Keywords

💡Feeling 100

The phrase 'feeling 100' is colloquially used to express being in top form or at one's best. In the video, the speaker discusses how they handle days when they're not feeling 100 percent, meaning they're not at their best or experiencing less than optimal mental or physical health. The speaker's personal example of being stressed and not having slept well illustrates this concept.

💡Problem Solving

Problem solving refers to the process of identifying a problem and determining the best way to solve it. The video script mentions that as entrepreneurs and CEOs, individuals are often adept at problem solving. However, the speaker suggests that when they're not feeling well, the instinct to problem solve can exacerbate the issue, as it can create a cycle of negative emotions.

💡Acceptance

Acceptance in this context means acknowledging and embracing one's current emotional state without judgment. The speaker talks about the importance of accepting emotions like anxiety or stress instead of fighting them, which can make the situation worse. This concept is central to the video's message of not letting emotions dictate one's actions.

💡Overstimulated

Being overstimulated refers to experiencing an excessive level of stimulation, often leading to stress or anxiety. The speaker uses this term to describe their own state of feeling overwhelmed and unable to settle into their new apartment, which contributes to their overall feeling of not being 100 percent.

💡Doing Nothing

In the video, 'doing nothing' is presented as a counterintuitive approach to handling bad days. Instead of trying to fix the problem or change one's circumstances, the speaker suggests that sometimes the best response is to do nothing and let the emotions pass. This aligns with the theme of not overreacting to negative feelings.

💡Values

Values are principles or standards that guide one's behavior and decision-making. The speaker emphasizes living in accordance with one's values rather than obeying one's emotions. This means continuing to act in ways that align with what one believes in, even on days when one doesn't feel well.

💡Overhaul

An overhaul refers to a thorough review or restructuring of something. The script mentions the tendency to want to overhaul one's life or routine when feeling bad, such as seeking new routines or treatments. The speaker advises against this drastic approach, suggesting that it's more beneficial to accept temporary feelings of being unwell.

💡Mental Management

Mental management involves the strategies and techniques used to control or influence one's mental state. The speaker outlines three strategies for managing their mental state when not feeling well, such as setting aside time to feel bad, writing down feelings, and reminding oneself that emotions are transient.

💡Silver Lining

A silver lining refers to a positive aspect or outcome in an otherwise negative or difficult situation. The speaker discusses finding the silver lining by recognizing the progress they've made in handling their emotions, even when they're feeling bad.

💡Transience of Emotions

The concept that emotions are transient means they do not last forever and will change over time. The speaker reassures viewers that emotions come and go, and it's unnecessary to alter one's life drastically when experiencing negative emotions, as they are a normal part of life.

💡Rational Emotions

Rational emotions are those that are considered logical or reasonable based on the situation. The speaker implies that emotions are often not rational, suggesting that they can be disproportionate to the actual circumstances. This idea supports the video's theme of not letting emotions dictate one's actions.

play00:00

what is up in this video today what i

play00:01

want to share with you is what i do when

play00:03

i'm not feeling 100 and how i handle

play00:06

having um bad days or being in a bad

play00:08

mood

play00:10

and this came from a question that um

play00:12

someone a few different people asked

play00:13

which is kind of along the lines of like

play00:15

what do i do when i'm not feeling a

play00:17

hundred percent and

play00:20

it's interesting because today for

play00:21

example i'm

play00:23

pretty stressed about stuff that's

play00:24

happening both at work and personally um

play00:28

i haven't slept well for a few days i'm

play00:29

in a new apartment um that we just got

play00:32

and i'm not settled at all yet um and

play00:34

i'm kind of overstimulated and i feel a

play00:36

little uh stressed and anxious and i

play00:38

don't like that feeling at all

play00:40

and so i felt like it was appropriate to

play00:41

make this video on the day where i'm not

play00:43

feeling well

play00:44

what i have come to realize

play00:46

is that the answer to what do i do when

play00:48

i'm not feeling 100

play00:50

is often nothing i think that's very

play00:52

unsettling but at the same time i find

play00:54

it very freeing because i think that

play00:57

as entrepreneurs and ceos

play00:59

we're so good at problem solving and so

play01:02

when we don't feel 100 we want to

play01:04

problem solve and a lot of the times

play01:07

this is actually what perpetuates the

play01:09

problem because almost what you're doing

play01:10

is you're telling your brain

play01:12

there's something wrong with feeling

play01:14

anxious with feeling overwhelmed with

play01:16

feeling sad instead of just accepting

play01:18

that emotion

play01:19

and

play01:20

not being frightened that you have it

play01:23

because in some way shape or form i

play01:25

think anxiety comes from you know it

play01:26

arises from different things but i think

play01:28

a lot of the times it comes we almost

play01:29

make it worse because we get anxiety

play01:31

about our anxiety we get stressed about

play01:32

our stress we're like why am i feeling

play01:34

this way i shouldn't be feeling this way

play01:35

like i'm the ceo i'm the leader i can't

play01:36

have a bad day and that's just not true

play01:40

but what i have come to realize is that

play01:41

oftentimes doing nothing is the best

play01:43

approach instead do your best that's

play01:46

really what i like saying like i'm going

play01:47

to do my best today i don't feel great i

play01:49

don't know when it's i don't know when

play01:50

i'm going to feel better right but i'm

play01:52

going to do my best today and i'm not

play01:54

going to change what the plan was

play01:56

and the reason for that is because like

play01:57

i said i think that then we train

play01:59

ourselves either we train ourselves into

play02:02

um not upholding our values because if

play02:04

we say every time i feel tired every

play02:06

time i didn't sleep well every time i

play02:08

feel sick every time i am overwhelmed i

play02:11

cancel meetings i don't work out i eat

play02:13

bad food well that's 50 of life

play02:16

so your life's not really gonna get

play02:18

where it needs to go if you just do that

play02:20

every time you don't feel good right and

play02:22

you know i think that that's

play02:24

um one end of the spectrum

play02:26

the other end of the spectrum is that we

play02:28

say i don't feel good i'm overwhelmed

play02:30

i'm anxious i need to fix this right now

play02:32

you know i need a new routine i need an

play02:34

infrared sauna i need a cold bath i

play02:36

needed this i need that and like to an

play02:38

extent things help right writing things

play02:40

down can help talking to your friend can

play02:42

help but when you have to completely

play02:43

overhaul your life because you know

play02:45

maybe you've been feeling super anxious

play02:47

maybe you've had stomachaches maybe you

play02:48

haven't slept for a few nights like

play02:50

whatever it may be i don't really think

play02:52

that means that you need to overhaul

play02:53

your life i think that maybe

play02:54

there's things going on and you're just

play02:56

feeling overwhelmed and that's just a

play02:57

natural part of life and it's okay not

play02:59

to feel 100

play03:01

and so the answer to that question is

play03:03

really nothing you know i try best to

play03:05

live by my values and not by my emotions

play03:08

or how i feel because how i feel changes

play03:10

all the time and odds are next week or

play03:12

the week after i will feel 10 times

play03:14

better than i feel right now and then if

play03:15

i

play03:16

cancel everything i don't work out and i

play03:18

eat badly because i'm not feeling well

play03:19

now i'm gonna look back later and be

play03:21

like dang i really wish i hadn't done

play03:23

that because i kind of set myself back a

play03:26

little bit and that's okay that happens

play03:27

we all set ourselves back at times but

play03:30

if i can catch myself and be aware of it

play03:32

and not do it then i would rather do

play03:33

that than the opposite i think that just

play03:36

understanding and accepting that not

play03:38

feeling good is a part of life it's a

play03:40

fact of life like and i think that a lot

play03:42

of the times if we are

play03:44

leaders and we put a lot of pressure on

play03:46

ourselves

play03:47

for some reason you know we think that

play03:48

we should also

play03:50

be the ones who never feel badly right

play03:51

and that's why that so many people make

play03:53

money off of like high performance this

play03:54

high performance that you know all these

play03:56

things

play03:56

and i have fallen into that trap as well

play03:58

but what i've come to realize full

play04:00

circle is that you just have to accept

play04:02

that sometimes you feel shitty and

play04:04

sometimes you get sick and sometimes you

play04:06

can't sleep and sometimes you have

play04:07

things in your mind and sometimes you

play04:09

know you have stomachaches because

play04:10

you're so stressed and all these things

play04:12

happen to people and they're completely

play04:13

normal

play04:14

and oftentimes our resistance of them

play04:17

our unwillingness to feel bad is what

play04:20

perpetuates feeling bad

play04:21

and so i like to think of it like i have

play04:23

a feeling it's in my body

play04:25

i need to let it move through my body

play04:28

and out

play04:28

and the way not to do that is by over

play04:31

compensating for how i feel right now by

play04:33

eating a ton of food by canceling all my

play04:35

meetings by watching netflix by

play04:37

buffering with something like that or by

play04:40

you know going the opposite direction

play04:41

and just making myself so busy that i

play04:42

can't think about anything can't feel

play04:44

the feeling and the reality is that

play04:45

feelings are normal and natural and

play04:48

if your brain knows that you hear the

play04:49

feeling the signal that is being told

play04:51

and you allow it to just be there then

play04:54

your brain probably will stop sending

play04:56

the feeling to your brain right to you

play04:59

and that's what i've come to see is to

play05:00

be true and sometimes it takes a day

play05:02

sometimes it takes two days three days

play05:03

four days whatever but it gets through

play05:06

and eventually you feel differently

play05:08

and so now when i say that you know i do

play05:11

nothing

play05:12

and i accept feeling shitty and i'm like

play05:14

i'm gonna do what i said i was going to

play05:15

do regardless of how i feel because

play05:17

if i

play05:19

give myself an out every time i feel a

play05:20

bad way that's

play05:22

quite a lot of time i'm losing so

play05:23

instead i have three things that are

play05:25

kind of like my go-to's when i'm not

play05:27

feeling too great and it doesn't involve

play05:29

changing any external circumstances but

play05:31

it's kind of just like mental management

play05:33

and so the first thing i usually do is i

play05:35

just set aside time to feel shitty and

play05:38

think about how i feel

play05:39

um usually

play05:41

i tell myself like i'll go through my

play05:43

day like today for example i had six

play05:44

meetings before i filmed this and i have

play05:46

a break right now i'm gonna film this

play05:47

and then after this i have like an hour

play05:49

and so i'm gonna go on a walk and i'm

play05:50

gonna feel like for like an hour

play05:52

i'm going to let that happen then your

play05:54

brain knows it's almost like okay you

play05:55

have a designated time where you're

play05:56

going to let yourself feel these

play05:57

feelings

play05:58

and for some reason that helps me get

play06:00

through when i know that like i'm going

play06:02

to have a time where i can address this

play06:04

right and so i set aside like 30 minutes

play06:06

just to think about it allow myself to

play06:08

feel it or do whatever i need to do like

play06:09

if you need to cry cry if you need to

play06:11

scream screams you need to go on a run

play06:12

go and run whatever it is um i think

play06:14

setting aside the time to be present

play06:16

with how you feel and to remember that

play06:18

it's okay to feel this way it's

play06:19

completely normal

play06:20

is the first thing the second thing is

play06:22

that sometimes um i write it down and so

play06:25

this could be i'm writing it to a friend

play06:27

like i'm texting friends being like oh i

play06:28

feel like today this could be that

play06:30

i'm writing it down to myself in a note

play06:31

on my phone this could be i'm writing in

play06:32

a journal this could be i'm writing it

play06:34

to a coach you know whatever it is i'm

play06:35

writing it down and it helps me to be

play06:37

more objective right and a lot of times

play06:40

i notice that when i start writing down

play06:41

why i'm feeling shitty i also start to

play06:43

find the silver lining because i'm proud

play06:45

of how i'm handling the situation i'm

play06:46

like i'm feeling shitty but i'm still

play06:48

doing everything i said i was going to

play06:49

do and i'm handling this way better than

play06:51

i might have a year or two years ago

play06:53

right and so that's finding the

play06:54

positivity in the negativity

play06:56

um

play06:57

and then the third thing is that i

play06:59

always remind myself i'm like thoughts

play07:00

and emotions come and go so the one

play07:03

thing i can rely on is knowing that they

play07:05

are unreliable

play07:07

and so they will come they will go and

play07:09

eventually i'll feel something else and

play07:11

i don't need to try and do things to

play07:13

feel differently right um i just need to

play07:16

let the emotion pass and it will pass

play07:18

and i don't need to be scared of it i

play07:19

don't want to be worried about i don't

play07:20

need to be anxious about it like we all

play07:21

have these terrible emotions that make

play07:22

us feel like a bear is about to eat us

play07:24

and just because we have those doesn't

play07:26

mean we need to alter our lives it's

play07:28

completely normal that is how i show up

play07:30

when i'm not feeling 100

play07:31

i think that for me

play07:33

again this goes back to

play07:35

living in accordance with your values

play07:37

rather than obeying your emotions

play07:40

emotions are often not rational they're

play07:42

often not

play07:43

um i don't look into them i'm not like

play07:45

oh there's some giant deeper meaning

play07:47

here i need to solve through trauma

play07:49

therapy like i'm like we all are humans

play07:51

we all have trauma we all crap it's

play07:53

happened like

play07:54

just feeling poopy today is what it is

play07:56

like i don't need to look into it um

play07:59

because oftentimes us over analyzing

play08:01

ourselves and our feelings and emotions

play08:03

uh perpetuates the cycle of not feeling

play08:05

well rather than just getting on with

play08:07

your day and remembering that you can

play08:09

have a

play08:10

day where you don't feel well and you're

play08:12

probably actually still going to have

play08:13

some times where you do feel good um and

play08:15

then you'll have times that day where

play08:16

you feel even worse and eventually it

play08:18

will change it will pass and you'll have

play08:19

a good day um and you'll have a string

play08:21

of good days just like you have strings

play08:22

and bad days and they're normal

play08:24

and i think that

play08:26

if i can give you one thing it is that

play08:28

you have to stop searching for the

play08:30

silver bullet to feeling good and you

play08:32

just have to learn how to do things when

play08:34

you don't feel good and i think that

play08:36

oftentimes

play08:37

i know myself in the past and i'm sure

play08:39

many people now it's like you just think

play08:41

well there's no way that if they felt

play08:43

how i feel they would be able to get

play08:44

that much stuff done

play08:46

and i

play08:47

challenge you on that thought and i

play08:49

would actually say that they have just

play08:50

trained themselves to feel absolutely

play08:52

horrible and still get it done

play08:55

so if you like this video i will talk

play08:56

more on how to get things done when you

play08:58

are not feeling great um and my guess is

play09:01

that by the next video i make i will

play09:02

feel much better than this video um so i

play09:05

hope that this was enlightening and if

play09:06

so go ahead hit subscribe i will see you

play09:08

in the next one
