get all those bad stuff that goes around
through the innovation though this
school and a genuine concern for the
youth
this particular school is receiving the
award has experienced a
total turnaround and then total
turnaround
not only its reputation but in the
quality
of its graduates how so take a look at
this
the school of last resort this was what
other schools called dr yang as colleges
incorporated
or dyci students were known as class
cutting misfits who defied teachers and
administrators
considered a recycle bin for repeaters
and kickouts
dyci hit an all-time low when its
student population
plummeted from 2800 in the 1980s
to just 523 in 2001
determined to turn things around the
newly appointed school director and
principal
mr michael yanga began improvements on
school administration
driven by the desire to harness the
innate skills and mold the character of
each student
they emphasize the values of
god-centeredness and commitment to
excellence
as the core operations of the school
stabilized
the administration trained its eyes on a
bigger goal
to create an innovation that would set
itself apart from other schools
frequent absences were a major problem
in dyci
upon further investigation mr yanga
found out that students were always in
computer shops
which kept them from focusing on school
it dawned on him that he could redirect
this interest in computers
to a fun but more educational route
through lego robotics
robotics education was included in the
curriculum for grade four for four-year
high school
and all students were given hands-on
experience through robotics kits
in 2006 the school started joining
competitions
the dyci robotics team brought prestige
and pride to the whole country
by earning a number of awards in three
separate world robotics olympiads
this paved the way for dyci to be the
first ever robotics excellence center in
the province of bulacan
it also led to major changes in the
curriculum as teachers used robotics to
develop skills in subjects like
mathematics
science technology and even english
for instance mr yangan noticed that
students had trouble expressing
themselves in english which affected the
way they presented their robots
he implemented a year-round english
speaking campaign
completed awards recognitions and a tv
broadcasting project
that encouraged students to improve
their english skills
two of the things that set dyci students
apart from others
were their values and attitudes the uaci
thought me
that a successful person not solely
depends
on one's physical attributes mental
capacity
or even the social world where he or she
belongs
but most importantly the inner being
that drives you to serve god
not wishing to exclude anyone dyci
decided to use the term god-centered so
that all students
whether they were catholic protestant
migration christo or otherwise
could relate to and engage in the
spiritual activities
conducted by the school
formation
indeed
the strength of its curriculum and
spiritual formation propelled dyci to
greater heights
the school that was once considered a
recycle bin for repeaters and kickouts
had become a source of national pride
and inspiration
now the biggest private school in
bulacan with 2
250 students it lives by the motto
more than a school a family
together as a family members of dyci
continued to push the envelope
proving that even a school of last
resort can make it to the top
to present the award for of course
dr yama's colleges
that's right and to receive the award
oh my goodness
transformative school for learning
effectiveness and school efficiency
receiving four hundred thousand pesos
from our xbox store
awarded from jordan doctor monaco
once again
meaningful evening to everyone
especially to our dear educators
and his team members of the second
excellence in educational
transformational awards
community our school
is really humbled and grateful to be one
of the
winners for this year just to be
mentioned
in the same breath with the schools that
have been awarded
with these prestigious actives leaders
innovators
is truly an unforgettable fit for the
diysa family
last night while i was preparing my
speech
i was watching hbo and lo and behold
i saw the movie sister
did anyone watch sister at last night i
remembered
sabiko targan god's hands are here
it was the same film that i showed
in 2002 one month after i was appointed
as the director principal the story was
about a fake
nun sister mary clarence
who was placed in a school which is
about to be close
the very same situation that we were at
in 2002
and i must admit i can consider myself
also as a fake
educator because i am not an education
graduate
all i have is the love for the students
and for my family so last night
i think i was really touched
and this is not the victory of a single
person
this is a victory of the students who
were patient with us
who even though during that time we were
considered a school of kick-outs
stayed with us that's why when they were
already singing the last song in the
sister actu i was crying last night
feeling a feeling award
really and i remembered the teachers
that were with me the very reason why i
asked them to be here is because they
were the same teachers who were with me
11 years ago they bear they sacrifice a
lot
can we give them a big round
it was in january 22 2013
that we received a letter notifying us
that we are in the short list
of the probable schools who are being
considered to be finalists in this
year's
eddie the letter unexpectedly came
on the second day of our 10th year
celebration
of a very unique celebration the god
center talk
now here's the dilemma we submitted
numerous innovations
the problem was the whole week was
dedicated to our god-sending celebration
and we do not know what will be the main
focus of the evaluation that will be
done
the problem was the whole week was
monday to friday
we have all the students busy for the
god center competition awarding and the
talks for the festivities
but still even though the jurors will be
coming
we said let's offer to the lord
it came as a surprise they came on the
25th of january
friday when one of the jurors
came and told us among the innovations
that we presented
they were quite intrigued that was the
term i remember that
and they will prove more deeply a unique
celebration that only happens in our
school
the god-centered week so i knew there
and there god has a hand in this
i was teary-eyed when i heard that
for i knew it was no longer about us
i knew someone up there is working for
us
and the rest is history
we thank you everyone for this
opportunity
to make my beloved family my students
alumni administration
and members of our community proud
because of this very prestigious award
i really wanted this not for personal
accolades
but for the thousands of students then
and now that that this time they can say
hey guys i'm proud to be a graduate of
this school
i really wanted this so that the school
in this year of faith be
an instrument of drawing people closer
to god
regardless of religion and for other
schools to be moved and inspired of our
humble effort through our god-centered
formation program
i may not have a seminal research or
dissertation
to back this up but their educators
in ones called we have proven
one thing if you if one wants to excel
it all starts in planting not the
knowledge
but implanting and taking care arduously
of the seeds of values and characters
and character before anything else
when we were able to make god centered a
by word for our students
that was the only time when all other
things followed
the provincial the national and
international
awards in different areas especially
robotics
it all started by bringing them closer
to the lord
the root is the lord and everything that
is dyca now
is all about him personally
i would like to thank the yama family
for trusting me
to the teachers the students and to my
personal mentor who i considered my
second mother
sister milagros amos who was also my
principal during high school
everything that i am now is a product of
different schools simple
energy thank you very much to everyone
and i will be for a great forever
grateful to all of you
truly to god be the glory
congratulations
you
