next you need to develop yourself into a
routine to improve your communication so
you can become more articulate when you
speak that's exactly what I'm going to
teach you how to do in this video
through my four step formula but first
if you're new to this channel I'm Kara
Ronan leadership coach to emerging
leaders if you want to improve your
leadership communication and Leadership
skill so you can advance in your career
then subscribe to my channel let's get
back to today's video when training
yourself to become more articulate or to
improve in any aspect of your
communication you need to know where you
are starting from you need to know how
you currently communicate what are the
pros and cons of your current
communication what phrases do you
regularly use do you use them too much
what words do you use can you expand or
elevate your vocabulary does your
message get across clearly or are people
confused try to analyze every aspect of
your communication to work out how
effective it is go through feedback at
work has your boss said anything about
your communication record yourself and
listen back to your communication did
you pick up any elements of your
communication that you would like to
change take note of when you speak to
other people identify your flaws and be
honest with yourself if you want to
become more articulate when you speak
you need to know where you are starting
from and analyzing your current
communication is the best way you can do
that the second thing you need to do is
analyze how other people speak so at
work in conversations with work
colleagues YouTube videos podcasts you
listen to interviews you might watch on
TV or even movies that you watch
through those resources you need to
analyze the way other people speak what
phrases or vocabulary do they use to
express ideas to convince others or to
argue their point what phrases and
vocabulary do they use when they're
passionate and energetic what phrases
and vocabulary do they use when they're
angry or upset and as you're analyzing
their communication think about what
elements of their communication you
would like to adopt and incorporate in
your communication style this is
probably one of the most effective ways
I've found to improve my communication
and sound more articulate but as you are
watching these resources the YouTube
videos podcasts Etc you need to approach
it with a learning mindset sometimes
it's really easy to get carried away
with the content and to become
interested in what that person is saying
and interested in the conversation but
remember you need to approach it with
the learning mindset you are there you
are watching that resource or listening
to that podcast because you want to pick
out elements of that person's
communication that you want to adopt so
you can become more articulate so keep
focused and don't be afraid to use the
pause button on the video or the podcast
episode if you need to stop and just
reflect on what that person has said
once you've spent time analyzing your
own communication and the communication
of others then you need to record and
document what you've learned believe me
you will not remember all of these words
or phrases that you've picked up unless
you have a photographic memory but most
of us don't if you're like me you will
need to write these words and phrases
down in a Word Journal I've spoken about
a word journal in another video which is
up here and I'll put the link in the
description as well so you can save it
to your watch later list on YouTube but
a Word Journal is an incredibly helpful
tool to record the words and the phrases
that you've learned and that you want to
incorporate in your own communication
style the act of writing these words or
phrases down will help you to retain
them better remember them better and
it's a really good way to help you
review them if you're using spaced
repetition this is my word Journal I've
actually been using it for improving my
Japanese ability I also have one for
French language studies whether you're
learning a foreign language or not you
should absolutely keep a Word Journal it
will serve you well when you want to
improve your communication and
articulate better so you've analyzed
your communication you've analyzed the
communication of others you've recorded
the words and phrases that you want to
use the next step you need to do is
practice this means you need to muster
up the courage and use the words or
phrases that you've recorded in Your
Word Journal if you're a little nervous
about using these new words and phrases
that you've learned you can first use
them in written communication such as
emails or text messages but I do really
want you quickly to move on to using
them in your verbal communication so in
your social conversations in your
conversations with your work colleagues
with your boss and in meetings as well
pray practicing what you learn is the
only way to solidify this new way of
communication and make it a natural part
of how you speak when it's a natural
part of how you speak you'll be able to
use those words and phrases on the spot
without much thinking at all like a
communication reflex and you'll be a lot
more confident when using them too
before a meeting revise your word
journal and choose one to two of the
words or phrases that you want to use in
that meeting do the same before a social
or business conversations where you want
to shine do the same before
presentations where you want to convince
and impress eventually these words and
phrases will become a part of your
communication repertoire and you'll be
able to use them a lot more freely and
confidently too this is the only way
you're going to train yourself to become
more articulate and well spoken if
you've watched this far in the video
clearly you are dedicated to becoming
more articulate and well spoken I have
at least six other videos on my Channel
about becoming more articulate and well
spoken you will find them in the
playlist right here tell me your
thoughts about what you learned in this
video by leaving a comment below thank
