about a year and a half ago I got to
meet one of my biggest business mentors
in the game Alex rosi I was fortunate
enough to have a whole hourlong
conversation with him while he was at
the peak of blowing up his personal
brand and I've thought about it a lot
I've meditated on it a lot and there
were really four key takeaways that I
had that absolutely changed the way that
I look at life and in business so I
figured I would drive around here for a
second and share with you guys the four
key takeaways I had from Heros and what
I was able to pick up on on this call
what he shared with me on this call that
really changed my my life I mean to give
perspective at that point I was making
200ish k a month and now we're doing
over double that so it clearly was an
impactful call and I figured I would I
would drive around and share with you
guys some of the stuff that he uh he
shared with me so the very first thing
was a bit of an eyeopener and it was
kind of a rude awakening he really
called my business partner and I out and
in a great way in a way that we needed
to be called out he was asking us how
our Revenue was doing and how our sales
were and honestly we were having a
really bad month our sales were like
down by 50% it was not good and so when
Alex asked us how are things going and
we said well it's been a slow month and
he asked us okay why what's going on we
came up with every excuse in the book we
started talking about how it was just a
slow time of year for our Niche and it
was just a slow Market it was just a
slow season and Alex kind of looks at us
and he's like
okay uh is there anything else going on
and we're like well we let go of two
closers we had to make some changes in
the team culture these people were
underperforming and we start getting to
the meat of the actual problem and Alex
was like okay so it's not the market
it's the sales management and we're kind
of we just kind of sit there and we're
like yeah basically yeah it's the Sales
Management we just need to get better at
recruiting training and managing sales
reps it's not the market it's us and
he's like right so blaming it on the
market what's that going to do for you
basically and this was the takeaway I
had you may be able to get rich
deceiving yourself and lying to yourself
and faking it till you make it but you
will never get wealthy you you don't
become that level of successful like
Heros is lying to yourself you can't lie
to yourself at that level you can't
deceive yourself on what your actual
problems are you can't blame things on
other people there's no excuses at that
level so that was the first takeaway you
don't get wealthy lying to yourself so
the second thing I took away was how
calm he was there's this word that I
really love it's called equinity and
I've actually heard Heros talk about it
he says that every billionaire he's ever
met has extreme amounts of equinity and
this word in its atmology is essentially
equal mindedness equa or equas just
means equal and then animus is mind and
so equinity is equal mindedness steady
mindedness or steady handedness heroi
was so calm he was so calm and he was so
relaxed on the call and it really just
made me realize how much inner work he's
done how much introspection he's done
how much selfimprovement he's done in
his life to become so composed at all
times have you ever met somebody who is
just extremely poised and relaxed at all
times and they never seem to be thrown
off mentally that was Alex and there was
one key moment that really emphasized
this for me I asked Alex a question it
was a really important question
regarding our business and he sat there
and he paused for like 30 seconds before
he finally answered the question he just
sat there and he thought about what his
answer should be to this question for 30
seconds on this Zoom call there's four
of us nobody saying a word we're all
just like looking around waiting for him
to answer and then he in like 15 seconds
perfectly articulates the right answer
to the question that I asked rather than
instantly respond responding and
rambling on in an incoherent answer or
solution to the problem that I proposed
he took a step back he thought about it
he composed himself and then he gave a
structured answer the Bible says be slow
to speak quick to listen and slow to get
angry and he embodied that perfectly he
was slow to speak and he was very quick
to listen and so that was another really
big reminder for me be slow to speak be
quick to listen slow to speak people are
too they they they too quickly jump into
their answers and giving their opinions
you don't need to have an opinion on
everything and you don't need to have an
answer for everything a true sign of
wisdom and intelligence is knowing the
things that you don't know now my third
and final takeaway from this call with
her MOSI was his patience Bezos talks
about this a lot the key to building a
big business is time the key to building
something great is being willing to
commit to building it for a greater
period of time than most people if you
are willing to commit and and play the
game five times as long as your
competitors you're going to be able to
make decisions you're going to be able
to engage in activities that your
competitors can't because they're trying
to get rich in 5 months while you're
trying to get wealthy in 5 years so the
longer you play the game the more likely
you are to build something great and I
could tell in the way that he asked us
questions and in the way that he gave us
answers he didn't want us to rush he
didn't want us to get caught up in this
comparison hype cycle of online
entrepreneurship where everybody's
trying to flex how much money they make
and how quickly they make it and I know
I'm guilty of this on this channel but
it was a really good reminder to just
focus on building something great in a
long period of time rather than trying
to build something big in a quick period
of time so be honest with yourself
radically honest with yourself remind
yourself of the word equinity how are
you carrying yourself at all times and
last but not least give yourself more
time on your journey of building
whatever it is you're trying to build
those were my biggest takeaways from
