Q & A

Transcripts
I think it's going to be worse um based
on my indications first of all you just
look at stock market volatil the big
volatil index 52- we moving average
minus TBO rate is as low as it was in
2007 when I had some major signals at
volatil we always REM revert upwards you
look at us stock market the GDP it's
basically two times that at before the
FI financial crisis is about 1.3 times
cash levels cash levels now um are about
10 11% of total market cap before the
financial crisis they're closer to
15% so um science here and and also one
thing that's really significant on a
global macro scale is China is heading
towards a pretty severe recession maybe
depression just look at their Global
their bond years a 10y note yield at
2.15 this morning is well below that US
Treasury at 378 379 and I think the
whole world is heading that way uh and
that's the big difference from the
financial crisis it was kind of the US
lead now I think it's Global macro it is
is hard to escape the tension brewing in
today's financial markets as we look
around there is an unmistakable sense of
unease Global Equity markets are
trembling under the weight of
significant losses from Wall Street to
nikay volatility is surging and
uncertainity looms large the viix often
referred to as wall Street's fear gauge
has shot up to levels reminiscent of the
early days of the pandemic it's a
warning signal that shouldn't be ignored
in the midst of this chaos one
particular asset stands out an asset
that Mike mclone Senior commodity
strategist at Bloomberg intelligence
believes could surge dramatically in the
coming years this asset has the
potential to rise by at least 50% by the
end of the year but before we reveal
what it is let's dive deeper into the
current state of the markets and why
Mike mclone believes we might be on the
verge of something even worse than the
2008 financial crisis so let's get
started the Global Financial landscape
is is trembling the once steady growth
of equity markets has given way to a
roller coaster of uncertainity major
indices which had been on a steady
upwards trajectory are now faltering the
fear of an economic slowdown in the US
coupled with growing concerns about a
global recession is causing Widespread
Panic but why is this happening
according to Mike mclone the signs have
been there for anyone paying attention
he draws eie parallels between today's
market conditions and those of 2007
just before the infamous Global
financial crisis back then the
volatility index was unusually low
lulling investors into a false sense of
security today we find ourselves in a
similar situation where Market
valuations have soared to unsustainable
levels mclone warns that this time the
situation could be even dire in 2007 the
stock markets valuation relative to GDP
was around 1.3 times today it's nearly
double of that cash levels which serve
as a safety net for Market downturns are
alarmingly low just as if they were
before the last crisis but the most
concerning factor is the global scale of
this impendent crisis while the 2008
crisis was largely us Centric mclone
believes that this time the entire world
is wobbling on the edge of a severe
recession perhaps even a depression as
mclone points out the situation in China
is particularly troubling the world's
second largest econ eom is showing signs
of a severe slowdown Chinese bond yields
have plummeted signaling deep rooted
economic problems when a giant like
China falters the Ripple effects are
felt across the globe this is no longer
just a US problem it's a global crisis
in the making but how did we get here
it's a classical case of Market forces
at play for years markets were driven to
unprecedented highs by excessive
liquidity and speculation the S&P 500
one of the most closely watched indices
climbed to levels far above its 200 day
moving average investors were riding the
waves of optimism buying the dip at
every opportunity first of all what's
it's not so much what's driving the
Panic this is normal mean reversion at
the moment the S&P 500 at about as we
speak 5200 is well above its 200 day
moving average at 5,000 there's still a
lot of room for it to just catch up it's
just an example of what typically
happens in Market markets is the most
powerful force being revers markets just
got way too expensive then we saw kind
of the The Plunge in the Yen car trade
the give back of all that liquidity
there but I think to me to me the best
leading indicators for all this has been
Bitcoin it trades 247 it's massive
speculation has very high volatility and
started breaking down on Saturday then
Sunday should told you what's going on
however as mclone cautions what goes up
must come down the Market's rapid Ascent
was unsustainable and now we're
witnessing the inevitable correction
this isn't just a minor dip it's a
significant mean reversion a natural
process where markets return to more
reasonable valuations after a period of
excessive exuberance to understand the
severity of the current situation mlon
points to bitcoin the poster child of
speculative assets Bitcoin with its 24/7
trading and extreme volatility has been
a leading indicator of Market sentiment
earlier this year Bitcoin began to break
down signaling the start of a broader
Market correction for mclone bitcoin's
decline was a canery in the coal mine
warning of the trouble ahead but while
Bitcoin may have been the first thing to
fall it certainly won't be the last as
the S&P 500 struggles to maintain its
lofty Heights mlon warns that we should
brace for further declines the Federal
Reserve May step into ease monetary
policy but even that might not be enough
to prevent the coming storm in the midst
of all of this volatility one one asset
is beginning to stand out as a potential
Safe Haven an asset that mclone believes
could play a crucial role in the years
to come gold despite its recent downturn
it's showing signs of strength that
could Propel it to a new height
historically gold has been a store of
value during times of Economic
uncertainity and mlon believes this time
will be no different while gold has been
under pressure largely due to managed
money Futures position that are
stretched long mlon sees this as a
temporary setback he points out that
gold went through a similar pattern in
2008 back then it dropped significantly
before rallying to record highs in the
years that followed this time around
Mone believes that the conditions are
even more favorable for a gold rally so
what is this cheap asset that Mike
mclone believes will surge in value
after carefully analyzing the market
dynamics it becomes clear that mclone is
talking about gold but why gold and why
now
so I'll I'll reiterate what I've been
saying for at least a year I think it's
a matter of time gold gets to $3,000 an
ounce it could meet the S&P 500 at that
same level it always has gone back to
one to one um and it could it's probably
going to have some back and fill I don't
know how much lower goals but 2200 is
pretty good support but the significance
is gold has had a history of rallying
when treasury bond prices are mean
rallying meaning yields so in in terms
of dollars now if you're in a country
that's the Bas in your currency sure
Gold's always going to be about currency
to basement hedging but in this case I
think those are the two best potentially
performing Market asset classes in the
next few years as we head towards This
Global recession which is clearly the
case in Commodities and that is gold and
US Treasury long Bond so I gold has
always been considered as a safe haven
in times of economic uncertainity but
there's more to the story according to
mclone gold is currently undervalued
relative to other assets especially when
compared to its historical performance
during times of Crisis he points out
that gold has a history of rallying when
treasury bond prices rise a relationship
that is becoming increasingly relevant
in today's market treasury yields Are
Climbing as investors flock to the
relative safety of government bonds this
fly to safety is a clear sign that the
market is anticipating trouble ahead and
as treasury yields rise gold is expected
to follow suit mclone is confident that
gold will not only recover but could
reach unprecedented levels in the coming
years as the market continues to
fluctuate Mone draws an interesting
comparison between gold and Bitcoin in
recent years Bitcoin has been touted as
digital gold a modern alternative to the
precious metal however Mone remains
skeptical of bitcoin's ability to serve
as a long-term store of value while
Bitcoin has certainly captured the
imagination of investors its extreme
volatility makes it a risky bet in times
of Crisis gold on the other hand has
stood the test of time for centuries it
has been the go-to asset in times of
economic turmoil mclone believes that as
the financial crisis deepens gold will
once again prove its worth as the
ultimate Safe Haven he predicts that
gold could soar to $3,000 an ounce or
even more far outpacing Bitcoin and
other speculative assets looking beyond
the immediate Market turmoil Mone wants
of a broader deflationary cycle that
could take hold in the coming years he
explains that we are moving into a
period of deflation reciprocal to the
inflation we experienced at the peak in
2022 this shift is being driven by
several factors including the unwinding
of the largest money pumps in history
and the global economic slowdown
Commodities which have been a leading
indicator of economic health are showing
clear signs of deflation Industrial
Metals For example have seen significant
price declines signaling weakening
demand mclone believes that this
deflationary trend will continue
impacting everything from stock prices
to real estate I think there's times to
be underweight risk assets and
overweight riskof assets and I think in
the next few years some of the best
performing assets will be gold and US
Treasury long bonds as we tilt towards a
deflationary period reciprocal to
inflation that we got to the peak in
2022 it's happening globally keep an eye
on China it's happening in Europe we see
issues in Canada the question is what
stops in the disjuncture we will see
Cuts in US interest rates and they're
still pretty high but one I'll end with
this the US unemployment rate it's 4.2
or 4.3% bottom last year at 3.4% it's
never bottom that low without going to
6% and that's just 100% probability
since 1947 and I suspect that might work
let's see how different is this time so
as the financial markets continue to
unravel mclone advises investors to
focus on safety in his view the best
performing assets in the coming years
will be gold and long-term US Treasury
bonds both of these assets have a
history of Performing well during
periods of economic distress and they
offer a level of security that is hard
to find in other Investments the logic
is simple as the global economy tilts
towards a deflationary period the demand
for safe assets will increase gold with
its intrinsic value and US treasuries
backed by the full faith and credit of
the US government are the natural
choices for investors seeking to protect
their wealth one of the key factors
supporting mone's bullish outlook on
gold is the recent shift in ETF flows
after a two-year downtrend EDF inflows
into gold are starting to turn upward I
think you're right well so that's a key
thing now if you look overlay like a 200
day mov on average of gold Bitcoin and
S&P 5 they're all heading straight up
and one of them's going to um I and I
think only one's going to win out of
that and I fully expect 200 day moving
average to tilt lower in Bitcoin to tilt
lower an S&P 500 as they tilt lower but
bit but gold has one key difference is
it is a store value and um it's been
breaking up for a while and the deepest
plan pockets on the planet are buying
gold also what just happened recently is
that we've had a two-year downtrend in
ETF flow it's just starting to turn
upward so one thing that's holding gold
back right now it's pressuring right now
is manage money Futures positions are
pretty stretched long for a bull market
they're getting stopped out it's one of
those environments it's not a it's not a
want to sell it's a got to sell you sell
what you can um that's happening in gold
and Bitcoin but Gold's going to come out
of this ahead because as a percentage of
compared to ETFs are much much more
significant than Futures were um back in
2008 when gold went to a th000 it
dropped to 700 and then it started then
move all the way up to 1900 so I think
this is a normal reaction but the bigger
picture problem is so this is a strong
signal that institutional investors are
beginning to see the value in Gold once
again at the same time
managed money Futures positions in Gold
are currently stretched long indicating
that the market is positioning itself
for a significant move higher while
there may be some short-term volatility
mclone believes that the overall trend
for gold is decidedly upwards so as we
stand on the brink of a financial crisis
that could be worse than 2008 it's more
important than ever to be prepared the
global economy is facing a storm of
challenges slowing growth in China CH
raising fears of a US recession and
increasing Market volatility amidst this
chaos Mike mclone points to a potential
Lifeline a lowcost asset with the
potential to Surge in value while
markets struggle this asset gold could
soon reach $33,000 an ounce offering a
safe haven for investors in a world
filled with risk gold and us treasuries
might be the lifeboats you need the
warning signs are clear and the time to
act is now will you be ready when the
storm hits
