hey church I'm Colleen and today we're
continuing in our first Corinthians
devotional series and we are going to
read together a scripture that is
probably very familiar to many of you it
is First Corinthians 13 verses 4 through
7. so let's take time to really read it
and prayerfully consider it together
first Corinthians 13 verses 4 through 7.
love is patient and kind
love is not jealous or boastful or proud
or rude it does not demand its own way
it is not irritable and it keeps no
record of being wronged
it does not rejoice about Injustice but
rejoices whenever the truth wins out
love never gives up
never loses faith is always hopeful and
endures through every circumstance you
see Paul is writing to the church at
Corinth they were having some messy
situations and some immorality and he
wants them to understand what true love
is all about you see agape love it's not
shallow in definition but deep and rich
in meaning love is not just love it's
not the same kind of love as loving a
favorite fast food restaurant and so
Paul wants to Define to the church at
Corinth what love looks like what is it
and what is it not and he says this love
is not jealous it doesn't desire what
someone else has or wish that they
didn't have it at all it is not boastful
or proud it's not arrogant in nature but
humble it is not rude we treat others
with honor and respect even in
disagreements it is not demanding or
self-seeking or self-centered it is
definitely not irritable or easily
angered we guard what we say when we
love someone and it keeps no record of
wrongs
you know we don't keep score of wrongs
against us when we love someone but what
is love love is patient it has the
ability to be inconvenienced or taken
advantage of and not grow angry it is
kind it means to be useful and serving
and gracious and have good will towards
others it never gives up it Bears all
things the goal is to create Harmony
through adversity it never loses faith
it believes the best in others when we
love them love is always hopeful it
believes that no one is outside of God's
grace that God's arm is not too short to
save when we love someone we hope
despite what circumstances look like and
it endures through every circumstance
agape love never stops loving you see
love is not love there are different
kinds of love and as Believers we have
the power to love differently but this
is not not something we can do on our
own you see God is love it is not an
action of God it is an attribute of who
God is it is a fruit of the Holy Spirit
and so we can't just conjure up loving
someone else we have to receive and
Trust the Holy Spirit to show us and to
activate love through us to love others
with a christ-centered agape love is to
show God to someone else so today I want
to encourage you that this is the kind
of love that God has for us that we
would receive that kind of love that we
would take time to reflect on God's love
for us I don't know what you need or
what you want to understand who God is
but he is patient and kind and never
gives up and never loses hope or faith
in you
but he is not rude or boastful or proud
he doesn't keep a record of your wrongs
that is not who our God is
so how can we in return show God's love
to others today
that's my Challenge and my question for
you today how can we as Believers show
God through the way we love others today
I hope you have a great day and show the
love of God to those in your sphere of
influence see you tomorrow
