Transcripts
today I have a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek and
I'm going to be making this video for
anybody who maybe just purchased one of
these and you're trying to figure out
all the ins and outs all the details how
all the controls work or if you are
looking to purchase a new Subaru
Crosstrek for the 24 model year this
will tell you everything you need to
know about how to work it if you guys
are new to my channel my name is Alex I
like to share weekly videos all on super
related content so if you like like
those types of videos consider clicking
the Subscribe button down below leave
questions below with any questions you
have and I will do my best to answer
those for you also if you guys get value
out of today's video and learn something
new please remember to click the like
button that really helps me out a ton
and I really appreciate it so this is a
2024 Subaru Crosstrek and we're looking
at the premium trim today this is kind
of a a mid-trim level it's not the the
lowest bass trim and it's not the
highest which is the limit trim but for
the purposes of just knowing the ins and
outs and some of the basic details and
controls on the cross track this video
will help you no matter which 2024
Subaru Crosstrek that you have I also
wanted to give a shout out to Diane this
is her Horizon Blue Pearl cross track so
be sure to congratulate her if you guys
see her comment down below she's really
excited told her I'd make this video for
her to help her get acclimated with her
new car and be sure to welcome her to
the Subaru family this is her first
Subaru coming from the Toyota side
starting out I'll show you guys how to
work the keys and how those interact
with the locks on the doors so we have
our lock button up here the Subaru logo
is the unlock button this is the unlock
for your hatch the alarm button and then
you have a little button on the back
that pulls out a key if you ever need to
gain access to the door when the battery
dies but the really cool thing about
this style key fob you get two of them
on a new Subaru is that there's a sensor
in the inside of the door that works
with these so when you have the keys in
your pocket you can put your finger
across these little lines here these
little grooves it locks the doors so it
locks all the doors for you or when you
go to pull on the handle it
automatically unlocks all while having
the keys in your pocket or your purse or
wherever as long as it's nearby so that
makes it super convenient and then of
course you can hop in and with it being
keyless entry it also has the push
button start so you put your foot on the
brake and you click that push button
start and it fires right up if you have
one of the Subarus that has the keyless
entry key fob which about 90 percent of
them do so the ones that don't are going
to be the base trim level those actually
we have a key that you stick into the
ignition but if you have this style key
fob you have an added feature that you
may not know exist they call it the
mysuber app where you can remotely start
your car you can remotely access your
car lock and unlock and check for
maintenance details all through an app
now it does cost money I've talked about
this app in previous videos again I'll
click it I'll put a YouTube card up
above to the right for you guys to check
that out more detail but I'll also post
a little clip over here to show you what
the app looks like and how that works
but that is something that you have the
option to get if you have a 2020 or
newer Subaru with the keyless entry key
fob with push button start and in
combination with the remote star or the
remote access you also have Subaru
starlink so you've probably seen this
many years in the past a little red
button up here with the SOS on it and an
eye button a little blue button so what
are these this is your emergency
notification system so if you're
involved in an accident there's sensors
all around the car so if you get
involved in an accident it's going to
call out to Subaru and and if you don't
respond they will send First Responders
out to you directly and then I this is
just for non-emergency related so if you
get a flat tire run out of gas you can
click this SOS button and it will come
to you or if you just need something
that is not a non-emergency you can
click the I button
and you also have the ability to set up
concierge service to book reservations
and airline tickets and things like that
with this button so not a lot of people
do that but definitely a lot of people
do this if you have a new if you just
purchase a new Subaru Subaru gives you
three years of this emergency
notification system for free so you
don't have to pay for it starting out
but it is they give you the option when
you buy your car new to get to upgrade
that at a discounted rate so definitely
ask your salesperson about it because
there's some benefits there if you
intend to keep that past three years one
common question I get asked from time to
time is how to open your gas store when
you have low gas or E don't worry we are
going to fill up her tank today it just
hasn't been picked up yet so we're about
to fill it up and clean it up for before
she takes it home but I'll show you guys
how to open your gas store because
there's no longer a lever over here so
there used to be in years ago there used
to be a lever here that you'd lift up
and that would unlock your gas door but
we're going to turn the car off
go around to
the back now the car is unlocked right
now so when the car is unlocked if I
click on this door the gas door opens up
but if I lock the door so if I lock it
right here
there's a little pin right there that
will stick into to this hole and it'll
lock it so we'll go ahead and do that
I'll show you what it looks like so now
it's locked
and it won't open so that just keeps
people from getting inside your gas tank
that that you don't want in there
another basic thing that you will
ultimately one day probably need to know
where it's located is your hood release
so your hood release is right here and
it's just as simple as pulling that
lever
going around to the front
putting your fingers right here
pushing it over to the side if I could
get it trying to do this with one hand
and it lifts up just like that so that's
how you gain access under the hood
inside the car here on the steering
wheel you will see lots of icons and
little switches it may look overwhelming
but I promise you once I show you what
they are it'll be much easier to
understand and to use these while you're
driving so over on the left hand side we
have your channel controls so left and
right that changes the channel of the
radio station that you're listening to
or if you've got your phone connected it
will change the song that you're
listening to so that switches the
channels Source switches between AM FM
and SiriusXM or Bluetooth so we'll go
ahead and when we're clicking this it
switches up there on the the top display
you see how it's switching back over to
FM AM and Sirius XM the switch with the
up and the down arrow that changes the
information that is up on the center
display in between your gauge cluster so
things like your fuel economy your trip
calculators your your PSI so your tire
pressures any relevant information like
that and you can cycle through and keep
whichever bit of information you want on
the display and it'll stay there on that
screen until you change it the eye
people always ask about this because you
click it and it typically doesn't do
anything well in this case this is a
perfect example car doesn't have any gas
in it so you see a little eye icon right
there when you click that button it
tells you what's going on in this case
low fuel down here when your phone is
connected you can use voice command to
make phone calls so you can use that to
call out of your phone book without even
having to pick up your phone or click
the touch screen and then when you do
get calls you can answer with this
button or hang up with that button down
below
you can also mute the volume with that
button and then this is your volume
control so very simple up or down with
your volume control over on the right
hand side we have our cruise control
buttons I've talked about this in length
and other videos but just in case you
haven't seen this I'll give you a brief
overview so you have adaptive cruise
control because you have these eyesight
cameras all of your modern Subarus
typically 2020 and newer have this but
some of the older generation models as
far back as the 2013 model year will
have this it just depends on the trim
level so with those cameras it detects
objects out ahead so if you click your
cruise control so if you turn this on
you'll see the little car with the lines
out ahead when that is on and you reach
the speed you want to go you click down
to set your speed and if a car comes in
front of you and they start slowing down
your car will adjust speed and kind of
just Pace behind the car out ahead
keeping you at a safe distance and you
can change the distance between your car
in the car out ahead with the up and
down arrow here so right now it's at
four lines which is the furthest
distance the furthest gap between you
and the car out ahead but if you want to
decrease that Gap you click the down
arrow here or if you want to increase it
back up you can increase it up to two
three or even back up to four
you also have this Lane centering so
this is a little uh steering wheel icon
right there that tells you it's ready it
also works with those cameras looks for
Lane markings on the left and the right
side of the road when that is on it will
use your power steering keeping you
centered in your lane you'll you'll feel
that kind of tug that tightness in the
steering wheel you have full control
over the car at all times so it's not
driving for you still requires you to
have your hands on the wheel if you take
your hands off the wheel the car will
definitely detect that and remind you to
put them back on so it's just an added
safety feature when you are mainly
driving on straightaways you're
traveling on the highway but you can
simply turn that on and off with this if
your cruise control is on and you want
to turn it off you can tap that or you
tap the button it deactivates just like
it would in any other car the S and the
I button this stands for sport mode and
intelligent mode so sport mode is going
to have a little bit quicker
acceleration just changing your your
driving characteristics subtly the eye
is going to be more economical better on
gas and more gradual acceleration like
that image depicts you do have a trip
calculator there's a trip reset button
up here on the top right you'll see it
switch between trip a and trip B right
here and if you want to clear that out
back to zero so this recalculates
everything including your average fuel
economy up there clears it back down to
Zero by clicking and holding it like I
just did there
on the right hand side you have your
wiper controls if you pull on this
it dispenses the fluid
if you want to do the rear wiper you
twist that up just like this
and your rear wiper will go and if you
want to dispense the fluid you twist and
hold it and that dispenses the fluid in
the rear
on the left hand side you have your
lights so you have your light controls
over here where you can have them stay
all the way on or have them
automatically turn on for brights you
can press this left stock forward that
will turn your brights on and then for
your fog lights you can switch that on
just by switching it from off to on of
course that controls your blinkers as
well
and for your caution lights or your
hazard lights you press that button
there and that turns those on I always
get asked about this and I have a whole
video dedicated talking about it but the
minus and the plus levers over here so
what do those do you want to see more
in-depth details on this click on the
YouTube card to the right that will show
you all you need to know about this you
may truthfully you may never use these
but it replaces the the high and the low
gear that used to be down here or the
one two and three it allows you to
change your acceleration characteristics
by putting the car in manual mode so you
can shift up or shift down with these if
you're going up a steep hill or in snow
and you're stuck in a rut you can change
your driving characteristics a little
bit but if you aren't ever in those
situations you may never need to use
those this touch screen display is new
for the 2024 model year this was carried
over from the Subaru Outback which has
been in the the Outback since the 2020
model year you have your radio controls
and your climate controls all in one you
do have a couple physical buttons for
volume and climate controls and changing
the channel things like that I'll show
you the basics here so just like a
smartphone you have a home button here
that always takes you back to your main
screen and then you have your apps laid
out nice and neat for you if you want to
get to the radio real quick you tap on
radio and you can listen to AM FM or
SiriusXM Radio I believe Subaru gives
you a free trial of three or four months
on that if you don't already have it and
then of course you can connect your
phone to listen to music directly from
your phone just by clicking this little
add button down to the bottom right or
by plugging your phone into one of the
USB inputs down here you have USBC which
is the fast charge port and USB a which
is your your older traditional style USB
input you can plug your phone up and
connect it either way I won't go into
all the details in this video but if you
want to see more details on that and the
capabilities of this click on the
YouTube card up above to the right it
shows you how to connect your phone and
also how to use use Apple carplay and
Android auto to display things on your
screen like navigation listen to music
and make and receive phone calls all
without having to click buttons over
here you can keep your hands safely on
the Wheel to connect your phone it's
pretty easy you can do it one of two
ways you can take your charge cable plug
it into your phone and then plug it in
down in one of the USB inputs down here
or you can connect it by clicking on the
little phone icon or device icon down
below add device
go to your Bluetooth settings in your
smartphone and it'll pop up and say
Crosstrek you click on that and connect
it wirelessly that'll allow you to use
Apple carplay and Android auto for your
climate controls you have an on off
switch right here
just as simple as that you have fan
speed controls down here
you can increase or decrease the fan
speed for the Crosstrek so some of the
other Subarus have heated seat controls
digitally up in the display here for the
Crosstrek you have your heated seat
controls down here so you have high
low or off for driver and passenger if
you want to change the temperature you
can change it by simply clicking this
right here on the left or the right side
this vehicle has dual climate so you can
change the temperature controls
independently from the driver and the
passenger
if you tap in here
you can sync up the climate control so
if you want them to both be the same you
just click sync you can change the
location at which the vents are blowing
out so face or if you wanted to
prioritize face and feet both or just
feet you can click that accordingly
and then you have your controls up here
which these are all controls you should
have seen even in older cars that have
the the physical dials like your auto
which is going to automatically adjust
your fan speed according to the the
temperature that you set this will
recirculate your Cloud your cabin air
temperature or your cabin airflow AC is
just going to dehumidify the air
conditioning or the air that's being
blown through and then lastly over here
we have Max AC which if you tap that it
turns the temperature all the way down
and turns the fan speed all the way up
we're going to turn that off so it's not
loud right now if you want defrost up
front you click that button that will
heat up your front window if you want
the rear window and heated side mirrors
defrosted you click this button over
here on the right another bit of
important information to know about your
new Subaru is when should you get your
maintenance done so how often should you
get oil changes and things like that
Subaru recommends every six months or 6
000 miles you can easily go in and track
when your next oil change is due by
clicking car info you can even reset
this if you want to reset it to a
different time so under engine oil I've
already set it for so about six months
from now or over the next six thousand
miles it will remind her when her oil
change or her next service is due all
new Subarus have a system called auto
start stop which will automatically shut
the car down at complete stops to save
on fuel now some people don't like that
feature and you can quickly turn it on
and off by this little icon right here
so when it's lit up green it's on
meaning that when you come to a complete
stop your engine will shut down and it
will automatically restart before you
even give it gas to go take off but if
you don't want that on you tap it to
turn it off it does default on so
whenever you manually restart the car by
clicking this button and restarting it
that will be lit up green again right
next to the auto start stop button there
is a car icon so this this is where you
can pull up your vehicle controls now a
lot of people may never interfere with
these or change these but it's nice to
know what they do and where they're
located so it's always located on the
home screen you just click that car icon
and it brings you up to your car
controls so vehicle Dynamics control
that is your traction control the X mode
that works with your all-wheel drive
system to prioritize traction the cars
all-wheel drive at all times but if
you're in snow or in a on a hill and
you're sliding you can click that to
turn it on just like that
cruise control acceleration you can
change the characteristics at how
quickly your cruise control speeds up
when your car has been slowed down from
the adaptive cruise control so an
example you're going 60 miles an hour
down the highway car comes in front of
you they slow down to 50. well your car
is now going 50 when they get out of the
way your car is going to speed up how
quickly do you want it to accelerate if
you wanted to accelerate really slow you
put it on eco if you want to accelerate
as quickly as possible put it on dynamic
or if you want somewhere in between
click Comfort or standard
the next option here is auto vehicle
hold this is one of my favorite features
if you've watched my videos for some
time now you'll probably already know
this but what Auto vehicle hold does is
it will hold your vehicle's parking
brake in place for you when you're at
complete stops and some great examples
to use this in are in stop and go
traffic you're waiting on a train to
pass or you're going through a
drive-through Lane because this allows
you to let your foot off the brake
without putting the car into park and
whenever it's time to go whenever it's
time to proceed
you just give it gas and go it releases
the brake automatically so this is
something that I really like you do have
to turn that feature on each time you
get in the car and so if you like that
there is a quick uh quick way to turn it
on and off it's over here you just
simply click and hold it
drag it over to the home screen so the
first screen takes a second here drop it
right there and there you go so that way
each day you start your trip you just
tap that and you can utilize that
feature if you want to do so simple as
that we'll go back in the car settings
here
the next one on the list is steering
responsive headlights these Subarus now
come standard with the steering
responsive headlights so at night when
you're on streets that are not well lit
and you turn left or right you're
steering your headlights will turn with
the steering of the vehicle and then
lastly we've already talked about auto
start stop this is a second area on the
menu to do it but you see it turns it on
and off right there so we can ignore
that next on the list is driving
assistance so again these are some areas
where you may never adjust these but
it's important to know where they are in
case you do for the automatic braking
which works with those eyesight cameras
you can turn the pre-collision braking
on and off right here
for the Ford Collision warning if you
want that to be more sensitive or less
sensitive you can adjust it there
lean departure alert this is one where a
lot of people will call me after they've
had their car a few weeks and maybe it
is beeping when they get too close to
the left or the right side of the road
they want to adjust that where it's no
longer buzzing at them so it's no longer
beeping or making an audible tone you
can actually turn it off right here just
by simply turning it off and then lastly
we have rear vehicle detection which
they have it the acronym here BSD blind
spot detection and rear cross traffic
alert is on right now I'm going to turn
it off and then turn it right back on so
you can see the lights turn on orange
when you have somebody in your blind
spot on the left or the right so
whenever you can't see clearly out of
your back window or through the side of
your car you have this as an added
safety measure and then rear cross
traffic alert when you put the car in
Reverse if somebody is walking behind
you or a car pulls up behind you at the
grocery store this will detect you it'll
Auto audibly detect you now this vehicle
doesn't have the reverse automatic
braking some Subarus do the Crosstrek
limited does but the premium does not so
if your car is equipped with that it has
an added level of safety features there
and that is how your blind spot and rear
cross traffic alert Works had to do a
quick change over to another cross track
because our detail shop just came to
pick up Diane's Crosstrek to get it all
cleaned up so I'll finish telling you
guys about the Crosstrek and the basic
details that you need to know on your
car for on this one one thing that I
like to show people this is a little bit
of an Easter egg I don't always go over
this during vehicle deliveries but since
we've got a YouTube video to kind of
discuss in further detail and elaborate
there is something called a secret pin
code I made a video on this in the past
and if you guys want to know all the
details you can click on the YouTube
card the top right this allows you to
gain access to your car with this little
pin code with this little uh or I should
call it a button but you can set a pin
code to gain access to your car to
unlock it without having your key fob
nearby so if you ever get locked out of
the car or you lose a key and you need
to get inside of it or maybe you're
going surfing or kayaking and you want
to lock the car inside or lock the key
inside the car you can utilize that pin
code on here on the the lower portion of
the the lift gate to gain access to the
car now you can't drive the car without
the key you still have to have a working
key once you do get inside but it's just
a a nice little feature that not a lot
of people know about that is on the not
only the 2024 Crosstrek but it's on a
lot of the Subarus from many years back
I think I want to say as far back as
almost I'd say a decade so they've been
on there for quite a while if you guys
have questions on that like I said
definitely check out that that video
that I posted on the YouTube card or
leave those comments down below I'll try
my best to help you guys out in the past
if you had a car that had an emergency
brake a lever that you lifted up you
will notice that there is nothing like
that that exists on the 24 Crosstrek so
they just change this over so now for
the Crosstrek to engage your parking
brake you just lift up like that just a
single click it lights up red it tells
you it's in park now to disengage that
you simply put your foot on the brake
and you press down so you go the
opposite direction
as a safety mechanism if this is engaged
and your seat belt is clicked into place
when you go to take off as soon as you
give it gas whether you're in drive or
reverse that emergency brake will
deactivate automatically for you one
thing you're going to want to adjust on
your new Subaru is going to be your
seats and the position of your steering
wheel so with your steering wheel you
can adjust this just by dropping this
lever here it's telescopic so you can
move it forward back up down however you
like it and then lift it up to lock it
in place when you get it in a
comfortable spot and then on the side of
the seats you have your controls you can
move the seat forward back you can tilt
it up down you can
increase or decrease the incline on your
seat back there and then lastly this is
new for the 24 Crosstrek so another
previous Crosstrek model years had this
you have lumbar support so that
increases or decreases that tightness in
the back of the seat for your
comfortability over on the left hand
side of the door these are some pretty
basic controls you have your mirror
controls so some people get confused by
this but you can turn this left or right
and then you can adjust it up and down
this adjusts your mirrors so when you
turn it to the left or counterclockwise
it's going to control the left mirror
see how that adjusts it up and down and
then same you could do on the right side
you can adjust that mirror however you
see fit for your visibility you have the
Locking and unlocking for the door
automatic windows the front windows are
one click one touch down or one click up
and this locks your rear passenger
windows
for the crosstreks equipped with the
power moon roof you can operate just the
sun shade like this if you want natural
light or if you want to open it you can
click this right here
that'll open up about three quarters of
the way you click and hold it again it
goes back just a tad bit more
if you want to close it and tilt it so
you close it here
and then you can tilt if you want some
additional airflow from the rear
back in the rear hatch
you do have the
spare tire
down below what tools necessary if you
ever get a flat tire but if you do have
a new car you also have Subaru starlink
roadside assistance so be sure to click
that SOS button near the dome light that
I mentioned to you guys if you do get a
flat tire and have them handle it for
you I hope you found this video helpful
if you did please remember to click the
like button if you guys have any
questions leave those down in the
comment section below and who knows
maybe the next video I make will be on
the question that you ask here on the
channel hope you have a great day and I
will see you in the next one
thank you
