Legos uh hello too can you give us more
update at the event uh currently where
you are at the refinery
all right uh while we're waiting for
Tokar to give a more update uh we can
see pictures of the First Consignment of
uh
petrol uh been loaded onto trucks uh by
uh workers at the
refinery uh mind you this is the refined
product uh it's a historical
moment uh since the Inception of the
Dango
Refinery despite all the uh going on uh
regarding when this moment will come to
fruition and uh finally we're seeing
that is being done at the
moment so we can just about look at uh
workers uh loading
that uh
tanker uh which will now go to other
parts of the
country so it's been a
uh a long wait but uh finally we're
having uh
This Moment come to
fruition and of course there's been much
expectation regarding the dang
refineries uh capacity uh to refine
crude at the best
quality uh with so much potential uh
hinged on
its uh
existence and of course
uh uh despite initial issues regarding
the nnpc's uh role and of of course uh
the
marketers uh regarding the fuel scarcity
we had for some days
now uh this is a moment of hope that
will
ease the distribution of refined
products especially
petrol uh
to teaming motorists and of course uh
other consumers of
petrol and uh we have tokumbo to give us
more insight on this tokumbo it's good
to have you with us so um can you update
us on what we're seeing at the
moment yes um what is going on right now
is that we have the first set of um
trucks I mean tank has to be loaded um
uh petroleum tank has to be loaded from
the dangote refiner and petrochemicals
industry here at be Ley in Lagos it's a
historic day really I mean everything
that has been put into this investment
in the last 5 years or so is coming to
um a specific head today as we are going
to be having the first set of product
PMS coming out of uh this facility and I
can count about 10 trucks that have just
uh been driven into this loading uh bay
to be loaded what the officials are
trying to do to us now is to demonstrate
what the process will look like before
the first uh content the first drop of
content will be uh dropped into the
tankers there and they will not move
away from here for uh onward movement to
uh the nnpc depot where the uh product
will be we learn that about 300 uh
trucks we learn that about 300 trucks
will be loaded from here today but what
we are seeing now according to what
officials told us is just a
demonstration of what is going to happen
we're still
expecting uh an official delegation from
the federal government to come into this
facility today to actually officially
flag of the lifting or what what some
others refer to as evacuation of product
from this uh facility n that is what is
going on here for
now um you know it's been earlier said
that uh
nmpc will be the soul
ofer uh of the product that is uh nmpc
will be the
only uh you know uh receiver of this uh
product as it were so can you can you
give us more insight on that Anda you
know why uh are the marketers not being
involved in this uh uh
scenario it's um still a bit very dice
now about what what we know what we know
for certainty if anything if what we're
hearing from the federal government is
anything to go by of course you know
that just on Friday two days ago here
the federal government officially stated
that the nnp will be the only the soul
of taker from this facility for now and
from my interactions with some of the
officials on ground we are still
expecting the official delegation
actually but I've been interacting with
some of the officials on ground here the
reason for that or the main reason for
that is that the the federal government
is actually to try you know trying to
take proper charge of the industry
because according to them the PMS sector
has not been fully deregulated and it
needs a proper handling by the
supervising authorities I mean which is
the federal government and which the the
the nnp actually represents of course we
have um parties stakeholders in the
industry the independent marketers
Association of Nigeria they've all been
kicking you know against what the what
they describe as um uh uh uh emerging uh
uh domestic Monopoly by nnpc being the
only of taker from this facility but
what we are still hearing is that as
time goes on and as things take proper
shape other marketers who are interested
in this can actually uh come into and
and and begin to evacuate products from
here deal with uh uh the dang Refinery
uh directly uh uh uh without nnp PC
loone just just just been but for now
from what we have seen here all the
trucks that have been lining up here 300
of them according to statement from the
nnpc will Le uh you know have been
mobilized down here from different uh uh
even private uh uh uh sector
participants too that you know act to
act to mobilize their trucks because of
course nmpc alone cannot uh cannot
muster enough you know enough strength
to actually uh bring all those all those
trucks down here so all the trucks that
are here they all represent nnpc and
they are going to be evacuating this
product only for nnpc for now until
further
development happen but NE whatever uh
fears whatever questions that we have
we're going to be putting to some of the
officials who we expect to to arrive
here any moment from here maybe later in
the day but what I'm what what you can
hear now I mean I just had action from
the man who is directing Affairs here
meaning that the first uh uh uh uh
what's it called called now the first uh
drop of product is about to come out of
uh this this pipe that you're seeing
going into uh that that that tanker hole
there and it's it's it's very it's a
very significant moment for uh this
facility and the entire
country indeed very significant after
all the Hues and cries we've been
hearing uh you know we've had to uh
towards the buildup to this moment as it
were uh and uh of course we've had a few
words back and forth between the nmpc uh
the dang Refinery on matters of
authentication and of course uh uh
regarding the marketer's role and the
distribution of fuel as it were so um
this would be an initial 25 million
liters per day tokumbo but um also um
that's the figures of art yes yes and of
course uh you know petrol Diesel from
the refinery is also to be purchased in
naira so what are the immediate benefits
here you know perhaps the issue of uh
dollar uh scenarios uh will be greatly
reduced to a large extent and of course
uh but will it have much impact on uh
purchasing power of Nigerians regarding
pricing of Petrol in the do domestic
Market you think
I mean well it's it's uh a a it's a very
interesting question that that you've
asked there because of course you know
part of the issue of a very major issue
that has been affecting the the the the
economy has been the issue of Forex the
scarcity of Forex which has affected
many SE the entire economy really so
what the stakeholders have been saying
in excitement about what is this
development here today is that
dang because apart from what is going on
here we have been told by officials by
the federal government that by the 1st
of October the nnp will be supplying
crude to dangote
Refinery selling the product in naira to
them okay and they will now be giving
them the equivalent of the product
whether in PMS or diesel back to the
nnpc and the transaction will be
denominated in naira that means
something very very very very
significant near it means that the
energy the efforts the resources wasted
on sourcing foreign currency to actually
do this business on a normal day will
not be there anymore so it means somehow
the naira our our own local currency
will be strengthened it means the the
the uh all the the uh trouble that a
facility like this and even other
organizations go through to get the
effects to actually do the transaction
will not be there anymore and of course
that will mean some very very
improvements some that have an huge
impact on the economy and by extension
it it should I'm not an economist but I
know that it it should affect you and I
positively I mean affecting our pockets
positively indeed indeed to now I I know
you you where you are at the moment you
must have spoken to some of the workers
there you know regarding this uh
historic moment what are your what are
their thoughts about this as well how
are they feeling you know regarding be
pioneers of uh refining and of course uh
a private concern doing this you know
for the first
time I mean it's it's excitement all
over if if if um my cameraman was able
to P across to some of the uh workers
who have been standing all around here
by the time that first drop of uh uh a
product uh uh dropped into that tanker
hole the excitement all over was you
know the excitement was all over the
place I mean there was there was there
was a very huge Applause from majority
of the people around here most of them
who are workers at this facility of
course you know what it means for you
they've toyed day and night we've heard
from from from the uh uh the initiator
of this project Al Alik the president of
the dang group about how excited he is
of course you see him physically how how
he has gone gay in in in uh in the quest
to actually get this facility on ground
now to see that everything has come to
uh uh fru and we are having the first
product moving out of here today you can
only imagine the excitement yeah indeed
tobo and then the the issue of
sustainability as well you know also
comes to the it's a laudable initiative
but uh sustaining it is another you know
regarding the provision of crude you
know you got to have a constant
provision for that when you need to
refine so
um what are the makeup of the people
we're expecting uh to come and Grace uh
this occasion you think tokumbo
I mean we we we I I learned uh uh
officials from the N npcl are going to
be here uh majorly of course they are
they are the they are the uh uh
supervisory uh um agency here which
which is as as as well as a player in
the a major player in the industry that
has been a h uh Under Fire or under
scrutiny not not let me let me not say
fire under scrutiny from the entire
country you know I mean the the the few
of the officials that have spoken with
here I mean they're not as high level as
as to be able to actually explain things
to us on camera but my interactions with
them uh actually shows that they are
they are they are very excited and when
when we see I don't know I don't know
the the the make of the delegation I
don't know what what uh the the entire
delegation will look like but I know
like I like I've I've been able to
gather high high ranking officials from
the N npcl are going to lead other
officials to uh come in here and flag
off this evacuation of PMS from this
facility
the and uh you know when you look at the
scenario now not we're seen a uh
slightly easing of uh you know the uh
the issue of scarcity currently
pervading uh most of Nigeria at the
moment uh you can only
imagine uh the concentration on nmpc
Outlets you know there will be uh in
terms of um you know A reduced price
well based on their current pricing
which is perhaps uh still a little bit
cheaper than what the other marketers
are selling at the moment at I think
around 855 or or thereabout so we we're
likely perhaps to see now there's more
provision of PMS at these uh NPC outlets
on account of what we're looking at
right now um do you see more competition
here more choice for you know consumers
and motorist alike and uh would it be at
the detriment of other marketers as it
were because those are also been some of
the concerns raised uh you know
regarding the takeoff of uh this uh
loable initiative you
think well uh to be honest with you the
the the issue here still is still very
very like I like I referenced earlier
you know in this in this conversation
the most the most important thing here
is that nnpc is having more product in
his own facility to distribute more to
other
marketers it means Nigeria is having
more products and now locally refined
product to actually distribute to you
the car user to my sful drives on the on
the on the on the Street of Lagos to the
man who drives in Caba in karuda in
bukum or wherever you're driving from
okay the issue of Monopoly is still a
very very huge one that I told you
earlier the players in the industry
especially the the independent marketers
Association of Nigeria are actually
kicking you know about but officials
have said as time goes on probably when
this sector is fully
deregulated what is being regarded as
Monopoly may be addressed one very
critical issue that that we need to
actually uh look at as this is happening
here is that of logistics you see this
this this tankers here uh ni they're
moving out of this place to wherever
I've been I've been told that for now
the nnpc will be concentrating majorly
on Lagos supplying you know this product
from here on Lagos supplying them to
States like OU
oo o and you know other other Southern
States how much of logistics do we have
in place to actually make this very
smooth
except through through uh these tankers
through Road the rail system is not that
functioning at optimal level as to make
it as to make it an option the pipeline
or the pipelines are not equally I mean
the ones that are available I was I was
interacting with an NP nnpc official who
actually told me that uh uh from Atlas
Cove in Lagos here to actually send
product down to aigo which is about 50
or 60 kilm uh uh uh distance is a very
big issue so that is a very a very very
very uh uh huge point in the industry
that needs to be tackled because I was
told that if you send a certain amount
of product from that Atlas Cove down to
a you're you're not likely to get more
than 50% of what you have
sent so for now the the the the only
option that is that we are reduced to is
for these tankers to actually distribute
this products
across the state across the zone and
across Nigeria what is the stat of the
road
infrastructure so that is an issue that
those who are involved here we have to
actually we have to actually look uh
into and address very critically but for
now n let us all just enjoy the moments
that Dango there are issues there are I
mean there are critical questions to be
raised eventually when we we're able to
meet with the officials to they need to
explain things to us the ISS you know
the issue of price pricing the issue of
Monopoly that that that you have raised
and this issue of logistics distribution
of this prod we need to raise those
those issues with them but the
excitement here for now is
that PMS petrol or fuel or what however
you want to uh to to refer to it is been
T is been evacuated from this facility
the 20 billion facility dangote refiner
in beilei onto uh uh been been uptaken
by the nnpc for onward distribution to
the entire nation through uh uh other
marketers so that is where we are for
now the excitement is in the air and
everybody is uh expecting what what is
the
next to be done yes uh and indeed uh
tokumbo you're absolutely right on the
issue of logistics uh there has to be
some kind of mechanism to ensure that
those trucks uh being loaded are
actually you know gets in to where they
need them the most where they need to be
you know and uh it'll be more
interesting by the time this uh project
you know gets along over the days uh as
it were and uh more distributions are
being made but it has to be a seamless
you know transfer of products from the
refinery down to uh their intended
destinations without any hitches or
whatsoever you know in other climbs
there's a way you can actually track
these vehicles uh when they take these
products you know get them from where
they are getting them right now and down
to uh where they're supposed to be so I
don't think it's much of a rocket
science when it comes to tracking and
getting them you know uh aligned to uh
to their intended destinations and
another thing tokumbo um I think the
Dango Refinery is also uh exporting some
of the refined uh products like like
diesel uh you know and I think aviation
fuel or thereabout so in a way it's a
win-win for uh the the company uh
catering for the local market and of
course the
international uh uh Market as
well I like your thoughts on
that I mean sure you it's it's it's a
very huge point there are issues there
are issues just like with any other
good thing that has been done anywhere
else in the world there will always be
issues what can you learn from the
issues I mean started which is what we
now have it's been started product is
about now being evacuated from
here what is going to be the next step I
said it just moment ago to you that
after after now what is next
sustainability how do we sustain this
how do we improve on what we have
already and how do we make it if if
there is any any short shortage or any
shortfall that we see anywhere how do we
there's any Gap how do we breach that
Gap so that it do it doesn't just look
like we have we have a a Nigerian
standard there is an international
standard and are we living up to that
that is I what I think everybody
involved here including the dangote
refiner the nnp the federal government
itself I mean the father of all all
everybody and even other other
stakeholders including the independent
Market looking at I'm so sorry to
interject but can you get a few uh
comments from some of the officials were
looking at uh they look like the
officials from exactly what what what
what what yeah hopefully try we're
trying to uh get the the MD of uh this
this facility to actually talk to us on
on his excitement and and uh uh uh some
of the issues as these operations here
begin today so we still trying to put
one or two things together we we do that
as soon as it's a uh it's convenient for
us to actually get him to to talk to us
uh near yeah and we were talking about
the win-win situation having flexibility
in terms of the local market and the
international market and it's been even
touted as a game changer for Nigeria not
only on the country but uh uh the on the
continent as well that it's one of the
biggest uh in terms of uh its uh entry
and the projections regarding the
potential for this Refinery you know has
been um you know it's creating a little
bit of Buzz uh when it comes to the uh
