Outlines
📚 Hannah's First Day and ARFID
The script introduces Hannah, a bright student who has skipped two grades and is now in sixth grade. Despite her intelligence, she faces challenges due to her height and an eating disorder called ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). Her classmates, especially Tyler, are initially unkind, but she finds support from her teacher and a new friend, Kristen. Hannah's teacher also announces a reward for the class's high test scores, but Hannah struggles with accepting the treat due to her disorder. The paragraph highlights the importance of acceptance and understanding, as well as the challenges Hannah faces in her new environment.
🍩 Tyler's Presentation and Hannah's Science Project
This paragraph focuses on the dynamics between Hannah and Tyler, who initially struggles with his own presentation. Hannah steps in to present her science project on surface tension, demonstrating the concept using water and wax paper. Her presentation is well-received, and she educates the class on the molecular forces affecting surface tension. However, Tyler's attitude remains negative, and Hannah's disorder continues to be a point of contention and misunderstanding among her peers.
🎈 Overcoming Fears and Social Challenges
The narrative shifts to Hannah's personal struggles with her disorder and the social challenges she faces at school. She is teased and misunderstood by her classmates, including Tyler, who mocks her for her eating habits. Despite this, Hannah finds solace in her journal, where she records her safe foods and those that make her sick. The paragraph also introduces Tyler's sister, Cindy, who has autism, and a moment of connection between Hannah and Cindy, highlighting the theme of overcoming personal fears and the importance of empathy.
🎉 Hannah's Birthday and Inspiring Others
The story progresses to Hannah's decision to challenge her fears by trying new foods and sharing her journey through videos. Her efforts inspire others, including Tyler's sister Cindy, to face their own challenges. Hannah's influence extends beyond her immediate circle, as she receives messages of gratitude from people whose lives she has touched. The paragraph culminates in a surprise birthday celebration for Hannah, organized by those she has inspired.
🌧️ Hannah's Impact and the One Bite Challenge
The final paragraph reveals that Hannah's story is a dramatized version of her real-life experiences with ARFID. Her mother introduces a 'One Bite Challenge' to raise awareness about the disorder, encouraging people to try a food they fear and share their experience on social media. Hannah nominates her friend Darman to participate in the challenge, demonstrating the power of personal stories in inspiring change and the importance of community support in overcoming challenges.

you're making great progress I'm very
proud of you and you've been trying new
foods I'm trying but it's hard it's
impossible I had a Mentor that used to
say just because something's hard
doesn't mean it's
impossible but you're a lot more capable
than you think Hannah I don't know I do
all right listen you're just scared and
that's understandable it is but what's
more important for you fear or what's on
the other side of that fear

yes um so you do have your presentation
and you're ready to present to the class
I
do it's just I uh it's not with me I
left it at home well it doesn't do you
very much good there now does it
Tyler uh Hannah would you like to
[Music]
go go ahead my project is about surface
tension of water first I have some water
that I colored blue with food coloring
so it's easier to see now I'm going to
drop it onto the wax
[Music]
paper you can see that the drops keep
their shape this is because of the
surface tension very good Hannah can you
tell the class what surface tension
is surface tension is a thin film that
forms on the surface of a liquid because
of the traction of the
molecules now I'm going to use some
rubbing alcohol to to
[Music]
compare you see the drops don't keep
their shape they sort of just spread out
that's because the molecular forces are
less in alcohol than water the cohesion
is less and the surface tension is less
Bravo
Hannah very well
done she drops a bit of water on a piece
of paper and our teacher Falls all over
herself weirdo can't even eat a donut
Tyler do you have something to add very
cool water drops
awesome I'm so glad you're
impressed you know you're going to have
the chance to give your presentation
again and this time you'll have Partners
since you're already so impressed with
Hannah maybe she can teach you a little
bit more but no no but Tyler I think
this pairing is going to be very
educational for
[Music]
you yeah I guess we'll take
[Music]
Hannah all right everybody spread out
and on the count of three 1
2 3
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Music]
this isn't science class strength and
size actually matters here these guns
are fueled by moon pies and jelly
donuts you're a
weirdo I was very specific with you
about my daughter's condition and how
delicate it is and you have her playing
dodgeball I
mean oh I'm very
sorry look who it is Mrs Candy carrots

excited about working with you he is yes
he says you are the smartest girl in his
class come on in

Cindy she's not being rude she has
autism she has a tough time with social

Tyler here just don't change the
channel oh and can I get you something
to eat no thank you are you sure
positive
[Music]
okay hi I'm
Hannah it's okay I understand you don't
have to be afraid of me I get kind of
freaked out by new people too it's hard
sometimes but as my therapist said just
because something is hard doesn't mean
it's impossible
see those guys that's
hard but that's different they're not
afraid they're not afraid of anything
well they're probably a little afraid
you know but they still
[Music]
jump what are you doing you shouldn't be
bothering my
sister she wasn't bothering me
follow
me you go Tyler's sister Cindy has
autism oh really did you talk to her a
little she's nice nicer than
Tyler what's in your mind we were
watching these skydivers my therapist
asked me what's more important my fear
or what's on the other side of the fear
huh I told Cindy and it seemed to work I
use the skydivers as an example wow
that's very interesting if people knew
about my condition and could understand
it better maybe I wouldn't feel so weird
about it and I don't know maybe I could
help other people with conditions feel
better
about mom can we get a ring light a ring
light
sure where are you going
and why are you all dressed up Hannah
inspired me Hannah the girl from my
school
Hannah for as long as I can remember
I've struggled with arid or avoidant
restricted food and take disorder which
means I have to avoid certain types of
foods because they make me feel very
anxious to the point that I become
afraid of them it's hard to eat at all
and I get sick a lot and throw up if I
eat something I don't like sometimes
I'll throw up for
hours it's hard for me to gain weight
and grow like other kids to make things
even worse I get picked on a lot because
of my
eyes and people even shame my mom about
not feeding me enough not understanding
the
situation I'm fighting every day to
overcome my fear but people don't
understand that because food is all
around constantly I'm anxious all the
time I never know when I'm going to get
triggered it's really
hard but today I decided I'm going to do
something about it I'm going to
challenged myself to try a new food
every day today I'm going to be trying
Frosted
[Music]
Flakes they smell kind of like churros I
also don't like how they're all
different shapes and sizes I also don't
like the texture the texture is a really
big part of it it's still a challenge
it's still scary and it's still hard but
I've come to realize that just because
something is hard doesn't mean it's
impossible here here I
[Music]
go hey look if you're here to make fun
of me for no not at all actually I'm
here to
say thanks for helping out with my
sister she saw your videos and got
really inspired she had no plans of
going anywhere but now she's finally
coming out of her
shell thanks to you don't mention
it I feel weird saying this especially
after the way I treated you but I'm
sorry I didn't realize how you're
overcoming your fear every single day
until I thought about my own
what could you possibly be afraid of
being
nice I deserve that but no it's not that
I don't like standing up in front of
people I have a fear of public speaking
it's kind of embarrassing but that's why
I don't like group presentations if you
haven't noticed H maybe I could help
with that
take me home take me on a ride I got a
good feeling about the colors lighten up
your eyes take me home take me to the
sky I got a good feeling tell me the

to always be kind because you never know
the challenges someone else is facing
also conquering your fears gives you an
opportunity to be brave strong and
successful to help spread arfit
awareness we're starting a one bite
challenge the rules are simple number
one pick a food that you're afraid to
try and record yourself eating it number
two post it on your social media and
nominate one or two friends to do the
challenge and finally number three don't
forget to use the # one bite challenge
so Hannah who are you going to nominate
first to do the challenge
I know hey it's Darman and I'm here with
Hannah and today I'm going to be eating
shrimp for the first time because this
has always been a food that I've been
terrified of
