Transcripts
all righty everyone welcome to another
video you know i've dumped a few hundred
hours into this game but somehow i have
never achieved perfection
i know i know which means i have been
through multiple playthroughs where i
make it to the end game but i never
actually finish it off so it's safe to
say i've played through many year ones
in this game and through those many
playthroughs i have developed a strategy
to maximize my time and potential during
my first year of stardew valley for
those who have seen my 100 day series
it's pretty similar to what i did during
that and if you haven't then you should
go watch that after you finish this one
because 200 days will be coming out soon
but i really wanted to go into detail
about what i did and why i did it before
we get into it i just want to say that i
will split this guide into six parts the
first half of spring the second half of
spring summer fall winter and skills and
the first half of spring is heavily
inspired by foxy fern's mid max guide
that she did and i highly recommend it
it's a great video and i will link it in
the description for you all to check out
i'm not going to take credit for coming
up with this strategy but i do change it
a wee bit here and there as anyone else
would so disclaimer this is by no means
a mid max guide of year one but the
intention is to give newer or even older
players a step in the right direction if
they're feeling stuck or you want to get
the most out of the valley anyway enough
chit chat let's get this guide rolling
the goal of the first half of spring is
to set up our income so money has a big
snowball effect in this game so we're
gonna do our best to set up our farm
with lots of crops for gold quick note
before we start in the character
customization screen click the option to
make the community center completion in
year one a thing so we don't have to
leave things up to rng your first day on
the farm should include clearing the
farm and getting enough wood for chest
bring your hoe in scythe as you walk
around the valley and be on the lookout
for forageables and fiber to whack you
want to get as many wild seeds as you
can and whacking fibre is a very good
way to get them make sure to pop by
piers to buy some extra parsnip seeds
you can even sell some forageables to
get more but keep a couple of her energy
and then head back and plant and water
as many crops on your cleared out area
as you can congratulations you have just
maximized your first day on the farm on
your second day grab enough wood for a
chest and meet willy down at the beach
when you get the rod head up to the
mountain lake you can set up your chest
here and fish for the day make sure to
get any treasure chests that pop up and
if you run out of room in your inventory
to hold fish you can put them into your
chest for safe keeping on the third day
you'll want to take any fish you've
caught the day before down to willy's
shop you see we're gonna sell all of it
to get the fibreglass rod and some bait
if you find you're short on funds just
fish out on the pier until you have
enough and once you've got the rod you
can head back up to the mountain lake
and fish day three and four consist of
fishing and we're aiming to get to level
five on our fishing skills so that we
can sell our fish for more gold any
valuables you find in treasure chests
can be dumped into the shipping bin for
some extra gold and on the night of day
four bring all your fish back home to
sell in the morning so on day five your
parsnips will be ready i would advise to
keep about 10 to 15 of them for energy
and to sell the rest along with any fish
you've caught but do keep any iridium
gold chubs you've caught because they
are great for energy purposes get enough
wood for another chest and head up to
the mines at the mines you want to get
down as far as you can go but ultimately
you want to end up with at least 45
copper and enough stone to make a
furnace when it gets late return to the
farm with the materials to make a
scarecrow and a furnace if it's early
enough you can start smelting copper
bars in your furnace a couple of cheeky
tips turn your bug meat into fishing
bait so you don't have to buy it and
plant any rice shoots by your lake area
for a little extra farming xp on the
sixth continue to smelt copper so you
have five copper bars and prep a huge
area of your farm for a lot of potatoes
when 9am hits go into clint's and get
yourself a copper pickaxe upgrade before
stopping at piers to buy your potatoes i
usually aim for 200 potato seeds but if
you're a bit under that's okay too head
back to the farm and spend the rest of
the day planting and watering all your
potatoes remember to use those chubs we
save for energy to help you get them
more watered before bed on day seven
water all your plants and head back up
to the mountain lake since we don't have
our pickaxe today we'll have to spend
our day fishing but today is an
important day because any fish you catch
will be our source of energy when we're
running low over the next few days days
8 9 10 and 11 are going to look exactly
the same once you've got your copper
pickaxe head to the mines and we're
going to go down as far as we can each
day to get to level 80. each time you
reach an elevator level take it back up
to the top to smelt oars specifically
iron refined quartz and gold once we get
to level 80. you can afford to use
copper ore on furnaces because at the
moment we don't need copper bars when it
hits 12 30 pm take any valuables back
home like minerals and geodes to ship
for extra money and repeat the same the
next day and the next day and the next
until the 12th on the 12th our potatoes
will be ready for picking so harvest
them all and hopefully you'll get to
level 6 farming level 6 farming is very
essential for the sky because it unlocks
quality sprinklers if you don't get
level 6 farming that's ok there's no
need to panic any mixed seeds you
planted may help you to get over the
line but if you don't want to take any
chances go to peers and buy yourself
some extra parsnips for your extra xp
and don't forget about your rice that
you planted too i keep a few potatoes
for energy and sell the rest and then i
keep going down in the mines if you
reach level 80 or have reached level 80
that's fantastic just keep farming floor
40 and 80 for iron refined quartz and
gold and smelting it as you go if not no
need to worry we've still got time up
our sleeves the morning of the 13th is
up to you i spend it clearing some farm
but if you want to hit the mines that's
great too just make sure you leave by 12
30 so you can get to the egg festival in
time at the festival you can blow all
your gold you've made so far on
strawberry seeds and if you want to play
the egg hunt then absolutely do so side
note we're not going to plant our
strawberries just yet
we still have a couple of days to do
stuff before we can plant them and still
get two harvests out of them based on
how many strawberries you bought spin
the 14th gathering enough materials you
need for the amount of quality
sprinklers you need for example i ended
up buying 280 strawberry seeds which
meant i needed to have 35 quality
sprinklers to water them all also ship
off any valuables you find on the 15th
you can continue to do this or you can
spend it prepping a farm like i did
laying out all your sprinklers and
tilling soil do make sure you've got one
normal or quality sprinkler in your area
dedicated to your spring crops the 16th
is the last day you can plant your
strawberries and get two harvests out of
them so prioritize getting them all
planted on the 17th make sure to head to
georgia mart to get your spring crops
because piers will be closed
but if you forget like i did you can
still make it work if you head into
peers on the 18th and buy your spring
crops with speed crew
and that is the first half of spring
dawn
now that all the hard work is over and
you have some time to breathe what
should you do well there's a couple of
things we need to get done first of all
you'll need to open up the community
center so head into town after 9am and
get the cutscene with louis and if you
already had it then head on down to the
wizards tower second of all there are a
few things we can get for the community
centre and its bundles make sure to
complete the spring forageables bundle
and catch all the fish you need up at
the mountain lake where you can catch a
carp ball head largemouth bass and a
chub and in the river you can catch a
sunfish a catfish when it's raining a
shad when it's raining and a bream after
6 pm and off the pier by the ocean we
can catch a sardine and an eel when it's
raining and it's after 4 pm if you get
unlucky and you get no rainy days for
the rest of spring all of the fish that
require it to be raining can be caught
in summer fall or both so there's no
need to worry they're just good to get
out of the way so we don't have to worry
about them later for the rest of spring
you can fill up your time with finishing
off the mines clearing out your farm to
get materials fishing for extra money or
energy or checking the traveling card
every friday and sunday for a red
cabbage seed and you can pick your
strawberries when they're ready to be
picked since we made it all the way down
to level 80 in the mines you should have
access to everything you need to
complete the boiler room in the
community center unlocking the mine
carts makes it so much easier to getting
around also setting up an oak tree farm
is a great idea oak resin is needed to
make kegs and you'll want lots of them
so setting up an area on your farm to
have oak trees with tappers is a great
idea on the 28th after your last
strawberry harvest make some more
quality sprinklers for the summer season
like i said money has a big snowball
effect and we are going to make the most
out of it
we'll start off the summer season by
purchasing all the seeds we need to you
should have tons of money from all your
strawberries so gold won't be too much
of a problem make sure to purchase one
of each summer crop a melon red pepper
tomato and blueberry get a bunch of
melon seeds for the quality crops bundle
purchase one poppy seed and one
sunflower seed for the bulletin board
items and splurge the rest on blueberry
seeds i only got enough for the amount
of sprinklers i needed because i still
wanted money left over to get things
like coops and barnes as you'll see once
you've planted them all back on your
farm your crop area is pretty much good
to go but don't get too comfy though
because there's a lot you can still be
doing in the summer season make sure to
grab your summer forageables from around
the valley and grab all the fish you
need you can catch a sturgeon from up in
the mountain lake and a tuna a red
snapper when it's raining tilapia and
puffer fish from the ocean make sure to
upgrade your tools to at least steal
especially your axe and pickaxe so you
can clear out everything on your farm
and unlock the secret woods keep an eye
out for fiddle headphones in the secret
woods because you'll need one of them
for the bulletin board some gold you can
get from your blueberries can go towards
unlocking the vault that way you can
unlock the bus and travel to the desert
by having the secret woods and desert
open you can now go fishing for the wood
skip and the secret woods sand fish in
the desert and ghost fish in the mines
which is all the fish you need for the
specialty fish bundle other things you
can be doing are planting trees in the
desert for wood for kids giving out
birthday gifts to villagers building up
an animal area and getting one of every
animal getting a sweet gym berry for the
fall season from the traveling cart and
repairing the beach bridge don't pass up
on getting the backpack upgrades because
they will help a lot if you're feeling
on top of stuff you could be doing skull
kevin runs to get materials you could
also try completing some monster slayer
goals more specifically one i usually go
for early on is 500 dust sprites which
unlocks the burglars ring
this ring essentially gives you double
monster drops and it's very convenient
to have if you haven't picked one up yet
farming bugs for an ancient seed is a
great idea too this will give you a head
start on growing lots of ancient fruit
to turn into wine in the late game and
if you're feeling stuck this is a great
thing to try and get sometimes you may
be low on some materials so don't be
afraid to spend a couple of days in the
mines resetting level 20 and 40 for
basic materials like stone fiber coal
copper iron and anything you can get
your hands on do make sure to purchase
and plant an apple and pomegranate tree
on your farm too there are two items
needed for bundles like the fodder
bundle and enchanters bundle by the end
of summer you should have the boiler
room and vault completed
at the start of fall make sure you head
to pierce to get all the seeds you'll
need this includes your four crop seeds
which are a corn eggplant pumpkin and a
yam and some corn and pumpkin seeds for
the quality crops bundle you'll see for
gold i ended up going half and half on
cranberries and pumpkins and there's
reasons for this cranberries were for
quick cash and pumpkins were to put into
kegs for more money down the track if
you wanted to you could totally fill it
up with pumpkins and make more money by
putting them into kegs but i just wanted
both in terms of community center stuff
you should only have a few left to tick
off for the fall season keep an eye out
for your fall forageables and if there
are any fish left to catch for the fish
tank now is the season to do it other
things you can be getting done in fall
is finishing off your animal area if you
haven't already and getting your hands
on animal products for the animal bundle
don't forget to plant your rear seed too
but if you forget like i do stupid don't
worry because you'll have the green
house unlocked soon anyway and you can
just plant it in there keep on top of
birthdays and make sure to upgrade your
house once from robins to get the
kitchen you'll need the kitchen to make
a maki roll and fried egg for the chef's
bundle luis and robin would have put up
the special quests board so don't
neglect completing some of them they can
give you some great items if you get a
chance to complete the prismatic slime
quest do that one asap this is because
completing it lets you craft monster
musk which attracts more monsters while
in the mines and this is going to be a
huge help in completing monster slayer
goals keep an eye out on the traveling
cart for a red cabbage seed and plant it
in the greenhouse when it becomes
available if you haven't gotten it
already that is you should get the
pantry completed by four once all your
crops have grown so utilize the
greenhouse with your ancient fruit and
other crops you need to grow make sure
to visit the desert to cut down your
trees and use it to make a lot of kegs
because once your pumpkins are ready
then you can make a load of pumpkin
juice which is going to give you a lot
of profit keep doing skull kevin runs
and if you're really stuck not knowing
what to do the best use of your time can
be giving out loved gifts to villagers
or applying some monster musk and trying
to complete the monster slayer goals
the first day of winter will look a
little different to other seasons but we
still want to be planting stuff so scour
the valley for your winter forageables
to hand in the community center this
will complete the crafts room and give
you the winter seeds which you should
plant on your farm if you haven't gotten
one already head down to the beach to
try and find a nautilus shell as you'll
need one for the research bundle as to
what you should do in winter continue to
complete special quests from the board
keep giving birthday gifts out on
birthdays hit the skull cavern on good
luck days aim to get 60 donations to the
museum so that gunpla gives you the
sewer key so you can go and visit crobis
and take your sweet gem berry to the old
master cannoli statue in the secret
woods you can farm hardwoods so when you
finish the community centre you'll have
all the materials you need to fix the
boat and head off to ginger island and
keep going for some monster slayer goals
if you are feeling really stuck just
head to the star drop saloon and play
some juno mercado journey of the perry
king until you become inspired once
you've completed the community center
there are still heaps to do you can head
up to the railroad and help the wizard
get his magic ink back or you could fix
the boat and head on over to ginger
island there's always something to do in
this game as long as you remember to do
it which i am terrible at which is
partly why i even made this guide in the
first place
skills can always be changed but here
are my recommendations for what skills
you should choose during your first year
of stardew valley for farming level 5
choose tiller crops being worth more
just gives you more gold and at level 10
choose artisan this means when you hand
in your pumpkin juice it'll give you 40
more gold for mining skills i would go
with miner at level 5 which gives you
plus one or per vein this is especially
good early game when you're just trying
to gather as many resources as possible
and at level 10 choose prospector which
doubles your chance of finding coal coal
can be hard to come by sometimes and in
your first year you'll want quite a lot
of it for foraging i chose the forester
perk for 25 more wood when shopping
trees down this was so i could save some
money on buying wood for kegs as i
planted so many trees in the desert and
then i followed that perk with
lumberjack at level 10 just for some
extra hardwood these are two great year
one perks but for late game i would
change them together at level five and
botanist at level 10 as the great end
game perks for fishing skills obviously
i went with fisher and anglers they make
fish worth more gold and it just makes
sense to choose them for your first year
and finally for combat perks i chose
fighter and defender as it gives you
more damage in hp i usually keep these
perks into the late game because other
perks don't seem as useful but i've
never really tried them out so i guess i
can't say too much on them but you know
and there you have it a full guide on
your first year of saju valley hopefully
this gives you the inspiration or kick
in the right direction to take your farm
to the next level or maybe you just
learn something new all of which are
great and if you are feeling a bit stuck
on what you could be doing now you have
hundreds of things to do like i said
before this is just a guide so feel free
to follow it as closely or as loosely as
you want obviously some things will be
different as rng will be different for
everybody and if you have any questions
about anything in this video let me know
in the comments below and i'll do my
best to answer all of them just wanted
to quickly say thank you for all the
support of my channel it's very much
appreciated and don't forget to like and
subscribe for more statue content i have
got lots of fun stuff lined up for you
all anyway thanks for watching everyone
you
