in
henry county
no because guess what everybody needs
help everywhere
so that's why
exactly
yeah home healthcare is like the number
one industry i mean we we all get all
right and so we're always home we have
boomers right now right exactly we
always don't need home health care
you're always going to need nurses so it
doesn't matter where you open up your
home guess what somebody is calling
looking for placement i get calls all
the time so and that's another thing you
have to network in this business don't
think that okay i'm just going to open
up a home health care and it's going to
take off you have to know people and you
have to network and you have to put
yourself out there so that's why you
have to have a good home okay you have
to be comfortable because that's what
people know me as if you go to miss
turner a home that she helped put
together in anything they know that home
is nice clean nice furniture
and then they're going to be calling
like okay i know you you have a nice
home i want to put my people in your
home gotcha so i think she's serious
right now i am
but uh but so like you also
do partnerships like let's say i was
somebody who was looking at doing it i
ain't really you don't know everything
yeah i know you know what you're doing
yeah would you be open to partnering
with somebody yes i'm definitely that's
how we um all help each other and help
people we help each other and then we
help the people so yeah get a partner
yes
partnership helping people find homes
buying the homes for them i'm doing that
now right yeah buying a home for someone
who you know they couldn't purchase the
home on their own so now we're in
partnership i'll get the home for you
and now we can take care of these
clients and make money together that's
dope
yeah that she is
not only finding the place but they
can't afford to buy it yeah what kind of
partner is this but i'm just like a
partnership okay
i'm not gonna get into that business
yeah
[Music]
it's my business but it's all our
business yeah yeah right right yeah
yeah so because that kind of partner is
probably the kind of partner i would be
i'm like yeah you get to build a
building and you uh buy it for us you
know
anyway yeah okay so
i don't want to get too deep into your
numbers oh okay i want to get so deep
into your numbers but what percentage of
payroll
i only want to say that how much i'm
just i'm going to ask a different
question so we don't get into her real
numbers yeah
how much is payroll per month
oh payroll can run me between
40k to
50 but 60k a month and that's just
because
hold up
she's paying 40 to 60 000
per month
out
yes in in just
labor okay this is that's
that's payroll guys okay yeah he's
paying 40 000 to 60. because they come
first your staff always comfortable
they get paid before me yeah and that's
usually the bulk of most businesses
anyways is uh payroll but yeah she's
able the fact that you're able to pay 40
to 60 thousand on time is is just well
i'm just trying to show them
that this is like a real it's a
lucrative business this is a real thing
yeah yeah see do you have any do you
work do you work for anybody do you have
any job
like i work for myself um a partnership
with people yeah no i just mean like you
don't go clock in anyway oh no no no a
complete she's completely an
entrepreneur she's out here yeah she's
paying 40 to 60 000 and this is in one
of her businesses per month yeah just
one yeah she has four okay yeah so um
you know and then she's getting ready to
open up a fifth with the airbnb yeah
airbnb
taxes i mean yeah which we're going to
get into that yeah so imagine this
though right imagine if you were
somebody out there and you started you
got with her you started an assisted
living facility right and
you were able to pay 40 to 60 000 in
payroll
you could be hiring your mom
which i do
okay i believe in hiring family first i
actually hired my dad and brother to do
the renovation for my home
so when i brought the home i hired them
first to renovate it um put the money
back in your family pocket i hired
sisters cousins and that's why i was
first starting off um cash app
so i had to get away from that
yeah so i was paying family members to
help me when i first first started and
um so once i started and you know now i
got payroll and everything now um i have
staff that's there now and some are
still family and friends see there you
go yeah this is something you can employ
your family members even the lazy ones
no okay don't employ that
no you definitely want to make and not
to be funny definitely you want to help
your family members and your friends but
also this is your business and you have
to put that first so if you have family
members or friends that's not
that doesn't understand your business
and not taking your business serious
don't hire them just because your family
because guess what you have the state
that comes in and they do audits you can
lose your life you can lose your license
and your permit so although you want to
help your family if they are not there
to help you and help their self um and
learn the business with you then hey you
got to protect it yeah you got to
protect your business yourself and your
clients you know because it's about them
so we're dealing with medication
prescriptions
um taking them to the doctor's
appointment so this is the real deal
yeah yeah it's not just about making
money you guys so
definitely this is about people lives
and the longest people know that your
their life is good good in your hands
you're good your business is gonna
succeed you know what you do
um
you represent yourself so as long as you
represent yourself good when your
business good you're good so are there
any like grants or is this just straight
like how did you get used where does
that money come let me tell you
something i work anybody that knows
tamika turner knows that i work very
hard
so i like i said i have other business i
use my other business to
pay for my other businesses okay and
i've always done that like to me it's
like helping hands they owe me money
right now
that's my company because i fronted my
own money personally so you have to look
at things
look at things differently how to save
and move your money yeah it's a big boss
right here yeah so i gave helping hands
which is my company um about 60k
out of your pocket out of my pocket
another business yes out of another
business that money from that i saved so
i didn't want capital
i'm not i don't have no ppp loans 60k
hey yeah she said no no pp loans no
look this is saving money for years
having a plan for years um
yeah executing and executing definitely
you have to execute so i saved this
money for years saved over like a
hundred thousand i said you know what
i'm gonna flip this money and make it
work for me and this
that's what i did gotcha yeah i brought
my property my first property sorry i'm
sorry to cut you off but my first
property i brought was my business
because i thought it was smart to let me
invest in myself let me buy my first
property as a business and then i could
buy any home that i want to okay yeah
cause what i was gonna ask was
so 60k is where you start is that was
the total capital that you started with
when you first got started well i had
more capital than that but that's the
capital that i used okay i had a budget
because you also have to budget and just
like
casino i have accounting background so i
have a business degree as well and i
have um accounting classes that i took
so and of course i do taxes so you have
to understand all of that in a business
anyway
so yeah just saving just and planning i
used my own money brought my home
um renovated it used my brother my dad
put furniture in it um got licensed and
did what i had to do
okay pretty much yes all right so you
know uh hopefully we'll get a chance to
go and check out one of your assistant
living facilities on one of these videos
oh yes so these people can see what a
what a quality thank you facility looks
like thank you because being a
consultant you work with so many people
and one thing i'm big on is about
quality
um some you got some providers that's in
this for money they don't care how the
furniture look i mean i don't been in
some homes and i'm like oh my god
yeah i can't even believe they're open
so i've been doing a lot of op
observing in this business i didn't just
jump into it i've been observing
watching so when i
when you know when i started and i got
into it i just wanted to make sure that
i had quality gotcha oh yeah one last
question because was trying to make this
brief right
but one last question
in order to get to a million dollar
a year kind of income like yeah of
course you know we know got payroll and
things like that but to get to a million
dollars
how many
rooms beds or something like that would
you say because
a facility might be one house but you
may have like multiple yeah you
definitely need you're not gonna do it
in one facility you definitely need
multiple um facilities more than three
or four okay to get to that level um
that you're trying to to get to okay so
definitely multiple so how many rooms or
how many patients
well i'm gonna say starting off as a
private home care
you can get and this is not billing
medicaid right so we're just going to
say private home care so a private home
care you can um charge about 2 000 to 3
000 a room
okay and then you can put two people to
a room so say if you had four rooms
and you put two people to those rooms
what is that eight people
in the home and we're making what two or
three thousand so we're talking about
what 24.
that's the maximum
maybe more than that a month
or if you're charging somebody a
thousand dollars a month two people to a
room
eight thousand it just depends on how
much you're charging because it's based
on your quality
okay yeah
okay yeah so you def yeah
yeah and definitely you have to have a
nurse
too
okay so you have to have a good nurse
yeah definitely gotta have a good team
your nurse your cnas yeah i'm over here
thinking about how many rooms i got in
here right now
yeah
when i seen this house i was like if i
could open up me a personal care home
and it's so crazy every house that i see
now i'm like oh this would be a good
person to care home that's all that i'd
be thinking right now i was looking to
buy another house anyway but yeah like
let's partnership come on let me go
ahead and let me do you get your house
y'all find out there's some old people
living here just know
all right so we're going to stop this
video
uh you want to tell them where they can
find you because they got any kind of
questions for some concerns yeah if you
guys got any questions um
i don't know i should have put my number
out here don't do that okay yeah
okay just contact me turner tamika so
that's t-u-r-n-e-r
t-o-m-i-k-a at yahoo.com turner mika
yahoo.com
that's where you can reach me um i do
consultant and i can help help you open
up a home not just that but organize it
policies and procedures
i can find you nurses i can network you
uh network you to the people who have
the clients who's looking for um
placement so
definitely
yeah because i'm gonna say don't put
your number out there i've had something
yeah come on yeah
yo
but yeah so
hit her up yes she will help you get a
assistant living facility yes um amongst
other things she does taxes which we're
gonna do a video on that yes um and so
she can talk about that business or
whatever but you know we didn't talk
about how i started
oh well let's talk about how you guys
you always have to have a good story
i can't just tell y'all that i do okay
so let me tell you how i started
and this is very personal right so
i'm 36 i had my first child
at 16.
wow so this let you know hey if i can do
it anybody can do it so i am a teenage
mother
i am the og of teen moms i i know
nothing of this okay i'm hearing this
for the first time like i'm the og okay
so
um my children my child mom
had personal care homes
well she was a nurse so when i first met
her she was just starting you said your
children my my my child my baby daddy i
didn't want to be ghetto y'all saying
baby daddy buddy he's like my child's
mama
their grandma not my mom but they're on
that dad's side yes so she was a nurse
she was getting into a personal care
home she was just opening up one so i
was there like right beside her dropping
off the paperwork for her to get her
personal care home um you know watch her
put clients in it watch her sacrifice so
a lot of women i work with i have
watched these women they sacrificed for
these business they just didn't come
into it and so just i had admired her
for you know what she was doing with the
clients and that's how i started i came
in as a caregiver
so to show you that i started from the
bottom
16 taking care of the clients yeah and
so
through that whole time you know i'm
like i want to learn how to run this i
don't you know i i always been like this
like no i can't i can't just be here
being a caregiver i want to learn it so
i went to business school because i'm
watching her do her business i'm like
hold on you have a personal care home
but there's a business side
so let me go back to school
get my business degree and learn
business because you know you have to
learn business it don't matter what it
is and that's how it doesn't matter yeah
and that's how it started and then she
was going through like accreditations
and things like that and what i learned
about this people do not like to read
they do not they and this is how
consultants get paid
because
i read the policies i was like well let
me read the policies let me see how to
run this let me do i could do this
so and that's how i started i would tell
people that i knew how to open up homes
and do stuff and i ain't even know how
to do it oh butts
guess what i told them i knew how to do
it they gave me the opportunity
and i read it and it worked
and that's how i started so what i'm
like oh i opened up this home for real
oh like i really did yeah like i really
did it's like i read they didn't want
they could have did this they sell right
right like it's really easy anybody from
doing it exactly but then but you so i
was like okay i could i could make a
business from this because people don't
want to read i'm reading the policies
i'm updating them on the policies i know
how to open homes okay now i'm
networking and so
that's how i started guys i didn't know
anything
i read policies i told people i knew
what i was doing i didn't but i
eventually learned
yeah and i became an expert at it that's
amazing so i don't never miss an
opportunity that's the thing 16 you was
on that mission from then from then
that's crazy okay so
so how old were you when you got your
first facility
um now
okay
so you see how long it takes yeah
so don't don't come in here you could
there's people who they come in and you
can do it overnight but definitely
you have to have some type of experience
some type of passion and that's why
people forget this
yes because they shorten that gap that
time frame yes they shorten the time
frame because she took 20 years to get
hers yeah and if you get with her you
can get yours and first like like in the
first year you know yeah but guess what
now i'm experienced so i know she
yeah but instead of taking that 20 years
somebody can just come in yeah and then
it comes with maturity because this is a
bit this is a business you're dealing
with people lives i i wanted to make
sure that okay i know what i'm doing
when i start and i actually went to
nursing school too just to make sure
yeah i didn't finish
oh okay but you win
a general idea
yeah i win i got a little sauce i need
to know a little something but i said
you know what i like this yeah i'm good
i'm gonna pay a nurse for that let me
stay in my lane so so
since we keep going because this is
supposed to be a quick video yeah which
you know we we're here now yeah um what
about
the um the nurses right what kind of
nurses
would you need to do you have to have
rns yes cna lpn yeah so you have to have
a cna to start okay um that's definitely
a requirement okay and you have to have
a nurse a licensed nurse in the in your
state so whatever state that you're in
it has to be a licensed nurse for that
state yeah or does it have to be what's
a star you have to have an argument
okay but once you start the business so
when you're starting and you're sending
out your application you have to have a
cna and an rn okay okay but once you
have your business established you could
you hire those lpns okay okay yeah okay
got you see that's that's good yeah so i
think this is good enough information
for now yes this is all the free game
you're gonna get contact
i was just here for myself yeah that's a
great answer like that's that's good
information i had no idea
it's a lot about this that i have no
idea yeah you have to have a nurse and a
cna to start if you don't have if you
don't know a nurse
if you don't have that network it would
be very hard because no one is just
going to say oh you could use my nursing
license so i know a lot of nurses every
anybody i call any nurse they're like go
ahead tamika
because of the my type of work my
quality
my relationship with people and not only
that i put people on so i don't just do
this for me i do this for we
if that makes sense yes that's what's up
yeah
all day
all right so make sure y'all hit her up

yeah
