it's critical to demonstrate enthusiasm
people will see you as committed engaged
and interesting your voice tells people
that you are excited you can't fake
enthusiasm it has to be authentic it has
to be from your heart there are a number
of ways to create vocal projection and
intonation into your style you can tell
stories
use people's names or relive an
experience all of these techniques will
help you demonstrate enthusiasm which is
critical to your overall success you're
going to see Esther she's walking around
and she has a nice smile she shares with
us that she's an experienced speaker
with the opportunity to speak to small
and large audiences overall she looks
good let's watch her firm right up the
street from here but I work out of the
Columbus office which is our largest
office we also have offices in
Alexandria in DC in Cincinnati and in
akan my job
responsibilities a toz all over the
place
benefits recruiting hiring firing
Wellness you name it no day is ever the
same it's really interesting working for
a law firm I've been an HR in in
different environments but in a law firm
Esther is very professional clearly
she's experienced she shares that she
wants to look and sound more natural
when she presents let's watch my
coaching session on how to project her
personality into her business style so
you're observing her and you're liking a
number of things what would that be for
you show fear no
fear come take my
pulse
exactly she hides it okay she moved
without being right she's got nice
movement she's working both sides of the
room I definitely like that here's what
I'm going to have you do you've you've
taken in a lot of the skill sets that
we've been talking about you've got
pretty good eye contact you're walking
and planting the hands aren't nothing's
distracting but now what I want to do is
I want her to own these skills and let
her personality be in the skills okay so
things are looking pretty good here's
what we're going to do we're going to
work on vocal energy and excitement
enthusiasm and bringing your personality
into your style here's how you do that
pick a personal story that is exciting
or frustrating that's the easiest way
but what you want to do is be aware of
talking to the individuals in the room
so typically it's best to decide I'm
going to start talking to Louise first
so you'll decide con you know
consciously in your mind I'm going to go
to the left-and side of the room and I'm
going to talk to Louise and Ashley for a
little while so we consciously become
aware of where we're going to start off
we just just don't start random so
you're going to go you're going to start
on the left- hand side of the room
you're going to engage this side of the
room for about three or four sentences
however you want to do that with but
it's going to be vocal energy is going
to be up body energy is going to be out
and up okay then after you've engaged
them for three or four sentences you're
going to walk over here as you were
doing and you're going to engage this
side of the room and really get their
attention it's going to be louder voice
more energy more excitement open
gestures okay but the side versus a
person absolutely the side versus a
person on this exercise do you have
something exciting or
frustrating you're about to watch Esther
become very authentic I want you to
notice how she uses pausing to create
drama for her story now that she has
more energy in her voice pay particular
attention to what happens to her hands
and her facial expressions Esther is
about to show you how to put your heart
into your
communication I'm going to share a story
with you that actually is both exciting
and frustrating I have two daughters two
grown daughters and one was married a
year ago in April and it was probably
just the grandest moment that that any
any mother could could imagine and we
got all through the wedding preparations
and and and it's finally over it's that
it's that moment in time where you can
finally relax it's it's over and two
days later I got a phone call to my
younger daughter mom yeah
I'm
engaged starting all over the excitement
came right back up we were you know we
were all excited and and I had in my
mind that the guy that she's marrying
who is in this long um educational
program that this wedding is going to be
two two years plus down the line so you
know I'm cool she says mom yeah how do
you feel about Nick
spring Big Goal what do you what do you
do what do you say two weddings a year
to to the date next time you present
think of a story you can tell to
personalize your message on occasion use
people's names call out to them while
you're
presenting ask questions that elicit
emotion and
Intrigue remember you set the tone if
you're excited they will get excited
with you if you're not they surely won't
to get approval for your ideas and get
people motivated you have to tell and
show them that you're excited
