Transcripts
it's kind of insane really how big
OptiFine actually is I mean it's one of
the only Minecraft mods that doesn't
really need an introduction just to the
mere pronunciation of the term OptiFine
everybody including your creepy uncle
and Alicia Keys they know you're talking
about making Minecraft smoother a staple
in the Minecraft Community for something
absolutely absurd like 10 years or
something for the long time OptiFine has
been the king when it comes to
Performance Minecraft mods but lately a
little bit of competition has popped up
but competition is only one thing all
competition aside lately it seems like a
shift in the simulation has occurred for
me it all seems to have really really
kicked off last year with the release of
Minecraft 1.20 the tricky trials update
the release of the armored paw drop
earlier this year with armadillos brand
new beautiful dog seems to have sped it
up a little bit more and then the very
recent release of a Minecraft and tricky
trials update I mean as scented off the
charts for a while now in almost every
single corner of the Minecraft Community
I've seen so many comments all the
boiling down essentially the same single
maybe double question where is OptiFine
in and what happened to it today you get
cozy buckle up because we're going to
talk all about
[Music]
it ah so optify like I said in the very
first sentence of this video it's a term
that doesn't really need any background
at all optify is one of the most iconic
and classic Minecraft optimization mods
of all time I mean at least for me when
I think about Minecraft and its Origins
when I got into the game and started
playing it and everything like that
OptiFine is one of those first core
memories that I have you see I was one
of the many many people out there that
just didn't have the opportunity or
means to get a cape in Minecraft but I
always saw capes were like one of the
sweetest most fired things also um this
picture right here is essentially the
exact image the embodiment of the laptop
that I began playing Minecraft on like
you thought placing anvils in Minecraft
was allow you haven't even heard my old
computer trying to run Minecraft
terrible Minecraft performance and the
dream of a cape it was all almost meant
to be it was fate it was Destiny that's
where our friend OptiFine pops up not
only can you get a hold of a cap by
donating to the developers of OptiFine
but I mean performance sure at the time
that I'm referencing all of these
beautiful modern settings weren't here
but more settings were absolutely a
thing and still up until this day modern
minecraft modern era with all the modern
updates and modern enhancements modern
fixes whatever you want to call them all
of the changes that the vanilla
Minecraft team has made OptiFine still
makes a pretty major difference in the
performance of Minecraft that is if it
was
released so the title now I realize it's
a bit dramatic by the time that you're
watching this you never know there might
be a full release of OptiFine from
Minecraft 1.21 but regardless lately it
sort of feels like maybe the end of an
era is upon us when it comes to OptiFine
and at the least OptiFine really being
the soul King the number one hono the
head boy of the Minecraft smoothing mods
Minecraft update 1.20 the trails and
tales update releasing last year this
was a pretty nice update pretty big
update that made people want to explore
all over the world to find everything I
the problem with this update is well
when you explore all over the world the
world starts to lag and optify
development of it it seemed to take a
huge slowdown with the 1.20 update like
specifically I can definitely remember
for waiting and waiting and waiting in
the guide world for OptiFine to
hopefully eventually update and then
like months later eventually it ended
updating but it was like way slower than
ever before now Minecraft 1.20 it added
a lot of nice things you explore all
around the world but under the hood it
made quite a few different improvements
as well this might have been one of the
things that initially led to the slow
development fast forward to the armor
pause update a fire update with
armadillo and dogs on the surface under
the hood oh my gosh components and
everything like them they've been
completely changed one of the longest
update minor change logs of all time
you're looking right at it right here I
mean look at this this stuff is it it's
absurd now I am no technical developer
surprise surpris I don't make OptiFine
but if I was a gambler I'd place a
pretty strong and high wager on the idea
that all of those technical changes well
they're only going to slow down
development of other mods even more and
now with 1.21 being out for almost 2
months opine seems to have gone missing
so first things first this account if
you're one of the many people who has
been wondering where optimine has gone
what it's been up to you got to drop a
follow on this thing and there's a
Discord to though it is technically an
unofficial account not directly related
to the OptiFine development team I
believe it is officially approved and
it's pretty legit now unfortunately
because some people are going to be a a
bit dense or something the plot the
mystery and the end of the era it
thickens you know how people could be
but all of those slow updates and the
whole timeline thing that we just went
over well you clearly that didn't cause
anybody to be like mean to the
developers of OptiFine no no no no
nobody would ever send hate and anger
and get pretty offensive to op theine
just because it simply is updating slow
surely no right hey everyone we've been
getting a lot of negativity under our
update post recently and would' like to
address it formally from earlier this
summer there was kind of like a little
bit of a meme picking up getting some
Traction in the community or it's like
opine haha it updates so so slow well
seems like it was kind of like maybe
getting taken a little too far we
understand just as much as you how there
are things that are not exactly
desirable or optimal but complaining
about it and being an allout hater is
not going to solve any problems we ask
that you be respectful to the OptiFine
community and the developers please and
then classically in a Twitter moment of
all time right in the replies that's
exactly what happens anyway so where has
it gone and what can we do in the
meantime earlier this year May 31st
specifically hey everyone new progress
update for you OptiFine 1.2.6 is halfway
done progress has been slow because SP
6114x has been making some back end
internal changes to how OptiFine is
updated which takes a lot of work so
boom right there and maybe a bit of
information that could have stopped
fires from getting so heated earlier on
optify a ton of internal work is being
done behind the scenes on a mod to maybe
make it a little bit better back to that
whole you know me not exactly being a
mod developer OptiFine Insider knowledge
thing H yeah you know how it goes
anytime there's a modcraft update code
stuff has changed and that means code
stuff has to change inside of a mod too
even more recently waiting for a 1.21
release we've got good news there will
be a release published for 1.21 but read
the thread below for more now keep in
mind it's all technically unofficial
information and not straight up
connected to the depth development for
OptiFine has been slow recently due to
IRL taking a priority rate now above mod
development no speculation there are
however if you didn't know unofficial
releases of OptiFine one of the ad has
been working on alternative versions of
OptiFine however these other versions
have been restricted to only snapshots
and pre-releases out of respect for the
main version and so that gets me kind of
to the reasoning behind today's video
not only have things felt a little bit
different in the community with a
notable lag of OptiFine for like
essentially a pretty long time now but I
also kind of wanted to make a video
talking all about the other alternatives
to OptiFine if that's like you know
something you're looking for and you
need it desperately so the Alternatives
while you and I alike are both continue
to wait for op OptiFine to update to now
Minecraft
1.21.1 here are some other options in
the thread from the OptiFine account
that I was talking about we can find a
link to something called optii following
that link we get this page right here is
pretty Bare Bones but we get the point
opai is sort of a fork a spin-off of
OptiFine if you will it's named after
this absolutely adorable cat but a big
shout out to Vader as well the other cat
of the developer of opai I just like you
know emotionally couldn't show the one
and not show the other one it's only
fair right anyways on a site it's all
pretty straightforward we're going to go
ahead and tap back to versions then on
this page right here we can see there
actually is a version for Minecraft
1.21.1 out right now I also wanted to
point out real quick too that if you're
into the joke updates like the April
Fool stuff well great news if I tap this
link then I'll see all of the April
Fool's update versions like the potato
snapshot and the vat update for optify
if we tap this link right here then just
like in OptiFine style we're taking to
the sketchiest looking site we tap skip
in the cor right here and then right
here dead center in the middle of the
screen in Peach we have download tap
that now just like we would do with
normal plain old OptiFine we close
Minecraft all the way once that download
has downloaded we'll go ahead and open
it then we'll tap install on whatever
this directory is right here probably
figured out itself right then we get a
warning this version of OptiFine is a
snapshot V and not fully supported it's
maintained by a different developer do
not report the bugs in opai to optify
run that quick little installer and then
wham bam just like that your version
switcher right over here for Minecraft
Java
OptiFine
1.21.1 and so just like that in a move I
can't believe it zooming optify it works
it's all here the settings the video
ones I mean okay they're not all here
things are a little bit different
shaders um unfortunately terrible news I
hate to say it but optii it will make
Minecraft run a little bit smoother for
you but unfortunately if you're looking
for shaders op deai is I it's not going
to cut it right now aside from the giant
disappointment of no shaders though
performance it's so much smoother than
vanilla Minecraft zooming the one we
know In Love from OptiFine it's here
pause the game tap options tap video
settings and a bunch of the other
different video settings are here as
well one that I feel like is definitely
different from optify is Quick Info
right like that definitely wasn't here
where we get all that extra little info
in the top corner or or was it I don't
know if this is like a new upcoming
thing or just something that's always
been here and I've never seen before but
yeah it's kind of cool you could change
this whole thing to like be able to get
extra information in the top corner like
for example targeted block right up
there yeah it's kind of cool as somebody
who makes videos and tries to like you
know make them as aesthetic as possible
then maybe like all of this other random
information on the top of the screen
isn't the most beautiful for you to look
at but maybe it's your Vibe for single
player I don't know either way optii
it's an amazing alternative and probably
the closest alternative out of the ones
we're going to take a look at the curse
Forge launcher so I don't know how you
do like modded versions of Minecraft
everybody has their own preference but I
like curse Forge inside of the curse
Forge launcher we launch it up head over
to Minecraft eventually find the search
bar if we go ahead and search in the
search bar lithium and no time at all a
couple of different results we're
looking for the one that has this purple
leaf right here if we tap install then
we get two options right here we can
either add it to a pre-existing profile
or we can create a brand new one if we
wanted to create a brand wouldn't we go
ahead and give it a name we go ahead and
tap on Advance if we need to and change
the Minecraft version if you have to and
then you tap carea now in game lithium
is sort of like the bare minimum when it
comes to OptiFine and performance
enhancements if you're looking for
something that is streamlined and
smaller than ever before well sliding
into video settings right here I mean in
fact it might not even be different at
all to be honest I'm not the most
knowledgeable on lithium but to my
knowledge all of the optimizations and
changes that lithium makes it just like
does it behind the scenes and you don't
really need to change any settings or
anything like it now I suppose one of
the downsides to lithium is optifi Zoom
yeah that's not a thing and yeah if you
wanted like tons of options when it
comes to customizing your video settings
and changing things I mean they're not
really here but if it's just about
improving your game's performance for
you lithium is a great option now real
quick I thought three was kind of like
the golden number but I want to send a
huge shout out to everyone who replied
to my Instagram story for this one when
I was working on this video I Threw a
story up on my Instagram and asked for
some of the largest alternatives to
OptiFine and I sort of picked like the
main largest ones that are also pretty
high quality and easy to understand but
there are so many more out there back
inside of the curse Forge launcher again
we search this time like lithium except
now sodium we search sodium we're
looking for something that looks very
similar to lithium except this time
green and with a like a flame thing now
one of the real cool things about sodium
is the fact that there are so many
different things you can change or add
on to it we're talking translations
different fixes different menus and even
more oh what I'm saying here is right
off the bat when it comes to OptiFine
lithium sodi well the sodium's got so
much support and a lot of options while
we're at it if we're looking for some
beautiful beautiful shaders will Ando
Iris right alongside sodium if you want
maybe like more in depth when it comes
to sodium or whatever you just let me
know by like leaving a like commented it
down below or something but right off
the bat sodium here I'm looking at the
Bare Bones basic one with Iris and stone
instead of video settings right here wow
wow wow that is so different looking
when we were just checking out
reminiscence in fact sodium was
installed inside of this thing and yeah
the video settings menu is so different
thankfully here if I have a question
about anything like I hover over it we
get a nice popup right dead center
telling me exactly what it's going to do
if I slide over to Shader packs because
I have Iris then you get a link right
here to modrin where you can go ahead
and download shaders safely this is
great for people who don't know now
after that point this isn't really like
an tutorial on installing shaders or
whatever but uh after that point follow
that link and then you have all these
different shaders download them install
them and just like that there you go now
compared to optify it may be the video
setting things of sodium are still a
little bit more Bare Bones but there's a
whole lot more customizability and
options here I have always kind of
thought due to all of the different
settings inside of OptiFine it can be a
little bit confusing the nice thing
about sodium and absolutely lithium is I
mean it's all pretty straightforward
performance Improvement OptiFine in the
end of a Minecraft era hopefully the
development and support of OptiFine will
go on for years and years and years into
the future but for many reasons things
have been a little bit different lately
and if you've been craving needing some
kind of thing to make Minecraft run a
little bit smoother again well well
hopefully this video helped you out
thank you all so much for watching
today's video and welcome to the end so
you know right here is where I say all
of the things your support it helps me
out huge time and is always appreciated
tap that like button if you enjoyed the
video double check make sure you're
subscrib thanks for watching everybody I
know today was a little bit different
we'll be back out it like normal
tomorrow it's been me Waddles I'll see
you then goodbye
