i share details on how and why i bought

play00:02

my first house at 22 years old

play00:05

first home buyer tips and how much money

play00:07

i needed to buy my home

play00:08

i even showed you guys how my house

play00:10

looked completely empty

play00:12

and took you along my journey on

play00:14

decorating some of the key rooms in my

play00:15

house

play00:16

but then i realized

play00:20

i have been holding out because i

play00:21

haven't shared one of the key

play00:23

parts to my decorating process which is

play00:27

how i bring my decor visions to life on

play00:29

photoshop

play00:30

first so welcome to my home series mini

play00:33

series

play00:34

for how i used photoshop to interior

play00:36

design at my house

play00:38

let's do it

play00:47

what's up you guys welcome back to my

play00:48

channel if you're new here i'm alexis

play00:50

and currently i'm doing a home series

play00:52

where i just talk about my experience as

play00:54

a young homebuyer

play00:55

and give you guys some tips along the

play00:57

way as well as just show you how i'm

play00:59

decorating my house i also do some other

play01:01

things on my channel and i'll continue

play01:02

to

play01:03

just show you guys a little bit more of

play01:04

my life but that's basically what this

play01:06

channel is about

play01:07

so so in today's video i'll just be

play01:09

sharing some tips and tricks for

play01:11

how you can use photoshop or any type of

play01:13

like

play01:14

online design tool

play01:18

um to virtually interior design a room

play01:21

for yourself

play01:22

like i said earlier this is one of the

play01:23

key things that i always do

play01:25

to help me kind of just be more

play01:27

confident in my decisions when

play01:28

decorating the rooms in my house

play01:30

but disclaimer i am by no means

play01:34

no means an expert at photoshop but i

play01:37

have been using photoshop for some years

play01:38

now honestly but as always i just want

play01:40

to kind of share

play01:41

what i can bring to the table to you

play01:44

guys

play01:44

this is the table and this is

play01:47

this is what i'm bringing to it i do

play01:49

have a pretty simple five-step process

play01:50

that i typically always use when i'm

play01:52

like decorating before executing and

play01:56

i hope you guys find it helpful but yeah

play01:58

without further ado

play01:59

let's get right into it so for today i'm

play02:02

going to show you guys a design

play02:03

for the living room so just a little

play02:05

caveat i did end up doing

play02:07

a different design for my actual living

play02:09

room just because

play02:10

of the furniture pieces that i had for

play02:13

the design i

play02:14

ended up wanting something completely

play02:15

different but this was one of my

play02:17

favorite designs and since no one has

play02:19

seen it i decided i would show you guys

play02:21

so i have my photoshop open and really i

play02:24

just use

play02:24

three main tools for these projects

play02:26

which are the

play02:27

move tool the quick selection tool

play02:31

and the rectangle tool so yeah those are

play02:33

basically the three that i use

play02:35

um and then sometimes the eraser but

play02:37

step number one

play02:38

is to just get a blank i guess canvas to

play02:41

use um i like to use an

play02:42

empty picture of the room that i'm

play02:44

decorating or you can always just pull

play02:46

an image from online

play02:48

to use as inspiration or really whatever

play02:50

you want step number two

play02:52

is to create the wall colors

play02:55

so picking a color from the color wheel

play02:58

i'm using this like tan

play02:59

grayish beige color another tip is if

play03:03

you find a color that you really like

play03:04

you can look up the rgb code online and

play03:06

just place it in here

play03:08

but yeah so i'm going to use my

play03:10

rectangle tool to create a rectangle

play03:12

which i'm going to warp

play03:14

into the correct size for the walls

play03:17

i like to use the perspective warp

play03:20

feature so if you go up to edit

play03:22

you can scroll down and see perspective

play03:23

warp but it's grayed out because i need

play03:25

to convert this to a smart layer so

play03:27

with that layer selected of the

play03:28

rectangle i just right click it

play03:30

and convert it to a smart layer don't

play03:32

know what it means i just do it

play03:34

um so then i click the perspective warp

play03:36

size

play03:37

up my rectangle change it to the warp

play03:40

function

play03:41

and then size it up to each corner of

play03:43

the wall

play03:44

it's that easy and not sure if you can

play03:46

tell in this picture but i do have crown

play03:48

molding so i like to put

play03:50

the wall color under the crown molding

play03:52

at the top and then a little bit above

play03:53

the trim

play03:54

at the bottom just to kind of see how

play03:57

the color would look against

play03:58

the molding and trim then once that is

play04:02

in place i like to rename my layers so

play04:04

that i can easily reference them later

play04:06

so i just named this one

play04:07

back wall and then i hid the layer so

play04:09

that i could bring the outlets forward

play04:10

so zooming in i'm going to take the

play04:12

quick selection tool so that i could

play04:14

select all of the outlets and once they

play04:18

were all selected

play04:19

as i wanted them to i would just clean

play04:21

them up using

play04:22

the minus selection tool

play04:25

to just basically deselect anything that

play04:29

i didn't want

play04:30

um once i did that i just did ctrl c

play04:33

or command c to copy and then command v

play04:37

to paste the new layer with the outlets

play04:39

and then renamed them accordingly

play04:42

also in order for them to show up above

play04:44

the walls i have to move their layer

play04:46

above the wall that i put and then when

play04:49

i unhide it you can see the outlets are

play04:51

now in front of the wall color

play04:53

so i do this exact same process for the

play04:55

other wall as well as the windows to

play04:57

bring them in front

play04:58

and we are done with step two

play05:01

step three is to find and input

play05:03

furniture

play05:04

so i found most of my furniture from

play05:06

rooms to go like i said i ended up not

play05:08

using

play05:09

this actual design because i ended up

play05:11

going with different furniture

play05:12

but it's really simple and easy to just

play05:14

check on different furniture sites

play05:16

i find this to be helpful because if you

play05:18

do find something you really like you

play05:19

can

play05:20

easily order it online or just go in

play05:22

store and see how you like it in person

play05:24

so um for this design i used a

play05:27

regular sofa and just copy the image

play05:31

that you

play05:31

like and paste it into photoshop from

play05:34

here i can just resize it as i need to

play05:37

and adjust my layers so that the sofa is

play05:39

brought to the front

play05:41

we're also going to perspective warp the

play05:43

sofa so that it is angled a little bit

play05:45

just so it looks a little bit more

play05:47

realistic

play05:47

of course this is just a digital design

play05:50

so nothing will be perfect but

play05:51

i will say a tip would be to take

play05:54

measurements of your room and compare

play05:56

that to the measurements

play05:57

of these furniture pieces because that

play05:59

is the mistake that i have always made

play06:01

by not doing that and then i end up not

play06:03

liking

play06:04

the size of the furniture or i get

play06:06

something way too big

play06:08

really you can't win so definitely um

play06:11

if you can take measurements of your

play06:13

space as well

play06:14

as the furniture pieces that you're

play06:17

looking to put in

play06:18

so follow that same process of just

play06:19

finding different furniture pieces

play06:21

online i can't remember where i found

play06:23

these little white

play06:24

accent chairs but they were from an

play06:25

online store um

play06:27

and i just copied the different angled

play06:29

pictures that they had online

play06:31

and placed them into my photoshop

play06:33

project you can also take individual

play06:35

pictures of actual furniture pieces that

play06:37

you have

play06:37

in your real life and place them into

play06:39

your projects to see how they would look

play06:41

as well that's what i did with my coffee

play06:43

table inside tables these were actual

play06:45

tables that i

play06:46

had in my actual house i just took a

play06:48

picture of them and placed them into the

play06:50

project

play06:51

one thing i also really liked about uh

play06:52

this design was the floating tv panel i

play06:55

ended up not going with this

play06:56

but i thought it was super cute um so i

play06:59

just google searched floating tv panel

play07:01

went to images

play07:02

and then copied an image from an online

play07:04

site and pasted it

play07:05

into my project i find it easier to use

play07:08

some of the lifestyle images i already

play07:10

have decor

play07:10

on them um so that i don't have to

play07:12

tamper with adding more

play07:14

to see how it would look in my space

play07:17

once

play07:17

pasted i'll use the move tool to move it

play07:20

where i want it to go

play07:22

resize as needed and then take the quick

play07:24

selection tool

play07:25

to select all of the image that i would

play07:28

want so that would be the tv

play07:30

the floating panel in some of the decor

play07:32

pieces and then i copy

play07:34

and paste to add that new layer and then

play07:37

erase

play07:38

the old layer that contains the

play07:39

background this would just leave the

play07:41

floating panel

play07:45

now on to step four which is the decor

play07:48

so this is also one of the fun parts and

play07:50

brings the whole entire design to life

play07:52

and honestly makes my shopping process a

play07:54

little bit easier because i know what

play07:55

exact pieces

play07:57

i'm looking for really anything decor

play07:59

wise you can just play around

play08:00

and see what you want um also i really

play08:02

just like again

play08:03

looking on actual sites a lot of times

play08:06

so that if i

play08:07

do decide to go with everything that's

play08:09

in my design i can just go to those

play08:11

exact links and order them

play08:17

so then again i take my quick selection

play08:19

tool to select

play08:20

only the rug copy and paste it so that i

play08:24

can

play08:24

only take the rug and not use the

play08:26

background it's also helpful to find png

play08:28

or transparent images online but

play08:30

sometimes that's hard to do

play08:32

um so this is just another workaround

play08:34

then i am just

play08:35

shifting my layer order so that the rug

play08:38

can be under the coffee table

play08:39

and then i'm going to perspective warp

play08:41

after i resize

play08:43

so that it can be angled to fit nicely

play08:46

into the room

play08:56

i wasn't really feeling the throw pills

play08:58

that were on that rooms to go sofa so i

play09:00

like to look up my own throw pillows

play09:02

online um find something that i like

play09:05

copy and paste it you know the drill at

play09:07

this point and

play09:08

put it into my design

play09:20

then to duplicate it i just copied and

play09:22

pasted um the same pillow and then also

play09:24

added some white throw pillows to give

play09:26

it some pizzazz

play09:27

i definitely feel like step four is one

play09:29

of the most important parts because it

play09:31

is the makeup to the face

play09:32

as my mom says the eyebrows to the look

play09:36

it's what brings everything together to

play09:37

make it actually look

play09:39

good so get fun with this part and find

play09:42

whatever your heart desires

play09:44

for the curtains i follow a similar

play09:46

process except

play09:48

this image the curtains were kind of

play09:49

closed and i wanted to see what they

play09:50

looked like open

play09:52

so i ended up selecting half of the

play09:54

image

play09:55

copying pasting it on one side of the

play09:57

windowsill

play09:58

and then duplicating that to flip it

play10:00

over on the other side

play10:02

then i used the rectangle tool to just

play10:04

add a little black rod

play10:06

in the middle to make it look like it

play10:08

was actually there

play10:11

of course i couldn't forget a nice

play10:12

floral plant so added that

play10:14

adjusted everything for last finishing

play10:16

touches

play10:17

and that is it you could of course put

play10:20

more

play10:21

decor or get fun with it putting artwork

play10:23

on the wall or even test out different

play10:24

wall colors really anything you want to

play10:26

experiment with

play10:27

and last and final step number five is

play10:30

literally just to save

play10:32

export and execute so obviously make

play10:34

sure you're continuing to save your

play10:36

project along the way

play10:37

right at the end i like to save as

play10:40

a project and also save as a jpeg from

play10:43

there

play10:43

i will share it to my phone and that way

play10:46

i can just take that picture easily with

play10:48

me to different stores so i can refer to

play10:49

my design

play10:50

um whenever i'm looking for things and

play10:53

yeah that's basically it

play10:54

so that is how i design my living room

play10:57

on photoshop

play10:58

obviously i ended up executing something

play11:00

a little bit different

play11:01

and you guys actually have not seen my

play11:03

final living room so

play11:06

egg salad but this is just a starter

play11:09

example all the rest of the rooms that

play11:11

i'm going to be showing you

play11:12

most of them are exactly what i had

play11:15

designed i ended up

play11:16

executing to the t for the most part so

play11:18

if you are interested in this mini

play11:20

series and you'd like to see how i

play11:21

decorated the other rooms in my house

play11:23

that are reflective

play11:24

of the design showing some of those

play11:25

before and after pictures then make sure

play11:28

you subscribe to my channel and turn on

play11:30

your post notifications to be updated

play11:31

every time i upload

play11:32

also my final house tour will be coming

play11:35

very soon hopefully i'm still waiting on

play11:36

some things because of kobe
