Transcripts
okay so now I'm here in front of the
engine room entrance and I'm about to
begin my daily rounds
hello guys today I'm going to show you
what the typical engine room looks like
I'll be doing my daily rounds I'm going
to bring you all four right
it's been a few days since our ship left
Korea and we are currently crossing the
Pacific Ocean heading towards the Bering
Sea the engine has been running smoothly
so far so good
[Applause]
I'll just do my rounds and show you what
typical ships engine room looks like
aboard a bulk carrier
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
first up will be our main air
compressors and air bottles
[Music]
max will be our incinerator so this is
where we burn our garbage and our sludge
we just have to make sure that it's
firing every day see so that we will not
have any accumulation of sludge or waste
oil
[Music]
[Music]
here's our waste oil tank
[Music]
and these are our diesel oil tanks
further down will be our heavy fuel
tanks we have also our booster pumps so
we are here in the purifier area
[Music]
[Applause]
here we have our lube oil and fuel oil
purifiers
[Music]
[Music]
and just around the corner will be our
sewage treatment plant
[Applause]
[Music]
now we've proceeded into the steering
gear room
[Music]
[Music]
number two steering gear is in service
we just have to make sure that there are
no leaks and that the hydraulic oil
tanks are in optimal capacity
[Music]
[Music]
this is our emergency fire pump
let's go down to the lower de
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
currently our number one generator is in
a service we've just checked the
parameters to make sure there are no
abnormalities and that it is running
smoothly
the generator provides electricity to
our ship so it is probably one of the
most important machinery on board
because without electricity everything
will shut down
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
these are our drinking water and fresh
water pressure tanks
and this is our oily water separator
[Music]
we are now passing around the Thutmose
part of our main engine so these are the
exhaust valves and assuming their cover
[Music]
and here we have our fuel Oh pumps you
just have to make sure that there are no
oil leaks whether fuel oil or Lube or
and also you have to check out for
exhaust gas tanks
[Music]
on the other side will be our
turbocharger
[Music]
over here we have our freshwater
generator it converts seawater into
freshwater using the process of
distillation
[Music]
[Applause]
flowing through the sight glass you can
see our freshwater distillate it will be
delivered by our distillate pump all the
way to our freshwater tanks
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
this area is our main lube oil filter
jacket cooling water pumps freshwater
and lube oil coolers and here we have
our fuel oil circulating pumps is the
fuel oil backwash filter and the fuel
oil heater for the main engine let's go
further down
[Music]
these are the alpha lubricators they
lubricate the main engine cylinders
[Music]
now this is the main engine emergency
maneuvering Stan
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
okay so just time to go to the lowest
part of the engine room
[Music]
let's check the tank tops make sure they
are clean and dry there shouldn't be any
oil or water leaks
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
these are the crankcase doors for the
main engine of course you couldn't open
them while the engine is running
[Music]
now we're headed to the half most part
of the engine room the stern tube area
[Music]
now that is our propeller shaft it goes
through the stern tube seal
[Music]
this is the intermediate shaft bearing
[Music]
[Applause]
now we're headed towards a flywheel of
the main engine
[Applause]
[Music]
that is the flywheel
[Applause]
that's the lube oil returning to the
sometime
[Music]
air cooler
[Music]
so let's check this side of the tank top
it's clean and dry very good
[Music]
so this area is clean and dry as well
let's check the emergency escape route
max
[Music]
let's just make sure that there are no
busted lamps
[Music]
this ladder goes all the way up to the
main deck
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
now we're going up top to the boiler
area
[Music]
[Music]
the boiler is not firing because we're
at sea is only in economizer mode
[Music]
let's visit the workshop
[Applause]
[Music]
is where all our tools are kept
[Music]
okay so now we're going into the engine
control room
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
from here we could monitor the
parameters of various machinery and
attend to any alarms
[Music]
so that's it for our daily rounds in the
engine room so as you might have seen
the most important thing to consider
during watchkeeping is to monitor the
parameters of the various machinery this
is in order for us to prevent any
malfunctions or worst case scenario we
will have a breakdown of machinery or
black out while the vessel is in the
high seas which is a very very dangerous
situation of course there are occasional
maintenance items when it comes to that
the basic rule to follow is safety first
and secure all tools in their proper
places after using them so these are
pretty much basic best practices see you
in the next video don't forget to hit
