play00:01

we have a lot of cool benchmarks today

play00:03

we're adding GPU power efficiency

play00:05

testing so FPS per watt like we did for

play00:07

CPUs except for gpus it's the debut of

play00:11

this testing it's not anywhere near

play00:13

final we have a ton more we can do with

play00:14

it but we're excited to share that with

play00:16

you in our 4070 TI super review which is

play00:19

what this is we also added cyberpunk RT

play00:22

back in so we have some R tracing

play00:23

benchmarks with cyberp Punk 2077 we're

play00:26

planning to add non RT cyberp punk in

play00:27

the future as well and we're looking

play00:29

into Alan W too for our next iterative

play00:32

Edition because we're basically doing

play00:33

kind of one step at a time let's add

play00:35

some new types of tests to refresh the

play00:36

GP reviews because that's what the

play00:39

manufacturers are doing anyway they're

play00:40

refreshing it with the Super Series and

play00:42

amd's got the 7600 XT coming out

play00:48

tomorrow I don't think I get to go home

play00:50

tonight or tomorrow night but we'll get

play00:54

them done let's start with the 4070 TI

play00:56

super review so I don't have to face

play00:58

reality which is is that I'm staying

play01:00

here for a few days this video is

play01:03

brought to you by us and storu Gamers

play01:22

play01:24

play01:34

running low fast and we won't be making

play01:37

another run of these your purchases of

play01:39

shirts like our charcoal Heather

play01:40

disappointment shirt help directly fund

play01:42

our new testing Innovations like GPU FPS

play01:45

per wat power efficiency and our

play01:47

recently introduced 3D laser scanner for

play01:49

testing coolers so head over to store.

play01:52

Gamers access.net to grab a shirt today

play01:54

all right the overview so there's a 4070

play01:56

super we already reviewed that it's on

play01:58

the channel that's $600 it slots in

play02:00

alongside the 470 which has dropped

play02:02

about 50 bucks or so plus or minus a

play02:04

little bit when this goes up uh then

play02:06

there's the 470 TI super which is this

play02:09

one and just as a reminder there's also

play02:12

a 4070 TI and there's a

play02:15

470 and then there's the 470 super we

play02:18

just talked about so we're up to four

play02:21

4070 cards getting a little confusing

play02:23

andv video is helping out by

play02:26

eliminating one of them to think about

play02:28

the doesn't actually help that much

play02:30

there's still a lot of 407s and then

play02:32

there's the 4080 super that is the one

play02:34

that people in our comments appeared to

play02:36

be the most excited about or at least

play02:38

discussing the most when it was all

play02:40

announced in nvidia's news coverage

play02:42

that's because it comes down to $11,000

play02:44

from 1,200 for Baseline uh and that

play02:47

should be in theory a pretty significant

play02:49

shift for Value we'll see how it plays

play02:51

out but it looks a little bit like

play02:53

Nvidia has maybe couched the less

play02:55

interesting of these cards between the

play02:57

two that are potentially more appealing

play02:59

for value so the 4070 TI super comes in

play03:01

with a solid meh right in between the

play03:04

two potentially more appealing cards but

play03:08

uh there's a lot to talk about today so

play03:09

a couple of things interesting findings

play03:11

4K skews higher for the performance

play03:15

difference between the ti super and the

play03:18

nons super TI which is because of the

play03:20

memory subsystem change so the 4070 TI

play03:23

super we already talked about the specs

play03:24

in the specs video but it's increased

play03:27

the memory capacity and in step with

play03:30

that there's also a memory bandwidth

play03:33

change memory bus width increase so this

play03:35

is the entire memory sub system has been

play03:38

overhauled on the ti super uh and that's

play03:41

going to reflect more in those higher

play03:43

memory load scenarios like 4K okay Power

play03:46

efficiencies first we're not really

play03:47

going to spend a ton of time setting

play03:49

this one up so for power efficiency

play03:50

testing this is something we already

play03:52

debuted with our CPU bench marks the

play03:54

video was called Intel problem or

play03:56

something CP power efficiency and that

play03:58

looked at primar IL FPS per watt or some

play04:02

other metric so like mips per watt for

play04:03

example interestingly FPS per watt could

play04:06

be simplified into effectively frames

play04:09

per Jewel cancel the per second cancels

play04:12

out for both uh and that's what we're

play04:14

going be looking at now for sake of

play04:17

using phrases that people are familiar

play04:19

with and metrics people know watts and

play04:21

FPS we're going to stick with FPS per

play04:23

watt but that's kind of the idea the

play04:25

purpose of FPS per watt testing or

play04:27

efficiency testing is very simple

play04:30

typically we'll test a full load power

play04:32

virus scenario for gpus just like we

play04:34

test a full load scenario with blender

play04:36

for CPUs what that misses and what we've

play04:39

been pretty open about it missing over

play04:41

the years is gaming workloads which are

play04:44

not anywhere near that simple it is

play04:46

never simple with gaming the reasons

play04:48

it's different are many we explain them

play04:50

in that CPU piece but as a couple

play04:53

examples uh where the bottleneck is can

play04:55

change the efficiency so Shifting the

play04:58

load more to the CPU to where the GPU

play05:00

can't even fully stretch its legs that

play05:03

doesn't necessarily increase the

play05:04

efficiency and in fact can instead hurt

play05:06

it we saw this with the CPU test too

play05:09

where even when we were GPU bound the

play05:12

CPU was still having to to burn at

play05:16

fairly High wattage just to keep the GPU

play05:18

supplied with frames to render now FPS

play05:21

per watt with gpus produces mostly sub

play05:24

1.0 numbers and that's just because the

play05:28

power consumption is higher than

play05:30

typically the frame rate is in terms of

play05:32

pure numerical value for what we're

play05:34

looking at today uh it doesn't

play05:36

particularly mean or affect anything

play05:39

it's just that you might ask well why

play05:40

not watts per FPS as an example then you

play05:42

get a nice positive number maybe it's

play05:44

10.5 or something as opposed to

play05:47

0.47 and the only real answer we have

play05:50

for that is just consistency we're just

play05:51

going with FPS per watt because we

play05:53

already used it for the CPU one people

play05:54

seem familiar with it they seem to like

play05:55

it and the response from you all was

play05:58

positive uh however if everyone would

play06:00

prefer to see watts per FPS we could do

play06:01

that too it's kind of all the same it

play06:03

doesn't really matter at the end of the

play06:04

day but also FPS per wat allows us to go

play06:06

for a bigger number better and as we all

play06:08

know thanks to Intel bigger number

play06:11

better means better number gets more

play06:13

bigger better so that's better because

play06:16

it's bigger let's get started Starfield

play06:18

at 4K starts us off for efficiency in

play06:20

this one the most efficient card in the

play06:21

test was the RTX 480 at 0.27 FPS per

play06:25

watt or if you want to look at it

play06:27

another way about 3.7 Watts per FPS or

play06:30

in another way still 0.27 frames per

play06:33

jeel there are a lot of options here the

play06:34

4070 TI super is about equal with the

play06:37

original 470 TI the latter of which

play06:39

technically has a 2.1% Improvement in

play06:41

efficiency here compared to the 7900 XT

play06:44

the 4070 TI super is about 4% more

play06:46

efficient in fps per watt at 1440p the

play06:49

490 slips down the ranks a bit more as

play06:51

it approaches a CPU bind this reveals

play06:54

interesting data that shows that

play06:56

although the CPU may start limiting

play06:58

performance that doesn't necessarily

play07:00

make the GPU more efficient it's similar

play07:02

to the IOD Baseline power requirement

play07:04

buffer that we saw for AMD CPUs in the

play07:07

past efficiency test anyway the 4070 TI

play07:09

super again allows the 4070 TI El lead

play07:11

in efficiency This Time by about 4.1%

play07:15

the 4070 TI super lead over the 7800 XT

play07:17

is relatively large 15% here showing

play07:19

that AMD is trading power for

play07:21

performance at 1080p the 480 Remains the

play07:23

most efficient while the 490 continues

play07:25

to slip down the ranks its Baseline

play07:27

power requirement to maintain operation

play07:29

with its default settings as in the card

play07:32

settings is reducing its efficiency as

play07:34

it gets increasingly Tangled Up by other

play07:36

components this is really interesting

play07:38

data and it implies that the entire

play07:39

system will in fact be less efficient as

play07:43

CPU load increases as we saw in our

play07:45

previous CPU efficiency test or at least

play07:47

in the scenarios we've benchmarked so

play07:49

far the 4070 TI super produced 0.57 FPS

play07:53

per watt here that has the 4070 TI

play07:55

original card 4.4% more efficient or the

play07:58

4070 TI super as 25% more efficient than

play08:01

the 7800 XT the 7800 XT is also becoming

play08:05

limited causing a further Gulf so let's

play08:07

unbind it in Resident Evil 4 at 4K

play08:10

without RT we found the 4070 TI to be

play08:12

the least efficient card with the 4070

play08:14

TI super improving by 6% it could be the

play08:17

case that the uplift in this title comes

play08:19

from the memory subsystem change as

play08:21

opposed to frequency the 7800 XT is

play08:23

significantly more efficient here due to

play08:25

overall higher performance than

play08:26

previously allowing it to roughly tie

play08:28

the R TX 480 the 7800 XT sits between

play08:32

the ti super and the original TI at

play08:34

1440p the 470 TI super still leads the

play08:36

470 TI Now by about 2.7% so it's reduced

play08:40

with the 7800 XT still relatively high

play08:42

up on the chart the 470 super ends up

play08:45

striking the strongest balance overall

play08:47

on this one at 1080p the 480 and the

play08:49

7900 XT still have some scaling Headroom

play08:52

for frame rate the90s overall

play08:54

comparative efficiency has fallen but it

play08:56

still pulls 357 watts and it remains

play08:59

It's relatively heavily loaded despite

play09:00

being limited on total CPU scale the

play09:03

4070 TI super is roughly tied with the

play09:05

4070 TI at this resolution so it's lead

play09:07

shrank with each resolution decrease the

play09:10

7800 XT allows the 47 TI super a lead of

play09:13

1.4% so they're about tied and the 470

play09:16

super strikes the best balance so far

play09:18

once again in Rainbow Six Siege at 4K

play09:20

the RTX 480 Remains the most efficient

play09:22

of the group followed by the 470 super

play09:24

which is now establishing a trend and

play09:26

then the 490 the 490 is slightly lower

play09:29

on the efficiency curve for volt

play09:30

frequency tuning to maximize performance

play09:33

the 4070 TI super leads the 4070 TI by

play09:36

8.3% in this title a result of the

play09:39

average FPS increase being higher than

play09:41

we've seen in some other games where

play09:43

that 8.3% lead is for efficiency the 700

play09:47

XT ends up between the two TI class

play09:49

cards now we're going to quickly look at

play09:51

some 10p and 30p point non-c consecutive

play09:53

highs from the entire test run including

play09:55

loading screens in this chart we're

play09:57

looking at just Watts the 490 pulled 52

play09:59

Watts for its average on the highest 10

play10:01

points of data with 498 Watts for the

play10:05

highest 30 points averaged this won't

play10:07

capture the smallest transin which will

play10:09

Spike higher still but that's something

play10:11

we looked at in the past the 700 XT

play10:13

pulled 385 Watts as it's 10o high with

play10:15

the 470 TI super at 330 watts to the

play10:18

TI's 321 watts and Starfield at 1440p

play10:21

that drops to 382 Watts on the 700 XT

play10:25

372 on the 490 which is becoming CPU

play10:27

constrained and 26 6 6 on the 4070 TI

play10:30

super the 480 shows why it was so power

play10:33

efficient here so that's the foundation

play10:35

of efficiency testing I am really

play10:37

excited to see where this goes we put

play10:39

this together just in the last week so

play10:41

uh again there's a lot that can be

play10:43

changed there's a lot we can improve

play10:44

we're aware of it this is nowhere near

play10:46

sort of like the perfect end game of how

play10:48

we want to represent this but it's an

play10:50

initial representation gives you some

play10:52

ideas to play around with Post in the

play10:54

comments and we'll keep tweaking it as

play10:55

well and post a separate Standalone

play10:57

piece as we continue to figure it out

play10:59

but um we did this just in the last week

play11:02

alongside adding cyberpunk rage tracing

play11:04

and starting to explore Allen wake 2

play11:06

testing so there's a lot going on for

play11:07

our GPU reviews but of all of that we

play11:10

think the GPU efficiency stuff is going

play11:12

to be the most interesting and promising

play11:15

anyway we'll start with some game

play11:16

Benchmark summary charts and then we'll

play11:17

get into the individual game benchmarks

play11:19

here's a summary chart of the 4070 TI

play11:21

super versus the 4070 TI nons super non

play11:25

non-ti the bars indicate percent

play11:27

Improvement by moving two the 4070 TI

play11:30

super from the 4070 TI in general we're

play11:34

seeing about a 10 to 11% uplift at 4K

play11:37

our testing tends to be at highly

play11:38

intensive settings to minimize CPU load

play11:41

so especially when at 4K this makes

play11:43

sense with the memory subsystem and

play11:45

frame BFF for improvement two of the

play11:46

older games here Horizon zero Dawn and

play11:48

Total War Warhammer 3 posted gains

play11:51

higher than we saw in other titles on

play11:53

this chart at 1440p we saw about a 7%

play11:56

average or so uplift in the 470 TI super

play11:59

versus the 470 TI that's not

play12:01

particularly exciting it reduces from

play12:04

the 4K gains because the memory just

play12:06

isn't as impactful at 1080p we typically

play12:09

saw from 2% to 6% gains with a few

play12:12

breakouts higher generally speaking it's

play12:15

call it about 5% or so uplift at 1080p

play12:18

now we have two identical 4070 TI Super

play12:21

Cards the tough models and so we also

play12:23

decided to run these through Port Royal

play12:25

for frequency validation the brief test

play12:27

established an average frequency 2746

play12:30

MHz for the unit we tested for our

play12:32

review with the more recently tested

play12:34

unit that wasn't used in the review

play12:35

today at 2725 MHz this is about a 20 MHz

play12:40

or so Delta it's within manufacturing

play12:42

variants but the Silicon quality on the

play12:44

unit we chose at random appears to be a

play12:46

little higher than the secondary model

play12:48

and obviously the one that ran 20 MHz

play12:51

higher smelled freshly of leather

play12:53

jackets handpicked definitely a golden

play12:57

sample that was SAR

play12:59

ASM but someone was typing it it'll SN

play13:02

it a little bit though but let's move on

play13:04

to the 7900 XT versus the 4070 TI we

play13:08

broke this into RT and non-rt charts

play13:11

because the scale slides opposing

play13:12

directions and we'd prefer to do as much

play13:14

of that math in a single direction or

play13:16

percent Improvement as possible that

play13:18

just keeps it cleaner now that said when

play13:19

you're talking about a percentage Point

play13:21

change of

play13:22

0.5 between going positive or negative

play13:25

Direction the impact isn't that big

play13:26

regardless but we are trying to keep it

play13:28

all showing as much as possible in

play13:30

percent Improvement regardless the RT

play13:32

performance strongly benefits the 4070

play13:33

TI super we noticed that cyberpunk

play13:36

scales insanely in favor of Nvidia as

play13:39

all graphic settings increase with

play13:41

customized ultra settings without

play13:43

upscaling pushing the ti super in the

play13:46

range of 70 plus% for its lead over the

play13:48

7900 XT with cyberpunk using medium

play13:51

settings instead but still RT we saw the

play13:54

gains have down to something like 35%

play13:57

for the 4070 TI super over the 700 XD as

play14:00

a workload for RT amplifies the favor

play14:03

for NVIDIA likewise seems to

play14:04

disproportionately amplify in less

play14:07

intensive RT scenarios the lead is often

play14:09

below 20% there's one 4K upscaled result

play14:12

favoring the 7900 XT in Resident Evil 4

play14:14

which progressively moves toward Nvidia

play14:16

favor as the resolution decreases in

play14:19

non-rt workload switching the chart to

play14:21

show to the 7900 XT from the 4070 TI

play14:25

super we see that 7900 XT starts pulling

play14:28

ahead on average depending on resolution

play14:30

it's anywhere from equal to 14% ahead

play14:33

with losses toward the bottom of the

play14:34

chart time to move into specific game

play14:36

Benchmark charts we have a lot of cards

play14:38

on here so depending on which chart you

play14:40

look at goes back to the 2070 uh there's

play14:44

1080ti in there 3060 variants are in

play14:47

there uh 6600 variants are in there it

play14:49

depends on the resolution but there's a

play14:51

lot to look at so feel free to pause for

play14:53

the specific card you might have and if

play14:54

your specific card is not there remember

play14:56

you can go and grab a a reference to a

play14:59

card that is on our charts with a known

play15:01

percent difference from that card and

play15:03

you can start kind of calculating it

play15:05

roughly on your own it's not perfect but

play15:07

I'll get you pretty close to it okay

play15:08

let's get into those charts Starfield is

play15:10

up next another of our 2023 titles with

play15:13

2024 patches to test at 4K the RTX 470

play15:17

TI super landed at 62 FPS average with

play15:20

lows proportional and well timed that

play15:22

has it ahead of the 4070 TI by

play15:24

relatively uneventful 6.3% the lead over

play15:27

the 4070 super is 18% and compared to

play15:30

some cards you might upgrade from it's

play15:32

ordered as follows 79% over the 3070 and

play15:36

161% over the 2070 the RX 7900 XT leads

play15:40

the 470 TI super by 10% here so AMD is

play15:43

still leveraging its advantage in this

play15:45

particular game and has a wider lead

play15:47

than it does in some others and just for

play15:49

reference the 490 leads the 4070 TI

play15:52

super by 47% here at 92 FPS average if

play15:55

you were curious what that jump would do

play15:57

at 1440p the 4070 TI super still has

play16:00

full scaling in this Benchmark its lead

play16:02

over the nons super variant 95 FPS

play16:04

average is just 4.4% now down from the

play16:07

already low 6% at 4K and the ti super

play16:11

now only leads the 470 super by 14.7% so

play16:15

it's even less exciting than before

play16:17

let's move on Resident Evil 4 is another

play16:18

2023 game that we've added recently and

play16:21

this one tested at 4K and rasterized

play16:23

first the 4070 TI super ran at 87 FPS

play16:26

average and led the 4070 TI by 10. 6%

play16:29

with the 7800 XT leading the ti super by

play16:32

12% 480 is just ahead of that looking

play16:35

down the stack the 6800 XT remains one

play16:37

of the most powerful and viable options

play16:39

at the $500 Mark that's assuming it's

play16:42

still there when this goes up although

play16:43

it's not the most viable in every game

play16:45

on the Nvidia side the ti super leads

play16:47

the new RTX 470 Sans TI super at 71 FPS

play16:52

for that 4070 super by 23% over possible

play16:56

upgrade Pathways the lead over the 3070

play16:58

the 20 70 non super and the 2080 is

play17:00

significant respectively at 86% 190% on

play17:04

the 2070 and 139% on the 2080 scaling is

play17:08

clean at 1440p lows are proportional so

play17:10

since the 0.1% lows don't indicate

play17:12

anything noteworthy here we've removed

play17:14

them to instead accommodate more gpus on

play17:16

this chart that's the trade-off the 470

play17:18

TI super is 172 FPS average as at 7.8%

play17:21

ahead of the 4070 TI reduced from the

play17:23

10.6% result at 4K scaling Titans as

play17:27

resolution fall for these two the 4070

play17:29

TI super is still bed by the 7800 XT

play17:32

here this time by 6.8% this chart added

play17:35

a bunch of mid-range cards from ages

play17:37

past so for some potential Pathways

play17:40

there's the RX 6600 shown at 58 FPS

play17:43

average the 6600 XT at 70 and the 360 at

play17:47

57 FPS average with the 360 TI at 78

play17:51

respectively these would SE Improvement

play17:52

of 200% on the 6600 147% on the 66 XT

play17:57

and then 2011% and 121% for the 2360

play18:00

class cards at 1080p the 4070 TI super

play18:03

is still scaling with the CPU it's at

play18:05

253 FPS average leading the 470 TI by

play18:08

5.1% predictably less than at 1440p and

play18:12

4K the 7800 xt's lead also reduces here

play18:16

down to 3.4% d light 2 is a 2022 game

play18:19

that's up now tested at 4K first the

play18:21

4070 TI super leads the 470 TI by 12.6%

play18:25

better than we saw in the last game the

play18:27

700 XT is about equal with the 4070 TI

play18:29

super and can't be told apart at a

play18:32

functional level owners of the 2070 nons

play18:35

super would see massive gains under

play18:37

these test conditions at about

play18:39

178% a lot of that is from the Intensive

play18:42

4K load that the 2070 is struggling with

play18:44

the 2080 would likewise get multiples of

play18:47

uplift alternatives to the 4070 TI super

play18:49

might include the 7800 XT at equivalent

play18:51

performance or the 470 super at reduced

play18:54

performance but it still achieves 83% of

play18:57

the performance of the ti super the 6800

play18:59

XT would be another option here and is

play19:02

one that has aged relatively well with

play19:03

its price drops up next 1440p 0.1% lows

play19:07

scaled perfectly fine with this there

play19:08

were no abnormalities so we removed them

play19:10

to permit space for more cards on the

play19:12

chart this includes fresh retest of the

play19:15

6600 the 6600 XT and the 6700 XT in this

play19:19

test the 470 TI suers lead over the 470

play19:22

TI is reduced to 8.4% with gains against

play19:25

the 6600 XT and 6600 at 152% and 197%

play19:30

respectively mentioned just in case

play19:32

that's something you're considering

play19:34

upgrading from Alternatives still

play19:35

include the 700 XT ahead by 3.1% and the

play19:38

480 more meaningfully ahead but we would

play19:41

strongly advise against a 480 given the

play19:44

480 sup is inbound status in basically a

play19:47

week and lower price and the 470 super

play19:50

is another alternative at 85% of the

play19:53

performance of the 4070 TI super at

play19:56

1080p the 4070 TI supers lead over the

play19:58

the 4070 TI is now even lower at 5.8%

play20:02

the 700 XT is tied so its lead has also

play20:05

Fallen scaling is clean from a testing

play20:08

standpoint just that this isn't

play20:09

particularly interesting so let's move

play20:11

forward now we're moving on to our set

play20:13

of benchmarks that we keep around for

play20:14

reliability and long-term validation

play20:16

because the numbers rarely change for

play20:18

these so it's easier to keep a huge

play20:19

amount of cards on the charts in Tomb

play20:21

Raider at 4K the 4070 TI super tough

play20:23

leads the 4070 TI by 12% in this regard

play20:26

it's roughly Tied by the 7 00 XT for

play20:29

upgrade references the lead over the

play20:30

2070 XC is 167% it's the same over the

play20:35

6600 XT and the RTX 3060 XC at 1440p the

play20:40

4070 TI super led the 470 TI by 85%

play20:43

posting full scaling with the lead over

play20:45

the new 4070 super at about

play20:48

16.5% compared to older generation cards

play20:50

you might upgrade from options include a

play20:53

doubling over the RTX 360 TI and RTX

play20:56

2080 a 171 1% boost over the 6600 non XT

play21:00

at 82 FPS and similar over the original

play21:03

RTX 360 in f-122 at 4K the RTX 470 TI

play21:08

super ran at 137 FPS average leading the

play21:10

470 TI by 11% that has the 7800 XT ahead

play21:14

of the 4070 TI super by

play21:16

8.7% and the 480 is just past that

play21:19

compared to upgrade options the lead of

play21:22

the 4070 TI super over the 2070 XC is

play21:26

163% against the 52 FPS average result

play21:30

it's about the same Boost from the 6600

play21:33

XD and 360 XC Alternatives might include

play21:36

the 4070 super which achieves 82% of the

play21:39

performance of the ti super for 75% of

play21:42

the price or the 6800 XT which achieves

play21:45

84% of the performance for 63% of the

play21:48

cost in this game although that changes

play21:50

with rt at 1440p the 4070 TI super post

play21:54

full scaling at 228 FPS average leading

play21:56

the 470 TI by 6. . 3% reduction against

play22:00

4K despite Unbound scaling the 7800 XT

play22:03

is closer to the 480 than the ti super

play22:06

meanwhile the 470 super gives the ti

play22:08

super a 15% lead bringing upgrades back

play22:11

into the picture the 1080 TI would gain

play22:14

more than double the frame rate although

play22:16

the 108ti is still plenty good for a lot

play22:18

of rasterized games RX 6600 users would

play22:22

jump 167% from 86 FPS average we're

play22:25

still not CPU bound at 1080p for the 407

play22:28

TI super the ti super leads the ti by

play22:30

5.8% now down again and the 470 super by

play22:34

12% the 700xt has climbed the ranks a

play22:37

little and established a 14% lead over

play22:39

the 4070 TI super revisiting those

play22:42

upgrade options the 2070 was down at

play22:45

around 120 FPS average so there'd be a

play22:47

huge boost here with the 3060 at 126 FPS

play22:50

average the 1080t at 142 and the 6600 XT

play22:54

at 152 FPS average in any of those scen

play22:57

scenarios the ti super would be a big

play22:59

jump with rt jumping even more whether

play23:02

or not that's worth it really depends on

play23:04

the games you play and if you notice

play23:06

that your card is feeling slow if you're

play23:08

not playing heavier newer games it's

play23:10

obviously less likely to be critical

play23:12

Rainbow Six Siege is up now we ran

play23:14

efficiency tests for this earlier but

play23:15

remember the FPS numbers aren't taken

play23:17

from this chart they were tested

play23:18

separately with the background tasks the

play23:20

4070 TI sup 184 FPS average had it 10%

play23:24

ahead of the 4070 TI and 21% ahead of

play23:27

the 407 super the AMD 7900 XT puts up a

play23:31

strong fight here technically anyway but

play23:34

it's not particularly noticeable it does

play23:36

however outpace the 470 TI super price

play23:38

is what'll matter there compared to the

play23:40

2070 super at 84 FPS average we're seing

play23:42

a 120% Improvement in the ti super the

play23:45

3060 isn't distant from that math down

play23:47

at 71 FPS average 1440p reduces the ti

play23:50

Super's lead to just 3 and a half% over

play23:52

the 4070 TI an unexciting move the 7900

play23:55

XTX and 490 indicate that we still have

play23:58

plenty of CPU Headroom so this is an

play24:01

unfortunately real and boring change

play24:04

from the 4070 TI there's no point

play24:06

spending more time here it doesn't

play24:08

meaningfully move the needle from the

play24:10

4070 TI it's boring and it certainly

play24:13

arrests the price of the card at the

play24:16

$800 Mark Final Fantasy 14 is up now

play24:20

first at 4K the 470 TI super ran at 129

play24:23

FPS average here establishing a 15 FPS

play24:26

lead over the 4070 TI or about 12.5% the

play24:30

7800 XT sits close to the ti super but

play24:33

behind it and AMD has worst .1% lows in

play24:36

this game then would be proportional to

play24:37

the average against the 470 super the ti

play24:40

super is 23% better and against the

play24:42

Baseline 2070 it's 178% improved we

play24:46

haven't retested it in a while but the

play24:48

RTX 2060 is on this chart as a point of

play24:51

reference its frame rate may have moved

play24:53

slightly in the past year generally

play24:55

speaking though we don't see meaningful

play24:57

gaps to developed with this game at this

play24:58

point which is why it's here finally for

play25:00

the Old Reliable benchmarks GTA 5 at 4K

play25:04

has the 4070 TI super at 140 FPS average

play25:06

leading the 4070 TI by 11.6% and the 470

play25:10

super by 19% if you bought an RTX 26d

play25:14

when it launched an upgrade here would

play25:15

yield a 185% uplift the 7900 XT is just

play25:19

behind the ti super here as well we'll

play25:21

open our rate tracing testing with

play25:23

cyberpunk Phantom Liberty which was only

play25:25

just added to the test suite and

play25:26

therefore has fewer cars than the RT

play25:28

test we'll look at after it we're

play25:30

iterating and adding to this each review

play25:32

and we'll keep adding new types of tests

play25:34

too as we continue to do more reviews

play25:36

all of these tests were conducted in the

play25:38

last two days and were done across two

play25:40

groups of settings the first batch uses

play25:42

RT Ultra with upscaling disabled Ray

play25:44

reconstruction disabled and overdrive

play25:46

off the second batch uses a much lighter

play25:49

RT medium which we found to have lower

play25:52

scaling impact overall and more

play25:55

favorable but still weak AMD performance

play25:57

and these performance deficit widens as

play26:00

RT load increases and again upscaling is

play26:02

off for both of these here's the chart

play26:04

at 4K first the 4070 TI super ran at

play26:06

about 23 FPS average this average is low

play26:09

but the lows are spaced proportionally

play26:11

and well as compared to the average

play26:13

despite being unplayable this is a good

play26:15

academic study of bandwidth and why we

play26:17

included this test the 4070 TI ran at

play26:20

20.6 FPS average allowing the ti super a

play26:23

lead of 133% that breaks rank from some

play26:25

of the others we've seen critically the

play26:27

original TI has significantly worse lows

play26:29

here you wouldn't use these settings for

play26:31

either card but it does show that the

play26:33

memory bandwidth and capacity change

play26:36

influenced the performance in some key

play26:37

areas the closest AMD card here is the

play26:40

7800 XTX which underperformed against

play26:43

the 4070 super but held stronger lows at

play26:46

1440p Ultra the 4070 TI Super's lead

play26:48

over the 4070 TI drops to 8% the cards

play26:52

diverge as load increases as a result of

play26:53

the memory subsystem changes so it does

play26:55

in fact do something but the impact

play26:57

becomes largely academic since we were

play27:00

in unplayable territory at 4K Ultra the

play27:02

7800 XTX runs below the 4070 super here

play27:05

the 490 posts a massive lead of 58% over

play27:08

the 470 TI super just to set the ceiling

play27:11

at 1080p Ultra the 470 TI Super's lead

play27:13

was reduced to 6% the memory subsystem

play27:15

overhaul doesn't matter much here it's

play27:17

not as heavily loaded as at 4K the 480

play27:19

leads by 15% here with the 7800 XTX

play27:22

still tied with the 470 look at RT

play27:24

medium briefly here the 4070 TI super

play27:27

lead the ti by 12% at 57.7 to 51.6 the

play27:31

7800 XTX is much more competitive here

play27:33

than it was at Ultra now surpassing the

play27:36

470 super and roughly tying with the 470

play27:40

TI it's still not competitive on the

play27:42

whole in this test but this illustrates

play27:44

that heavier RT loads disproportionately

play27:46

separate AMD and Nvidia favoring Nvidia

play27:49

as RT workload goes higher finally at

play27:51

1080p medium the 4070 TI super leads the

play27:53

4070 TI by 7% the lowest of this game in

play27:57

settings so far the 7800 XTX is about

play27:59

equal with the 470 super here with the

play28:01

XT about equal to the 470 and's relative

play28:04

rank overall has fallen at this

play28:06

resolution it's benefited by the higher

play28:08

resolution combination with lower rate

play28:10

tracing settings in Resident Evil 4 with

play28:13

rate tracing and at 4K we're using FSR

play28:15

as a test of both upscaling and RT

play28:18

impact we measured the 4070 TI Supra at

play28:20

101 FPS average here leading the 4070 TI

play28:23

by 11% the 700xt manages to outperform

play28:26

the 470 super in this one although that

play28:29

doesn't persist to heavier RT games like

play28:32

cyberpunk as we saw earlier compared to

play28:34

the 4070 super the ti super is about 22%

play28:37

better and compared to the older 2070

play28:39

back when RTX was new it's about 150%

play28:42

better at 1440p the 4070 TI super runs

play28:45

at 165 FPS average with upscaling and RT

play28:49

that has it just ahead of the 7800 XT

play28:51

and 7.7% ahead of the 4070 TI finally

play28:54

for Resident Evil RT 1080p has the 47 TI

play28:57

super at 2011 FPS average with FSR

play29:00

reducing the lead over the ti original

play29:02

to 5.7% the 7900 XT sits closer at this

play29:06

point to the original 4070 TI than the

play29:09

4070 TI super but overall it's between

play29:11

them in dlight 2 with r tracing and

play29:14

equivalent upscaling between all the

play29:15

vendors we saw the 4070 TI super at 51.8

play29:18

FPS average leading the 4070 TI by just

play29:21

9% the 700 XT Trails the 4070 super here

play29:25

down at 38 FPS a average and just ahead

play29:28

of the 4070 Baseline card so the XT is

play29:31

not in a great spot competitively Nvidia

play29:34

is advantaged it's not as Extreme as in

play29:36

cyberp Punk or Allen wake 2 but it's

play29:40

definitely more than in Resident Evil 4

play29:42

generationally the 470 TI super leads

play29:44

the 370 by 86% and the RTX 2080 by 182%

play29:50

at 1440p we've added some mid-range past

play29:52

gen cards to the list the RTX 2070 now

play29:55

appears down at 30 FPS PS average ahead

play29:58

of the 6600 xt's 27 FPS average result

play30:02

and behind the 3060 TI's 46 result the

play30:05

4070 TI super is 96 FPS average leads

play30:07

the 4070 TI by about 7% so it's dropping

play30:11

once again the 700xt is behind the 380

play30:14

and the 4070 super in this one and ahead

play30:16

of the 4070 it's not competing with the

play30:18

ti class cards directly at 1080p the

play30:20

4070 TI super lead over the 4070 TI is

play30:23

reduced to just 4.4% the 7800 XT is

play30:27

about 5 to 6% ahead of the 470 and it

play30:30

continues to yield an advantage to

play30:32

Nvidia not much has changed for these

play30:34

ranks finally we're on power although we

play30:36

looked at Power efficiency earlier now

play30:38

we'll briefly look at our standardized

play30:39

total power consumption against more

play30:41

cards the 4070 TI super tough card

play30:43

pulled 291 Watts with the Quiet bios or

play30:46

296 Watts with the default performance

play30:49

feed bios that are shipped in

play30:50

overclocking allows a maximum power

play30:52

consumption of 321 Watts with the OC on

play30:56

the performance bios the 296 watt figure

play30:59

has it about the same as a 6800 XT and

play31:02

less than an RX 7900 XT by 10 to 25

play31:05

watts depending on which card you look

play31:07

at the 4070 TI was about 5 Watts less at

play31:10

290 watts in our original testing and

play31:12

that contributes to some of the

play31:13

performance Gap as well well it's a lot

play31:16

of numbers first on our side of things

play31:19

we're excited not because of this this

play31:21

is like we'll talk about it we're

play31:24

excited because the efficiency testing

play31:25

the latency stuff's really cool um it's

play31:27

coming back in for the 480 super like

play31:29

stated but we wanted to kind of get the

play31:31

efficiency stuff in this one so we're

play31:33

experimenting with a couple different

play31:34

approaches to reviewing gpus that aren't

play31:36

just frame rate which is what we've

play31:37

historically done there's obviously uh

play31:39

plenty of different approaches out there

play31:41

but our primary focus has been frame

play31:44

times frame pacing frame rate and then

play31:47

power in total uh power consumption

play31:49

workloads like power virus so we're

play31:51

overhauling that and uh the efficiency

play31:53

stuff I'm personally really excited

play31:55

about now uh as for the rest of this so

play31:58

for the cards you have all the numbers

play32:00

we'll let you make your own decision but

play32:02

if you want some stances on it as

play32:04

briefly as possible uh this launch can

play32:06

largely be summed up with a very

play32:08

Advanced

play32:10

word me it's really not particularly

play32:13

strong but it's also not offensively bad

play32:16

the price is locked so probably the

play32:19

worst or biggest downside there is is

play32:21

that we might traditionally have

play32:22

received the price cut here with the ti

play32:25

but instead the ASP or the average

play32:26

selling price remains up as a result of

play32:28

this launch but the performance also

play32:30

goes up a little bit with it and so

play32:32

we're back to me it's not the the worst

play32:37

a card could receive on this channel

play32:39

it's just kind of in the middle so it

play32:41

seems like Nvidia as we said in the

play32:43

beginning has chosen to couch this car

play32:44

in the middle of maybe two more

play32:45

interesting launches but especially the

play32:47

480 super uh looks interesting now that

play32:49

said we haven't tested it yet so we'll

play32:52

see we'll know how that pans out

play32:54

somewhere around January 31st or so as

play32:57

when it's supposed to be launching so

play32:58

reviews plus or minus day on that but

play33:00

the 4070 TI super puts pressure on AMD

play33:03

7900 xte if you care a lot about Super

play33:06

heavy rage tracing like Ultra or high

play33:08

settings in games like cyberp Punk or

play33:11

Allen wake then that's where the

play33:12

difference really starts to appear and

play33:14

you've also got things like Ray

play33:16

reconstruction to consider uh that is

play33:18

basically entirely subjective we have a

play33:20

separate video on that where we just

play33:22

show you the uh A and B comparison for

play33:24

it if you don't care about Ray tracing

play33:27

or you play games that are Ray traced

play33:29

but typically with something like a

play33:30

single RT feature Shadows Reflections

play33:34

things like that but not typically

play33:35

combined or generally lower uh RT

play33:39

intensity then the 7900 XT remains a

play33:42

good consideration especially because of

play33:44

its new found price

play33:46

drops little hesitant to commit to

play33:48

calling a particular price for it right

play33:50

now cuz it's kind of in flux but the

play33:53

last we checked for Hardware news uh

play33:56

there's evidence of it on New Egg it was

play33:58

like 710 bucks uh sometimes 750 but 710

play34:02

seem to be starting to become at least

play34:05

available in the US North American

play34:06

market so anyway that's been changing a

play34:09

lot it's largely going to come down the

play34:11

price on those and if you care about RT

play34:13

or particularly heavy RT like uh as high

play34:17

settings as you might be able to

play34:18

realistically set with a particular card

play34:20

but that'll be it for the review You've

play34:21

got a lot of numbers to work with and

play34:23

make a choice on it um we've been

play34:25

experimenting with totally over hauling

play34:27

the test one Benchmark at a time so next

play34:29

one we're hoping to bring the latency

play34:31

back in we debuted again the 70 super uh

play34:34

we've got some changes we're do into

play34:35

that to further improve it hopefully

play34:36

make it even more useful and explain it

play34:38

some more further and then we also have

play34:40

the 7600 XT review next it is about 30

play34:43

hours be well just give everyone some

play34:47

perspective uh it's less than 12 hours

play34:51

before this review has to go live so I

play34:53

need to finish editing the rest of it uh

play34:56

and then I need need to start writing

play34:57

the 7600 XT which will go up 24 hours

play35:00

after that

play35:03

so see you soon and otherwise the 480

play35:08

super should be the one where we have

play35:10

about a week to work on it so check back

play35:11

for that as well okay we'll see you all

play35:14

tomorrow about 24 hours I think I don't

play35:17

I don't know thanks for watching as
