Transcripts
shall we do a little battery test now
that we've got the new iPhone 16s well
I've got together pretty much all the
flagship phones out there there were of
course many more but I've got 13 phones
here including the new iPhone 16 16 pro
and pro Max now unfortunately I wasn't
able to get the 16 plus in time for this
video I'll have to make another battery
test in a few weeks but I want to see a
how they compareed to last year's 15s
with the regular 15 the pro and the pro
Max and also the current Android
competition although of course these
will be updated soon with the Snapdragon
8 Gen 4 chip as well as the new
mediatech demens d400 we're expecting so
some of these Android phones are do a
refresh soon but we have also just had
the new pixel 9 Pro XL with the tensor
G4 obviously there are quite a lot of
variables here we've got uh different
screen sizes different chips different
battery sizes and even though I'm making
this in the second half of 2024 we still
got some 60 HZ phones because see of the
iPhone 16 and also the iPhone 15 anyway
all phones are set to their default
settings in terms of resolution and
refresh rate all screens set to 150 nits
we're running on Wi-Fi only and the
latest software available to the phone
as I'm recording this and kicking off
with half an hour of YouTube I'm going
to do 30-minute increments of a variety
of different apps now of course your
usage will vary based on uh what apps
you use what signal you have whether you
have 4G or 5G this is just to give you a
bit of an idea how the phones compare
and I just want to see in this
particular test which one lasts the
longest and particularly with the new
iPhones which Apple say not only are a
big boost but actually the 16 Pro Max
should be the longest lasting iPhone
they've ever made which is a pretty big
statement but then it's also a pretty
big phone it's 6.9 in the new 16 Pro Max
the biggest iPhone ever and so they've
also been able to squeeze in the biggest
battery couple of things to point out
yes I do have the Vivo X100 Pro and not
the ultra which actually is a slightly
newer higher-end phone with a bigger
battery 55 versus 5400 Mill cell however
the pro has the mediate Tech chip the
Deens 9300 which in my tests and lots of
other research I've done actually
performs much better for battery life so
for this battery test I'm using the pro
now I'm also very interested to see how
the pixel 9 Pro XL competes fares
against the competition here because
historically the pixels have been pretty
rubbish consistently finishing back of
the pack so I'm hoping with this year's
more efficient G4 it's going to be a bit
more competitive we're also going to
have to see how the upcoming Apple
intelligence with iOS 18.1 and 18.2 will
impact battery if at all uh also we've
got Android 15 right around the corner
surprisingly this year it didn't launch
as the new pixels came out so both
Android and iOS are due updates and also
as I say we're going to get new chips
from both Snapdragon and mediatech in
not too
long okay I'm going to stop here just
for a second because at the 2 and a half
hour mark As we were approaching 11:30
at night last night um I actually want
to do an overnight standby test see how
much each phone drops in terms of
battery overnight unfortunately my my
camera decided to stop recording for
those last 5 minutes I did still make a
note of each battery so what you're
seeing on screen is correct so let's use
our imagination to pretend that I'm now
going to bed and I will pick this up in
8 hours time good
night good morning that was seamless
right 7:30 in the morning and we're
seeing a fairly consistent three four
fiveish perc drop across the phones the
pixel seem to be the worse there uh
losing 6% the vi the best losing just 2%
after 8 hours and I think we're already
beginning to see the pack separating
OnePlus the Vivo out in front still on
green everything else is in the yellow
territory now but let's switch over to
Netflix which actually is quite
difficult to test with as many phones
because the account kicks me out but I
can play different trailers and I can
tell you now these videos are absolute
pain in the backside to make because you
really have to Baby them if you just
walk away for 5 minutes a screen will go
off something won't uh play correctly
you just have to be basically staring at
a wi desk and a group of phones for well
you you'll see the number of hours at
the end of the video but it's a long
bloody time so if you do enjoy this you
do find it helpful a che a little like
And subscribe would be fantastic and if
you do have any other feedback for how I
can improve my next one what other
photos you like me to include drop a
comment as well now you would be right
to say that this isn't fully indicative
of battery life in the real world
because we're not testing the modems the
networks with 4G and 5G but there are so
many variables I'd have to get 13
different eims and also my signal here
in my house is actually pretty awful so
that's not really going to work for this
test but certainly you will probably
drain your battery a little bit quicker
out and about as you're pulling mobile
data from the sky as I mentioned earlier
it is frustrating that the Basse iPhones
are still 60 HZ now I don't want to drop
all the other refresh rates down to 60
because that's not how people use them
also we have Dynamic refresh rates these
days so actually if anything sometimes
it can be advantageous to have the
higher end screen but certainly in games
that do support 120 HZ like War Thunder
I'm actually going to stick them back to
60 HZ just to make it a bit more of an
even Keel I'm going to use a nautical
pun there what is interesting though is
that the iPhone 16 with its new a18 chip
can actually offer higher graphic
settings than last year 15 although of
course you're still stuck at 60 HZ now
as we approach the 5H hour mark and
speaking of performance let's just jump
into a quick geekbench test and feel
free to pause the video here if you want
to look all the different numbers but
essentially the iPhone 16 Pros with the
new a18 Pro and impressively the Vivo
actually beats most of the Snapdragon 8
gen 3 phones particularly in multicore
while also at this stage at least having
the most battery left as well that's
very impressive for mediatech I feel
like they don't get enough love but
place your bets maybe even drop a
comment below see if you get it right
tell me what you think will be the top
three winners out of these 13
[Music]
phones oh the iPhone 15 Pros is not
looking too hot 4% left and yeah there
we go at 8 hours and 11 minutes we have
our first loser the iPhone 15 Pro loses
8 hours lever which is fine I mean these
are all good battery lives it's all
relative between them I guess I thought
it would do a little bit better I
suppose it does have a more powerful
chip and also the 12 12 HZ screen versus
the regular iPhone 15 which isn't far
behind and there we are just shy of 20
minutes later 8 and 1 half hours the
regular iPhone 15 dies leaving the only
remaining iPhone 15 series the pro Max
on 10% with the 16's not too far behind
there I should have said this in the
beginning but all iPhones have 100%
battery health none of these phones have
been used for more than a couple of
weeks all under 50 cycles of battery
because I want you know full battery
capacity but also having used them for a
little bit because often the software
can optimize the battery three iPhones
down 9 hours 6 minutes for the 16 Pro
which lasts almost a full hour longer
than the 15 Pro but now we're over 9
hours they're going to start dropping
like flies and following the iPhone 16
Pro literally a couple of minutes later
we've got the xiaomi 14 Ultra which
actually goes in a kind of hibernation
mode which would last forever but if you
restart it and then doesn't turn back on
it's like a super low power mode so 3
minutes later we lose our first non
iPhone the xiaomi which is pretty good 2
minutes later 9 hours and 11 I love that
color that ultramarine iPhone 16 I would
almost almost be tempted to buy that
rather than one of the pros and then s24
Ultra look at that 3 minutes longer than
the iPhone 16 that's incredible actually
a I thought the s24 would last longer
but B the iPhone 16s are keeping up with
these big dogs good on the pixel as well
it didn't come last and actually it has
improved I've noticed this a little bit
since I did my review a couple of weeks
ago four phones left they've all got a
little bit left in the tank actually
until then the OnePlus 12 kicks the
bucket at 10 hours 51 over an hour and
10 longer than the Oppo which was the
last one to die before it so certainly
OnePlus the honor the Vivo and the
iPhone 16 Pro Max are in A League of
Their Own above everything else and then
about 40 minutes later the iPhone 16 Pro
Max is out of juice leaving two phones
left I think we can pretty confidently
say which one's going to win here
because we'll see how long it takes for
the honor to drain that last 1% of
battery again like the Oppo it just
lasts and lasts and lasts 11 hours 33
minutes another 40 minutes over the
OnePlus and that gives us our winner the
Vivo X1 00 Pro with the demens 9300 chip
it's fantastic and I can't wait to see
what mediatech do with the 9400 and
obviously we have to see how long it
takes until it finally dies 12 hours and
22 minutes so there we go top three
iPhone 16 Pro Max then the onor magic 6
Pro than the Vivo X100 Pro all fantastic
battery lives I mean they all did really
really well you're not going to have a
bad time with any of them equally
amazing though is how the new 16 Pro Max
lasted about 2 hours longer than the 50
16 Pro Max boom there we have it if you
want any feedback let me know in the
comments below let me know what phones
you'd like me to include next time which
of course should include the 16 plus as
well I would expect given the battery
sizes that the 16 plus comes just uh shy
of the 16 Pro Max which Apple claim has
the longest battery life they wouldn't
say that if they thought the 16 plus
would last longer I'll have to do this
all again with the new generation of a
Gen4 phones with the 16 plus and so I
can look forward to doing another one of
these and standing over a table for like
14 hours thank you so much for watching
guys I hope you found this useful as I
say a subscribe or a thumbs up would be
fantastic and I'll see you next time
right here on the tech chat
