review uh today we got the Pulse Elite

and the 3D so the old headset versus the

new headset um we're also going to be

looking at the fault that pretty much no

review been talking about um and I don't

know whe that's because they got it

prior to the fault coming around but but

basically we look at the fault as well

today uh because there's been some

serious issues so yeah let's jump

straight into the review then thanks for

okay so first up then let's have a look

at price so in the UK you'll find the

Pulse Elite headset for

$129.99 and in the US you'll currently

find it for

$149 when you're looking at the pulse 3D

it's roughly about £75 in the UK and 97

in the US if you're actually looking at

percentage differences then you're

looking at a 40% increase in price

between the pulse 3D and the Pulse Elite

okay so let's have a little look in the

box then and as you can see you get the

headset itself you get the USB cable you

get the docking station it doesn't have

a screw with it you get the user manual

on how to actually screw it on the wall

and you also get a normal manual too to

go with that if you haven't seen already

I did do a YouTube short of the unboxing

and you can check that out just up here

on the link okay then so let's start off

with some weight then and both of the

headsets come in uh good weight uh 300 G

for the 3D and 345 G for the elite

uh so that's pretty good going to be

fair and they none of them feel heavy on

the head so the range of these two

headsets then one of them uh comes in a

little bit better than the other and I

think it's because one of them is using

Bluetooth and the other's using more of

the wireless the 2.4 GHz so um yeah the

3D comes in at around about 15 M and the

pulse comes in at about 12 M so I walked

around my house and I was actually fine

all the way around the house as soon as

I went outside I know no that the elite

was breaking up a little bit so I mean

you're not going to be walking outside

or around your house anyway so normally

you're going to be near your computer so

but they're both fine around the house

anyway now battery life then and the

quoted battery life for these two is 13

hours for the 3D and 30 hours for the

elite now I've had to charge the 3D in

the time that I've been using the Pulse

Elite so that's got to tell you that the

Pulse Elite is probably going to be the

winner on the battery side so definite

upgrade there okay so both headsets then

as you can see are closed back design

neither of them have any sort of open

back or mesh or anything like that on

them and as I've explained in the past

the differences are normally for an open

back design you would see some sort of

meshy material over the back here and

that normally gives you a more open sort

of sound uh and feel so these are

obviously going to be a bit more

enclosed a bit more basier and give you

that more sort of sometimes I feel

immersive feeling okay so let's talk

about driver design next and these um

pulse Elites actually have the same sort

of driver technology is what the Audi

Maxwells are and Sony has just recently

bought out or buying out um ais's so

there'll be a one company soon but I

think audies are still going to be

making headsets for other companies and

stuff like that it's just that Sony

alone the rights and the company itself

uh so they've worked together and

they've created this headset and it's

definitely

improved um whereas the older headset

here uses the standard Dynamic drivers

sort of like a diam sort of design so

what you normally find on the sort of

Cheaper headsets anyway uh so that's a

standard design on these the planners

are basically designed to give less dsor

and a more accurate sound response so

from my experience it is completely true

and when we get onto the sound later

you'll understand what I mean okay on to

Bluetooth then and surpris osing L the

3D headset the old one doesn't actually

have Bluetooth and as you look on the

bottom here there's no actual signs or

symbols or anything like that that

states it does have Bluetooth so you

won't be able to connect to your phone

with this one or anything like that

whereas the newer headset the new Elite

that actually does have Bluetooth built

in and we'll come on to some really cool

features in a minute that this has I am

really really impressed with some of the

features this has at this price point so

that's really good there's no actual

specification on the Bluetooth

so it it basically doesn't show us on

the internet exactly what the Bluetooth

technology is so let's move on okay so

the good thing about having the

Bluetooth on the Pulse Elite is the fact

that you've got the Dual connection so

you haven't got this availability on

here with this basically means that you

can connect your phone and your PS5 at

the same time so you could be talking to

someone on your phone on the p and on

the PS5 at the same time while listening

to your game so you can have sort of

multi way conversations and this isn't

even available on the Maxwells so that's

that that headset's double the price if

not more so it's it's an absolutely

blinding feature for for such a sort of

low cost headset so that's a really good

feature for that well done Sony so

earlier on then I spoke about the

Bluetooth capability of the pulse and I

didn't actually know what the type was

uh but what I'd have managed to find out

on uh my PC is when I plugged the

dongles in for both of these headsets I

was only able to get six 16 bit 48 khz

through both of these headsets via the

dongles and as you've probably heard

already both of the headsets come with

uh a dongle this is the new dongle

that's come with the Pulse Elite there

look and this is the old type dongle um

I believe actually the older headset has

a reset button on it um so if you look

on the side I don't know if I can get it

just right there look if you can see

that but there's actually a reset in

there I think you can use a pin or

something like that but you don't

actually have that on this one as I've

kind of alluded to already as well both

these headsets will support PC and

Playstation I haven't tried them in an

Xbox I haven't actually got one yet I

will get one soon um I just haven't

really got the funds for it at the

moment but I'll definitely get one so I

can try stuff out like that soon but

yeah these definitely work on PC and

Playstation just one thing to be aware

though is that the chat mix uh doesn't

work via the PC so you would have to go

if you were playing Call of Duty for

instance you would have to go inside the

app and then adjust the game chat mix

that way or if you're using Discord then

you would adjust the game chat mix via

Discord so it just means you can't do it

on the headset or there's no sort of

option anywhere else for it okay so both

headsets then support 3D audio so if you

click across to the settings menu here

down to sound and then you can go down

to the 3D audio and for

headphones click on that and as you can

see that's highlighted you can turn it

on and off as well I actually thought

about doing a uh comparison video soon

about this uh to see what it's like with

with it on and off um it might just be a

short actually but you can also adjust

the profile so it's sort of lowers it

and highers it within the headset and

the drivers which really helps and

really good also going on to The

Equalizer so if you press the

PlayStation button when you're on the

main menu or within a game you can click

on the sound uh tab there and you can

select your output device and also you

can actually select which profile you

want and you can actually make your own

so it's actually a really good feature

this is what it also gives you is an

audio preview as well footsteps and

stuff like that so you can actually

create your own profile around say an

FPS game which is I think you know

really good for the chat mix then as you

can see here this is the pulse 3D and

you can only adjust it through the

headset itself so you've actually got

the button on there on the headset that

you can use whereas on the new Elite

headset you can actually adjust it

through the PS app but you cannot adjust

it on the

headset okay so going on to some Dolby

Atmos then so both of these headsets

support Dolby Atmos through the PC it's

currently not yet available for the PS5

so you can only access this through the

PC um it says at the moment that enable

Dolby Atmos to access the audio settings

so if we go down into the settings down

here you can also see youve also got DTS

for headphones and DTS Ultra and stuff

like that but we're going to click on

that and it should activate The

Equalizer I love Dolby Atmos I think

it's brilliant you can use it as a

normal equalizer for sort of any set of

headphones that that basically support

it I think it's a good little feature

and you can click click through which

one you want and you can also make your

own custom ones too so now we actually

come on to a bit more of the physical

side of the stuff and uh looking at

these two headsets then the first thing

to look at is the 3.5 mil connection so

you can actually connect this to your

phone if you're old school um and that

works fine I've tried that uh you you've

also got the same on this one as well I

do quite like the design of these um

these here and as you can see they've

managed to get all of this tiny

intricate uh buttons and stuff like that

here but there you go there's your 3.5

mil on there too and you can do the same

on this headset so both headsets have

3.5 mil you've got the mute button on

the 3D just here um Clicks in and out

and on the other headset you've actually

got it on the microphone itself which is

just under here there you go so yeah

it's just on there and it tabs on and

off quite easily actually so that's easy

to access then you've also got uh USB

C's in both so the USB C's sit on the

bottom of both headsets here thing with

that is they basically don't support

audio through them so if you're going to

try and plug them in and listen to some

music through USB cable like you can do

on say the all these Maxwells you can't

do that here next up is the docking

station so obviously you don't get a

docking station with the 3DS but

underneath this band here you can see

there's some sort of like metal dots and

then like a little hole that's where it

sits on the docking station as you can

see right now uh you don't actually get

a screw with that dock so you have to

find your own screw to screw it into the

wall but it's pretty easy to install and

you get a little instruction book with

it as well having a look at here look

you've actually got um the volume here

look so you can adjust that on there

you've also got the monitor on monitor

off as well so you can monitor your own

voice I.E side tone and then you've got

chat and game mix as well on the headset

too and then that pretty much other than

the uh microphone here and the on and

off button that pretty much sums up the

3D there if we move on to the elite

though you've actually notice there a

couple of different things here we've

got no chat mix button so you can't

adjust the chat mix through here as I've

already said but you do have the volume

up volume down on and off and if you

hold this button long enough it will go

into Bluetooth mode I.E so you comp

paare it to your phone but also if you

hold it for even longer I can't remember

it's 10 seconds or something like that

um then it will do a reset on the

headset to so um when I had my fault

with it that was one of the things I had

to try which didn't work but we'll come

on to that in a minute so there isn't

any software required for these other

than software updates so if you plug it

into your p PS5 for instance or say for

instance you had your USB dongle put in

there when you turn on your PS5 it won't

let you listen to the audio till you do

the software update so which is a bit

annoying really because if they issue

like a bad firmware or something you've

got no choice but to update it which is

potentially one of the reasons why we

had a fault with the new Elite because

they may have released a 41 but we'll

come on to that very shortly so the

Pulse Elite microphone is retractable

and also has active noise cancelling so

I've done a comparison with a Hoover in

the background for you guys to check out

so here it is this is a test of the

pulse Elites microphone I think it

sounds pretty good to me what do you

think this is a test of the microphone

on the 3D Pulse headset what do you

think this is a test with the Pulse

Elite and the Hoover on in the

background what do you think this is a

test of the 3D PSE headset been Hoover

on in the back what do you think so

going on to a bit of like the quality

and the looking feel now and both the

headsets are actually very good I was

really impressed with both of them

there's one little niggle though with

the new Elite and that's the sort of

scratchy plastic on the outside here um

can you see that I don't know if you can

see it on the video here look uh but I

put a picture up as well but it came out

the box with this sort of slightly

scratched sort of plastic here and sort

of over time already and I normally look

after my stuff it's kind of already got

even more scratches on it so it's it's

that type of material that's going to

scratch really easily um the rest of it

though by the way feels really well made

and the same banding here look if youed

to see how that is um it's the same

banding as what's on the original and

that's lasted really well so if you can

see that this one's a couple of years

old right now and there's nothing wrong

with it it's not broken it's not gone

gone bad or anything like that so yeah I

mean really good quality overall uh just

that scratchy plastic

going back to the Bandon actually and

the adjustability of this headset is

really good it kind of Auto adjusts

itself to your head and I've had no

problems it might be a problem for

people with sort of bigger heads but I

I'm not sure on that one it just feels

like maybe it could sort of push up too

high if you got a sort of uh you know

bigger head I don't know but yeah I mean

something to bear in mind but really

comfortable headset the adjustability is

great and the cushions as well on both

the headsets are actually pretty good I

mean I would say that the elite is more

comfortable overall it does sit on my

head better and you know the size of

these ear cups as well are are perfect I

mean when I did put it on initially my

ears sort of cramped up at the back here

but I kind of got used to that really

quickly uh so they kind my I've got big

ears anyway but they kind of fold in the

back here if you know what I mean but

overall my my ears are big so they fit

in perfectly and and I've got no

problems with them and I don't think

anyone else would have a problem either

so it's the same for these really you

know they're quite a good opening so

your ears actually sit inside and one

last thing just to sort of finish off as

well is that I didn't sort of experience

any hot ears on these normally um Clos

back headsets do have a tendency to sort

of heat up especially in the summer

months they might sort of heat up a

little bit but my ears kept quite cool

and I had no problems at all there okay

so now let's move on to sound and this

is probably the best bit is it but

before we do it I just want to talk

about the fault that I had with my

headset uh well the first one I got

anyway and it was distorting on the left

ear to begin with um and then it kind of

over time developed this uh sort of

clicking noise in the left ear cut so

every time I sort of move my head left

and right it would kind of like click

click click um but as soon as you

relieve that pressure on sort of

underneath you know sort of your earlobe

or something it would stop so it's

really sort of of weird cuz it sounded

like it was sort pressurized or

something like that um anyway some

people on Reddit when I had a look at it

would basically saying that there's two

issues here or maybe three uh one of

them might have been the firmware so the

firmware update that it recently had

before I got the headset um had issues

and it was causing this this problem the

second one was that the driver hadn't

been manufactured correctly within the

headset and that was causing another

issue and the other one was which is

kind of due to the firmware as well was

to do with the battery being overcharged

so there's a few different options there

that it could have been anyway so what I

did is I contacted Sony and just made

sure that they were aware of it um I had

contacted two different people under the

uh sort of ask the expert or whatever

it's called and they were no help at all

they didn't really sort of seem

interested or want to pass that

information on to anyone they just kind

of sort of like fob me off really

uh so that felt like that gave me a bit

of confidence in the sense of it was

getting done but other people had had uh

luck as well contacting them and maybe

picked up a good couple of good people

and it has been reported so they must be

releasing some sort of firmware update

soon to stop this from happening so

whether the previous headset was damaged

or actually it was just a firmware

update required I won't know until I

basically update my my new one so I'm

not willing to charge mine or anything

like that yet until I know that there's

a new firmware update out so what I'll

do is I'll report back anyway and keep

you guys updated see if there's any new

or later firmware updates that fix this

so yeah I'll keep you all

informed so let's actually talk about

the sound itself now um so thoughts

aside um once I got this new headset the

outside noise that was coming in from

these headsets um is pretty much the

same but for some reason like the elite

the Pulse Elite was kind of like better

um at blocking out the outside noise now

now I've come to think about it though I

put both headsets on and I was listening

around the house to see without any

music on that is just to see what it was

like and actually both the headsets were

performing the same they were blocking

out about the same but I think because

of the better quality of the Pulse

headset it and I was getting more

immersed in a game with it it I could I

was blocking out more sound you know so

I think that's kind of what you know

what was going on in my head anyway uh

so the outside noise side of it yeah

definitely goes to the elite and I just

think it's because of the emerging side

of it so going on to the next bit is

music and I like my music so I like to

listen to things so if you're just going

to be listening to music on your pulse

3D then that's fine it'll it'll do the

job but I feel like a big step up for me

was definitely the Pulse Elite you know

it is definite step up for music um I

would I wouldn't say it was as as good

as the Maxwells in fact it's probably

nowhere near as good but um that's

another step up again but yeah great for

music and you know if you just wanted to

sit there just play any game with a bit

of music on your phone in the background

as well then that's possible you know

and it and it does sound okay for me

though where this Pulse Elite headset

really shines is the game sound it's

kind of like it's just immersion it

gives you you know and it just reminds

me of the Audi's Maxwells they do a

similar job in fact I think the Pulse

Elite is isn't as good of course CU it's

it's half the price if if if not less uh

but it does a great job of immersing you

in the game it's got great bass it's got

really good Imaging for like your FPS

games as well I was I was able to pick

out footsteps on Modern Warf Warfare to

um you know I was playing that quite a

lot so it was really really quite good

for that and I really really thoroughly

enjoyed playing those open World Games

with it and stuff like that as well

really really good good headset amazing

the the pulse 3D is definite step down

but yet you know it's 40% cheaper so for

me I feel like you're getting at least

50% better sound with the elite uh and

that's and that's guaranteed um you know

if there if you're not getting that then

there's definitely something wrong with

that headset you know so a clear step

forward for the Pulse Elite on that some

things that uh people forget uh like the

maximum volume of these headsets as well

and i' I've actually experienced it with

some headsets in the past where you

don't get that full maximum you know

sort of like uh volume so they both

perform really well on this and they

both got to sort of ear piercing you

know sort of sound quality and and sound

volume so yeah I'd definitely say that

both the headsets are great for that so

no need to worry about that and then the

final thing is the side tone both of

them off a s tone although once again

the elite is a step forward uh you know

you can really hear yourself clearly a

lot clearer than what you can on the 3D

although the 3D is great you know and

it's served me well and it's served my

friends well as well so don't get me

wrong that's a great budget headset and

it's absolutely fine but once again the

side tone is a step up again on the

Pulse Elite okay everyone so conclusion

time and before we move on I'd just like

to ask if you guys could like and

subscribe from this video it'd be hugely

appreciated so moving on then so the

faults with the Pulse Elite then it

could either be a firmware issue or a

driver issue just be ready to actually

return one of the headsets if you

actually buy one uh like I had to that

aside though if you actually go for the

Pulse Elite it is definitely a 40% step

up and definitely worth the extra price

over the pulse 3D it's not quite as good

as the Maxwells but then I wouldn't

expect that anyway but what you're

getting over the 3D is you're getting

that better sound quality you're getting

that more immersive feeling better

Imaging you're getting greater sound

with music you get the Bluetooth

capability with the Dual connectivity

and just a generally better made headset

in all in all you know so I would

definitely go for that headset if I were
